For awhile there, it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/10/worlds-largest-103-inch-panasonic-plasma-goes-on-sale-in-japan/">seemed</a> like companies were coming out of the woodwork to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/panasonics-gigantic-150-inch-plasma-is-official/">showcase</a> the newest "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/08/jvcs-worlds-largest-tv-110-inches-and-728-pounds-of-hd/">world's largest HDTV</a>" at CES. Now that we've hit the 150-inch point, though, analysts aren't expecting anything to one-up that at next year's show. In an interview with Panasonic Professional Display's Andrew Nelkin, he confessed that he saw <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/01/20-questions-about-panasonics-150-inch-plasma/">150-inches</a> as a "natural stopping point." For starters, it's big enough for most commercial applications, and moreover, anything larger becomes nearly impossible to install in a single piece. He even felt that the 150-inch ceiling may remain intact for years to come, but maybe he's just masking the development work on a bigger set that's already on a boat headed for Vegas.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/panasonic/" rel="tag">Panasonic</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sharp/" rel="tag">Sharp</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/plasma/" rel="tag">Plasma</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/08/no-new-hdtv-size-record-to-be-shattered-at-ces-2009/">No new HDTV size record to be shattered at CES 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 08 Dec 2008 18:58:00 EST. Although it's impossible to tell without another object in the display box, that's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/150-inch">Panasonic's 150-inch TV</a> up there -- here at IFA, intimidating its neighbors. Now get this: this massive plasma sporting a 2,160 X 4,096-pixel (4 times 1080p) Advanced HD display will hit the assembly lines just as soon as Panny's newest factory comes on-line in the May 2009 timeframe. At the moment, the single 150-inch sheet of glass is hand-made and fitted into four of these behemoths currently touring the world. That means 150-inches of goodness could be yours before the year is up. College shmollege, this is quad HD!<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/29/panasonics-150-inch-life-wall-tv-going-production-in-2009/">Panasonic's 150-inch Life Wall TV going production in 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 29 Aug 2008 12:07:00 EST. Panasonic's welcoming you to the future of plasma HDTV, starting along with the stunning <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/">150-inch 4K plasma</a>, that is, surprisingly enough bigger than its old 103-inch model (shocking, we know) leading to the debut of three "super thin" plasma prototypes measuring 24.7mm deep in 50-inch and, for what it claims is the first time, 58- and 65-inch sizes that also include <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/tag/wirelesshd">Wireless HD</a>. One-fourth the thickness of current Panasonic models and one-half the weight combined with no wires leads Panasonic to believe we'll be able to reorganize the living room shortly, without silly mounting issues and need to run cables. If that fails to inspire, how about a 42-inch prototype that claims twice the luminance efficiency and the same brightness as its current 42-inch 1080p model while only sipping half the power -- if that's a <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/07/29/how-much-does-it-cost-to-just-leave-your-hdtv-plugged-in/">concern</a>. Check out more pics after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/28/panasonic-ifa-2008-prototypes-super-thin-super-green-super-bi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic IFA 2008 plasma prototypes: super thin, super green, super big</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/28/panasonic-ifa-2008-prototypes-super-thin-super-green-super-bi/">Panasonic IFA 2008 plasma prototypes: super thin, super green, super big</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 28 Aug 2008 05:49:00 EST. The odd disappointment of seeing a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/panasonics-gigantic-150-inch-plasma-is-official/">150-inch plasma display</a> is that it hardly looks like a TV "set" in the traditional sense. It just looks like a wall of video. But after your eyes adjust to the sensory overload, it's truly a beautiful thing. The 4k resolution of the set was clearly stretching the source material, but everything still looked pretty sharp, blacks were black and motion was smooth. We chatted with a Panny rep who said this won't be out until 2009, but we slipped him a fiver and he promised to meet us out back with one of these after the show.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/">Hands-off with Panasonic's 150-inch behemoth</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/#564366"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/panny-hands-p1072794_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/#564368"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/panny-hands-p1072795_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/#564370"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/panny-hands-p1072796_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/#564367"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/panny-hands-p1072797_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/#564371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/panny-hands-p1072798_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/hands-off-with-panasonics-150-inch-behemoth/">Hands-off with Panasonic's 150-inch behemoth</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 14:45:00 EST. Regardless, we have no doubt this thing will look sensational upconverting your 1080p HD movies.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/panasonic/" rel="tag">Panasonic</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/plasma/" rel="tag">Plasma</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/panasonics-gigantic-150-inch-plasma-is-official/">Panasonic's gigantic 150-inch plasma is official!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 12:56:00 EST.
