Engadget has posted several Best Buy inventory documents that appear to confirm what we've all been awaiting with bated breath – the $399 40GB PlayStation 3.The documents also reveal the new model will come packaged with the Spiderman 3 Blu-ray and has an "In Stock Date" of Oct. 28. However, the console's actual release date was not filled in, so we don't know exactly when it will be available to the public, but the newly rumored Nov. 16 release date is certainly possible. At this point, we can't wait for Sony's supposed Oct. 12 "big bang" announcement to see if there are any more tricks up its sleeve.

If you still needed more confirmation about Sony's new PS3 model, which most believe will be a slimmed-down 40GB unit, this might be just what you need. Sony's Blu-raySavings.com lists the new model as a qualifier to receive five free Blu-ray movies once you've purchased the system.Earlier this week, Sony spun us into a frenzy when an FCC filing was published detailing some features of the CECHG01 model. At this point, we're not too sure what Sony's waiting for as it keeps declining to comment on one of the worst-kept secrets of recent memory. Just go ahead and announce the thing already![via NeoGAF]

The rumors of Sony's mythical 40GB PS3 have been swirling around almost as fast as Lyndsay Lohan ruining her career, but until now, we haven't had any hard proof of the former. A recent Sony FCC filing suggests a new PS3 model, designated CECHG01, is coming, despite the company's recent denials.Unlike what previous stories suggested, it looks like Wi-Fi and USB ports will remain in this new model, but there wasn't any information on the size of its hard drive, which I'm sure the ladies are just dying to know.If Sony can keep everything inside the PS3 that makes it so great, but drop the hard drive down a bit and hit the more consumer-friendly price tag of $399, it could find that audience who has been reluctant to join the Sony Army.[via Engadget]

Having just denied the existence of a low cost, entry level PS3, we weren't expecting to find a new PS3 model from Sony parked in the FCC exhibits list this morning. That's right, a new PlayStation 3 model CECHG01 was just unearthed. The juiciest of documents are all withheld upon Sony's request for confidentiality. However, we did manage to scrape up a few details: Bluetooth 2.0+EDR; 802.11b/g WiFi; a 3.2GHz CPU clock speed just like other PS3s; 66MHz ATA, 133MHz ATA, 33MHz PCI and 750MHz SATA1; and a bevy of ports including USB, HDMI, and Ethernet. At least that what it looks like after combing through the data. Nothing new, eh? So the reason for the new model number is likely the result of a hard disk change given Sony's preference for unique models reflecting changes in storage. However, for all we know that could be an increase and not a decrease in capacity so we'll all have to hold tight for now and watch this unfold.[Via Pocket-lint and Spong]
