In a bid to quell any potential surprises at E3 next month, Mark said outrightly that his company is not interested in getting into the console world. "We're aiming for you," he said while pointing at Swisher. "We're going after the mainstream market. There's too much friction [in the console world]."</p><p> He also made clear that he tries to not look too far ahead of where the world really is. When talking about the undeniable shift to mobile, he made clear that there's still a huge amount of desktop traffic on Zynga's games -- "lots of people play while bored on conference calls at work," he quipped. It's an interesting viewpoint in a world where PSN and Xbox Live Arcade has given independent developers all new distribution platforms to reach users, but it also highlights the outfit's intrinsic attachment to Facebook in particular.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/30/zynga-ceo-mark-pincus-no-console-gaming-facebook-business/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zynga CEO Mark Pincus says 'no thanks' to console gaming, isn't worried about a life detached from Facebook</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/30/zynga-ceo-mark-pincus-no-console-gaming-facebook-business/">Zynga CEO Mark Pincus says 'no thanks' to console gaming, isn't worried about a life detached from Facebook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 13:02:00 EST. Unfortunately, it includes one of mobile gaming's biggest hitters: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AngryBirds/"><em>Angry Birds</em></a>. We gave installation a go on our own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/27/nokia-lumia-610-hands-on-video/">Lumia 610</a> and were met with the unfortunate message seen above. According to <em>WindowsPhoneApps Spanish</em>, it's not the only one affected by the reduction in RAM on these lower-priced smartphones. <em>PES 2012</em> won't run on the lower-specced smartphone, while videocall app Tango also joins its rival Skype on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/22/nokia-skype-lumia-610/">no-go</a> list.</p><p> <strong>Update:</strong> Nokia's confirmed that Rovio is, indeed, working on an optimized version of <em>Angry Birds</em> for the Lumia 610, though an exact release date is still up in the air.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/28/angry-birds-wont-work-on-windows-phones-with-256mb-ram/">Angry Birds and PES 2012 join Skype: won't work on Windows Phones with 256MB RAM (updated)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 28 May 2012 06:02:00 EST. Fueled by the success of <em><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/12/shigeru-miyamoto-angry-birds/">Angry Birds</a>, Seasons</em> and <em><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/14/angry-birds-rio-will-be-exclusive-to-amazon-appstore-on-android/">Rio</a>,</em> the company grew by a factor of eight in the last year, from 28 employees all the way to 224. The company adds that the three games were downloaded 648 million times and are now used by 200 million daily users, while sales of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/angry-birds-gets-real-corporeal-in-china-at-least/">merchandise</a> contributed to around 30 percent of the total revenue. The report adds that the only barrier to future profits is if people stop buying new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/idc-q1-2012-shipments/">smartphones</a>, but we're not sure that's likely to be the case for a while.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/07/rovio-2011-financials/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rovio makes a Mighty Eagle's $68 million in profit in financial squawk</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/07/rovio-2011-financials/">Rovio makes a Mighty Eagle's $68 million in profit in financial squawk</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 May 2012 15:23:00 EST. The evil pigs of purchase inhibition taken the valuable eggs of smartphone desire and captured them within a complex structure. Fortunately, there are a number of powerful birds that can be slung through the air, space or various sets of children's movies to smash down the structure. Helping further speed its forward merchandising momentum is the Finnish company's recent acquisition of Futuremark Game Studios -- formerly an offshoot of benchmarking outfit <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Futuremark/">Futuremark</a>. The small developer, while <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/26/angry-birds-10-million-downloads/">nowhere near as successful</a> as its new parent company, has a trio of titles, like <em>Hungribles</em> and <em>Unstoppable Gorg</em>, currently available across the iOS, PC and Xbox platforms. A team from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/15/purdue-university-grad-students-give-nasa-lander-tech-a-boost-d/">Purdue University</a> found that nearly three quarters of the power used when you run an app like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/app-review-angry-birds-android/">Angry Birds</a> is actually used for adverts. It developed <em>eprof</em>, an app that investigates