"Nemesis," the fourth and final DLC pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts, has come to Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles, bringing with it four new maps, four unique Field Orders and the final installment of Ghosts' episodic Extinction storyline, Episode 4: Exodus. If we were Jim Carrey trying to do a horror movie, we might think the number four was haunting us. The maps included for Ghosts players ready to send their enemies into the afterlife are: "Goldrush," an abandoned gold mine in the southwest United States; "Subzero," a military base nestled in the frozen wilderness of Canda that harbors a "mysterious terror," according to a press release; "Dynasty," a Chinese lakeshore village surrounded by mountains, gardens and awe-inspiring architecture; and "Showtime," a reimagined version of a map from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare called "Shipment." Meanwhile, those who'd prefer to shoot alien faces instead of humans will find a new enemy in Extinction mode's conclusion. The Ancestors, as they're called, are the most powerful extraterrestrial foes yet seen in Ghosts, with mind control powers and psionic attacks. Nemesis is now available for Xbox systems for $14.99 a la carte. Alternatively, you can purchase the $49.99 Season Pass to grab it and the three other DLC packs released thus far, saving you $10 from the amount it would cost to download each individually. Nemesis will be available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 next month. [Image: Activision]

The penultimate Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC pack, officially dubbed "Invasion," will first appear on June 3. Though initially exclusive to the Xbox One and Xbox 360, other platforms will receive the DLC shortly after. Included in the Invasion DLC pack are four new multiplayer maps, ranging from an abandoned archaeological dig in Egypt to a Dia de los Muertos celebration in a sleepy Mexican town. Additionally, Invasion also includes the third episode of the ongoing Extinction storyline, which pits the near future's most marketable soldiers against waves of ravenous extraterrestrials. In this latest episode, your team of hardened alien killers will descend into the subterranean fortress of those controlling the alien hordes, both to blast them to pieces and to set up the final showdown inevitably included in the fourth Extinction entry. As with prior DLC packs, the Invasion DLC features a $15 price tag. Those who have purchased the Call of Duty: Ghosts Season Pass will receive the additional content at no extra charge. Those of you scratching your heads in bewilderment as to why so many people buy each new installment of Activision's Call of Duty will have a chance to get in on the action themselves at the always attractive price of "free." From May 2 until May 5, both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 will play host to a Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer demo. Once the demo has been pulled down from the PlayStation Network, players will be granted access to three of the game's multiplayer maps as well as three gameplay modes, ranging from the typical Team Deathmatch to the objective-based Search And Rescue. Finally, the demo offers players a gratis opportunity to play the first episode of the Extinction co-operative game type, where soldiers battle waves of invading aliens in a small Colorado town. Luckily, that state shouldn't have any issues with the game's new-found affection for the devil's weed. [Image: Activision]

  • Major League Gaming adds Call of Duty to ESPN's X Games lineup

Alongside the skateboarders, BMX bikers and other extreme athletes at the upcoming X Games Austin, a comparatively sedate group of gamers will be furiously gunning one another down in a Call of Duty tournament that Major League Gaming hopes will become tradition. According to ESPN, the tournament will feature MLG's top five Call of Duty: Ghosts teams, as well as the top three teams from the recent Call of Duty championships. These eight teams will battle it out, first in double-elimination, then single-elimination matches. At first glance this seems like an odd combination - ESPN describes itself as the worldwide leader in sports, while Call of Duty matches are defined by players sitting largely motionless for lengthy stretches of time - if you dig into the history of things it starts to make sense. Major League Gaming CEO Sundance DiGiovanni once served as the resident gaming expert on ESPN's morning talk show Cold Pizza, and DiGiovanni's long-standing relationship with the network served as the impetus for this partnership. "The [Call of Duty] subject matter is mature and it's not something that is going to be right for everybody, but there's a huge section of the audience that plays these games," DiGiovanni said. "You'll see when these games are released -- one of the main places they are advertised is on the ESPN networks." DiGiovanni makes a valid point, but it remains to be seen if ESPN's traditional X Games audience will come for the wicked-sweet kickflips and stay for the rampant killstreaks. [Image: Activision]

