If you're thinking "wait, isn't that attractive-looking, teardrop-shaped gizmo just its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/04/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-ipod-dock-airplay-speaker-plus-head/">inAir 500 AirPlay speaker</a>?" you'd be <em>sort-of </em>correct. While the system is nearly identical to the inAir, the unit itself isn't tied to iThings for wireless audio streaming -- instead, Altec's created its own "ecosystem" that'll support a variety of devices. After hooking the speaker up to your network, you can use any Android, iOS device or computer running the company's Live controller app to setup up a central playlist of your tunes. The music isn't sent to the cloud, but rather, streamed directly from each device's <span class="mceItemHidden">local catalog of music</span> -- salvation from the pains of aggregating your files to one central storage hub. Best of all, there's also support for services like Rhapsody, ensuring you'll be able to load up your music from wherever you normally would.<br /> <br /> We checked out an early build of the iPhone app (on an iPad), and the interface was simple and intuitive, but we're told to expect more polish in the final edition -- along with that missing tablet-sized version. Notably, the app allows playback to multiple speakers, giving you the option to set up various linkable "stages" to stream independent playlists to. We gave the unit a quick listen on the noisy show floor, and while it got plenty loud, the bass was on the anemic side, despite its 4-inch woofer. Highs and mids were alright, although, at times things felt a bit tinny to our ears. Of course, the hustle and bustle of CES isn't exactly the best spot for hearing how speakers like this sound, so we'll have to reserve final judgement until the unit ships this summer (not to mention that the testing material was streaming from Rhapsody). For now, hit up the gallery below for a closer look, and you'll find a press release past the break with more details. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-speaker-system-ears-on/">Altec Lansing Live 5000 WiFi speaker system (ears-on)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-speaker-system-ears-on/#4752174"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0071-1326558124_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-speaker-system-ears-on/#4752175"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0073-1326558125_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-speaker-system-ears-on/#4752176"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0074-1326558128_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-speaker-system-ears-on/#4752177"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0075-1326558129_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-speaker-system-ears-on/#4752178"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0076-1326558130_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <br /></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-music-system-makes-its-debut-plays/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing Live 5000 WiFi music system makes its debut, plays nice with Android and iOS (ears-on)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/altec-lansing-live-5000-wifi-music-system-makes-its-debut-plays/">Altec Lansing Live 5000 WiFi music system makes its debut, plays nice with Android and iOS (ears-on)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 11:30:00 EST. Believe it. Taking a sidestep from its usual <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/16/altec-lansing-debuts-new-ultraportable-imt630-speakers-for-iphon/">consumer-focused</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/altec-lansings-inmotion-air-speaker-system-streams-from-just-ab/">audio wares</a>, the company today announced a partnership with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/24/etymotic-hf2-custom-fits-bundles-acs-ear-mould-customization-se/">ACS Custom</a> to bring a trio of custom-molded IEMs, packing balanced-armature drivers to market. Each ear-mold is "handcrafted from advanced, medical-grade silicone" and you can expect noise isolation in upwards of 27dB, although, you'll somewhat disappointingly be stuck with Altec's signature smoked-grey and gold color scheme. The IEMs feature kevlar-wrapped cabling -- which notably, isn't removable like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/08/westone-es5-custom-in-ear-monitors-review/">similar offerings</a> at this price -- and a right-angle 3.5mm plug for hook-up.<br />
<br />
The trophy piece of the bunch, dubbed A3 (pictured), is aimed at music professionals and will retail for $1000, featuring a duo of treble and mid-range drivers along with a single woofer. For those leaning toward something less spendy, the $750 A2 variant drops one of the high / mid drivers in favor of a dual-driver setup, while the $500 A1 gets even smaller with a single full-range driver. Better yet, after ordering a set from Altec or an authorized retailer, you'll have a choice of about 300 audiologists -- hopefully within reasonable distance your abode -- to get you ear's impressions taken and sent over for creation. If you're willing to give 'em a shot, the Altec Lansing Custom Series IEMs will be available starting this month, and you'll find the full press release after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-custom-series-iems/">Altec Lansing Custom Series in-ear monitors</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-custom-series-iems/#4609267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/a1-in-ear-monitor-1321316305_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-custom-series-iems/#4609268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/a2-in-ear-monitor-1321316305_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-custom-series-iems/#4609269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/a3-in-ear-monitor-1321316306_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/15/altec-lansing-announces-a-trio-of-custom-series-in-ear-monitor/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing announces a trio of 'Custom Series' in-ear monitors -- no, seriously</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/15/altec-lansing-announces-a-trio-of-custom-series-in-ear-monitor/">Altec Lansing announces a trio of 'Custom Series' in-ear monitors -- no, seriously</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Nov 2011 09:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/alteclansing">Altec Lansing</a> just debuted a pair of new portable speaker docks for the iPhone and iPod dubbed the iMT630 Classic (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/04/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-ipod-dock-airplay-speaker-plus-head/">which we saw at IFA</a>) and Sport. What separates the two? The Classic comes in black, while the sport has options for teal and red (ooo... fancy). That's it. Otherwise they're the same units with a pull out connector and a compartment on the back that holds and conceals the remote when the stand is flipped up. Both docks also feature a rechargeable battery and the ability to interact with Altec's apps, like Alarm Rock and Music Mood. Both are shipping now for $150 but, before you go, check out the gallery below and the PR after the break, won't you?<br />