what processes are draining from your battery. Loading it onto the very old-school Android-powered <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/01/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-slide-review/">myTouch 3G</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/nexus-one-review/">Nexus One </a>(not to mention a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/07/htc-p4550-kaiser-gets-name-meet-the-htc-tytn-ii/">HTC TyTn II</a> running <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/06/windows-mobile-6-5-review/">Windows Mobile 6.5</a>). Drilling down into those Angry Birds figures: the game itself only consumes 18 percent of the power, while advertising platform <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/03/app-downloads-top-1-billion-during-the-holiday-week/">Flurry</a> has 45 percent and GPS location tracking a further 15 percent. Project leader Abhinav Pathak lays the blame at the feet of poorly coded apps that need to be made significantly more efficient. He's now working with Microsoft to bring his software to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowsPhone/">Windows Phone</a> and will present his findings at the EuroSys conference in Bern next month. If you don't think you'll be able to give up free apps, just remember to shut down GPS before you start <em>smashing those pigs</em>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/20/free-apps-power-drain/">Study: free apps drain 75 percent more power, badly built advertising to blame</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 20 Mar 2012 12:59:00 EST. It's with this in mind that Samsung is showcasing Rovio's latest creation, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/08/angry-birds-space-gameplay-video/">Angry Birds Space</a>, running on the Galaxy Note at SXSW in Austin, Texas. We took a moment to get our feisty paws on the demo, which showcases the weightless, space-like trajectories that players must contend with in the game. Exclusive to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/galaxynotelte">Galaxy Note</a>, users will find a bonus level of play, in addition to the free Danger Zone add-on -- a collection of 30 levels that'll be available to the masses as an in-app purchase. If you haven't been keeping score, the game will make its official debut on March 22nd. So what're you waiting for? Hop the break for the PR and watch as we take revenge on those fiendish pigs!<br /><br /><em>Myriam Joire contributed to this report.</em><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-and-rovio-at-sxsw-2012/">Samsung and Rovio at SXSW 2012</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-and-rovio-at-sxsw-2012/#4888676"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/samsungroviosxsw02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-and-rovio-at-sxsw-2012/#4888677"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/samsungroviosxsw03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-and-rovio-at-sxsw-2012/#4888675"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/samsungroviosxsw01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-and-rovio-at-sxsw-2012/#4888678"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/samsungroviosxsw04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-and-rovio-at-sxsw-2012/#4888679"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/samsungroviosxsw05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/09/hands-on-with-angry-birds-space-at-sxsw-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on with Angry Birds Space at SXSW (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/09/hands-on-with-angry-birds-space-at-sxsw-video/">Hands-on with Angry Birds Space at SXSW (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Mar 2012 20:45:00 EST. Fortunately, makers Rovio has now leaked out a very brief taster in its lastest video. Over the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/14/apple-nears-ten-billion-downloads-in-app-store-should-hit-it-wi/">past year</a> Cupertino's been keeping its greatest hits up to date in the App Store, and it's made another adjustment to the page in celebration of reaching the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/03/apple-app-store-25-billion/">25 billion download</a> mark. The best of the best shouldn't come as much of a surprise -- Angry Birds and its 12 versions are in there, as well as Fruit Ninja, Pandora and Facebook. But if you're even the slightest bit curious as to what else made it to the top of the charts, feel free to scope out the complete listing at the link below.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/app-store-greatest-hits/">After 25 billion downloads, Apple unveils the App Store's greatest hits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Mar 2012 17:59:00 EST. But, if we had Simon Ford's home-made slingshot controller, we might still be addicted to hurling the pissed-off poultry through the air. The DIY peripheral is built around an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mbed">mbed</a> microcontroller, three-axis accelerometer and a stretch sensor. Pinching and pulling the band initiates a click and drag, while the position of the slingshot itself determines the angle of launch. It's not the easiest gaming controller hack we've ever seen but, if you can follow directions, you could build your own courtesy of the instructions at the source link. If you're a little too intimidated to try it yourself, check out the video after the break to see it in action.