Both the 14- and 15-inch models are now known to be packing Intel's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IvyBridge/">Ivy Bridge</a>-era third-generation Core processors, and the "dedicated" video we heard about in January is NVIDIA's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Kepler/">Kepler</a>-based <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/22/kepler-comes-of-age-nvidia-unveils-geforce-600-series-gpus/">GeForce GT 640M</a>, which we saw in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/04/acer-aspire-timeline-ultra-m3-review/">Timeline Ultra M3</a>. Either new PC is still under 20mm (0.8 inches) thick with the option of an SSD, like the M3, but slapping the M5 badge on top means a much narrower display bezel, a backlit keyboard and other more upscale touches that show where your money's going. Picking the 15-inch model adds an optical drive along with a keypad for number-crunching. Mum's the word on exact specs and that all-important pricing, but those questions will be answered by the time the M5 hits British shops in mid-June. Now all that's left is to know when the new Aspire reaches the other side of the Atlantic.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/15/acer-ships-aspire-m5-ultrabook-to-uk/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer ships Aspire M5 Ultrabook to UK in June, Ivy Bridge and Kepler chips in tow</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/15/acer-ships-aspire-m5-ultrabook-to-uk/">Acer ships Aspire M5 Ultrabook to UK in June, Ivy Bridge and Kepler chips in tow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 May 2012 10:12:00 EST. NVIDIA mentions it will not only be the first with a discrete GPU -- beating Lenovo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/08/lenovos-thinkpad-t430u-ultrabook-hands-on/">T430u</a> to the punch -- but that the included GeForce GT640M is based on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/nvidia-reveals-fermis-successor-kepler-at-28nm-in-2011-maxwel/">long-awaited</a> 28nm <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/kepler">Kepler</a> architecture. That should give it enough power to run the latest games while still remaining true to the ultrabook tag with a 20mm thick frame and (promised) 8 hours of battery life thanks to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/optimus,nvidia">Optimus</a> technology. The 15-inch Aspire Timeline M3 Ultra also breaks the mold by squeezing in a DVD drive for games you can't get from Steam, along with options for either a hybrid hard drive / SSD or SSD-only storage setup. Neither company has included a pricetag in their joyful announcements, but these no-compromise packages are expected to begin shipping later this month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/13/acer-aspire-ultra-timeline-m3-brings-an-nvidia-kepler-gpu-to-the/">Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 brings an NVIDIA Kepler GPU to the ultrabook party</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 13 Mar 2012 23:40:00 EST. Not surprisingly, Acer's jumping on the quickly-expanding <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultrabook/">Ultrabook</a> bandwagon here at CES 2012, with the Aspire S5 being the first out of the chute. It's a 13.3-incher that'll check it at under three pounds, offering up Instant On functionality, a magnesium-aluminum alloy cover (in Onyx Black), HDMI / USB 3.0 / Thunderbolt (!) ports and an SSD for good measure. We're told that it'll start shipping in Q2 of this year, but other details remain under wraps.<br />

Until now, Windows fans have had precious few alternatives to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/macbook-air-review-mid-2011/">MacBook Air.</a> Sure, there's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/samsung-series-9-900x-laptop-review/">Samsung's Series 9</a>, but just like the original Air, it's far from cheap. Since then, of course, Apple has cut the Air's starting price to $999, while the Windows options -- now marketed as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultrabooks/">Ultrabooks</a> -- are about to mushroom in number. And so far, they're all starting in the (more reasonable) neighborhood of a thousand bucks, making these pinch-thin, long-lasting laptops accessible to the budget-conscious masses.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-hits-the-us-and-canada-this-week-start/">Acer's Aspire S3</a> was the first to hit the market here in the States, and with an entry price of $899, it's currently the least expensive. That it's skinny (just 13mm thick, to be exact), should be a given, but it also claims to wake from sleep in two seconds flat and reconnect to known networks in two and a half. But, as the least pricey Ultrabook on the shelf, it also forgoes some specs you might have liked to see -- namely, all-flash storage and USB 3.0. But does that matter much when you're potentially saving hundreds of dollars? Let's find out.<br />

Dark stains aside, it looks like the S3's WiFi and Bluetooth credentials are all in order so we'll hopefully see its skinny 17mm (0.67-inch) form stateside before too long. The regulatory teardown pics don't tell us a great deal, but then we already know plenty from our earlier <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-hands-on/">hands-on</a>: a choice of Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) display and a competitive &euro;799 European price tag, not to mention some heavy expectations from the Ultrabook promoters at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/11/intel-ultrabooks-get-300-million-investment-fund-prep-for-low/">Intel</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/21/acer-aspire-s3-ultrabook-opened-up-for-the-fcc-should-have-show/">Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook opened up for the FCC, should have showered first</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 21 Sep 2011 09:16:00 EST. If you haven't heard, Acer's gone and (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/acers-ultrabook-s3-up-for-pre-order-on-italian-site-is-this-th/">officially</a>) jumped on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultrabook/">Ultrabook</a> bandwagon, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/acer-aspire-ultrabook-s3-officially-announced-starts-at-799-eur/">announcing</a> the 13mm-thin Aspire S3. We're here live at IFA in Berlin and just got some much-anticipated hands-on time. At the press conference that just wrapped, we were treated to a raft of promises -- seven-hour battery life, 1.5 seconds to resume from sleep, two to connect to a wireless network and "no compromise" performance courtesy of ultra low voltage Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. So did our first impression come anywhere near matching the hype? Read on to find out.<br />

