Sure, Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5530XpressMusic/">5530 XpressMusic</a> has been on sale across the States for months now, but here's the thing: if you bust it out of the box and try to use it literally the second you get the package in the mail, you'll find yourself facing a depression-inducing lack of entertainment. It's a nightmarish reality facing thousands of buyers, but Nokia's closing the gap with the release of the 5530 Games Edition, which -- yes, that's right -- includes a bunch of games preloaded. In total, you've got 20 titles from both Gameloft and EA for $10 more than the standard model at $299 -- the only problem is that Nokia's running a special on the base 5530 for $219 right now, so for the moment, anyway, you're much, much better off going the boring route and loading the games yourself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/16/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-games-edition-goes-on-sale-in-us-puts-th/">Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Games Edition goes on sale in US, puts the hurt on boredom</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 16 Jan 2010 06:23:00 EST. We'd figured the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5530/">5530</a> was destined for markets around the globe where 2G still dominates, so imagine our pleasant surprise to see that good ol' Nokia USA is as amped as anyone to start selling the company's new low-cost <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/S605thEdition/">S60 5th Edition</a> device. This leaves potential buyers in a doozy of a dilemma, though: most retailers are now selling the 5530's big brother, the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5800/">5800</a>, for under $300, which makes the $290 sticker for a 3G-less version pretty hard to swallow. On the flipside, the 5530's unquestionably the more attractive phone and the updated home screen is going to leave 5800 owners insanely envious. It's a tough call, and it's not a call we'd want to have to make -- one of each, perhaps? There's no shipping date listed on the preorder, but for your patience Nokia's awarding you with an MD-8 stereo Bluetooth speaker if you order online -- just pony up your $289.99, pick the white or black version of the phone, twiddle your thumbs, and don't be shocked when the New York and Chicago flagships get stock before you do.<br />

As far as we're concerned, Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5530XpressMusic/">5530 XpressMusic</a> far and away out-classes its more expensive older brother the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5800/">5800</a>, even if it is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-gets-fcc-approval-still-no-3g-to-be-foun/">lacking in the 3G department</a>. British phone retailer <i>mobiles.co.uk</i> thought it best to tease us with an unboxing video of their own, along with some quick impressions of the touchscreen device. It's certainly a looker, and a sleek device they're pretty confident will do well. Some of the S60 5th edition additions are very welcomed, such as the new scrolling contacts bar, but for better and for worse (mostly worse), it's still S60. See it for yourself after the break, and if you wish really hard, there's a good chance this still won't get 3G, but at least you can say you tried.<br />

If you're looking for the cheapest possible way to get in on this S60 5th Edition craze that's sweeping the globe, you've probably got a keen eye on Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5530/">5530</a> -- a phone that strangely looks much nicer than its pricier, more full-featured <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5800/">5800</a> big brother -- and if you're in the UK, you won't be waiting much longer. Mobile Today is reporting that Carphone Warhouse has nabbed itself a nice little six-week British exclusive on the phone starting August 11, running a totally palatable &pound;130 (about $218) on a pay-as-you-go deal. We'd have a hard time adapting to EDGE, but who knows -- if you've got enough open WiFi networks in your daily route, maybe it's doable.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/08/06/nokia-5530-xm-to-hit-the-uk-on-august-11-only-130-on-payg/">Unwired View</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/07/carphone-warehouse-gets-uk-exclusive-on-nokia-5530-xpressmusic-n/">Carphone Warehouse gets UK exclusive on Nokia 5530 XpressMusic next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 08:25:00 EST. Despite the fact that it looks considerably better than the supposedly higher-end <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/5800/">5800</a>, the 5530 tops out with EDGE for the WWAN, relying instead on WiFi for the heavy data lifting in exchange for a dirt-cheap unlocked retail sticker price. That said, we'd still take one if they were available. At least Nokia stuck this FCC lab with the less attractive black / red color combo, so our usual bout of raging jealousy is just a tad tempered this time around.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-gets-fcc-approval-still-no-3g-to-be-foun/">Nokia 5530 XpressMusic gets FCC approval, still no 3G to be found</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 17:41:00 EST. Seeing how these announcements are going down live in Singapore as we speak, we've got a few sources of live pictures of Nokia's latest announcements coming in off the interwebs already; it's all raw, unfiltered footage, but that's exactly the way we like it around here. We won't know for certain until we touch it, but at a glance, the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E72/">E72</a> certainly looks like a worthy successor to one of the greatest phones Nokia has ever made, and the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5530/">5530</a> looks like the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5800/">5800</a> <em>should've </em>looked. You'd think that Nokia would want to do a better job of building up such important product announcements with a long, drawn-out series of frustratingly unhelpful teasers, viral videos, and global PR campaigns, but instead, it turns out that the rumored <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E72/">E72</a> and <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/05/27/rumored-nokia-5900-xpressmusic-is-actually-a-lower-end-5530/">5530 XpressMusic</a> have been officially unveiled at the company's Connection 09 event in Singapore. The E72 is arguably the bigger announcement of the two, succeeding the E71 by adding a whopping 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack (thank goodness), integrated compass, 10.2Mbps HSDPA, and an optical navigation pad; it'll hit in the third quarter for &euro;350 (about $489). Follow the break for video of the E72 in slick, polished, high-orchestrated marketing action. Next up, as we'd heard, the 5530 ends up being a small step down from the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/5800/">5800</a> in the S60 5th Edition totem pole, offering just EDGE data without any form of 3G (though you've still got WiFi). It's got a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm jack, and a 640 x 360 touchscreen display. Like the E72 it'll be available in the third quarter; it'll retail for &euro;199 (about $278) unlocked.<br /><br />[Thanks, nabs]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-announced/">Nokia 5530 XpressMusic announced</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-announced/#2082793"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-announced/#2082792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-announced/#2082791"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-announced/#2082790"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-announced/#2082788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/nokia-5530-xpressmusic-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e72-announced/">Nokia E72 announced</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e72-announced/#2082787"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/e72-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e72-announced/#2082786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/e72-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e72-announced/#2082785"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/e72-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e72-announced/#2082784"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/e72-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e72-announced/#2082783"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/06/e72-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><a href="http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/06/15/nokia-e72-unveiled-pics-and-video/">Read</a> - Nokia E72<br /><a href="http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/06/15/pass-the-parcel-presents-the-nokia-5530-xpressmusic/">Read</a> - Nokia 5530 XpressMusic<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/14/nokia-e72-5530-xpressmusic-get-official/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nokia E72, 5530 XpressMusic get official</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/14/nokia-e72-5530-xpressmusic-get-official/">Nokia E72, 5530 XpressMusic get official</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 14 Jun 2009 23:18:00 EST.