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/make-angry-birds-awesome-again-with-diy-slingshot-controller/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Make Angry Birds awesome again with DIY slingshot controller</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/make-angry-birds-awesome-again-with-diy-slingshot-controller/">Make Angry Birds awesome again with DIY slingshot controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Feb 2012 12:23:00 EST. We're not sure how the phablet's 5-inch (or possible 10.1-inch) display comes into play, but the extra area can't hurt. As you can probably guess, the hook this time around will be some new physics to deal with, including zero gravity and a new "lightspeed destruction" feature, but details on the game itself otherwise remain a bit light, including any specific word on supported platforms. Rovio is apparently planning a big push at launch though, with a simultaneous rollout planned across "mobile gaming, animation, retail, and publishing." It's also promising to reveal more details ahead of that in early March.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/angry-birds-space-announced-for-march-22nd-release-nasa-and-nat/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Angry Birds Space announced for March 22nd release, NASA and National Geographic lending a hand</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/angry-birds-space-announced-for-march-22nd-release-nasa-and-nat/">Angry Birds Space announced for March 22nd release, NASA and National Geographic lending a hand</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 17 Feb 2012 12:41:00 EST. While plenty of other toy companies have tried pairing hunks of plastic with apps in the past, Mattel has gone the extra mile, incorporating its recognizable brands and partnering with top tier developers. Later this year the company will launch Apptivity, a line of toys made from conductive plastic that interact with iPad games -- some which you're already quite familiar with, like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cuttherope">Cut the Rope</a>, Fruit Ninja and, of course, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/angrybirds">Angry Birds</a>. The games will get an update when the toys hit the market with new features and play modes specifically designed to utilize the physical pieces. Other brands, including WWE, Batman and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hotwheels">Hot Wheels</a> will also be part of the first batch of toys designed to be played with on your iPad screen.<br /><br />None of the apps or the toys themselves were quite ready for prime time yet, but Hot Wheels, WWE, Fruit Ninja and Cut the Rope were all at least playable. The Apptivity mode in Cut the Rope and Fruit Ninja are pretty intuitive, but it took a bit of practice to get the hang of Hot Wheels. We had trouble finding the sweet spot on the screen that kept our car speeding along while leaving room to see upcoming obstacles. The line of toys will launch exclusively in Apple Stores in May with Hot Wheels (which will cost $20), followed by the rest in July. It's Valentines Day that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/angry-birds-gets-a-web-version-in-google-chrome/">Angry Birds</a> will finally arrive on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/24/facebook-timeline-goes-live/">ubiquitous social network</a> -- just in time to ensure half the coupled population of the world misses its dinner reservation, in order to get past one more level. The basic game will be free, but upgrades like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/nokia-asha-brings-angry-birds-to-the-developing-world-mighty-ea/">Mighty Eagle</a>, double-sized birds, an earthquake weapon and a max-strength catapult will cost you. It'll be launched in Jakarta around the same time you offer up that heart-shaped box of chocolates, so if you want to ensure the day remains romantic, we'd suggest waiting until the 15th before installing.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/27/angry-birds-facebook/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>February 14th is Valen... If you're going to steal, steal from the best. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/jxd/">JXD</a> has just released its S7100, a fairly conspicuous 7-inch Android-powered gaming tablet marketed towards playing old-school arcade games. The device features a D-pad, face buttons, an 800 x 480 capacitive touchsceen, ARM Cortex A9 CPU, Mali 400 GPU, 512MB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 0.3 megapixel front camera, 2.0 megapixel rear camera and HDMI-out. A video trailer shows the unit playing a variety of touchscreen games and classic ROMs including <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/18/lego-rc-tank-captured-in-action-by-lego-rc-camera-rig/"><em>Metal Slug</em></a>, <em>Mario Kart 64</em>, <em>Angry Birds</em>, <em>Plants Vs. Zombies</em> and <em>Fruit Ninja HD</em>. Not to be undone, the device also features the actual PlayStation button icons on its own buttons (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/04/gemeis-a320-pmp-borrows-sonys-button-symbols-forgets-to-say/">sound familiar</a>?), while the marketing website for the device sports icons from Apple, Google, Microsoft and others. If you're thus far undeterred, there's a must-watch promotional vid hosted just after the break -- nothing justifies a $140 price tag like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/27/justin-bieber-attempts-daring-segway-escape-from-mob-of-screamin/">Bieber</a>, right?</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/27/jxd-releases-s7100-android-based-gaming-tablet-manages-to-steal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>JXD releases S7100 Android-based gaming tablet, manages to steal from everyone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/27/jxd-releases-s7100-android-based-gaming-tablet-manages-to-steal/">JXD releases S7100 Android-based gaming tablet, manages to steal from everyone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 27 Dec 2011 00:54:00 EST. It may not exactly be the good news RIM fans have been hoping for, but those committed to the company's products do now at least have two more big-name apps at their disposal. First up is Spotify, which is now <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/19/spotify-releases-preview-app-for-blackberry-users-but-not-all-o/">out of beta</a> and available for GSM-based BlackBerry smartphones including the Bold 9780, Bold 9700, Curve 9300, Bold 9000, and Curve 8520. The app itself is free but, as with the company's other mobile apps, you'll need a $10/month Spotify Premium subscription to take advantage of mobile streaming. While there's no word on it hitting the PlayBook any time soon, users of RIM's tablet can now finally get a taste of that little <em>Angry Birds</em> game that's apparently available for a few other platforms. That includes the original game, plus <em>Angry Birds Seasons</em> and <em>Angry Birds Rio</em>, each of which will set you back $5 apiece.<br />

It's been a big year for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Roku/">Roku</a>. The streaming content box manufacturer launched its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/roku-2-hd-xd-and-xs-officially-launch-same-price-smaller-siz/">Roku 2 HD, XD and XS</a> this summer, with a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/11/roku-announces-50-lt-model-will-add-hbo-go-streaming-to-all-it/">$50 LT model</a> coming just last month. Now, the Netflix / HBO Go / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/30/roku-adds-more-games-cleans-up-the-pq-on-its-latest-streamers/"><em>Angry Birds</em></a> player will cross the border into Canada and the U.K., with the expansion set to begin in early 2012. The company is looking to build its 350 channels with region-specific content, which can be provided free, supported by ads or with a subscription -- and if you choose to add your own content to the service, you'd certainly be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/27/engadget-comes-to-your-tv-on-boxee-roku-yahoo-and-divx-startin/">in good company</a>.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/17/roku-planning-to-bring-set-top-boxes-to-canada-uk-in-early-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Roku planning to bring set-top boxes to Canada, UK in early 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/17/roku-planning-to-bring-set-top-boxes-to-canada-uk-in-early-2012/">Roku planning to bring set-top boxes to Canada, UK in early 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 11:36:00 EST. Slingshots and unbridled rage might be enough to launch Rovio's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Angrybirds">furious fowl</a> across the battlefield, but they'll need some outside help if they hope to break free of Earth's atmosphere -- it's time to call the cosmonauts. Two upcoming Russian space launches are scheduled to ferry a pair of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipad">iPads</a> and a plush <em>Angry Birds</em> toy to the International Space Station. The twin tablets will fly on an unmanned resupply vehicle early next week, and the irritated avian is playing the part of a jocular gravity indicator in a manned mission next month -- part of a russian tradition of hanging a toy by a string to signal when the vessel has escaped the Earth's gravity. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NASA/">NASA</a> told <em>collectSPACE</em> that the iPads are only slated for recreational purposes, but mentioned that various tablets were being evaluated for future use. The plush bird? It's coming home; cosmonaut Shkaplerov's five year old daughter can't be expected to give up her toys forever, can she?