Infinity Ward is launching DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox platforms that will add narration to multiplayer matches by the one and only Snoop Dogg. As you terrorize the battlefield, Snoop becomes your own personal hype man, which sounds like just about the most amazing thing in the world. Want something a little gruffer? A voice pack featuring Full Metal Jacket drill instructor R. Lee Ermey is also in the works. Each DLC pack is priced at $2.99. IW is launching a number of new customization DLC packs for weaponry featured in Ghosts, as well. Continuing to show its friendliness towards all things 420, Ghosts players can purchase the puntastic Blunt Force Personalization Pack, which delivers "chronic lethality" camo, a reticle, patch, player card and background. The Blunt Force pack and other customization packages are available for $1.99. Finally, the latest set of DLC features player skins, one of which features past CoD heroes Soap and Ghost. According to the Call of Duty blog, customization DLC packages "are non-transferable and cannot be carried forward or backward" between last generation's console and the new Xbox One. All DLC will launch on April 22 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. [Image: Activision-Blizzard]

When Activision releases the Devastation DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts on April 3, the addition may include a familiar face - or, more specifically, a familiar shimmering outline. If you pay a visit to the Call of Duty Instagram account (or click through the break below), you'll find a short teaser clip that bears all the familiar hallmarks of the extraterrestrial hunter first made famous in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger action classic Predator. The vignette depicts a humid jungle, a crashed helicopter and the familiar staccato clicking of that film's titular creature. Though we're never given a good look at The Predator, the clip ends with a visually distorted, nigh-invisible creature rushing toward the camera. While the inclusion of a classic cinematic monster might have seemed odd a few months ago, Call of Duty: Ghosts has been gradually moving away from strict realism and into the realm of pure entertainment spectacle. The Onslaught DLC pack, which debuted in January, brought horror icon Michael Myers to the shooter, while the game's ongoing Extinction DLC storyline pits human soldiers against hordes of aliens in the wastes of rural Alaska. 03.26.2014

If you're hoping to make the jump to the new generation of hardware with Call of Duty: Ghosts in tow, you should get a move on. Activision's promotional offer on upgrades of the shooter ends in just five days. Call of Duty: Ghosts first debuted only a few weeks prior to the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. To ease the transition from one console generation to the next, Activision instituted a deal in which those who purchased Call of Duty: Ghosts for either the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 could upgrade to the PS4 or Xbox One version without having to purchase the shooter all over again. Details are slightly different on each platform, but the final cost to players is about $10. All good things must come to an end though, and March 31 will see the closure of this upgrade path. If you still hope to take advantage of the promotion in the little time remaining, have a look at the Call of Duty: Ghosts FAQ, which covers all the details you'll need to upgrade your game. 03.06.2014

Activision's flagship first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Ghosts, is expanding once again, with the release of the "Devastation" DLC pack on April 3. Devastation marks the second of four major DLC releases for Call of Duty: Ghosts and brings with it four new multiplayer maps, alongside the second chapter of the alien-infested narrative attached to the Extinction gametype. The highlight of these new maps is a modern reimagining of "Dome," a fan-favorite multiplayer arena first introduced in 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Other maps include a wrecked shipping vessel pinned against an equally wrecked New York City bridge, a massive South American excavation platform and a Mayan temple inexplicably located at the top of a mountain. To whet players' appetites for the DLC, Activision is releasing a small portion of Devastation early. As of today, those Xbox Live players who own the Call of Duty: Ghosts season pass now have access to the Ripper, a convertible weapon which can transform from sub-machine gun to assault rifle faster than you can say "Optimus Prime." While season pass holders will receive Devastation at no additional charge, those who decide to purchase the DLC a la carte will need to shell out $15 for the privilege. [Image: Activision]

    03.05.2014

Activision has released updates for every version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, and alongside reams of bug fixes, the big news here is the public debut of Free Fall. As we reported in October, Free Fall is a multiplayer map that drops soldiers into a skyscraper on the verge of collapse. If you didn't already guess from the map's name, chunks of the level periodically fall away, exposing new routes through Free Fall and killing anyone too close to the destruction. Free Fall was originally available exclusively to those who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Ghosts, but this new update makes the map available to everyone, regardless of platform. Wii U owners looking for more information on the update earmarked specifically for their version of Call of Duty: Ghosts can find a detailed list on the game's forums, while this similar entry outlines the changes found in all other versions of the military shooter. Both Orion: Dino Horde, a multiplayer shooter that pits man against dinosaur, and Call of Duty: Ghosts, a game that pits Riley the dog against helicopters, are free to play this weekend. Should you wish to buy after you try, Orion is available for $1 and Ghosts is reduced to $30. Finally, Bohemia Interactive's military sandbox game Arma 3 is 40% off this weekend and available for $36.