	<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AltecLansing/">Altec Lansing</a> is showing off a handful of updates to its line of audio accessories this week at IFA in Berlin. At top of the list is the newly revealed inAir 5000, a hefty tabletop AirPlay speaker that the company is firmly positioning to take on Bowers &amp; Wilkins' Zeppelin line (which also recently got its own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-air-review/">AirPlay version</a>). Like that system, the inAir certainly offers a unique take on aesthetics, with a teardrop design. The company opted not to install an Apple dock on the 110 watt system, given that compatible devices can stream audio wirelessly to the thing via AirPlay.<br />
	<br />
	The iMT630 Classic is, not surprisingly, a more traditional speaker dock. It's portable and light and features a docking shelf on the front that can be flipped out with the push of a button. Open up the stand on the back, and you'll find a spot for storing the speaker's remote. The remote itself is also magnetic, so you can stick it to the Classic's front grill (someone at the company has clearly lost a lot of remotes in their day). No word yet on pricing and availability for either speaker system.<br />
	<br />
	The company also showcased its Bliss Headphones, which are "designed for a Woman's ear." What does that mean, exactly? Mostly that their earbuds are smaller, fitting more comfortably in smaller ear canals. Altec Lansing assures us, however, that they're still capable of offering great sound, in spite of their size. And yes, they come in pink.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-airplay-system-and-ipod-dock-plus-headphones-for-the-ladies/">Altec Lansing shows off an AirPlay system and iPod dock, plus headphones for the ladies</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-airplay-system-and-ipod-dock-plus-headphones-for-the-ladies/#4419368"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/altec-lansing-ifadsc1265gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Altec Lansing shows off an AirPlay system and iPod dock, plus headphones for the ladies" title="Altec Lansing shows off an AirPlay system and iPod dock, plus headphones for the ladies" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-airplay-system-and-ipod-dock-plus-headphones-for-the-ladies/#4419369"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/altec-lansing-ifadsc1270gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-airplay-system-and-ipod-dock-plus-headphones-for-the-ladies/#4419370"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/altec-lansing-ifadsc1274gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-airplay-system-and-ipod-dock-plus-headphones-for-the-ladies/#4419371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/altec-lansing-ifadsc1278gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-airplay-system-and-ipod-dock-plus-headphones-for-the-ladies/#4419372"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/altec-lansing-ifadsc1281gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/04/altec-lansing-shows-off-an-ipod-dock-airplay-speaker-plus-head/">Altec Lansing shows off an iPod dock, AirPlay speaker, plus headphones for the ladies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 04 Sep 2011 19:31:00 EST. We know that this time of year can be pretty annoying and stressful for everyone, so we're here to help out with the heartbreaking process of gadget buying for the school-aged crowd. Today, we have speaker docks in our sights -- and you can head to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/backtoschool2011">Back to School hub</a> to see the rest of the product guides as they're added throughout the month. Be sure to keep checking back -- at the end of the month we'll be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/02/engadgets-back-to-school-2011-sweepstakes-were-giving-away-3/">giving away</a> a ton of the gear featured in our guides -- and hit up the hub page <a href="http://www.engadget.com/backtoschool2011">right here</a>.</em><br />

Yeah, studying's the hip thing to do, but waking up for class is arguably where success begins. Rather than relying on some ear-piercing tone emitted from one's cellphone, we prefer something more... substantial. Here, we'll be covering the best and brightest in speaker docks, also known as the alarm clock that your grandkids will eventually point at and laugh, mockingly. Jump past the break for our recommendations, and another opportunity to enter our back to school giveaway. Altec Lansing popped by our offices earlier today to show off the successor to its oversized <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/28/altec-lansing-mix-imt800-really-wants-to-be-a-boombox-isnt/">Mix iMT800</a> iPhone / iPod dock. There's not a heck of a lot to talk about in terms of changes with the iM810 -- the dock is now iPhone 4 certified, the gold trim has been changed to silver, and the amber LED has been swapped for blue. The company does get some bonus points for reenacting the one scene from <em>Say Anything</em> that anyone remembers with the winner of its in-office John Cusack look-alike contest, however. The new dock packs in a 5.25-inch subwoofer, a seven band graphic equalizer, and a slot for storing its little carabiner-equipped remote -- the hulking accessory can also achieve relative portability with the help of eight D size batteries. It's available now for $300, Peter Gabriel album not included. Press release after the break.<br />

<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/usb+speaker">USB speakers</a> aren't exactly headline-grabbing gadgets these days, but the fact remains that most laptops could still use a little help on the audio end. If you're in need of a quick fix for your weak-sounding machine, then Altec Lansing's $49.95 Orbit USB Stereo (iML247) might be worth your consideration. As the name says for itself, both power and audio input are managed through one USB cord, meaning no batteries are required here. Better yet, when not in use, you can simply fold up the legs, stuff the cables into the hollow ends, and then twist the speakers together to form one smooth tube for storage. Of course, note that this Orbit won't work with devices sporting the common 3.5mm headphone jack, and obviously don't expect cinematic sound quality from these tiny canisters -- hey, there's always a trade-off. Hands-on pics in the gallery below.<br />