We don't mind eyeballing a few impossibly clean <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/">renders</a> when we get wind of a new toy, but there's nothing like the real McCoy. Today's bones slipped out of a (now pulled) <em>HDblog</em> hands-on of the Acer Aspire 3951 Ultrabook, possibly leaked ahead of an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA2011/">IFA 2011</a> embargo. The genuine article looks nearly identical to its rendered counterpart, albeit a bit thicker and more plasticky. The unveiled 13.3-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MacBookAir/">MacBook Air</a> competitor reportedly sports a second generation Intel Core processor, boots from sleep in under two seconds, and is only 13mm thick. The price? While there is no official word on this <em>exact</em> model, Acer head-honcho JT Wang mentioned last week that the outfit was prepping to launch a new Ultrabook in September for about $800. Lines up nicely with the Acer 3951's rumored $770-960 price range, doesn't it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/28/acer-aspire-3951-photos-leaked-new-ultrabooks-to-launch-in-sept/">Acer Aspire 3951 photos leaked, new Ultrabooks to launch in September</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 19:13:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer/">Acer</a> may be dropping down to the lightweight laptop division, now that images of its so-called Aspire 3951 have leaked out of Vietnam. An ostensible rival to the recently refreshed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/macbook-air-review-mid-2011/">MacBook Air</a>, the 13.3-inch 3951 reportedly boasts a similarly slim design, measuring 13mm thick and weighing less than 1.4 kilograms (about three pounds). According to <em>Sohoa</em>, the aluminum-cased device is powered by a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/intels-2nd-generation-core-processor-family-announced-includes/">second generation</a> Intel Core processor, features an optional 160GB SSD, and offers more than six hours of battery life, along with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/07/bluetooth-4-0-specification-gets-official-devices-expected-by-q/">Bluetooth 4.0</a> support. Much like the Air, this Aspire can purportedly boot up pretty fast, as well, rousing from sleep mode in just 1.7 seconds. It's rumored that Acer will release this new line in October within the curiously affordable price range between $770 and $960, but we'll have to wait and see whether that actually comes to fruition. In the meantime, you can check out an extra image of the Aspire 3951 below, or hit the source link for the full collection.</div>

<strong>Update: </strong>Oddly enough, it appears that we've caught a glimpse of this exact same laptop before, except it was portrayed by <a href="http://micgadget.com/13856/is-this-the-new-macbook-air/">M.I.C. Perhaps the folks received some bad intel, be it intentional or not.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer's Aspire 3951 leaks with MacBook Air-like specs, available in October?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/acers-aspire-3951-leaks-with-macbook-air-like-specs-available/">Acer's Aspire 3951 leaks with MacBook Air-like specs, available in October?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 07:29:00 EST. Intent on buying a new Acer laptop but not satisfied with the just-announced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/17/acer-travelmate-8481-lands-late-august-700-price-tag-in-tow/">TravelMate 8481</a> thin-and-light? Then perhaps you'll find the company's new and slightly larger Aspire 5755 model more to your taste. This one packs a 15.6-inch display with a rather lowly 1366 x 768 resolution, but it at least boasts some built-in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/widi">WiDi</a> so you can easily view movies (or anything else) on a larger display without the need for any pesky cables. Otherwise, you'll get your choice of Intel Core processors (up to a Core i7-2820QM), up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum 1TB of storage, NVIDIA's Optimus-enabled GeForce GT 540M graphics, and either a Blu-ray or basic DVD drive -- all for a starting price of &pound;899 (or roughly $1,440). Still no word on a North American release, but this one's available in the UK right now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/18/acer-debuts-widi-equipped-aspire-5755-laptop/">Acer debuts WiDi-equipped Aspire 5755 laptop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 18 Jul 2011 19:51:00 EST. If you've been waiting for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sandy+bridge">Sandy Bridge</a> to land on Acer's Timeline X laptops, then today's your day. Well, it depends, as these new machines are only available in Taiwan for the time being. Just a few hours ago, the lucky folks over at <em>Engadget Chinese</em> managed to get up close and personal with these bad boys: we have a couple of 13.3-inch 3830TGs (pictured after the break), a 14-inch 4830TG, and a 15.6-inch 5830TG (pictured above). With the exception of Core i3-2310M on one of the 3830TGs, these laptops all come with Core i5-2410M, NVIDIA GT540M (with 2GB DDR3 RAM), 640GB hard drive, 2GB DDR3 RAM, and USB 3.0 ports. As for multimedia, sitting below the 1,366 x 768 LED-backlit LCDs are Dolby Home Theater speakers by Kenwood, and additionally, the two larger models also pack a DVD Super Multi DL drive.<br />
<br />
Compared to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/27/acer-timelinex-updated-with-new-processor-options/">previous-gen</a> Timeline X range, the most notable difference here is the new chiclet keyboard brought over from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer%2Cethos">Ethos</a> range, which should trap a lot less dirt thanks to the tighter gaps. You'll see that the new Timeline X ID has gone for a more tranquil look -- the touchpad no longer has a silver trim around it, and likewise, the edges around the body are no longer tapered. Also gone is the removable battery underneath, but given the impressive portability (4.12 pounds, 4.67 pounds, and 5.49 pounds, respectively), we won't miss this feature too much. On the contrary, there's now an extra mouse button, presumably for offering better left and right-clicking. <div style="text-align: left;">We don't have full details yet, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a> has just launched three new Aspire laptops, all featuring <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/amd+fusion">AMD's Fusion</a> APU. Up first, the 10.1-inch Aspire One 522 -- which we've seen previously -- boasts the AMD C-50 APU, AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics, and it supports 1080p video with HDMI output. The 10.1-inch panel has WXGA resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and other features include Wi-Fi and LAN, plus optional Bluetooth or 3G. The Aspire One 522 will come in green or black. No word on pricing or availability yet. The other two offerings Acer has announced are the Aspire 15.6-inch 5253 and the 14-inch 4253. These bad boys feature AMD's E-Series accelerated processing unit, as well as its Vision engine. The Aspire 5253 can pack up to 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM, and both laptops feature 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi. There's no pricing or availability information for these, yet either, but we'll let you know as soon as we do.