Eww, it's back. Nokia's 7900 Crystal Prism is now really, extra-super official with a scheduled Q1 2008 launch for €375 (before taxes and subsidies). Besides sporting a slight redesign from that earlier pic, we now know that the 7900 packs WCDMA 2100/850 in addition to those quad-GSM bands, 2-inch OLED, and 2 megapixel CMOS camera. But really, this one's all about the look created by designer Frédérique Daubal. Yeah, us neither. "Renowned" enough for Nokia though, just not the 9.4 million pages of Wikipedia. See her "dress for tired people" after the break to see where this could have gone.

Despite Asian availability for a few weeks now of the 7500 model, it seems Nokia has just today decided to make its so-called "Prism collection" official. Perhaps a great gift for the mathematics professor or physicist in your life, the two span the spectrum of radio coverage and features; the 7500 is naturally the lower-end of the two, featuring a QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, and data topping out at EDGE speeds. The 7900 adds a fourth band of GSM coverage (Americans may want to stay away from the 7500 thanks to an absence of GSM 850), WCDMA 850 / 2100, 1GB of internal storage, and a trick 2 inch OLED screen. Both phones ride atop Series 40 3rd Edition and should be in shops this quarter -- if they aren't already -- for €210 and €400 (about $288 and $549) respectively.

No word on official specifications or anything of that caliber just yet, but it looks like the geometry-inspired 7900 handset has an awfully similar sibling as well. Nokia's 7500 was caught on camera initially in a "spy picture" that resembles a horrific attempt at creating a Microsoft Paint masterpiece (seriously, it's after the break for your protection), but an entirely more stunning iteration hit the 'net shortly thereafter giving more legitimacy to its reality. Finally, the perfect gift for your child's seventh-grade math teacher, no?Read - Nokia 7500 spy pictureRead - Nokia 7500 "official" picture

  • Is this Nokia's geometry-happy 7900?

For a manufacturer that's arguably the most design conservative of the Big Five (or not), this here 7900 seems to be totally outside Nokia's comfort zone -- but who knows? We live in an era where Nokia's warmed up to American 3G, so we can say with confidence that crazier things have happened. Features are said to include WCDMA and quadband GSM, QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel cam, 1GB of internal storage, and an 11mm thick case that really brings out our inner mathematician. Until we see something a little more real on this one, though, we'll be filing it in the "fanboy rendering" cabinet.[Via IntoMobile]

  • Nvidia going HDCP compliant with a 7900-series graphics card

This went under the radar 'till TG Daily picked it up. Nvidia is prepping a version of their 7900 graphics card to be HDCP compliant and should be out sometime in July or August. The cards will be based on the 7900 GTX and GT flavors but will include everyones favorite content protection on the card. They do have plans to include HDCP in entry-level to mid-range level cards in the near future as well. There isn't any word on price yet but lets hope that it isn't any near their current HDCP card, the 7950 GX2. There are many times in consumer electronics it simply is not worth waiting till the next version is out - this one is.[via TG Daily]
