Loot boxes have been a source of controversy in recent years. They offer gamers a way to snag virtual items, but because the rewards are typically randomized and players can buy them with real money, they've been called as a form of gambling. Some jurisdictions have banned them completely, and others have looked into them. The games industry is attempting to soothe those concerns. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have agreed to disclose the odds of obtaining highly-sought-after gear inside loot boxes.

Most video games set in the First or Second World War shoot for gritty realism. In Battlefield 1, for instance, there's an extraordinary amount of detail in every uniform, firearm and mud-filled trench. It's the visual fidelity, paired with addictive combat, that draws players in.

Mario Kart VR has already graced Japan and London...now it's making a pitstop in the US. Yes, you can (finally) immerse yourself in the cartoonish karting action -- while sitting in a physical vehicle with pedals and a steering wheel -- at Washington DC's Union Station right now. But you better be quick: Bandai Namco's "VR Zone Portal" is only in town till March 2019, reports Road to VR.

The critically-acclaimed Dark Souls series is getting a three-disc bundle release for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year. Dark Souls Trilogy will include the remastered original, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition. Publisher Bandai Namco is promising "all DLC content" too, making this a pretty definitive collection for fans of the FromSoftware franchise. It's an obvious move, though one that could rile some players — Dark Souls: Remastered was only released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in May, and the Switch version comes out on October 19th, the same day as Dark Souls Trilogy.

Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games is back with another branching horror game, but it's breaking from tradition in more ways than one. It's launching The Dark Pictures Anthology, a collection of self-contained titles that touch on various horror genres. There's no (known) connection to the Until Dawn universe, and this won't be a PlayStation-only franchise -- it'll be available on Xbox One and PC as well.

When 11-11: Memories Retold was announced, it promised a war drama rife with the "emotional" human experience. Now, Bandai Namco, Wallace & Gromit's Aardman Animation Studios and DigixArt have released the first trailer for the narrative adventure. It introduces you to the two main characters from opposing sides during WW1 and shows you the game's 3D painterly style and beautiful color palette. One of the main characters is a German soldier named Kurt voiced by Sebastian Koch (Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies) who joined the war to find his son who's missing in action. The other is Harry, a Canadian photographer played by Elijah Wood, who'll show you the harsh realities of war through his lens.

Negan might be tied up in the latest season of The Walking Dead, but that doesn't mean he can't bash a few skulls in the latest Tekken video game. That's right, the iconic Saviors leader (and archenemy of Rick Grimes and company) is coming to Tekken 7 as part of the game's season two DLC pass. Bandai Namco revealed the character in a teaser video released during the annual EVO fighting game tournament. There was no gameplay, though, just a hint of Negan's leather jacket, red scarf and lethal baseball bat, Lucille, as well as a few lines delivered by actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Bandai Namco announced in June that Dragon Ball FighterZ will arrive on the Nintendo Switch in September. And now the publisher has revealed that an open beta will be available to Switch players starting in August. Bandai Namco didn't share a lot of details about the beta test, so we don't know what types of fighters or modes will be included or how long it will run.

Just a month after Bandai Namco revealed a release date for the much anticipated RPG Code Vein, the company says it's now delaying the launch until next year. Originally expected to drop this September, Code Vein is a Dark Souls-meets-anime mash-up that's created a lot of excitement since its announcement in 2017, which according to Namco is the reason for its postponement. In a release, the company's vice president of marketing and digital Hervé Hoerdt said they made the decision in order to "further refine its gameplay in an effort to exceed the expectations fans already have of the title."

If you've been aching for Dark Souls-style combat but want everything through an anime lens, Bandai Namco's action RPG Code Vein will arrive on PC and consoles on September 28th. The game was announced a year ago, and from the start, it clearly took a page out of From Software's book with slower combat, gothic settings and lots of blood. But with a new trailer, we've got a peek into the game's story, too.

Pac-Man might never have left the public eye, but with Wreck-it Ralph, Pixels and Ready Player One, the iconic elder statesman of gaming is now in front of people that may have never touched an arcade joystick. To that extent, Pac-Man's latest 'game' makes sense — it's arriving on Amazon's Alexa as a skill today.

Games set in real-world conflicts don't necessarily glorify war, but it's rare that they fully address the horrors of war. For every poignant story like Valiant Hearts, there's many more titles that might only offer token commentary. Wallace & Gromit's Aardman Animation Studios, Bandai Namco and DigixArt want to change that. They've unveiled 11-11: Memories Retold, a narrative adventure about two World War I soldiers who meet under the "most unlikely of circumstances."