It ain't drastically different than Altec's iDevice <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/altec-lansings-inmotion-air-speaker-system-streams-from-just-ab/">speaker docks</a> from earlier in the year, but if you're looking for a living room peripheral that'll output video from your iPod touch or iPhone, the outfit's Octiv 650 is certainly worthy of consideration. Ditching iPad support in favor of a cleaner, more compact design, this particular sound dock features a component / composite output as well as one other trick -- support for the free Music Mood app. Put simply, it'll pipe hallucinogenic visualizations onto your screen, all while cranking out the jams through a pair of three-inch, full-range drivers and a nested 4-inch subwoofer. We're told that YouTube and Netflix output is a go, and there's an auxiliary port thrown in for those pals who wander over with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/24/trekstor-showcases-i-beat-blaxx-portable-media-player/">worst-named PMP of all time</a>. Check it next month for a nickle under $200, and start mulling the most important decision of all right now: black... or slate?<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/05/altec-lansings-octiv-650-iphone-ipod-speaker-dock-does-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing's Octiv 650 iPhone / iPod speaker dock does video out, brings new meaning to Mood lighting</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/05/altec-lansings-octiv-650-iphone-ipod-speaker-dock-does-video/">Altec Lansing's Octiv 650 iPhone / iPod speaker dock does video out, brings new meaning to Mood lighting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 09:00:00 EST. Too Anti-Apple to buy into <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AirPlay/">AirPlay</a>? We feel you, and so does Altec Lansing. Here at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CES/">CES</a>, the outfit has just unveiled its latest speaker solution, the inMotion Air. Rather than catering specifically to iDevice users, this one's universal in nature -- hook a bundled adapter into your PC, and you can stream tunes to this here speaker from up to 300 feet away. There's also support for Bluetooth streaming, an internal battery that'll keep the good times rollin' for seven straight hours and a line-out connector in case you'd like to hook up a more robust set of drivers. The whole thing weighs just over a pound, and you'll even find a handle on the back for easy toting. It'll ship next month in slate black and gunmetal grey, with a retail price set at $199.95.<br />

No matter how much you love your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/product/apple-ipad">iPad</a>, there will always come a time when you feel the need to prop up this hefty tablet while simultaneously giving its audio and battery a little boost. Well, Altec Lansing thinks you do, anyway. Like the $99 SMK-Link PadDock 10 we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/smk-link-paddock-10-review/">reviewed</a> not long ago, Altec's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/16/altec-lansing-octiv-stage/">Octiv Stage</a> (or Octiv 450 outside the US) also provides a combo of swivel hinge and speakers for the iPad, but is this $149.95 dock worth the extra money? Read on to find out.<br />

We've always had a soft spot for Altec Lansing's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-202-speaker-dock-review/">wide array</a> of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/16/altec-lansing-octiv-stage/">speaker docks</a> -- these guys have been embedded in that space for an awfully long time, and the quality has always seemed up to snuff in our eyes. Er, <em>ears</em>. For whatever reason, it looks as if Altec is trying to replicate that success in the earbud market -- a market that's been growing increasingly crowded over the past couple of years as the portable media player and smartphone sectors have exploded. These days, a set of third-party headphones are nearly a requirement to fully enjoy whatever media player you've ended up with, and thus, hordes of companies have flocked to cater to the demand. The Ultra MZX606 earbuds ($99.95) popped onto the scene just two months ago, and now we've had a solid weekend to push the latest Underoath, Happy Body Slow Brain, Kanye West and Otis Redding jams through here. Hop on past the break for our impressions. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-hands-on/">Altec Lansing Muzx Ultra MZX606 earbuds hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-hands-on/#3590746"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/altec-lansing-premium-earbuds-hands-on-9097_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-hands-on/#3590745"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/altec-lansing-premium-earbuds-hands-on-9100_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-hands-on/#3590744"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/altec-lansing-premium-earbuds-hands-on-9101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-hands-on/#3590743"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/altec-lansing-premium-earbuds-hands-on-9103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-hands-on/#3590742"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/altec-lansing-premium-earbuds-hands-on-9104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/19/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing Muzx Ultra MZX606 earbuds review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/19/altec-lansing-muzx-ultra-mzx606-earbuds-review/">Altec Lansing Muzx Ultra MZX606 earbuds review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 19 Nov 2010 16:53:00 EST. Better late than never, right? That's the mantra that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AltecLansing/">Altec Lansing</a> is following with the introduction of the Octiv Stage. It's certainly not the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/05/iluvs-imm747-ipad-speaker-dock-keeps-it-classy-classic/">first</a> iPad-specific sound system on the market, but it's definitely one of the least <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/philips-fidelio-ds8550-ipad-speaker-dock-hands-on/">invasive</a>. Color us crazy, but we're thinking this subtle guy could actually sneak away in a rear corner of your home without drawing unnecessary amounts of attention to it, and we get the feeling that's exactly what Altec's after. Designed to operate in both portrait and landscape modes (courtesy of a rotating connection arm), this here dock can also tilt back and forward to give you lots of viewing angles. It's out today for a somewhat understandable $149.95, and just in case your long lost cousin busts out a Zune, the 3.5mm auxiliary jack will ensure that no one's made to feel ashamed. No promises on that last one, though.<br />

