  • De-glossing an Onyx DS is torture most foul [update 1]

It's always interesting to see what people will do to their systems. Especially their expensive, pretty ones. The Onyx DS (or, black DS) happens to be, in our opinion, the sleekest, sexiest system released on this planet. The fact that our fingerprints were visible after playing doesn't bother us. We simply carry around a soft cloth to wipe them away after long sessions with Starfox Command, and consider it a small price to pay to the gods of sleek design. While we have no problems seeing the DS covered in shiny goodness, some people disagree. This difference of views can sometimes lead to experimentation of the most brutal kind. NeoGAFfer Dice isn't too satisfied with the glare on his Onyx DS. He decided to experiment with this in a very painful way. Overt your eyes, weak-stomached ones. This one kicks you right in the gut. Behold what happens when you take equipment used for fingernails to a DS. The end results are icky and can be seen on the second page of the thread. Is there some kind of system abuse line we can call to make the pain stop? [Thanks JC!] [Update 1: Pesky typos!]

  • New DS colors this September?

The US has been very patient with our white DS Lite's. We have twiddled our thumbs while other countries got way cooler DS colors like blue, pink and black. Now, some of us have been lucky enough to get a black DS (not trying to brag here) and we understand that it is way sexy. Yes, white is appealing and it has a few advantages (fingerprints are harder to see, for example). But we are ready for variety. We want to have to rack our brains over which color we will spend $130 on. Rumors are floating around that we may have that choice yet. September 10, the appointed day, just might bring diversity to our DS Lite in the form of pink and black. Don't get too excited. These rumors have been heard before. We just hope they will turn out to be true. [Via Go Nintendo]

  • D(S)-Day: DS Lite storms European retailers

Alright Europe, now's your turn. Both Japan and the US have had their fill -- heck, even Australia and New Zealand got in on it already -- so now I guess we can let you out of the cellar so you can get your clawing, rending meatmittens on the tender, delicate DS Lite. So you have to wait a little longer, you have to pay a little more (£100 for the Brits, 150 € for the rest of youse), you don't think Uncle Nintendo knows that? He's gone out of his way to whip up a special Black DS Lite just for you guys. This isn't Enamel Navy or Ice Blue ... this is Black. It's awesome and it's all yours.Until they inevitably release it stateside for $130 in a couple months. Until then, who (except this guy) got one?

  • Black DS Lite's flesh compared to PSP, DS Phat

Spudstercool, the tipster that sent us shots of the black DS Lite yesterday, was busy last night taking a few more photos of his black DS Lite alongside his PSP and now discarded DS Phat. This thing is hawt. Some answers to questions in the earlier comments thread: The DS Phat goes for around £70 on eBay.co.uk although GAME stores will give you £40 towards a DS Lite if you give them your DS Phat. The North American release date for the black DS Lite is, as yet, unannounced. You can import a U.K. DS Lite to your country without worrying about region encoding for games, but you'll still need to figure out a way of converting the UK DS Lite's 3-pin 230V/50Hz power adapter to your local mains power.

A mysterious fellow, wishing only to be known as Spudstercool, managed to get his finely manicured hands on an unnervingly attractive Black DS Lite, several days before its anticipated European release. We're not sure what UK retailer he works for, but we now have to assume that trenchcoats and pencil-shaped cameras are integral to their uniforms. If you manage a games store and recently viewed one of your salesmen entering an office, only for bright shafts of light to briefly pour through the blinds, you'd best be suspicious. You've either got a spy or an unstable superhero in your midst.[Thanks, Spudstercool! You're our hero.]

  • Europe to get black DS Lite

Looks like we've got some bad news for those in the US anticipating a DS Lite in black -- looks like Apple isn't the only one making the dark version of their portable a little more inaccessible than its white counterpart. So far as we know we're still slated for that June 11 launch of the "Polar White" DS Lite in the states, but unless they're gonna surprise us with some additional colors it looks like Europe will be getting black first come June 23rd. And don't be fooled by Nintendo's press shots above, we don't think there's a muddy gray / brown shade en route as well, just black and white due Europe for about £99 or €149.99 ($185 or $191, depending on your region).[Thanks, Ant]