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tabletpcs/" rel="tag">Tablet PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/angry-birds-to-ride-russian-rockets-into-space-follow-ipads-bou/">Angry Birds to ride Russian rockets into space, follow iPads bound for bored cosmonauts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 22:02:00 EST. Well we're pretty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Angrybirds">Angry</a> ourselves, being that Nokia nearly foiled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/the-nokia-world-2011-keynote-liveblog/">our liveblog</a> plans and made it all but impossible to transmit photos and video thanks to an absolutely miserable attempt at providing internet access. But <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NokiaWorld2011">Nokia World</a> is not without mobile gaming opportunities, and a few minutes with the Birds seemed to do the trick (shifting our moods, at the very least -- there's still no reliable internet).<br />
<br />
We met up with Mr. <em>Angry Birds</em> himself, Peter Vesterbacka, who took us through a demo of the game on one of Nokia's new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/nokia-asha-200-asha-300-and-asha-303-hands-on-video/">Asha Series 40</a> devices. The game, which has already seen an absolutely massive 400 million downloads, will come preloaded on the Asha 303, giving Vesterbacka and Rovio a chance to bring the game to emerging markets in China, India and Africa, where touchscreen devices are currently priced out of reach. The game seemed to perform just as well as it does on other platforms, so expect the same <em>Angry Birds</em> experience here as well. Jump past the break for a hands-on with Rovio's Mighty Eagle.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/nokia-asha-brings-angry-birds-to-the-developing-world-mighty-ea/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nokia Asha brings Angry Birds to the developing world, Mighty Eagle soars (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/26/nokia-asha-brings-angry-birds-to-the-developing-world-mighty-ea/">Nokia Asha brings Angry Birds to the developing world, Mighty Eagle soars (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 26 Oct 2011 10:22:00 EST. It's taken a long time for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/21/nokia-n9-first-hands-on/">Nokia's MeeGo-packing N9</a> to make its way into our top secret labs (the N9 moniker was first applied to early <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/nokia-e7-review/">E7</a> prototypes), but it's here in our dirty little hands, at last, and it's glorious -- well, as glorious as a stillborn product can be, anyway. The N9 is the latest and greatest in a long line of quirky, interesting, yet ultimately flawed touchscreen experiments from Nokia that includes the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=7710">Hildon-sporting 7710</a>, a series of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Maemo/">Maemo</a>-based "internet tablets" (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=770">770</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=n800">N800</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=n810">N810</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/19/nokia-n900-review/">N900</a>) and most recently, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N950/">N950</a> MeeGo handset for developers. What makes the N9 special is that it represents Nokia's last flagship phone as an independent player. MeeGo is already dead, and future high-end devices from the manufacturer will run Windows Phone and use Microsoft's services. So, is this the company's final bittersweet hurrah? Did <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MeeGo/">MeeGo</a> ever stand a chance against Android, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/12/ios-5-review/">iOS</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/27/windows-phone-7-5-mango-review/">Mango</a>? In its attempt to stay relevant, is Nokia throwing out the baby with the bathwater? Most importantly, how does the N9 fare in today's merciless <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">dual-core world</a>? Find out after the break.<br />

If you've been dreaming of a world where Android apps are free to roam across your Windows desktop, you're in luck, because <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/05/bluestacks-offering-android-virtualization-within-windows-harmo/">BlueStacks</a> has just turned your reverie into reality. Today, the startup unveiled an alpha version of its App Player -- software that allows users to run a host of Android apps on Windows PCs, tablets or desktops, without requiring them to make modifications to their original OS. Available as a free download, this early test version comes pre-loaded with ten apps, and can support an extra 26, on top of that. BlueStacks' free Cloud Connect app, meanwhile, allows you to port third-party apps directly from your handset to your computer, though some games, including Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja, are prohibited. Those, it turns out, will be included under a paid version of the App Player, which BlueStacks hopes to launch at a later date. You can take the free software for a spin at the source link below, or meander past the break for a demo video, along with a pair of press releases.