If you frequent small house parties like us, chances are you would've witnessed the many occasions where guests take turns to hook up their iDevices to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPodsoundsystem/">speakers</a>; if not, just picture yourself fighting your flatmates over your communal HiFi system -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/altec+lansing">Altec Lansing</a> claims that on average there are 2.2 portable audio devices per household, and they're most likely <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod">iPods</a>. Naturally, a dual-docking speaker -- which is nothing new -- would somewhat ease domestic tension and reduce interruption to the tunes, but think smarter: what if you could let music alternate between the devices, as well as having the ability to instantly change the amount of play time on both persons' music libraries? Better yet, what if the speaker doubles up as an alarm clock? These are pretty much what Altec's offering with its $99.95 Octiv Duo (or Octiv 202 outside the US), with a little help from its two free <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iOS">iOS</a> apps: Music Mix and Alarm Rock. You know the drill -- read on to find out whether this new box would end your little social crisis once and for all.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-202-speaker-dock-review/">Altec Lansing Octiv Duo speaker dock review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-202-speaker-dock-review/#3468464"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/octiv2022010-10-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-202-speaker-dock-review/#3468465"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/octiv2022010-10-14-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-202-speaker-dock-review/#3468466"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/octiv2022010-10-14-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-202-speaker-dock-review/#3468467"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/octiv2022010-10-14-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-202-speaker-dock-review/#3468468"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/octiv2022010-10-14-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-202-speaker-dock-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing Octiv Duo (202) speaker dock review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-202-speaker-dock-review/">Altec Lansing Octiv Duo (202) speaker dock review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 01 Nov 2010 17:22:00 EST. Altec Lansing's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/">Octiv Mini</a> just a wee bit too bantam for your needs? Fret not, as the same company has just issued a jumbo-sized version by the name of Octiv Duo ($99.95; ships in October). As the title implies, this iPod / iPhone speaker dock is capable of holding (and charging) a pair of iDevices, and a third unit can be juiced as well through the integrated USB port. If your pal's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/31/sansa-debuts-newly-designed-fuze-pmps/">Sansa Fuze+</a> somehow ends up over at your place, the model-agnostic auxiliary port should suffice. Oddly enough, it's a free accompanying app that really sells this thing -- the Music Mix application shuffles songs from both players and allows users to set the percentage of music played from each iPhone or iPod while docked, ensuring that you and your SO never stop bickering about who has the better playlist. In related news, the outfit has also introduced a trio of Muzx headphones, with the Core, Extra and Ultra editions shipping between now and next month for $29.99, $49.95 and $99.95 in order of mention. More details on each, along with a video of Music Mix in action, await you just beyond the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-and-muzx-earphones/">Altec Lansing Octiv Duo and Muzx earphones</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-and-muzx-earphones/#3365864"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mzx606_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-and-muzx-earphones/#3365866"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/m202-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-and-muzx-earphones/#3365868"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/m202-3qtr-2-iphones-app_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-and-muzx-earphones/#3365869"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/m202-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-duo-and-muzx-earphones/#3365871"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/m202-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/16/altec-lansing-intros-octiv-duo-ipod-speaker-dock-and-muzx-earbud/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing intros Octiv Duo iPod speaker dock and Muzx earbuds</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/16/altec-lansing-intros-octiv-duo-ipod-speaker-dock-and-muzx-earbud/">Altec Lansing intros Octiv Duo iPod speaker dock and Muzx earbuds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 16 Sep 2010 04:02:00 EST. We know -- you need another <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPodsoundsystem/">iPod sound system</a> about as bad as you need another mortgage, but why leave any one room lacking, right? <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AltecLansing/">Altec Lansing</a> has cranked out a rather unorthodox looking device this fine evening, certified to play nice with iPhone and iPod and deliver soothing jazz to whatever ears are fortunate enough to get close. The Octiv Mini (M102; $59.95) is yet another iPod / iPhone alarm clock, though this one ships with the Alarm Rock app in order to customize one's wake-up tunes from their bedside. Full specs should be popping up in that source link momentarily, and it'll ship to the last five remaining Americans who actually need one of these type devices in July. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/">Altec Lansing Octiv Mini</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/#3105085"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/altec-lansing-octiv-mini1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/#3105086"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/altec-lansing-octiv-mini2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/#3105087"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/altec-lansing-octiv-mini3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing serves up angular Octiv Mini iPod / iPhone sound system</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/altec-lansing-octiv-mini/">Altec Lansing serves up angular Octiv Mini iPod / iPhone sound system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 00:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Altec Lansing has been keeping itself fairly busy since introducing its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/altec-lansing-rolls-out-new-look-speakers-aplenty/">brand new look</a> a little over a year ago, and it's now back at CES with a new batch of audio products to keep things rolling. Leading things off is the inMotion Compact (iMT320) iPod speaker system, which is a slightly smaller, slightly cheaper followup to the company's inMotion Classic speaker system, and includes some nifty features like a folding leather-like cover that also doubles as a speaker stand -- look for it to be available in February for $80. That's complemented by the Octane Plus 2.1 Speaker System (pictured after the break), which will also run $80, and three new headphones in the company's MUZX DNA line that'll cost just $20 apiece but still promise "a full ranged, balanced sound."</div>

