I have reached out to Fitbit and they're sending a new tracker, but I suspect it won't fix anything as it's likely a software issue (free Fitbit ftw!).
I actually posted about this quite awhile ago... the fixes I posted helped me but not permanently.
It turned out that my USB hub was the culprit. After plugging the FitBit base station into my iMac directly, it has worked without problems. *keeping my fingers crossed*
1. Download the software via the link below and attempt to sync your tracker
2. If you are still unable to sync your tracker, please generate a set of logs.
1. Download this link:
*Please copy the entire link and paste it into to your browser from (http) to (.dmg)
2. Generate the logs:
Here is a step by step walk-through for generating logs on your Mac computer
i. Download the .zip file - cache.fitbit.com/uploader/Fitbit-Mac-Support-Utili...
ii. A screen will pull up that looks like a tool nut/washer and is called "Fitbit Support Utility"
iii. Click on Fitbit Support Utility and a screen should pop up.
iv. You may be asked to enter your Admin password for your Apple Operating System, so go ahead with this process.
v. Then on the Fitbit Support Utility page you should see three headings a) Service Status b) Basestation Status c) Console Logging
vi. Underneath Console Logging, click on 'CREATE DIAGNOSTIC FILE'
vii. After clicking that button, it may take anywhere between 2-5 minutes to download your Diagnostic Logs.
viii. On my screen, after a few minutes this popped up in the 'Downloads folder' and my Log File (.tgz or .tbz2) was highlighted --*(This could also be accessed via your Finder window, and then clicking on the Downloads folder)
ix. Please open up your email account (yahoo, gmail, etc) and respond to the most recent email, with the (.tgz or .tbz2) file of your logs attached.
I contacted FitBit support and they said that they have no known issues with FitBit and Lion ... and that I should now be able to sync my FitBit with my MBA and that all should work fine. It doesn't work fine. The only way I can get my FitBit to synchronize is to plug it back into my work machine and letting it be. I am also having issues charging my FitBit on my MBA, it will show a full battery but then die after 5 hours forcing me to yet again return to work and charge it there (which is a pain when the FitBit dies over the weekend).
I don't know if it is an issue with the FitBit software, Lion or my MBA.
I'm curious if you will run into this issue occasionally like I did.
At one point I thought it might be because my USB ports on my MBA weren't throwing out enough power to the base station .. but they are sending out the same amount as my work MPB so who knows what the issue is. I think it's something to do with Lion which makes me wonder if when I upgrade to Mountain Lion if my issues will be solved... or if things are just going to get worse.
You know for a little gizmo that has had rather great reviews online and from friends who swear by their fitbit, I have been pretty disappointed with my experiences thus far.
Beyond the sync issues, what other disappointments have you had? I'm on my second fitbit and I love it. I mean... I don't really think about it anymore. I just use it and then check my data a few times a week.
I'm glad they got back to you... I hope this means you get to start enjoying the Aria. I love mine!