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/acer-outs-three-amd-fusion-powered-laptops/">Acer outs three AMD Fusion powered laptops</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 05 Jan 2011 12:20:00 EST. AMD Fusion's taken its sweet, sweet time getting here, but we're hearing you'll be able to get your hands on some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/16/amds-bobcat-apu-benchmarked-the-age-of-the-atom-is-at-an-end/">Atom-beating netbook chips</a> soon -- for instance, in this Acer Aspire One 522, which will reportedly drive its oh-so-glossy 10.1-inch, 720p screen with a 1GHz AMD C-50 Ontario APU. In case you need a brief refresher, Ontario's the chip <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/08/amd-names-second-bobcat-apu-zacate-shows-off-ontario-die-size/">rated at just nine watts</a>, meaning we should expect some fairly decent battery life here, though possibly not the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/14/amd-throws-down-gauntlet-pits-zacate-netbook-chip-against-intel/">heroic performance</a> of its 1.6GHz Zacate cousin. Aside from those specs, the Acer's mostly your standard netbook -- three USB ports, VGA-out, a webcam and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi -- though it does have HDMI out, something you won't find on the otherwise similar <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/04/acer-aspire-one-d255-with-dual-core-atom-hits-at-330/">Aspire One D255</a>. It's hard to say what it'll cost stateside, but a Thai e-tailer's ringing up a version right now with 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive for 12,829 baht (about $425). Wonder if it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/08/acer-planning-to-dual-boot-all-of-its-dual-core-netbooks-were/">runs Android</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/23/acer-aspire-one-522-falls-from-the-clouds-sporting-dual-core-1g/">Acer Aspire One 522 falls from the clouds, sporting dual-core 1GHz Ontario APU?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 23 Dec 2010 18:46:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/21/acer-aspire-5742g-laptop-with-nvidia-geforce-gt-540m-graphics-re/"><img alt="Acer Aspire 5742G laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics reviewed, proven wunderbar" border="1" hspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/12/acer-2010-12-21-600.jpg" vspace="4" /></a></div>
When <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/05/nvidia-geforce-gt-540m-refreshes-mobile-graphics-midrange-start/">first announced</a>, we had fears that the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nvidia">NVIDIA</a> GeForce GT 500M-series graphics would be little more than a tweak of a clock speed here and a new sticker there, as the specs of the 540M (96 CUDA cores, 128-bit memory interface) match the 435M series bit-for-bit. But, a <em>Notebook Journal</em> review of the first laptop to bear NVIDIA's latest, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer">Acer</a> Aspire 5742G, finds that the performance boost is tangible. "Much stronger," even, scoring 8315 points in 3DMark 06 -- a good bit higher than the 435M scores we've seen. The laptop otherwise is said to be quite a powerhouse, with a massive 8GB of DDR3 memory onboard, but it's a gentle machine too, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nvidia,optimus">Optimus</a> letting the thing run cool and long (up to five hours on a charge) when you're not getting your frag on. Indeed it's deemed the most powerful notebook you can buy for &euro;700, and while that translates to roughly $920, we'll have to see what Acer decides to charge when it comes Stateside.<br />

Uh oh, just as we thought NVIDIA had moved beyond its penchant for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/13/nvidia-outs-300m-mobile-graphics-series-causes-little-excitemen/">rebadging hardware</a>, here comes the vanguard of its 500M mobile GPU series -- which happens to be specced nearly identically to what's already on offer in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/10/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops-shows-off-starcraf/">400M family</a>. The GT 540M chip maintains the same 96 CUDA cores and 128-bit memory interface as the GT 435M, but earns its new livery by cranking up graphics and processor clock speeds to 672MHz and 1344MHz, respectively, while also taking the onboard memory to a max speed of 900MHz. Power requirements have been kept unchanged, mind you, and NVIDIA itself admits it's exploiting the maturation of the production process to just throw out some speedier parts. China gets the GT 540M immediately, courtesy of Acer, while the rest of the world should be able to buy in at some point next month. Jump past the break for the full press release.<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> We've managed to track down the particular Acer model that'll mark the GT 540M's debut, it's called the Aspire 4741G. The option we saw came equipped with a 2.66GHz Intel Core i5-480M processor, 4GB of RAM, a 640GB HDD, a Blu-ray disc drive, and a 14-inch screen up top. There's not much, aside from the new top cover design, to really distinguish this from the rest of Acer's Aspire line, with the keyboard in particular being the very same one that we've witnessed on Timeline series machines for over a year now -- comfortable, well spaced, but exhibiting quite a bit of flex around the Enter key. See more of it in the gallery below.<br />

Cherry Red and Midnight Black too harsh for your innocent eyes? How's about a gaggle of pastel options to take the edge off? Acer has just issued a new line of netbooks catering to those still stuck in the 70s, with the flower-powered <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Aspire/">Aspire</a> One Happy range offering the most delightful lids of any netbook, ever. This 10.1-inch machine packs a WSVGA panel, six-cell battery (up to eight hours of battery life), Atom N450 CPU, GMA 3150 GPU, 250GB hard drive, WiFi, 2GB of memory and inbuilt Bluetooth. It also supports <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dual+boot/">dual booting</a> (Windows 7 and Android 2.1), but the highlight of the show is the abundance of color options: Candy Pink, Lavender Purple, Lime Green and Hawaii Blue. All four hues are available now across the pond for &pound;249.99 ($397), but mum's the word on a stateside release. But don't worry... be happy.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/12/acer-goes-pastel-with-10-1-inch-aspire-one-happy-dual-booting-ne/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer goes pastel with 10.1-inch Aspire One Happy dual-booting netbook</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/12/acer-goes-pastel-with-10-1-inch-aspire-one-happy-dual-booting-ne/">Acer goes pastel with 10.1-inch Aspire One Happy dual-booting netbook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 12 Oct 2010 13:14:00 EST. Can you smell it in the air? Autumn is most assuredly here. Sure, you can deduce as much from equinoxes or changing leaves, but if you ask us, it's almost just as precise to go by a new, pre-holiday product cycle. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a>'s taken the cue with two new desktop SKUs -- one each in the nettop and all-in-one categories. First with the latter: the 21.5-inch AZ3100 all-in-one (pictured). A tier lower than the AZ5700, this one lacks the multitouch and TV tuner, and instead utilizes a 2GHz AMD Athlon II 170u processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9200 graphics, 3GB RAM, and 500GB HDD. Add in a DVD drive, webcam, HDMI, six USB 2.0 ports, Windows 7 Home Premium, and a side chassis for "cable management." It does best its older brother in the price category, though, at just $599 -- about five Benjamins lower. <br />
<br />
