  • BlizzCon 2011: Round one of ticket sales are sold out

The first round of tickets for BlizzCon 2011 is sold out. Would-be convention-goers snagged up the tickets quickly, as predicted, and queues reached into the 12,000-15,000 range. BlizzCon tickets will go on sale once more on Wednesday, May 25, at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST). Here are some fun BlizzCon ticket facts: Based on queue positions when tickets sold out, likely less than 4,000 total transactions were completed. The WoW Insider staff all clicked to buy our tickets at nearly the exact same second. Some of us didn't get a queue. Others ended up 13,000 deep. Whether or not you're getting a BlizzCon ticket today was a matter of one single second. Did you get the number of tickets you needed? Are you ready for BlizzCon? I got my tickets, and cannot wait to see everyone in October at the annual WoW Insider reader meetup party.

Tickets to BlizzCon 2011 are going on sale today, and if past years' sales are any indication, tickets will sell out fast -- probably in the first second. You read that right. One damn second. That's a pretty strong testament to peoples' love for the Blizzard brand. After all, there are plenty of reasons to not want to go to BlizzCon. Tickets are more expensive than ever, costing $175 each. For many of us, lodging and airfare are even bigger expenses. And after spending what may amount to a thousand dollars or more, most our time at BlizzCon will be spent waiting in lines. Line after line after line after line. And yet, despite all those reasons not to go, tickets will still sell out today in 1 second. Given the long odds and high costs of attending, are you still going to be trying to get that elusive ticket (or four) to BlizzCon 2011 today? Or are you taking a pass this year?

Tomorrow is a big day: It's the scheduled date for both BlizzCon ticket sales and the second coming of Christ. OK, credibility on that second thing is sketchy at best, but the ticket sales are a sure thing. The sales dates were announced back in April, and veteran BlizzCon fans know to be lightning fast when purchasing tickets. If you're new to all of this, it's important to note that all 20,000 tickets were snapped up in under an hour last year, so you'll need to be ready. The first wave of tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning at 1:00 p.m. EDT, and if you're not quite fast enough, you can try for the second batch on May 25th. Check out all the ticket types and prices on the BlizzCon site, and good luck!

Get those credit cards ready and be prepared to move quickly, because the folks at BlizzCon have announced the dates for ticket sales. If previous years are any indication, you're going to have to get your tickets almost immediately or not at all -- last year 20,000 passes sold out in less than one hour total. Regular tickets will go on sale in two batches; the first round will be on on May 21st and the second on May 25th, and each pass is priced at $175. If you're feeling like splurging, you can wait until the 28th and spring for a benefit dinner ticket for $500. These tickets benefit the Children's Hospital of Orange County and grant you access to a pre-BlizzCon dinner with members of the Blizzard team in addition to granting you that coveted BlizzCon pass. Finally, you can watch from the comfort of your own home for $39.99 thanks to a virtual ticket. Virtual tickets will get you comprehensive live streaming coverage, and the dates on that one are coming soon. Check the BlizzCon site for all the details.

Blizzard is offering those who bought BlizzCon 2010 tickets, even DirecTV virtual tickets, the opportunity to buy exclusive BlizzCon merchandise online for 48 hours this weekend -- or at least they were supposed to, hours ago. Right now, the store is completely busted and no one is able to access the exclusive items. Blizzard is on the case, according to a forum post, but there's no ETA on when people will actually be able to make purchases. UPDATE: Blizzard has updated the original post saying that the sale will begin Sunday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. PST.

If you've ever been to a convention and seen all of that wonderful swag, you've also seen the lines to procure that wonderful swag. It's annoying to wait in a line for an hour just to buy a T-shirt that you can only get at that venue. Blizzard is bypassing this issue by allowing anyone who has purchased a BlizzCon ticket to grab those unique merchandise items ahead of time and online. No fighting over the last murloc head can cozy or Raynor onesie for your child, just simple online transactions with the goods being shipped directly to your home. This is only for people who have actual tickets to the event. Anyone with a virtual ticket will have to wait until the 13th to get in on their own 48-hour sale. If you don't fall into either of those groups and still want to get in on the swag, then you need to go buy your virtual ticket before 11:50 p.m. Pacific on Oct. 10 to qualify for the sale or you're out of luck. Zarhym on the 48 hour sale Heading to BlizzCon 2010? Planning to purchase some souvenirs at the show? From October 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific time until October 11 at 9:59 a.m., BlizzCon 2010 ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase select BlizzCon 2010 store merchandise online (while supplies last). Items purchased through this sale will be shipped directly to your home, giving you more time to take in the panels, tournaments, and other events at the show. To participate, log in to the online Blizzard Store during the sale hours using the Battle.net account provided when you purchased your BlizzCon 2010 ticket (viewable in the buyer's Order History), and head to the More Products section. A second 48-hour sale for BlizzCon Virtual Ticket purchasers will be taking place beginning October 13 -- place your order by October 10 to participate. http://us.blizzard.com/store/ source

If you were lucky enough to have bought BlizzCon tickets, watch your email and make sure nothing gets lodged in the spam filter. Your BlizzCon ticket barcode is required, along with a photo ID, to get into the show and pick up your badge. In less time than it takes to complete the Halls of Lightning, the first round of BlizzCon tickets sold out last night. WoW.com has the timeline (pictured) of how quickly the $150 tickets sold out -- only to appear on eBay at $500 shortly thereafter. The next opportunity to gain entrance to Blizzard's celebration of all things itself occurs this Saturday, June 5 at 1PM EDT (10AM PDT) sharp, with a limit of five tickets per household. WoW.com has some tips on how to make sure the process goes smoothly.

