When you're cruising down the highway on your hog, wind in your face, hair trailing behind you, teeth covered with insects, you probably want a GPS unit that's as rugged and unafraid of dying as you are. That's where Becker's Crocodile (AKA Traffic Assist Z 100) comes in. Nothing says "fearless badass" like a crocodile-skin satnav, replete with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, 2GB on-board memory, 3D terrain and city views, and 42 country maps pre-installed. The device is rubber coated and water resistant, and features turn-by-turn directions optimized for motorcycles, making it ideal for your cross country biker gang meet-ups, or just long weekends cruising the coastlines. The Crocodile will be released in October for €300 (or around $438).

Becker unveils the Crocodile Traffic Assist Z 100 GPS for motorcycles originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 02 Sep 2008 11:16:00 EST. Believe it or not, the Berlin-based IFA trade show is nearly upon us, and Becker is more than prepared. Reportedly, the Z100 Crocodile will be making the journey, complete with a 4.3-inch display, an SD card slot, European NAVTEQ maps, a SiRFstarIII GPS receiver and RDS-TMC support. Furthermore, the unit will sport an ultra-rugged exterior meant to handle nearly any jungle excursion you set out on. Expect to hear more (a price and release date would be just fine, Becker) when IFA commences late next month.

[Via NaviGadget]

Becker readies Z100 Crocodile GPS system for IFA debut originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 18 Jul 2008 17:44:00 EST. Not that it's been that long since we heard from Becker or anything, but it's never too early for yet another numerically named navigation unit, right? Available now in the UK, the Becker Traffic Assist 7827 sports a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 resolution touchscreen, 400MHz processor, 128MB of RAM, a SiRFstarIII GPS chipset, integrated TMC receiver for traffic avoidance, an SD expansion slot and USB connectivity. Additionally, you'll find a rechargeable battery good for around five hours, a 2GB SD card with maps for 37 European countries, a headphone jack and a multimedia player that handles photos and MP3s. All things considered, we suppose it's not priced too outrageously at £249.95 ($497), but if you're still unsure if it's worth the coin, may we point out the elusive "mood light" feature to push you over the edge.

[Via NaviGadget]

Becker Traffic Assist 7827 loose in the UK originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 17:57:00 EST.
Nothing too stand-out here, but it looks like Harman/Becker (otherwise simply known as Becker) has another GPS unit on the way to the US, with its new BE 7977 recently passing through the FCC's capable hands. From the looks of it, this one appears to be quite similar to the company's 7927 model, albeit with a larger, widescreen display. Otherwise, it seems like the device (which is manufactured by Mitac) packs all the basic features you'd expect, including built-in Bluetooth, an SD/MMC card reader, and an optional external antenna for improved reception. No word on a price just yet, but with the FCC business out of the way, it wouldn't seem like a release is all that far off.

Closely following the Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934 GPS, it looks like Becker may be readying yet another PND for release at IFA. The so-called Traffic Assist 7927 will reportedly boast a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, SIRFstarIII GPS chipset, RDS-TMC support, a 400MHz processor, 128MB of RAM, European maps on a 2GB memory card, USB connectivity, and a built-in media player for good measure. Beyond that, we've simply got to wait and see what details await us at IFA, but feel free to peep a few more angles after the break.

[Via NaviGadget]
Continue reading Becker readying Traffic Assist 7927 PND?

Becker readying Traffic Assist 7927 PND? originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 21 Aug 2007 01:24:00 EST. After releasing the Harman / Kardon Guide + Play a few months ago to positive reviews, Harman International looks like it's diversifying its GPS offerings here in the States with the introduction of a US-spec Becker Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934 GPS. The 6.5-ounce box features a 3.5-inch touchscreen with night mode, 64MB of memory expandable via SD, 400MHz processor, built-in NAVTEQ maps of the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, and a speed limit display that can alert you when you get a little too exuberant. Other frills include a WMA / MP3 player and JPEG viewer that hopefully no one will ever use while driving, and optional bicycle mounting kit. Becker's giving this one exclusively to Office Depot, and it looks like they're already in stock for $299.

Becker comes to the US with the Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934 GPS originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 03 Aug 2007 06:40:00 EST. If you'll be hitting the streets this winter, and want to feel like you're on the autobahn no matter what roadway you embrace, Becker has unveiled a Ferrari-branded Traffic Assist Pro that takes navigation to an entirely different level. Originally crafted to fit in the exquisite F430 automobile, this luxurious GPS sports a 4-inch touchscreen, SiRF Star III receiver, 400MHz processor, 64MB of RAM, 64MB of flash memory, SD / MMC slots, USB 1.1 connectivity, 3.5-millimeter audio output, 2-watt integrated speaker, and a connector for an external antenna. Moreover, it boasts MP3 / WMA playback, doubles as a JPEG viewer, and houses NAVTEQ maps of 37 European countries. As expected, a list of speed radars will always be on tap thanks to its connection to the SCDB database, so you can put those massive vented brakes to use just in time; also, you'll have access to a basic flow of traffic information with the purchase, while a "premium" (read: more expansive road selection) service will be available for €50 ($64) per year. So if you need yet another exotic gadget to tide you over until you can afford the real deal, Becker's Ferrari-styled GPS will be available later this month for €699 ($898).

[Via NaviGadget]

Becker burns out with Ferrari-themed Traffic Assist Pro GPS originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 13 Nov 2006 16:06:00 EST.