As for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AspireRevo/">Aspire Revo</a> 3700, it was actually announced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/08/acer-introduces-atom-d525-equipped-aspire-revo-3700-your-den-sw/">earlier this month</a>, but now we've got the skinny on this book-sized nettop's price and availability. That'd be $349 for the tag, and a street date of approximately... now, according to the press release. Speaking of which, all pertinent paperwork can be found after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-z3100-aio-and-aspirerevo-ar3700-nettop-press-photos/">Acer Aspire Z3100 AIO and AspireRevo AR3700 nettop press photos</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-z3100-aio-and-aspirerevo-ar3700-nettop-press-photos/#3400060"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/ar3700rt-media-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-z3100-aio-and-aspirerevo-ar3700-nettop-press-photos/#3400061"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/az3100so-media-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/28/acer-unveils-amd-infused-aspire-z3100-aio-revo-3700-nettop-now/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer unveils AMD-infused Aspire AZ3100 AIO, Revo 3700 nettop now available for $349</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/28/acer-unveils-amd-infused-aspire-z3100-aio-revo-3700-nettop-now/">Acer unveils AMD-infused Aspire AZ3100 AIO, Revo 3700 nettop now available for $349</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 28 Sep 2010 00:01:00 EST. You might have hoped that NVIDIA's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/nvidia-gtx-470m-highlights-rollout-of-400m-mobile-gpu-series/">introduction of the 400M series</a> of mobile GPUs would bring about a slew of hot new laptops to drop into our gaming boudoirs, but we are in fact left facing more of the same. Externally, anyhow. The chipmaker rolled out the green carpet for a set of upcoming machines in London today, but they were refreshes, rather than overhauls, of current hardware. The big news is to be found within, as the new GTX 460M has made a home inside the updated ASUS <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350270">G53</a>, Toshiba <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350186">Qosmio X505</a>, and MSI <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350231">GT663</a>. The common thread among these three is that they're all big and hefty, and all emit a subtle <em>vroom</em> sound every time you touch them. What we learned from NVIDIA today is that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/gtx480m">GTX 480M</a> will remain an exotic (you might even call it <em>quixotic</em>) GPU reserved for large-screen gaming stations, the GTX 470M will similarly be an enthusiast part, and the GTX 460M will be the company's big play for the mainstream performance market. It also became clear that even the third GPU in the company's mobile hierarchy will need quite a bulky cooling setup (and a proportionately huge charger) to do its job, but NVIDIA's promises of much-improved performance might just make it worthwhile. <br />
<br />
As to the more sane among us, there was a selection of pleasingly thinner machines, like the ASUS <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350165">N53</a> and Acer <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350210">Aspire 5745</a>, which make do with the lower-specced GT 420M and GT 425M graphics chips. Those are expected to be NVIDIA's biggest sellers, and the video demo after the break of the 425M churning through <em><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/01/starcraft-ii-easter-eggs-include-ipistol-bsod-and-misplaced-ch/">StarCraft II</a></em> is certainly appealing. We should note, however, that the latest (though definitely not greatest) <em>Prince of Persia</em> game was also on tap on one of these machines and its frame rate gave us a delightful old-timey feeling any time we entered combat with its emulation of stop-motion animation. So, as ever, it's looking like great graphics will require great rigs, but we can probably expect a decent -- not game-changing (get it?) -- leap in performance among the lighter options as well.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/">NVIDIA trots out GeForce 400M series laptops</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/nv10x091080001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350200"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/nv10x091080051_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350247"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/nv10x0910800113_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350227"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/nv10x091080084_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops/#3350272"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/nv10x0910800139_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/10/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops-shows-off-starcraf/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NVIDIA trots out GeForce 400M series laptops, shows off StarCraft II gameplay (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/10/nvidia-trots-out-geforce-400m-series-laptops-shows-off-starcraf/">NVIDIA trots out GeForce 400M series laptops, shows off StarCraft II gameplay (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 10 Sep 2010 16:14:00 EST. Ah, hello again! It seems like just yesterday that we were talking up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a>'s latest Aspire Revo -- a '<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/02/acers-ion-powered-aspire-revo-3600-packs-dual-core-atom-330/">3600</a>' model equipped with a dual-core Atom 330 and NVIDIA's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ion/">Ion</a> graphics system. Nearly a year to the day, we're now faced with the company's latest and greatest subcompact, the Aspire Revo 3700. As far as evolutionary advancements go, this one's fairly predictable -- within the one-liter box is a 1.8GHz Atom D525 dual-core processor, NVIDIA's <em>next</em>-generation Ion platform, support for 1080p video playback, a 500GB hard drive, four USB 2.0 ports, 4GB of DDR3 memory, VGA / HDMI outputs, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, gigabit Ethernet and a mini PCIe slot. It's expected to ship later this year with a $580 price tag, but it's still a TV tuner shy of being exactly what our living room asked for.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/08/acer-introduces-atom-d525-equipped-aspire-revo-3700-your-den-sw/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer introduces Atom D525-equipped Aspire Revo 3700, your den swoons</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/08/acer-introduces-atom-d525-equipped-aspire-revo-3700-your-den-sw/">Acer introduces Atom D525-equipped Aspire Revo 3700, your den swoons</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 08 Sep 2010 11:21:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Sure, you can get an eye-catching <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/all-in-one">all-in-one desktop</a> or tower, or an especially <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sff">small form factor PC</a> (or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macmini">Mac</a>), but we're pretty sure there's plenty of folks just looking for a simple black box. Of course, there's not exactly any shortage of those, but Acer has now added a few more options with its new Aspire X3 and M3 series desktops, which it says are designed to be "efficient in form and function." That means each are small, but not too small, and pack the mid-range specs you'd expect, including your choice of AMD or Intel processors (Athlon II, Phenom II, Core i3 or Pentium E6600), ATI HD 5450, NVIDIA GeForce 9200 or integrated Intel graphics, up to 1TB of storage on the X3 or 640GB on the M3 and, last but not least, an illuminated blue power button that ensures the desktop "can be found even in a dark cabinet." Head on past the break for the complete press release, and look for the systems to be available at all the usual retailers immediately with a starting price of $449.99.</div>