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/11/bluestacks-app-player-lets-you-run-android-apps-on-windows-pcs-o/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BlueStacks App Player lets you run Android apps on Windows PCs or tablets (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/11/bluestacks-app-player-lets-you-run-android-apps-on-windows-pcs-o/">BlueStacks App Player lets you run Android apps on Windows PCs or tablets (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 08:15:00 EST. Okay, we admit it, we want one of these <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AngryBirds/">Angry Birds</a> speaker docks from Gear4 seen on the floor of IFA here in Berlin. They're available in both iPod dock varieties (pigs) and as plug-and-play speakers (angry, angry birds). Both will begin shipping in the next few weeks in Europe and the US. The non-dock version should sell for around &euro;69. They'll likely hit the spot for those casual gamers who aren't getting enough of the irate fowl between their <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/angry-birds-gets-a-web-version-in-google-chrome/">web browser</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/roku-2-hd-xd-and-xs-officially-launch-same-price-smaller-siz/">set-top box</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/rooted-nook-wifi-loaded-with-angry-birds-soars-then-stalls-vid/">e-reader</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/life-size-angry-birds-comes-with-giant-slingshot-more-realistic/">university</a> and local <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/london-philharmonic-orchestra-goes-cover-band-with-tribute-to-vi/">Philharmonic</a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/">Angry Birds Speakers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419312"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1402gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Angry Birds Speakers" title="Angry Birds Speakers" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419313"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1404gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419314"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1405gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419315"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1407gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419316"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1408gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/06/angry-birds-speakers-are-too-adorable-to-slingshot/">Angry Birds speakers are too adorable to slingshot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 22:02:00 EST. If you've ever caught yourself humming the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/life-size-angry-birds-comes-with-giant-slingshot-more-realistic/">Angry Birds</a> theme song, then perhaps you should check out tonight's London Philharmonic Orchestra's video game tribute concert. The group will play more than 20 songs made famous by games like Tetris, Zelda, Call of Duty and of course, Mario Bros., as part of London's annual music festival. When asked to create the ultimate gaming remix, composer and arranger Andrew Skeet vowed to keep it old school, while giving folks the best bits of music. It's not the first time someone's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/video-games-live-special-brings-orchestral-game-music-to-pbs/">paid tribute</a> to these hits, and we're hoping it's not the last. Check out the full setlist and video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/london-philharmonic-orchestra-goes-cover-band-with-tribute-to-vi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>London Philharmonic Orchestra goes cover band with tribute to video game themes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/london-philharmonic-orchestra-goes-cover-band-with-tribute-to-vi/">London Philharmonic Orchestra goes cover band with tribute to video game themes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 17:42:00 EST. Samsung took <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA2011">IFA</a> by <em>storm</em> yesterday with its now-legendary "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/samsung-galaxy-note-hands-on-video/">S Pen</a>" (that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GalaxyNote/">Galaxy Note</a> comes <em>bundled</em>), so it's only fair that LG gets its chance in the spotlight with a pen of its own. The company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/lg-goes-big-with-stylus-equipped-pentouch-plasma-tvs/">Pentouch</a> comes with a plasma TV in tow, and lets you do super-slick stuff to your productivity suite -- you can mark up Word docs, handwrite URLs in the browser, highlight elements in your PowerPoint presentations, or even flick one of those little red balls of fluff in <em><a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AngryBirds/">Angry Birds</a></em>. $2,199 will net you a 3D-enabled 60-inch LG PZ850 with Pentouch TV -- a non-3D model is available for $1,699, and there's a 50-inch version as well, priced at a mere $1,099.<br />
<br />