We've been playing with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/altec-lansings-inmotion-classic-has-good-looks-bad-price/">Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620</a> for a few days now, and before you think "man, not another iPhone stereo dock," look again. It was (mostly) love at first sight when we spotted this mini boombox -- sharp corners and minimalism are what <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/altec+lansing">Altec Lansing</a> does best these days, and the hint of retro isn't hurting anyone, either. Like the iMT620's predecessors, the inMotion series still bears the portability hallmark in the form of a built-in battery (up to five hours for this model), and now with the addition of a multifunctional handle as well. But is it really worth the $149 tag? Read on to find out. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-for-iphone-and-ipod/">Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620 for iPhone and iPod</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-for-iphone-and-ipod/#2446798"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/inmotion-classic-2009-11-12-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-for-iphone-and-ipod/#2446789"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/inmotion-classic-2009-11-12-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-for-iphone-and-ipod/#2446785"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/inmotion-classic-2009-11-12-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-for-iphone-and-ipod/#2446800"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/inmotion-classic-2009-11-12-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-for-iphone-and-ipod/#2446780"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/inmotion-classic-2009-11-10-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/19/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-iphone-stereo-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620 iPhone stereo review</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/19/altec-lansing-inmotion-classic-imt620-iphone-stereo-review/">Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620 iPhone stereo review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 19 Nov 2009 15:20:00 EST. And you thought <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/04/mad-catz-ships-300-fender-stratocaster-rock-band-guitar-disgra/">$300 fake guitars</a> were too much? They ain't got nothing -- <em>nothing</em> -- on this. Altec Lansing, the outfit famous for making those tinny speakers slammed into your laptop, has just popped out what could very well be the most hilarious non-<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/KIRF/">KIRF</a> product of the year. The Stage-Gig is modeled after a traditional wedge monitor, complete with the perforated grille, white spray-paint logo and carry handle (for "authentic roadie portability"). Within, you'll find a 6.5-inch driver and a 40-watt amplifier, and the idea here is to plug your console's audio directly in, enabling the Rock Band / Guitar Hero axe-slinger in your life to feel as if they're "playing in a live concert." It'll land next month for $99.95, and despite the fact that we can't stifle our chuckling, we want one in the worst way. And so do you, Dr. Love.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/10/20/altec.intros.amp.like.portable.speaker/">Electronista</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/21/altec-lansing-stage-gig-monitor-further-enforces-faux-rock-fanta/">Altec Lansing Stage-Gig monitor further enforces faux rock fantasies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 21 Oct 2009 09:59:00 EST. Speakers might be among the worst hardware to assess online. What do 36 watts of power output and a 40Hz to 20kHz response range tell you about the actual audio quality? A kindly soul over at <em>Macworld</em> has tried to clear that up for us with a review of Altec Lansing's prettified <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/altec-lansing-rolls-out-new-look-speakers-aplenty/">Expressionist Plus</a> 2.1 setup. The tiltable satellites score design points for their looks, though that all-important sound output was deemed only middle of the road. <em>Real</em> bass response begins at somewhere around 70Hz and the midrange is, well, middling, though treble definition is considered rich and well detailed. The reviewer also notes that while the design is attractive, the positioning of the power button and extra audio input on the subwoofer makes for awkward day-to-day use. On the whole, with online prices in the vicinity of $75, this looks like a decent value, so hit up the full review if your interest has been piqued.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/15/altec-lansing-fx3021-expressionist-plus-reviewed-deemed-good-va/">Altec Lansing FX3021 Expressionist Plus reviewed, deemed good value</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 15 Oct 2009 09:43:00 EST. There's a certain <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/live-from-apples-its-only-rock-and-roll-event/">low-profile shindig</a> going on today, and in its honor we thought we'd show off a new accessory you <em>might</em> need for your brand new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod,rumor">something or other</a>. Altec Lansing has updated its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/inmotion">inMotion line</a> of iPod / iPhone docks with the Classic, which takes the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/altec-lansing-launches-imv712-ipod-video-dock-im600-speakers/">iM600</a>, washes off most of the ugly, slaps on a multifunctional handle, and asks for the same $149 MSRP. An auxiliary input, FM tuner and rechargeable battery make it decently versatile, while the remote and the "cubby hole" for its storage score cuteness points aplenty. Unfortunately for Altec, the "cute" price range doesn't quite extend to the heights of its asking price, so it'll be down to sound quality to deliver the final verdict.