</span></span>Hoping to get your hot little hands on those brushed metal keys and gorgeous LED touchpad? You're in luck, as the 18.4-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/04/acer-aspire-8943g-and-5943g-aka-acer-ethos-preview/">Acer Aspire 8943G</a> (aka <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/acer-launches-aspire-ethos-line-with-swanky-5943g-and-8943g-mode/">Ethos</a>) has finally arrived stateside. $1,549 buys you a 1.6GHz Core i7-720QM and 4GB of RAM, plus a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 and Blu-ray drive to power that 1080p LED-backlit screen. <br />
<br />
If you'd rather not lug around a 10.1 pound desktop replacement, though, or if the 8943G's a little too rich for your blood, Acer's got some other machines that might better match your style. The Acer Aspire AS7745 and AS5745 -- incremental updates to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/acer-rolls-out-new-budget-focused-core-i3-and-core-i5-aspire-lap/">these puppies</a> -- bring home Core i5 and Core i7 processors, with the $1,399 17.3-inch AS7745G boasting Radeon HD 5650 graphics and Blu-ray while the $899 AS5745PG comes with a 15.6-inch multitouch screen. There's even a budget lineup starting at $429 next month if you're looking for a netbook alternative. No matter which you choose, you'll find details in the press releases after the break... but since you know you really want that 8943G (see the gallery below) you might as well hit Amazon at our more coverage link. Sure, Acer may already have the Ion 2-powered <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-one-532g-with-ion-2-priced-at-an-aggressive-379-euro/">Aspire One 532g</a> in its arsenal, but who's going to complain about two more HD-capable, 10-inch netbooks? Showing some serious love to AMD, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/19/acer-set-to-launch-amd-based-aspire-one-521-netbook/">Acer Aspire One 521</a> and Gateway LT22 both pack new 1.2GHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/12/amd-promises-better-battery-life-and-thermals-with-new-neo-cpus/">AMD V105 processors</a> along with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 graphics. The latter is what had us most impressed when we caught some time with the duo at the Netbook Summit -- the 521 and LT22 handled 1080p WMV video and light gaming without any stuttering. We'll hold our real performance conclusions until we can test the battery life on these bad boys, but other than that they look like decent netbook contenders with the standard 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drives. And unlike the typical Atom netbook, they have HDMI ports. We can't say we're the biggest fans of the 521's in-your-face Aspire One branding on its glossy cover, but the LT2203 delights with its textured matte lid. No word from Acer on the availability and pricing of these here in the US, but hit the gallery below for some imagery, or the source link even <em>further</em> below for a video of these two in action. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-521-gateway-lt22-and-lt2203/">Acer Aspire One 521, Gateway LT22 and LT2203</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-521-gateway-lt22-and-lt2203/#3015896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/aceramdnetbooks01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-521-gateway-lt22-and-lt2203/#3015897"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/aceramdnetbooks02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-521-gateway-lt22-and-lt2203/#3015898"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/aceramdnetbooks03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-521-gateway-lt22-and-lt2203/#3015899"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/aceramdnetbooks04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-521-gateway-lt22-and-lt2203/#3015900"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/aceramdnetbooks05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/26/amd-netbooks-acer-aspire-one-521-and-gateway-lt22-hands-on/">AMD netbooks: Acer Aspire One 521 and Gateway LT22 hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 26 May 2010 17:43:00 EST. If you've suddenly found yourself torn between a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tablet/">tablet</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/netbook/">netbook</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a> wants you to know you're not alone. It also wants you to know there are options, one of which would benefit said company's bottom line should you choose to accept. The new Aspire Timeline 1825PT is an 11.6-inch netvertible at heart, boasting a swivel-screen multitouch panel (1,366 x 768 resolution), up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, HDMI / VGA outputs, a 250GB or 320GB hard drive, integrated media card slot, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, a VGA webcam, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, gigabit Ethernet and a 6-cell battery that can reportedly last up to eight solid hours under ideal conditions (read: no chance). There's even a multitouch trackpad and gobs of bloatware to really cap things off, with color options including diamond black, sapphire blue and ruby red -- all of which sound seductively awesome. A 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium gets you going, but it'll take at least &pound;599.99 ($886) to get one headed your way.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/acer-launches-11-6-inch-aspire-timeline-1825pt-netvertible/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer launches 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline 1825PT netvertible</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/acer-launches-11-6-inch-aspire-timeline-1825pt-netvertible/">Acer launches 11.6-inch Aspire Timeline 1825PT netvertible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 20 May 2010 01:59:00 EST. Ah, <i>now</i> we get it. Clearly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AMD/">AMD</a> has a few mobile chips in the backroom that it has yet to inform us about, and unfortunately for the fine folks in Sunnyvale, it seems as if their partner firms aren't being quite so hush-hush. Just hours after discovering a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/dell-inspiron-m501r-seen-packing-quad-core-amd-phenom-ii-x4-cpu/">quad-core Phenom II X4</a> within Dell's new Inspiron M501R, along comes a spate of Acer Aspire machines with -- you guessed it -- Phenom II X4 and X3 chips within. The 15.6-inch 5551G / 5553G and 17.3-inch 7551G are all listed now at Amazon's German portal, with the X3 N830 clocked at 2.1GHz and the X4 N930 chip humming along at an even 2GHz. The cheapest of the bunch is listed at right around &euro;668 ($870), though you'll have to dig into that source link for specifics. Fret not -- we get the impression that each of these will be headed stateside just as soon as AMD sees fit to officially unveil its not-so-secret stash of new silicon. <br />

