Nokia ushers power-packed 6220 classic into India
Indians are among the very first lucky denizens of the world to get a crack at Nokia's 6220 classic, one of the high-end handsets introduced at Mobile World Congress back in February. Though it doesn't get slapped with an Nseries label, it probably should on account of a 5 megapixel camera with xenon flash, AGPS, TV-out, and HSDPA, all underpinned by S60 -- so why isn't it an N something-or-other, then? Our only guess is that it takes a moderately different, more conservative styling direction than the modern Nseries line, because we'd argue the local asking price of 19,959 rupees (about $464) is more than enough to push it into "multimedia computer" category.[Via Unwired View]

Aside from the N96, Nokia also rolled out the 6220 classic and 6210 Navigator sets this week at Mobile World Congress. Both of these sets while fairly vanilla in design pack huge piles of features under the hood, from a 5 megapixel camera on the 6220 to GPS and Nokia Maps 2.0 on the 6210. Both retail in the high $400 range, but if you're looking for a new set to fiddle with, either could fit the bill quite nicely.%Gallery-16009%

No question about it, the N78 and the N96 are the heavies in Nokia's Mobile World Congress announcements, but there are a couple gems on the lower end, too -- if you can really call a navigation-ready handset and a 5 megapixel smartphone "lower end." Taking advantage of the company's newly-introduced Maps 2.0 app, the 6210 Navigator succeeds the 6110 by adding pedestrian navigation and an accelerometer to make it more responsive than AGPS alone. The 6220 classic, meanwhile, is an S60 candybar that slots in beneath the Nseries lineup, but still manages to clean up in the photography department with a Carl Zeiss lens, 5 megapixel sensor, and xenon flash. Why should Nseries devices get all the 5 megapixel, S60-packin' fun? Nokia thinks they shouldn't, popping out the generously-spec'd 6220 classic at Mobile World Congress today. At a suggested retail of €325 (about $471), the attractive candybar slides well under the N96's hefty sticker while hanging onto a Carl Zeiss lens with a 5 megapixel sensor -- and actually outdoes its pricier cousin by adding a xenon flash. It'll also include integrated AGPS, TV out, microSD expansion, FM radio, and HSDPA 900 / 2100 alongside quadband EDGE when it becomes available in the third quarter of the year.%Gallery-15688%
CompAmerica unveils ultralight Snow Leopard 6220
Better known for its ultra-wide and uber-powerful lap-burners, CompAmerica is taking things down a few notches with its newly-released Snow Leopard 6220. Complimenting the high-end machines, this ultralight "bundle of mobile computing joy" sports the usual me-too white enclosure, 12-inch WXGA LCD, 1.2GHz Intel U1400 Core Solo processor, 512MB of RAM, 40GB 5400RPM hard drive, dual-layer DVD±R / RW burner, 802.11a/b/g, integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics set, and a 4-in-1 flash card reader. This 2.8-pound (including battery) notebook also sports a myriad of ports, including 4-pin FireWire, PCMCIA, 56k modem, audio out, Ethernet, VGA output, and a trio of USB 2.0 connectors. While the Windows XP-powered machine may mimic the ole MacBook at first glance, the magnesium alloy casing should withstand a bit more abuse, and the built-in fingerprint scanner offers up a warm feeling of security to boot.