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/altec-lansings-inmotion-classic-has-good-looks-bad-price/">Altec Lansing's inMotion Classic has good looks, bad price</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 10:28:00 EST. Gaze upon Altec Lansing's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/10/hands-on-with-altec-lansings-t612-iphone-docking-speakers/">history</a> of iPod / iPhone docks, and you shall see no hint, not even the subtle off-white coloring of an implication, that the company would go this boombastic with its latest offering. The Mix iMT800 might not quite have the necessary panache to compete with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/11/lasonic-and-rap-up-team-for-the-limited-edition-i931-boombox/">Lasonic i931</a>, but it still talks a good fight. With a 5.25-inch side-firing subwoofer, it should live up to its boast of "towering volume," while a pair of useful 3.5mm line inputs will allow you to jack in non-Apple players too. We've got a couple more images after the break, including the totally rad remote and mean-looking woofer, and if you like what you see, they're available now for $299.<br />

We all yearn for a life lived sans wires, yet many of us still find our media players dangling from the things. Mono Bluetooth headsets are already <em>everywhere</em>, but this could be the year that those of the stereo variety take off, and Altec Lansing's hoping its new BackBeat series will be a contender. They're made in partnership with earpiece-guru <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/plantronics">Plantronics</a>, so callers will find integrated voice dialing, omnidirectional microphones, 7 hours of talk time, and AudioIQ to boost volume when you're in a noisy situation. For the music listener the sets include tune-channeling, canal-sealing buds, a behind-the-head band, and support for A2DP, AVRCP, HSP v1.1 and HFPv1.5. For those devices that list doesn't cover (we're looking at you, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iphone/">iPhone</a>), the $130 BackBeat 906 includes a small transmitter. Everyone else can opt for the otherwise identical but transmitter-less BackBeat 903, which is $30 cheaper. We look forward to getting our ears on these at CES -- hopefully after they've had a thorough cleaning. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/09/01/05/altec.lansing.bt.headset/">iPodNN</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/the-word-is-on-the-street-about-altec-lansings-backbeat-bluetoo/">The word is on the street about Altec Lansing's BackBeat Bluetooth headphones </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 09:55:00 EST. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/09/01/05/altec.lansing.bt.headset/">iPodNN</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/accessories/" rel="tag">Accessories</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/the-word-is-on-the-street-about-altec-lansings-backbeat-bluetoo/">The word is on the street about Altec Lansing's BackBeat Bluetooth headphones </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 09:54:00 EST. If HP's latest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HDX16">16-inch notebook</a> didn't grab you for reasons like: "That's a whole 0.4-inches bigger than my desk," then you're in luck, because for about half the price you can now pick up a Pavilion G60-120US Notebook PC -- HP's first 15.6-inch model. The G60, with 1,366 x 768 resolution display, comes caked with all the ho-hum features you might expect from a $629.99 price tag: 2GHz AMD Turion X2 dual-core processor, GeForce 8200M graphics card, webcam, DVD burner, WiFi, Bluetooth, ExpressCard slot and 250GB hard drive. On the other hand, it's got 3GB RAM, Altec Lansing speakers and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hdmi">HDMI</a> output, weighing in at a palatable 6.06 pounds. Not a bad deal, who needs a lousy HDX anyway, right?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://laptoping.com/hp-g60.html">Laptoping</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/22/hps-pavilion-g60-120us-laptop-tries-on-a-15-6-inch-lcd/">HP's Pavilion G60-120US laptop tries on a 15.6-inch LCD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 22 Sep 2008 23:11:00 EST. <div align="left">Altec Lansing sure came out fighting today, with it not only debuting a brand new logo, but a bundle of new speakers and iPod docks that sport the new branding. The most stand-out, by far, are the Expressionist Bass speakers pictured above, which are a full ten inches high and include built-in 4-inch subwoofers and two 1.5-inch drivers apiece. Look for them to set you back $130 when they're released next month in both black and white versions. On the slightly less intimidating front, Altec Lansing has the $40 Orbit MP3 iM237 single-speaker unit, which runs on three AAA batteries, and a pair of new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/inmotion">inMotion</a> iPod speaker systems: the inMotion Moondance GLOW and the inMotion MAX, the former of which even includes a special "snooze remote." Look for those to run you $200 and $180, respectively -- pics after the break.<br /></div>

To boot, it charges the thing and has incoming call support -- more than slightly mitigated by the fact that you still have to actually remove the phone from the dock to take the call, a drawback the Altec Lansing rep said was because Apple neglected to include support for passing call audio across the docking interface. Still, if you happen to use your iPhone as jukebox at home or work, you can pick up this quite decent-sounding speaker system in February if it's worth $200 to you.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/10/hands-on-with-altec-lansings-t612-iphone-docking-speakers/">Hands-on with Altec Lansing's T612 iPhone docking speakers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Jan 2008 18:28:00 EST. You can't run around launching fancy new music players these days without a secondary offensive of cases and car chargers following close behind, and Microsoft's new <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/zune">Zunes</a> have a veritable cavalry behind them. In addition to the official accessories we've already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/02/microsofts-new-zunes-officially-in-80-8-and-4gb-sizes/">heard</a> about from J Allard and crew, the company's lined up a number of third-party manufacturers to crank out 60 different Zune-friendly products, including Polk, Belkin, DLO, Monster, Altec Lansing, Targus, iHome, Memorex and Griffin. Microsoft's new pals will be releasing everything from speaker docks to RCA cables, so it looks like you'll be able to build a happy little home for that new Zune of yours when it launches next month.