If you've been desperately seeking a phone that could best be described as the Nokia E52's misbehaving younger brother who can't hold a job and spends most of his time in his mom's basement blaring death metal, look no further than the 5630 XpressMusic. The phone's essentially an E52 clone that's had some of its uptight bits swapped out for funkier ones (just look at that wild keyboard, for instance), emphasizing the music capabilities but toning down some of the productivity goodies like advanced profile support and integrated Nokia Messaging. Interested parties in many European locales can now latch onto a unit of their own -- take Nokia Finland's online store here, for example, where it's selling for a totally reasonable €255 (about $360). No sign of an American release at this point.

[Via All About Symbian]
Filed under: Handsets, Nokia, Symbian, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, HSUPA

Nokia 5630 XpressMusic bows across Europe originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 19:41:00 EST. Been hankering for a low-end Nokia XpressMusic device in a familiar and unthreatening form factor? Then you might want to check in with the 5630, a candybar the company just shuttled off to the FCC for review (and dissection, if these pictures are any indication). In case you forgot, the device will sport a 3.2 megapixel camera with built-in flash, GPS, S60 3rd Edition (a personal fave of Engadget Mobile), and the "active toolbar" which we've seen more recently on the Tube... er, 5800 XpressMusic. The phone also supports N-gage games, and though we've been led to understand the device rocks an HSDPA / HSUPA radio, the manual up on the FCC's site only mentions GPRS and EDGE connectivity. For now we'll just assume that some kind of crazy joke (or typical US neutering of Nokia handsets). Check a pic of the gutted device after the break, and hit the read link for the full Commission rundown.

[Via Electronic Pulp]
Continue reading Nokia's 5630 XpressMusic hits the FCC

Filed under: Handsets, Nokia, Symbian, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA

Nokia's 5630 XpressMusic hits the FCC originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 15 Feb 2009 09:06:00 EST. As you can glimpse above, this one includes a dual-LED flash to complement the 3.2 megapixel camera, and the rest of the specs are certainly none too shabby for an S60 candybar, including HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity, an included 4GB microSD card, stereo Bluetooth and, last but not least, a 3.5mm headphone jack. Like Symbian candybars? Then try this surprising little number, the 5630 XpressMusic. Nokia's 5800-sib is an N-Gage ready, 12-mm slimster with a 4GB microSD card dropped in the box along side a standard 3.5-mm headphone jack to rock whatever buds, plugs, or cans you have an itch for. It's also packing a 3.2 megapixel, "4x zoom" camera with dual-LED flash and HSDPA/HSUPA data to move your pics and videos up to your favorite photo sharing site on a rocket. Dedicated audio keys and Nokia's "say and play" feature makes the 5630 a media all-rounder. Expected in Q2 for around €200 pre-tax, pre-subsidy.
Filed under: Handsets, Nokia, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, HSUPA

Nokia's 5630 XpressMusic is 12-mm slim, HSUPA fast, and S60 powerful originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 10 Feb 2009 04:27:00 EST. They've got 13 new ones, including six TravelMates and seven Aspires, and they've even managed to get Blu-ray or HD DVD drives into a few of them. The headliner of the bunch is the new TravelMate 8210, which runs the full range of Core 2 Duo chips, boasts of the Windows x64 OS, and tops it all off with a Blu-ray drive. You can upgrade the RAM to a max 4GB to really get the use out of the 64-bit Windows, and there are plenty of other perks like 802.11a/b/g WiFi, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB of VRAM, a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera, and even an option for a Bluetooth VoIP phone. As for the rest of the TravelMates, it's just model number soup, with the 14-inch 3270 and 3290; 15.4-inch 8210, 4230 and 4280; and the 17-inch 5620 all rocking the Merom. The Aspires include three HD DVD capable laptops in their midst, the 9120, 9520 and 9810. The bottom of the barrel is the 14.1-inch 5590, followed by the 15.4-inch 5630, 5680 and 9120. Finally there's the 17-inch 9420 and 9520, along with a 20.1-inch monstrosity, the 9810. As generous as Acer is with laptop releases, they're a bit stingy on prices and release dates, but we expect to be seeing most of these laptops -- at least the ones that don't get stuck waiting around for a blue laser -- before long.

Read - Acer's Merom lineup
Read - Acer TravelMate 8210

Acer throws down 13 new Merom-based laptops originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 04 Sep 2006 16:47:00 EST.