You'll need to collect quite a few ingredients before you can get cookin' here, including the TV, the pair of included pens, and a computer to pump content to your TV. If you're planning to use the display with kids, a printer might be a good idea as well, so your little ones will have a platform to preserve all those on-screen sketched masterpieces (this thing puts coloring books to shame). Everything seemed to work as described (note: this isn't a touchscreen, so you'll need to use the pen), though the software did hiccup once while attempting to hand-write the Engadget URL. We see this being more of a hit for enterprise use, since there isn't really any need to mark up photos or tap the screen to launch apps in your living room. Still thinking about taking the plunge? Jump past the break for a video walkthrough (yes, and yet another clip of <em>Angry Birds</em>).<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on/">LG PZ850 Pentouch Plasma TV hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on/#4416639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/2011-09-02-dsc08874_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on/#4416640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/2011-09-02-dsc08875_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on/#4416641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/2011-09-02-dsc08877_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on/#4416642"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/2011-09-02-dsc08881_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on/#4416643"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/2011-09-02-dsc08883_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG PZ850 Pentouch Plasma TV hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/lg-pz850-pentouch-plasma-tv-hands-on-video/">LG PZ850 Pentouch Plasma TV hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 09:45:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/27/walgreens-now-selling-100-maylong-m-150-android-tablet/">Low-cost</a> Android, actually looking decent? Seems like it. We've caught wind of a few <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/26/augens-150-android-tablet-hits-kmart-circular-coming-to-store/">hitting the scene</a> at this point, and there's little question that the Andy Pad folks appear to have something better in mind. The company's been slowly releasing info on Twitter about its 7-inch Andy Pad and Pro variant, and has also recently updated its website; the AP Pro's finally been priced for &pound;179 (about $290) and there's now a <em>full</em> shot of the slates along with specs. While we knew the Pro would have a capacitive touchscreen and front / rear cams, those "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/27/low-cost-andy-pad-tablet-spotted-in-the-wild-andy-pad-pro-said/">additional features</a>" have panned out to be an increased 1024 x 600 screen resolution and Bluetooth connectivity (it seems the 16GB model was this version all along). Still aching to see one in action? AP's also posted a YouTube clip of the base model zipping along and effortlessly hurling Angry Birds through its Gingerbread scented air. It'll still be about month until the duo hit the streets, but for now, you'll find the video past the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/andy-pad-pro-gets-detailed-while-andy-pad-makes-film-debut-vide/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Andy Pad Pro gets detailed while Andy Pad makes film debut (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/andy-pad-pro-gets-detailed-while-andy-pad-makes-film-debut-vide/">Andy Pad Pro gets detailed while Andy Pad makes film debut (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 08:16:00 EST. The Roku 2 lineup will put their (much smaller) footprint in the spaces left by their predecessors when they hit shelves later this month without changing the price one bit. Besides being more energy efficient, it brings new channels including <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/01/roku-brings-casual-gaming-to-its-internet-tv-platform-starting/"><i>Angry Birds</i></a>, Epix, MLS and more, while also upgrading the Netflix experience with support for subtitles, surround sound and 1080p video. The pricing tiers of $60 (HD), $80 (XD) and $100 (XS) remain; while stepping up to the XD adds 1080p video output, splurging for the XS adds a game remote (a $29 accessory), included copy of <i>Angry Birds</i> plus Ethernet and USB ports. Nowadays, you can't really claim to have a mobile OS worthy of the title if your users can't run <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/angrybirds"><em>Angry Birds</em></a> on it. Good news from Microsoft, then, as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/27/windows-phone-7-5-mango-in-depth-preview-video/">Windows Phone 7</a> can finally be admitted at the grown-up table now that it has released its port of Rovio's epic bird-launching experience. $2.99 is the Marketplace price for the full version, though there's also the option to try out the first few levels for free. Because, you know, there might still be people out there who haven't yet been exposed to the charms of this perniciously addictive little game.