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/30/microsoft-talks-third-party-zune-accessories/">Microsoft talks third-party Zune accessories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 30 Oct 2007 17:44:00 EST. <div align="left">Altec Lansing was among the first to offer a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/12/altec-lansings-m602-made-for-ipod-and-uh-zune/">speaker dock</a> for the original Zune, and it now looks set to accommodate the latest batch as well, with the company apparently nearly a release for its "Designed for Zune" inMotion iM414 speaker system. While we're a bit skeptical of Altec Lansing's claims of "immersive, crystal-clear sound," the system does look to be fairly decent as far as these things go, with it boasting some 3.2-watt speakers with 2-inch neodymium drivers, a built-in FM radio, a remote, and a spare input jack for your other audio gear. It'll also, of course, charge your Zune while it plays, and it'll even hold some batteries if you want to tote it along with you. As they've <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/08/altec-lansing-to-launch-inmotion-im510-speaker-dock-for-sandisk/">shown in the past</a>, Altec Lansing hasn't forgotten about SanDisk users either, with the nearly identical inMotion iM413 model for Sansa players also said to be "coming soon," for the same $100 price as the Zune version.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9793437-1.html?part=rss&amp;tag=feed&amp;subj=Crave">Crave</a>]<br /></div>

The company -- known for making all kinds of funky gear to facilitate rockin' good times and totally bodacious partying -- has just released a handful of new products aimed at the iPod or PC user who needs to get his or her sound heard. First on the list is the $129.95 IMT521 Soundblade (pictured), a totally righteous device that uses your wireless waves to blast the latest Rihanna jam from whatever Bluetooth-equipped device you happen to have laying around (mobile phone, PMP, the truck from <em>Maximum Overdrive</em>... er, wait). Also in your musical future is the $39.95 IMT207 Orbit-M and the IM207 Orbit-MP3, circular speaker devices that let you pipe your 100,000-million-song playlists into an actual speaker (via the headphone jack) and rock for 24-hours straight on three AAA batteries. The company is also offering the cute-as-a-button IMT127 Nobi ($39.95), a small, square speaker that's aimed at Nokia XpressMusic users, and the $99.95, PC-centric SoundBar; a strip-speaker that sits between you and your monitor for full-blast audio action. No word on street dates, but rumor has it these are headed out sometime in October.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/10/altec-lansing-intros-a-slew-of-audio-output-options/">Altec Lansing intros a slew of audio output options</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 Sep 2007 19:41:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=altec+lansing">Altec Lansing</a>'s unveiled its own entry into the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SoundBar/">sound bar</a> market, designed to cut down the number of components and match up with that sleek new flat panel TV. The PT8051 consists of two parts, with left center and right channels up front, and left/right channels in the rear wireless speaker, while the PT7031 uses virtual speaker technology from Dolby Labs to give 5-channel surround through one piece with three speakers in it. Whether the sleek design and easy setup can provide a surround sound experience comparable to discrete systems remains to be seen, as both will be available in August: the PT8051 for $999.5 and the PT7031 for $599.95. We caught a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/altec-lansing-launches-imv712-ipod-video-dock-im600-speakers/">glimpse</a> of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=altec+lansing">Altec Lansing's</a> iMV712 audio / video <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod">iPod</a> superdock during <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ces">CES</a>, but they haven't been available until today. Looking like the unholy love child of the ubiquitous <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2004/08/24/altec-lansing-releases-inmotion-im3-for-4g-ipod/">iM3</a> and a portable DVD player, Altec's new top-of-the-line speaker dock sports an 8.5-inch "high-resolution" LCD, a universal iPod dock, a remote control, a "stage" for non-iPod MP3 players, and two 3-inch drivers backed up by a 4-inch subwoofer. While that screen seems a little superfluous -- it doesn't show <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/10/wheres-the-digital-jewel-case/">cover art</a> or anything during audio playback and we're not quite certain where you'd watch movies on it (kitchens? prison cells?) -- at $350 this bad boy's a no-brainer over, say, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/28/ipod-hi-fi-brings-music-to-the-masses/">iPod Hi-Fi</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/speakers/" rel="tag">Speakers</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/02/altec-lansing-starts-shipping-the-imv712-mini-theater-system/">Altec Lansing starts shipping the iMV712 "mini-theater system"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 02 May 2007 22:06:00 EST. Altec Lansing's just rolled out its iMV712 ($350), an 8.5-inch "high-res" LCD paired with 3-inch speakers and 4-inch woofer. Yeah, and it's got a remote, too. However, and 8.5-inch screen won't do you much good unless you're situated pretty close to it. Meanwhile, good ol' Altec's also released a more traditional speaker dock, the iM600 ($150) has an iPod dock, FM radio tuner, remote and a "Sound Field Expander" to get your "artificial spacialization" on (whatever that is). There's also a rechargeable battery, aux in, woofer out, composite video out and mini USB, all for good measure. We're still waiting on when these speaker docks will actually be ready for purchase, so until then we'll just have to make do with our old docks, or heaven forbid, headphones. Slide on over to the next page for a glimpse of the iM600.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/altec-lansing-launches-imv712-ipod-video-dock-im600-speakers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing launches iMV712 iPod video dock, iM600 speakers</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/altec-lansing-launches-imv712-ipod-video-dock-im600-speakers/">Altec Lansing launches iMV712 iPod video dock, iM600 speakers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 08 Jan 2007 16:05:00 EST. The set features a dock and speaker which communicate to one another via 802.11g, as well as an IR remote. Altec Lansing claims that audio can be transmitted as far as 100 feet, but your mileage may vary if you have other devices connected to your network. The speaker itself has two 4-inch woofers and a 1-inch tweeter, with the most notable feature that each speaker can be assigned a left / right channel so you can put a pair of them together for a true stereo experience. Better still, the word from ol' Uncle Alt is that one dock can be linked to a maximum of 9 speakers. The dock also sports an FM tuner and an auxiliary input for connecting other portable media players that aren't the iPod. Should be available this spring.