Oh, what a gloomy morning it's been in London, but that didn't stop <em>Electricpig</em> from attending Acer's UK launch event for its voguish <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/acer-launches-aspire-ethos-line-with-swanky-5943g-and-8943g-mode/">Aspire Ethos</a> and power-sipping <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/17/acer-unveils-its-thin-and-light-aspire-timelinex-1830t/">TimelineX</a> laptops. The Ethos 8943G, pictured above, is described as a more affordable alternative (at "half the price") to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nx90">ASUS NX90</a>, packing a touchscreen-like trackpad for media control, a sturdy chiclet keyboard and an 18.4-inch full HD screen with decent viewing angle. As for the TimelineX trio, <em>Electricpig</em> praises the brushed aluminum lids and the grip on the closed 13.3-inch model, but the meat lies in the 12-hour battery life -- this is the same as the previous line-up, even though WiFi usage is included and the CPUs are now more powerful. If you fancy something more portable, word has it that the 11.6-inch TimelineX <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/17/acer-unveils-its-thin-and-light-aspire-timelinex-1830t/">1830T</a> -- a no-show today -- will be out towards the end of June, otherwise the TimelineX trio can be yours from &pound;599.99 ($909) in May, and the Ethos for &pound;1,099.99 ($1,666) in June. Until then, gorge yourselves on the photos at the source links.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/31/acer-aspire-ethos-8943g-and-timelinex-3820t-4820t-5820t-get-ha/">Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G and TimelineX 3820T, 4820T, 5820T get hands-on treatment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 31 Mar 2010 21:15:00 EST. Acer's aspirational laptops have a new Ethos to them now, and it clearly has something to do with entertainment. The newly revealed 18.4-inch 8943G sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a <em>true</em> 5.1 surround sound setup, meaning that somewhere within its shell reside five miniature speakers and a sub. Processor options range all the way up to the quad-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/21/intel-cores-1-73ghz-i7-820-qm-mobile-cpu-maneuvers-onto-test-be/">Core i7-820QM</a>, which offers 8MB of built-in cache and a 1.73GHz clock speed that cranks all the way to 3.06GHz when required. ATI Mobility Radeon <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/30/ati-radeon-hd-5850-provides-scorching-performance-for-a-relative/">HD 5850</a> graphics and up to 1.28TB of storage (2x 640GB) complete the overkill recipe. The 5943G is basically a scaled down version, offering as it does 1366 x 768 resolution across a 15.6-inch display, a 2.1 internal speaker arrangement, and a merely adequate 640GB storage maximum. The rest of the specs are shared, including a 4,800mAh battery, which should perish quicker than you can say "desktop replacement." We've heard <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/12/acer-developing-ace-in-the-hole-ultrathin-putting-macbook-air/">plenty</a> of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/26/acer-launching-thin-calpella-based-notebooks-this-summer/">chatter</a> about something thin and sexy being added to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer">Acer</a>'s laptop lineup, and finally the company has unveiled the Aspire TimelineX 1830T. It's under an inch thick and weighs 3lbs, with an 11.6-inch screen offering 1366 x 768 pixels and driven by integrated graphics. Acer simply lists an Intel Core 2 Solo processor, but others are reporting that it will feature a Core i5 520UM processor which can range from 1 to 1.8GHz to offer decent performance along with great battery life -- eight hours worth according to Acer, but we'll believe that when we see it. Wireless is over 801.11a/b/g/n WiFi, there's a VGA webcam in the bezel, three USB ports, and even HDMI output, making it a relatively port-heavy ultralight. What Acer is not saying is how much it will cost or when we'll be able to get our meaty paws on the thing, but we hope to learn those details soon.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Acer sneaked in a bunch of other TimelineX models as well: the 13.3-inch <a href="http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do;jsessionid=6D434377632E3252269BE93E43309E2A.public_a_us004?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&amp;rcond5e.c2att92=145&amp;inu49e.current.c2att92=145&amp;link=ln314e&amp;CountryISOCtxParam=US&amp;kcond47e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond159e.att21k=1&amp;kcond48e.c2att101=77439&amp;rcond190e.att21k=1&amp;acond23=EU&amp;rcond4e.att21k=1&amp;sp=page17e&amp;rcond157e.c2att92=145&amp;var9e=793&amp;ctx1g.c2att92=145&amp;rcond42e.att21k=1&amp;kcond50e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond45e.att21k=1&amp;rcond158e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx2.c2att1=0&amp;inu53e.current.c2att92=145&amp;rcond38e.c2att1=0&amp;var13e=EU&amp;rcond44e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond186e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond3e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond28e.attN2B2F2EEF=3206&amp;rcond189e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx1.att21k=1&amp;CRC=1927526107#wrAjaxHistory=0">3820T</a>, 14-inch <a href="http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do;jsessionid=6D434377632E3252269BE93E43309E2A.public_a_us004?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&amp;rcond5e.c2att92=145&amp;inu49e.current.c2att92=145&amp;link=ln314e&amp;CountryISOCtxParam=US&amp;kcond47e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond159e.att21k=1&amp;kcond48e.c2att101=77439&amp;rcond190e.att21k=1&amp;acond23=EU&amp;rcond4e.att21k=1&amp;sp=page17e&amp;rcond157e.c2att92=145&amp;var9e=793&amp;ctx1g.c2att92=145&amp;rcond42e.att21k=1&amp;kcond50e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond45e.att21k=1&amp;rcond158e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx2.c2att1=0&amp;inu53e.current.c2att92=145&amp;rcond38e.c2att1=0&amp;var13e=EU&amp;rcond44e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond186e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond3e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond28e.attN2B2F2EEF=3206&amp;rcond189e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx1.att21k=1&amp;CRC=1927526107#wrAjaxHistory=2">4820T</a>, and 15.6-inch <a href="http://us.acer.com/acer/product.do;jsessionid=6D434377632E3252269BE93E43309E2A.public_a_us004?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&amp;rcond5e.c2att92=145&amp;inu49e.current.c2att92=145&amp;link=ln314e&amp;CountryISOCtxParam=US&amp;kcond47e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond159e.att21k=1&amp;kcond48e.c2att101=77439&amp;rcond190e.att21k=1&amp;acond23=EU&amp;rcond4e.att21k=1&amp;sp=page17e&amp;rcond157e.c2att92=145&amp;var9e=793&amp;ctx1g.c2att92=145&amp;rcond42e.att21k=1&amp;kcond50e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond45e.att21k=1&amp;rcond158e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx2.c2att1=0&amp;inu53e.current.c2att92=145&amp;rcond38e.c2att1=0&amp;var13e=EU&amp;rcond44e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond186e.c2att92=145&amp;rcond3e.c2att1=0&amp;rcond28e.attN2B2F2EEF=3206&amp;rcond189e.c2att1=0&amp;ctx1.att21k=1&amp;CRC=1927526107#wrAjaxHistory=0">5820T</a>, each with your choice of Core i3, i5, or i7 processors, all under an inch thick, and again offering eight hours of battery life for frugal computers. Acer has rolled into CeBIT with a few <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on-priced-for-599-euros/">all-new systems</a>, but it's also taken the opportunity to introduce some updates to its existing models, including six new revisions to its Aspire and TravelMate lines. Leading things off are the high(ish)-end Aspire 8942 and Aspire 5942, which pack 18.4 and 15.6-inch displays, your choice of the latest 2010 Core processors, an integrated TV tuner, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 1.2TB of storage (courtesy of to 640GB drives), and some niceties like a multitouch trackpad, and a CineSurround sound system with a "Tuba CineBass" booster. It's joined by the <span class="blueLinks">TravelMate 8372 Timeline series, which is itself available in 13.3-, 14-, and 15.6-inch varieties with Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, and the 15.6-inch </span><span class="blueLinks">Acer TravelMate 6594, which packs a Core i5 or i7 processor and ATI Radeon HD 5670 graphics. Rounding out the standard laptops are the 17.3-inch Acer TravelMate 7740 and 15.6-inch 5740, which come equipped with Core i3 or i5 processors, up to 8GB of RAM, and either integrated or ATI Radeon HD5470 graphics. <br />
