Read all about it: Swedish daily launches "newspaper phone"
When we first read the headlines, we thought those crazy Swedes had gone and produced a huge phone with an e-ink display capable of rendering the local news. Then we started thinking about what such a phone would look like, what capabilities it would have, how you would use basic phone functions with such a slow-rendering display, and we came to the conclusion that it wasn't a very good idea. Well, good news: we were totally off base. What Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter has actually done is partner with Nokia to produce a special version of the 6120 candybar with a dedicated "DN" button for heading straight to the rag's mobile site. We don't think it's that compelling of a feature, but locals apparently disagree; the paper said that immediately after launch, it "received so many calls that our switchboard broke down." The days of the printed newspaper may still be numbered, but it looks like adapting to the mobile-wielding minions might save 'em after all.
Hands-on with the Nokia 6120 Classic
Remember the good ol' days when life was simple, global GSM phones had two or three bands, and Nokia's S60 devices had four digits? Yeah, us too -- and we've gotta admit, there's a nostalgic little piece of us that's delighted to see that Nokia hasn't abandoned S60 outside of its Nseries altogether. The 6120 Classic is a great incognito smartphone; the casual observer would never suspect it to be anything more than a run-of-the-mill S40 device (albeit a particularly attractive one). It's small, the pearlescent white shell looks fantastic against the chrome accents, and the screen's bright. If there's anything negative we can say at a glance, it's that the phone's soft keys are a little awkwardly placed, causing us to hit the Menu and C keys accidentally on several occasions. Nokia's 6120 Classic: thin HSDPA is (finally) in
Great googlie mooglie, what's this? Can it really be a 15-millimeter thin candybar from Nokia, the makers of those chunky multimedia computers? Ok, it's not as thin as their N76 but let's give 'em some credit here for trying. Having fermented in the rumor mill for a few weeks, we now have ourselves a fully mature Nokia 6120 Classic running S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 over quad-band GSM and WCDMA/HSDPA 850/2100. The handset packs a 2-inch QVGA display, A2DP stereo Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, and MicroSD slot to store your media. A pre-tax, pre-contract price of €260/$352 will get you up close and personal when these hit sometime before June lets out. Check all the pics in the gallery below.
