Though Sony's PlayStation 4 promotional video may have plainly stated otherwise (pictured), Ubisoft claims it has no intention of bringing the Sony-exclusive Assassin's Creed 4 DLC to other consoles. The addition focuses on Aveline, heroine of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, and is said to add an hour of play time to Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. While it was initially announced as exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PS4, the aforementioned promotional video stated that the exclusivity agreement between Ubisoft and Sony was only valid for six months. A Eurogamer report today stated Ubisoft had confirmed the DLC would never appear on systems outside of the Sony umbrella. We reached out to Ubisoft for comment, and the company explained that the DLC could potentially reach other platforms in the future, but that currently the publisher had no plans to do so. "I can confirm that at the current stage the PS exclusive DLC isn't planned for Xbox 360/Xbox One," Ubisoft told Joystiq. The key word here is "current." Ubisoft appears to be keeping its options open for the future, while also adhering to the spirit (if not the letter) of its agreement with Sony. This addition may appear on other consoles at some point, or it may not - either way these PR vagueries absolve Ubisoft of having to commit to anything.

PlayStation Vita game Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC as Assassin's Creed Liberation HD. The download-only release will not only benefit from updated graphics, but new missions and other enhancements as well. An extensive Q&A from Ubisoft, available past the break, sums the improvements made to Liberation HD, touching on the new tutorial system, new combat (protagonist Aveline can dual-wield weapons now), polished free-running and improved facial animations and cutscenes. In addition to this, each mission has been "reworked" to provide better "pacing and challenge" for players. "And one more thing; we have worked heavily to improve the frame rate. The game will be smooth," says producer Momchil Valentinov Gindyanov. AI and crowd behavior will also behave like Assassin's Creed Liberation HD's console brethren. "Using the AnvilNext engine and existing Assassin's Creed technology has really allowed us to push the crowd and AI behaviour," Gindyanov writes. "Liberation features all the crowd behaviour you've come to expect from an Assassin's Creed game, tailored to our own specific locations, so you can expect to see all sorts of activities unique to New Orleans, including Mardi Gras!" Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is due on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC from developer Ubisoft Sofia. Neither timetable nor price has been announced.

Alleged promotional material featuring an upgraded HD version of Ubisoft's PS Vita Assassin's Creed spinoff Liberation has surfaced, hinting at an upcoming release for Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, and PC platforms. Reputable Xbox Live Marketplace watchdog @lifelower corroborates the discovery, noting that a console version of Liberation was submitted for a Brazilian classification rating back in July. The image above, which first appeared at Chinese forum A9VG and was later discovered by a NeoGAF forums member, also outs a number of previously unannounced Ubisoft games, including Assassin's Creed Pirates, Autodance II, Endwar Online, Rabbids: Big Bang and Valiant Hearts: The Great War. The promotional material additionally features a logo for Rayman: Fiesta Run, a likely follow-up to last year's mobile platformer Rayman: Jungle Run.

Assassin's Creed 3's PlayStation Vita companion piece, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, has either shipped or sold "close to 600,000" units, Ubisoft announced during a financial investors conference call this morning. We say "or" because, while the word "sold" was used, this terminology was also used to refer to Assassin's Creed 3's 12 million shipped units, and therefore the true nature of the statistic is unknown. It's also unknown what percentage of Liberation's volume is accounted for by its PlayStation Vita bundle. We've reached out to Ubisoft for clarification and further information and will update when either is received.Update: Ubisoft has confirmed with us that Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation has shipped nearly 600,000 units. For clarification, the term "sell-in" refers to units shipped to retailers, while the term "sell-through" refers to units purchased from retailers by customers. Thus, Ubisoft (or anyone else, for that matter) can say units have been "sold" when referring to either statistic.

The Vita's sales pitch – "console-like" games in a mobile device – mirrors that of the PSP when it first launched, admits John Koller, Sony Marketing VP for handhelds and consoles. The Vita, however, has learned from the PSP's failures."The issue that happened with PSP is we got overrun with ports," Koller tells Gamasutra. "It became very difficult for us to define what made PSP unique. The content development became a bit unstructured or decentralized, in that we got a lot of content that was on PlayStation 2 and got thrown over to the handheld."Sony is recommending publishers create unique content for the Vita, citing Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation or Activision with Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, rather than ports."The messaging is similar [between PSP and PS Vita], but I think the output is going to be quite different," Koller says.

We may have just learned a little bit more about that Assassin's Creed game Ubisoft announced for the Vita last August. The game, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, is said to take place in New Orleans and "across the Gulf of Mexico" during the end of the French/Indian War, according to neoGAF user ImLibo, who supposedly received the July issue of Game Informer ahead of time. These two tweeted pictures appear to corroborate the thread's claims that the game will star a female French assassin of African descent named Aveline. The thread also mentions a multiplayer mode "specifically tailored to the Vita experience," as well as alligators and the ability to "explore the entirety of New Orleans without loading a new area."We've reached out to Ubisoft for comment.
