Want a laptop that's even thinner than a MacBook Air? What about one that's available in gold? If your answer to either of the above is yes, then Apple has a new notebook that could be right up your alley. Simply called the "MacBook," it's a 12-inch laptop that's just 13.1mm thick (24 percent thinner than the 11-inch MacBook Air). It has a new trackpad with "Force Click" gestures, a redesigned keyboard and a 2304 x 1440 resolution Retina display. If you live in the UK, by now you're probably wondering how much all of this is going to cost you. Well, here's the skinny: When Apple launches its new MacBook on April 10, the cheapest model will ship with a 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor (with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.4 GHz), 8GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage for £1,049.

Well, this is a timely rumor: Today is the day Apple opens up OS X Yosemite for public beta-testing, and now we're hearing the final version of the OS will come out in late October. The report comes from Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac, who has a strong track record when it comes to Apple rumors, and he claims that in addition to OS X, Apple will release a 12-inch Retina display MacBook, and either an iMac or a standalone monitor with a 4K screen. Obviously, Apple could do a 180 and release the same old computers with minor spec bumps, but if you ask us, everything Gurman is reporting seems plausible. First of all, Apple already promised it would release a final version of OS X sometime in the fall, and surely it plans to do that before the holiday shopping season starts up in November.

  • Rumor: Apple prepping ultra-thin MacBook Pro

MacScoop, aka MacOSXRumors, claims to have reliable sources confirming that Apple is in the final development stages for an ultra-thin 12-inch MacBook Pro sub-notebook. Details are sketchy, as they tend to be with these kinds of rumors, but here's what you can get your hopes up about:The new portable would be, as the term "ultra-thin" implies, lighter and thinner than the current MacBook Pros, but will still have all the frills you've come to expect from a rumor. like a dual-core CPU, widescreen aspect ratio and a built-in SuperDrive. The price tag is undefined, but allegedly well-informed people say the Apple sub-notebook would be priced around $1700-$1800 and you can expect to see it in stores sometime between now and, oh let's say... the year 2099.While I might be the first in line to buy such an animal, should it ever come to fruition, there is simply nothing in this "report" that makes it a viable rumor, in my opinion, other than the fact that it's a given that Apple is constantly striving to do new things and is always developing new products, some of which actually make it to market. It's perfectly logical to think that Apple might want to trim some fat from their notebook lineup. The technology circle of life is almost always "make it faster, smaller, lighter, cheaper - and sooner, rather than later." Why confuse matters by turning that inevitability into a top-secret rumor? This just smacks of publicity-seeking wishful thinking to me. And there aren't even any fancy Photoshop mockups to go with it! Shame on me for even mentioning it...