Make sure you're online and at the Blizzard Store or the official BlizzCon website tomorrow evening, play a few rounds of Failoc-alypse and hope your fingers are fast, because these tickets are sure to sell out within seconds.

If the quest for bigger and better loot leaves you craving still more, maybe you need a guild that takes things to the next level: a shot at WoW loot you can wear in real life, too. Enter The Swag Dogs, a brand new guild created by our friends at SwagDog. The Blizzard-approved apparel specialists have created a family-friendly guild where players can make new friends, get in on raiding groups on the ground floor -- oh, and get a shot at free WoW swag and BlizzCon tickets. You'll recognize SwagDog as the folks behind those sweet guild tabard-style T-shirts you've seen on recent posts here at WoW.com, including our recent WoW 5th anniversary T-shirt giveaway. The SwagDog crew are pretty good people. They sponsor our WoW.com Guild of the Month contest, giving out a $100 SwagDog gift certificate to the winning guild every month. When we heard SwagDog was forming an in-game guild, we smelled a marketing rat -- but as it turns out, there's no pressure to buy. Instead, The Swag Dogs have created the guild as a conduit between players and the SwagDog design team, to encourage players to bring their ideas for new products and designs directly to the source. Those who participate actively will gain a shot at special giveaways ... And of course, the pleasure of getting into a friendly, casual guild from the get-go.

  • BlizzCon barcodes being sent out

Those lucky enough to score tickets to BlizzCon this year should start to see their BlizzCon barcodes arrive in their email boxes today. The barcode system is a new one for Blizzard. You will need to print out the email you receive and bring the barcode with you when you pick up your badge at the convention hall. We highly recommend picking up your badge the day before (Thursday) so you can enjoy waiting in long lines to get into the place on Friday morning for the opening ceremony. You should receive a separate email and separate barcode for each person for whom you bought a ticket for. My tickets are going to a few WoW.com staff members, and the first of them came through this morning. Another email came this afternoon.Initially we were not going to run this story until we heard from Blizzard directly that these emails were real and legit, however a very large number of people are reporting receiving their barcodes. The barcode email comes from pnmi.com, which is not a blizzard.com address. Because of this we have contacted and are waiting for Blizzard to verify the email. We'll update this post when we hear back from them. I find it perplexing that Blizzard would drum into our heads for years telling us only to trust a blizzard.com source, and then have a massive email sent out that isn't from blizzard.com without telling us about its legitimacy before hand.Update: Blizzard has confirmed these emails are legit. So check your email and check your spam folders! My guess is that sending out all the badges will take a day or so.

  • Last two chances to win BlizzCon tickets

    by

    07.26.2009

A pair of contests popped up on the World of Warcraft official site in the past few days, reminding everyone of a small and closing window to try and get to BlizzCon. One contest, sponsored by Alienware, requires absolutely nothing more than signing up for the DELL newsletter through their Back to School 2009 promo page. That's it. No, seriously, that's it. Of course, it comes with the usual caveat that only allows entries from the United States, but it's a shot at winning BlizzCon tickets without so much as getting up from your comfortable chair. Read the official rules carefully, though, because it doesn't seem like the tickets come with airfare or accommodations (go figure!).The second contest is run by Nvidia, and it sounds like a sweeter deal because unlike most contests, this one is open to the residents of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, and India (except those guys from Tamil Nadu). Sounds great, right? Well, you also need to purchase one of the following qualifying graphics cards to enter - an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+, or NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250. Considering this contest gives an all-expense paid trip to Anaheim and the fact that you need some mighty graphics to run WoW well anyway, it's not such a bad idea. Otherwise, you can go write that letter. Both contests end on July 31, so you've all got little time to spare. See you at BlizzCon!

  • BlizzCon 2009 ticket sales are done

    Mike Schramm

    06.01.2009

BlizzCon 2009 tickets went on sale for the last time on Saturday at 10am PST, and were reported as sold out less than 30 minutes later. As expected, there were lots of disappointed Blizzard fans, but compared to the way things worked last year, this year's system was much more fair and much less frustrating. Unfortunately, you had to be quick -- while the sellout time was actually around 10:24, tickets really sold out in a matter of seconds, because if you clicked the buy button even 30 seconds to a minute after it went live, you were too far back in the queue to buy tickets at all. But even though it was a very small window of chance, it was at least a fair chance -- Blizzard's meter for tickets left on Saturday started at around 50%, which indicates that they split the two days of sales right down the middle. As long as you showed up and clicked at the right time, you had as much chance as anyone else. At least we got a great game out of it.If you have tickets, enjoy the show (and don't forget: our meetup will be on Thursday night!). But if you don't, what now? The DirecTV stream will be available both via their service and on the Internet. And even if you don't jump in on that deal, we'll of course have plenty of up-to-date coverage, as will lots of folks in the community. And if you want to go a little black market, tickets will probably be available online in a few different places. We've already heard that Blizzard is starting to crack down on eBay, but certainly there are other places tickets will appear for sale. And as time goes on, we're sure people who were planning to go won't be able to make it, contests will be held in various places, and a few more tickets will free up.So all hope may not be lost. But unless you want to call in a favor or pay a premium, BlizzCon tickets are sold. We say: the fourth weekend in August can't come soon enough.