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/altec-lansing-cut-the-wire-between-ipod-dock-and-speaker-in-the/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Altec Lansing cuts the wire between iPod dock and speaker in the M812</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/wireless/" rel="tag">Wireless</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/altec-lansing-cut-the-wire-between-ipod-dock-and-speaker-in-the/">Altec Lansing cuts the wire between iPod dock and speaker in the M812</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 08 Jan 2007 10:35:00 EST. Altec Lansing wants you to know that they've got another cheapazz, 5.1 surround sound rig ready to enhance your gaming, music, or movie experience. For $79, you can treat yourself to the VS3251 which features five, 9W satellites with 2.5-inch full-range drivers and a 25W subwoofer with 5-inch driver. The kit ships with a remote control, a couple of unspecified inputs for audio sources, and a headphone jack located inconveniently on the sub which will more than likely find itself tucked away in some corner. Perhaps the most interesting part of this set-up is that Altec Lansing thinks the look is "chic" -- er yeah, that's <a href="poo">the word</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/06/altec-lansings-vs3251-5-1-system-so-chic-it-hurts/">Altec Lansing's VS3251 5.1 system: so chic it hurts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 06 Nov 2006 09:54:00 EST. While <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=%2BiPod+%2Bdock">iPod speaker docks</a> are a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/11/ipod-docks-galore-clutter-up-retail-channels/">dime a dozen</a>, third-party Zune docks are still mysterious little vixens with only the HiFi-esque <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/28/vaf-researchs-octavio-speaker-dock-a-hifi-for-zune/">Octavio</a> as yet semi-revealed. Now this from Altec Lansing which is touted as one of them "designed for Zune" accessories, but looks exactly like their <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/04/altec-lansing-intros-m602-ipod-speaker-system/">"Made for iPod" M602</a> only in a color scheme designed to swaddle the Zune in earthiness. Well, at least now we know what they meant by a "universal MP3 cradle." So go ahead, ogle this one for a bit, no need to feel ashamed... or jaded. Still, smart move on Altec Lansing's part dontchathink?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.zuneinsider.com/2006/10/new_zune_access.html">Zune Insider</a>, Thanks lt.milo]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/12/altec-lansings-m602-made-for-ipod-and-uh-zune/">Altec Lansing's M602: "made for iPod" and, uh, Zune</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 12 Oct 2006 08:45:00 EST. If you've settled on picking up a SanDisk Sansa <a href="http://ces.engadget.com/2006/01/05/sandisks-sansa-e200-expandable-2-4-6gb-music-player/">e200</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/01/sandisk-intros-sansa-c200-player/">c200</a> but feel a bit left in the cold in terms of specialized accessories, Altec Lansing is rushing in to heat things up. In what appears to be a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/22/sandisk-wants-you-to-say-idont-to-ipod/">spinoff</a> of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/01/13/apple-launches-made-for-ipod-seal/">"Made for iPod"</a> agenda, Altec Lansing has partnered with SanDisk to create a lineup of accessories geared specifically towards the Sansa music players. The flagship device -- dubbed the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=inmotion">inMotion</a> iM510 -- is a black docking speaker station that doesn't veer too far from the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/04/altec-lansing-intros-m602-ipod-speaker-system/">iPod-friendly</a> versions, save for its Sansa compatibility, of course. While details thus far are a bit slim, we do know the portable system will dock, sync, and charge the e200 and c200 series DAPs, and will play nice with the (optional) BB2001 subwoofer. Although no word on pricing nor availability has been given, the coinage should be a tad lower (we'd guess, um, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/18/apple-wants-a-10-cut-of-all-made-for-ipod-accessories/">10 percent or so</a>) than the iPod-conforming units when it hits the street.<br />

The M602, proudly sporting the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/01/13/apple-launches-made-for-ipod-seal/">Made for iPod</a> badge, is ready and willing to accept your third-generation (or later) iPod care of the dock connecting cradle, but also includes a "universal MP3 cradle" and an aux-in port just in case you'd prefer to use something else. The unit is a bit thick at 5.4-inches, and stands 8.2-inches tall and 14 wide. Sporting two full-range drivers and two tweeters, this system pumps out 60 watts of block-rocking beats, and also includes a wireless remote with your basic volume / track controls. The M602 is a bit limited in functionality, but throws in individual bass / treble adjustments and a composite video-out that are occasionally missing from lower-priced units. Taking the ho hum iPod sound system to the ranks of, well, plain 'ole average, is the hidden LED lights behind that grille that provide a visual representation that your remote commands are being seen (just like the Hi-Fi). Unfortunately this unit cannot be powered by batteries, so your soundwaves are limited by proximity to an AC outlet, and although an absolutely free (just add shipping) wall-mount kit is available when ordered direct from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=%22altec+lansing%22">Altec Lansing</a>, we beckon: would it not have been easier to just toss that in? Just in case you haven't picked up an iPod sound system yet, and somehow see something here that stands out from the baffling array of alternatives, the M602 can be picked up now for $199.95.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://playlistmag.com/news/2006/08/02/altec/index.php">Playlist Mag</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/04/altec-lansing-intros-m602-ipod-speaker-system/">Altec Lansing intros M602 iPod speaker system</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 04 Aug 2006 09:04:00 EST.