<br />
As if that wasn't enough, Acer has also introduced the new 11.6-inch Aspire One 752 netbook, which actually packs a Celeron ULV processor instead of the usual Atom, and the Aspire Predator G7750 gaming PC, which finishes things off in a suitably over-the-top fashion with a Core i7 Extreme Edition processor, liquid cooling, dual LAN connectivity, swappable hard drive bays, and support for Acer's GD245HQ 3D monitor. Hit up the gallery below for a closer look at some of the offerings. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-travelmate-timeline-laptops-hands-on/">Acer TravelMate Timeline laptops hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-travelmate-timeline-laptops-hands-on/#2773228"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-travelmate-timeline-laptops-hands-on/#2773229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-travelmate-timeline-laptops-hands-on/#2773230"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-travelmate-timeline-laptops-hands-on/#2773231"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-travelmate-timeline-laptops-hands-on/#2773233"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></span> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-8942g-3/">Acer Aspire 8942G</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-8942g-3/#2770841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acer-8942g-2010-03-0309-47-30-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-8942g-3/#2770843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acer-8942g-2010-03-0309-47-34-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-8942g-3/#2770845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acer-8942g-2010-03-0309-47-41-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-8942g-3/#2770847"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acer-8942g-2010-03-0309-47-46-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-8942g-3/#2770850"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acer-8942g-2010-03-0309-47-57-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-752/">Acer Aspire One 752</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-752/#2773213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-752/#2773215"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-752/#2773216"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-752/#2773217"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-one-752/#2773218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/acergal05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/acer-kicks-out-laptop-netbook-upgrades-aplenty-at-cebit/">Acer kicks out laptop, netbook upgrades aplenty at CeBIT</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 13:57:00 EST. Craftily unhidden at the tail end of its press conference, Acer's long-awaited <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/acer,1820pt">Aspire 1820PT</a> convertible laptop has finally passed into our hands for ever the briefest of moments. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Strong hinge, accelerometer for tablet mode, capacitive multitouch, <em>and</em> the ability to use stylus for input (protected in a slot just below and to the right of the screen when not in use). Beyond that, seems like the typical underpowered laptop you know and love -- well, maybe not love, but you get the idea. Under the hood there's an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8GB RAM, and 320GB HDD, all priced at 599 euro, which we'd venture a guess to mean it'll be about $599 when it comes to the US (actual release date MIA). Gallery below, and brief video demonstration after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/">Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763984"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-03-46-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763986"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-07-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763988"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-16-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763989"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-29-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/aspireone532g-hands-2010-03-0311-13-35-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on-priced-for-599-euros/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on, priced for 599 euros</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on-priced-for-599-euros/">Acer Aspire 1820PT convertible hands-on, priced for 599 euros</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Mar 2010 11:46:00 EST. Now <em>that's</em> how to get our attention. While the English-speaking portion of the Acer press conference left much to be desired, the second half, decidedly more German in vernacular, had a couple great tidbits. Most notable is a price of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/02/nvidia-ion-2-now-official-acer-asus-and-lenovo-at-the-ready/">Acer's AspireOne 532G</a>, the ION 2-equipped netbook <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/15/acer-aspire-one-532g-first-to-feature-nvidia-ion-2-switchable-gr/">initially espied</a> at Mobile World Congress. The slide says it all, sort of: 379 euros -- mighty aggressive, and if history tells us anything, there's a good chance it'll be about $379 when it comes stateside, too. No word on release date as far as we can tell, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for this one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/acer-aspire-one-532g-with-ion-2-priced-at-an-aggressive-379-euro/">Acer Aspire One 532G with ION 2 priced at an aggressive 379 euros</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Mar 2010 10:19:00 EST. Just weeks after Intel <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/intels-arrandale-and-clarkdale-cpus-get-benchmarked-for-your-en/">announced</a> that it would be releasing Core i5 and Core i7 chips for the mobile realm, the usual suspects have already outed a number of refreshed rigs that include said slabs of silicon. Sony's 14-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/VAIOCW/">VAIO CW</a> is now available from $829 with a mobile Core i3, while the $1,120 version ships with a Core i5, NVIDIA's GeForce GT 330M CPU and a Blu-ray combo drive. Dell has obliged by adding a 2.53GHz Core i5 to its 15-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/dell-introduces-inspiron-580-580s-studio-xps-8100-upgraded-s/">Studio</a> (available now for $999.99), and there's even a version that ships with Netgear's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Push2TV/">Push2TV</a> adapter for taking advantage of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IntelWirelessDisplay/">Intel Wireless Display</a> technology. Over on the desktop side, Acer hasn't wasted any time by updating its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/31/acers-aspire-predator-gaming-rig-gets-even-faster-stays-just-a/">Aspire G Predator</a> with a sultry black shell (as opposed to the old orange one) and a 3.06GHz Core i7-950 processor, though the $3,185 MSRP should scare away all but the hardest of hardcore. Seen any others get the Core i5 / i7 bump? <div style="text-align: left;">Acer's maintained a steady lead in the race to sell as many netbooks as possible in the past year. That's largely because the Taiwanese manufacturer figured out early that basic netbooks at lower prices would fly off shelves. And the new Aspire One 532h doesn't mess with that formula: the 10.1-inch netbook packs a new Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, Windows 7 Starter, 160GB hard drive and a six-cell battery all for $299. Yeah, we said $299. But at $100 less than most of the competition, how does the 532h compare in quality? What sacrifices, if any, are made for the lower price? We spent some time with the little guy, so hit the break for the full review of one of the cheapest Windows 7 netbooks around.</div>

