At the time, Kenji Tanaka, Senior General Manager of Sony’s Digital Imaging Group, told the publication that the company had embarked on a "complete redesign of the whole system, including the image sensor." Unfortunately, Tanaka's conversation was a little light on the technical detail. In the meantime, Sony Alpha Rumors has been dutifully chronicling new spces and features passed along by sources who claim to have been the camera's early testers.

Shooting in the dark with Sony's A7S II full-frame camera
Sony's marketing team may be reaching with its claims that the A7S II can turn night into day. But it isn't far off. The company's new full-frame mirrorless camera, announced last month, boasts an insane 409,600 ISO range -- making it the perfect companion for shooting your darkest moments. Compared to the original model, which also came with those night-friendly features, the A7S II sports the same 12.2-megapixel, full-frame CMOS sensor and Bionz X processor as its predecessor. Now, here's where things get interesting: Sony has added in-camera 5-axis image stabilization and internal 4K UHD recording at 24 and 30 fps. In addition to this, it also supports uncompressed 14-bit RAW files, up to 5 fps continuous shooting and photo-sharing via WiFi or NFC. The best part about it is that these high-end specs are all crammed inside a palm-sized body.

Sony unveils four much-needed lenses for the full-frame A7-II camera
We like Sony's full frame Alpha mirrorless A7-II and light-vacuuming A7s cameras, but the downside is a narrow range of full-frame lenses. It's now resolved the problem significantly with four new models, including a walk-around zoom and fast prime from Zeiss. The latter, a Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA auto-focus model, creates "gorgeous" images according to Steve Huff, though at $1,698, it's not for the faint of wallet. The Sony 24-240 f/3.5-6.3 AF zoom, on the other hand, is aimed at tourists with its optical stabilization, weather-sealed design and $1,000 price tag.

Full-frame and 4K-ready: The Sony Alpha A7s can be yours in July for $2,500
It's hard to believe that the Alpha A7 is about to have its successor hit the market, especially since a full-frame mirrorless camera from Sony was just a rumor not that long ago. Today, Sony announced that its Alpha A7s, which was revealed at NAB in Las Vegas last month, will be going on sale in July for a cool $2,500 (body-only). Sure, it is a pretty heavy price tag, but the A7s packs enough features inside to make it one of the most exciting shooters to date. Along with the 35mm full-frame, 12.2-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, Sony's newly minted ILC can also take 4K video (though you'll need an external drive to do so) and has an ISO range of 50 to 409,600. But there's a lot more where that came from, too -- things like built-in WiFi, NFC, a 25-point autofocus system and 4K movie output.
Sony's A7s turns night into (very noisy) day with ISO 409,600
This week, Sony announced the A7s, a full-frame mirrorless camera that captures 4K video. But the 12-megapixel shooter has a few more tricks up its sleeve, including a phenomenally high top sensitivity of ISO 409,600, matching the Hi4 setting of Nikon's much larger (and pricier) D4S. Sony commissioned DP Den Lennie to shoot a demo reel that highlights the camera's 4K capabilities, but he had another chance to test out the cam at NAB. This time, Lennie put high-ISO video capture to the test, comparing ISO 6400 through 409,600 in a single clip. The difference is staggering, and while that top sensitivity brings more noise than you'd tolerate for a formal production, it could definitely come in handy for surveillance activities. ASUS announces A7S, F3SV, F3SC, A8SC and W7S Santa Rosa laptops
Just in case the recent outpouring of Santa Rosa wasn't doing enough to keep you satisfied, ASUS just announced five laptops sporting the new mobile processor. None of 'em break much ground on the design or form factor side of things, but Santa Rosa isn't the only thing these laptops have going for them. The 17-inch A7S-7S006C runs a 2GHz T7300 Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, a 1440 x 900 screen and perhaps most excitingly, the new NVIDIA GeForce 8400G mobile graphics card with 896MB of RAM. For sheer power, the ASUS F3SV (pictured) is teh win, with T7100 to T7700 procs at its disposal, up to 2GB of RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M graphics with up to 1GB of RAM. The F3SC is similar, but steps graphics down to an 8400, with 384MB of RAM -- both laptops feature 1280 x 800 15.4-inch screens. The same graphics card ends up in the A8SC, alongside a 1.8GHz T7100 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 14.1-inch 1280 x 800 screen. Finally, the W7S brings up the rear with a 1.3-inch 1280 x 800 screen, T7100-T7500 processor, 2GB of RAM and 128MB of GeForce 8400 graphics. All of the laptops feature webcams of various resolution, along with plentiful connectivity. No word on when specifically these are due to wow us with their DirectX 10 prowess, or how much those fun and games will cost.