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/angry-birds-lands-on-windows-phone-7-ready-to-explore-the-third/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Angry Birds lands on Windows Phone 7, ready to explore the third ecosystem</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/angry-birds-lands-on-windows-phone-7-ready-to-explore-the-third/">Angry Birds lands on Windows Phone 7, ready to explore the third ecosystem</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Jun 2011 03:52:00 EST. That was fast. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/01/barnes-and-noble-nook-wifi-review/">Nook WiFi</a> <em>just </em>hit the streets and already it's been rooted for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/barnes-and-noble-logs-1-million-nook-app-downloads-in-first-week/">less reading and more gaming</a> -- with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/angry+birds/">Angry Birds</a>, no less. YouTuber JFreke has posted the results of loading a custom ROM on the Android 2.1 e-book reader, and it isn't exactly glamorous (read: playable) as-is. The refresh rate on the device may be quick for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/24/barnes-and-noble-announces-new-nook/">page turns</a>, but the mid-sling freezing doesn't quite make a case for after school utility. Still, it probably won't stop some users from wanting to join in on this Android exploiting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/29/nook-color-finds-its-roots-angry-birds-say-yes/">pastime</a>; if you dare, J says the code will be released shortly, but for now you'll find the footage by breezing past the break.<br />

<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AngryBirds/">Angry Birds</a> was designed to be played on a device that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iphone/">fits in your pocket</a>, so playing the game projected on a wall doesn't exactly feel natural. Throw a life-size slingshot into the mix, though, and things really get zany. The slingshot was on hand at the University of Queensland (Australia) last night, and had apparently been "months in the making." Details are scant, so we're not sure exactly how the slingshot communicates with the game, but however it works, it appears able to do its thing fairly well -- with only a brief delay after release. This slingshot appearance may be a one-time deal, so if you want to try flicking the bird on the big screen, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/angry-birds-gets-a-web-version-in-google-chrome/">Angry Birds for Chrome</a> (and a mouse) may be your best option for now.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/life-size-angry-birds-comes-with-giant-slingshot-more-realistic/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Life-size Angry Birds comes with giant slingshot, more realistic explosive death (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/life-size-angry-birds-comes-with-giant-slingshot-more-realistic/">Life-size Angry Birds comes with giant slingshot, more realistic explosive death (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 02 Jun 2011 06:18:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/roku">Roku's</a> line of boxes have come a long way from being used only to stream Netflix, and now the company has announced a plan to take its talents to casual gaming. Naturally, the first app out of the gate this summer will be the wildly popular and increasingly ubiquitous <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/angrybirds"><i>Angry Birds</i></a>. There's not a lot of details available yet and while we're told the gaming experience will be available on a new player launching this summer, <strike>whether or not the existing Roku hardware will get any gaming action remains to be seen</strike>. Roku CEO Anthony Wood is very excited about the company's gaming prospects saying "Just as we were the first to enable Netflix to stream instantly to the TV, we intend to be the catalyst for transforming the way people play casual games-starting with Angry Birds-on the biggest screen in the home". While we wouldn't bet against the upstart media streamer maker, it may be a bit tougher to compete with Xbox 360, PS3 and whatever <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/25/nintendo-confirms-next-wii-in-2012-will-preview-it-at-e3/">Nintendo has up its sleeve</a> on their native turf.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Thanks to Dan Rayburn, Anthony Wood has confirmed Angry Birds will not run on existing players. In the inaugural post on the Roku Blog, he mentioned "some of the new games will require more horsepower".<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/01/roku-brings-casual-gaming-to-its-internet-tv-platform-starting/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Roku brings casual gaming to its internet TV platform starting with Angry Birds this summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/01/roku-brings-casual-gaming-to-its-internet-tv-platform-starting/">Roku brings casual gaming to its internet TV platform starting with Angry Birds this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 01 Jun 2011 01:27:00 EST.