We've already seen Acer issue a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/10/acer-issues-recall-for-some-aspire-timeline-laptops/">recall in Europe</a> way back in October, so honestly we're a bit disturbed it's taken the US Consumer Product Safety Commission this long to follow suit. Various 13.3-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AspireOne/">Aspire One</a> models -- specifically AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ, and AS3810TZG -- could cause potential burns due to a faulty internal microphone wire under the palm rest. Got one of those versions? Give Acer a ring and see if you have an affected model that'll get fixed <em>gratis</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/09/acer-issues-us-recall-for-22-000-laptops-going-disco-inferno/">Acer issues US recall for 22,000 laptops going disco inferno</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 09 Jan 2010 12:14:00 EST. We haven't heard much about the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ec18t">Gateway EC18T</a> since we saw <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/gateways-windows-7-boasting-ec18t-tablet-images-specs-leak-ont/">all those leaked pics</a> back in October, but it looks like things are starting to move: the convertible tablet just hit the FCC database, complete with some more external pictures. From all appearances, it looks like this one's going to be a family affair, as the machine itself will be sold by Gateway parent company Acer as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/23/aspire-1420p-tablet-cameos-on-acers-us-site-at-chinese-press-e/">Aspire Timeline 1420P</a>, and the FCC docs indicate sister company Packard Bell will have a version as well. Badging aside, inside we're looking at a 1.2GHz SU2300 Core 2 Duo with GMA 4500MHD graphics, up to 8GB of RAM, a 500GB max drive, an 11.6-inch screen, and an eight-hour battery life -- so depending on price, this one could be pretty attractive. We'll wait to see how long it takes before one version or another escapes the government and hits store shelves.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/27/gateway-ec18t-acer-aspire-1420p-convertible-tablet-hits-the-fc/">Gateway EC18T / Acer Aspire 1420P convertible tablet hits the FCC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 27 Dec 2009 23:31:00 EST. Acer's Aspire 1820PTZ convertible tablet may not be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/acer-aspire-timeline-1820pt-convertible-hits-australia-gets-spe/">making its London debut</a> until next month, but evidently said machine is alive and well (and shipping, to boot) over in Singapore. One particular enthusiast managed to procure one of the twistable rigs, and as a favor to anyone who appreciates freedom, Kris Kringle and In-N-Out double-doubles, he decided to unbox it, snap a few shots, throw up a video and even toss out a respectable list of impressions. We're told that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Acer/">Acer</a> crammed just about every piece of bloatware known to mankind onto this thing, and the owner didn't seem particularly thrilled with the keyboard nor the overall multitouch experience. That said, performance was found to be "snappy enough for general use," and the casing itself was satisfactorily solid. Hit that read link for the full rundown, and hop on past the break for a look at the boot sequence.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/23/acers-aspire-1820ptz-convertible-tablet-hits-the-wilds-of-singa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Acer's Aspire 1820PTZ convertible tablet hits the wilds of Singapore</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/23/acers-aspire-1820ptz-convertible-tablet-hits-the-wilds-of-singa/">Acer's Aspire 1820PTZ convertible tablet hits the wilds of Singapore</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Dec 2009 07:33:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Let's face it, not everyone needs (or wants) to carry their computer around on the daily routine. Sacrificing portability can have its advantages -- and while nettops and all-in-one PCs have become a much more dominant force this year, the traditional, highly upgradeable desktop tower is still the reigning bang-for-the-buck champ. Just make sure your certain special someone has enough desk real estate for whatever potentially-enormous chassis you decide to take home and wrap.<br />

<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/acer-aspire-timeline-1820pt-convertible-hits-australia-gets-spe/">Australia</a> can't covet it all to themselves forever, right? Acer's Aspire <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Timeline/">Timeline</a> 1820PT convertible has finally popped up on an UK retailer site with a &pound;529.99 (about $858 US) price tag and a "due for release date" of January 25th, 2010. What's that? You want news about a stateside release? Keep <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/06/aspire-timeline-1820pt-convertible-twists-its-way-onto-acers-us/">sticking with the teaser</a>, it's the best you're gonna get for now.<br />

Wanting yourself a good old fashioned convertible tablet PC? We've seen Acer's Aspire Timeline <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/1820PT/">1820PT</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/acer-aspire-timeline-1820pt-convertible-hits-australia-gets-spe/">hit Australia</a> a little under a month ago, and now the US audience is getting its first telltale sign of 1820PT acceptance. The laptop now has itself a product page on the official stateside product page. No price or release date, unfortunately, but at least we know it's on the near horizon.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Acer's Aspire <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Timeline/">Timeline</a> 1820PT lit up our radar today after going official in Italy and arriving unheralded on the company's Australian site. Yet another 11.6-inch convertible notebook, this guy ships with Windows 7 Home Premium and features both multitouch display and touchpad, up to 1366 x 768 display resolution, an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.2GHz) processor, GMA X4500MHD, up to 8GB RAM and 320GB storage, 3G, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. In addition to all that, this bad boy sports the usual ins 'n outs, including HDMI and a card reader, and boasts an eight hour battery life. Sounds like the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/07/acers-aspire-timeline-1810t-gets-the-tablet-treatment-morphs-i/">1820P</a>, eh? We thought so too. No word yet on price or stateside availability, but you can get a closer look in the gallery below, and be sure to peep the specs after the break.<br />
