The Choc Creator is the brainchild of Liang Hao and a kitchen of assistant cooks -- additional research at the University of Brunel, software by developer Delcam, oversight from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Engineering+and+Physical+Sciences+Research+Council/">Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council</a> and funding from the Research Councils UK's Digital Economy program. Hao founded Choc Edge to distribute the completed machines, the first of which will be available from eBay on April 10th. Of course, pre-orders are also available for &pound;2,488, or just under $4,000. Yes, the price of printing your own sweets is steep, but when you take that first bite into your custom <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/09/engadget-logo-now-a-thrilla-in-manila/">Engadget logo</a> -- won't it be worth it?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/08/chocolate-printer-to-hit-ebay-in-april/">Too late for Easter: Chocolate printer to hit eBay in April, cost $4,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 08 Apr 2012 19:18:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/3D/">3D</a> has become an industry buzzword du jour. Tack that little epithet onto a consumer-facing product and voila!, you get to charge higher prices for its virtual premium. Well, it looks like a bunch of folks across the pond caught on and decided to throw a little <em>cocoa powder</em> into the mix. Funded by the Research Councils UK's Digital Economy program with oversight by the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Engineering+and+Physical+Sciences+Research+Council/">Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council</a>, as well as being led by the University of Exeter, the University of Brunel and software developer Delcam -- talk about too many cooks -- the tech that previously brought <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/18/vienna-university-of-technology-builds-a-3d-printer-3d-prints-t/">metal and plastic products to life</a> is getting a chocoholic makeover. Using specially designed temperature and heating controls, the printer takes uploaded 3D CAD designs and turns them into the stuff of your sweet toothed dreams. Although you won't be seeing this printer at a boutique near you, there <em>are</em> plans for a made-to-order retail site that'll let you contribute homemade creations or modify someone else's. We understand if this gets your Valentine's anticipating heart all aflutter, but please don't make any <em>actual</em> chocolate hearts -- that's just gross.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/06/chocolate-printer-makes-3d-molds-of-your-edible-visions/">Chocolate printer makes 3D molds of your edible visions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 06 Jul 2011 03:16:00 EST. So this fellow Stefan wasn't content with just getting his wife an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/product/apple-ipad">iPad</a>. No sir, he thought he'd put all the rest of us <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/26/solidalliances-crazy-earphones-v2-because-ear-fungus-sells/">to shame</a> by ensconcing the Apple tablet inside some fine chocolate from London and then transporting the frozen concoction nearly six thousand miles to Cape Town, South Africa. There's really not much more science to it than that, the chap wanted to surprise his better half and judging by the pictures on his blog, he succeeded spectacularly. Hit the source link to see for yourself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/13/ipad-frozen-into-slab-of-chocolate-delivered-to-unsuspecting-gi/">iPad frozen into slab of chocolate, delivered to unsuspecting wife</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 13 Jun 2010 16:26:00 EST. Sure, you lament about this or that certain smartphone not coming to your wireless provider of choice, but imagine if that phone hadn't even been released in your country. For those who are Russian and for whom That Certain Smartphone is the HTC Hero, your time is finally coming, and soon. HTC sent out devices to many members of the .RU press, but rather than providing functioning ones they received models made entirely of chocolate. Not entirely encouraging, but the company's Cyrillic Twitter page (which has been responsible for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/30/htc-russia-says-hd2-will-get-windows-mobile-7-upgrade-but-other/">creating a stir in the past</a>) is saying the phone is coming soon, as in the next few weeks, and HTC also created a Facebook fan page for the phone over the weekend. So, buckle up Russian readers; looks like you're getting your Hero soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/11/russia-gets-mocha-edition-htc-hero-plastic-flavor-coming-soon/">Russia gets mocha-edition HTC Hero, plastic flavor coming soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 11 Jan 2010 09:51:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">If you're reading this in South Korea, or are planning a trip there this holiday season, do us a solid, will ya? Apparently LG is releasing a Christmas Edition of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bl40">BL40</a>, with the tantalizing name: "New Chocolate: Black Label Series." We were sort of hoping that you could maybe get some hands-on pics for us. Unlike the standard BL40, this new candy bar boasts an 8MP autofocus camera, a swanky case with gold accents, and a chance to win up to 5 million Korean Won (over $4,000) in prizes. Yes, that's right -- you can win stuff by buying this phone! No word yet on availability in countries besides the ROK, but we do have a pretty sweet gallery for you below. PR after the break.<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> Apparently, the Christmas Edition is not a BL40, it's a SU630. Exclusive to Korea, this model arrives with an 8 megapixel phone and 4-inch, 21:9 touchscreen. Thanks to Emily for pointing this out! </div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/24/lg-bl40-christmas-edition-sports-8-megapixel-camera-no-egg-nog/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG BL40 Christmas Edition sports 8 megapixel camera, no egg nog (update)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/24/lg-bl40-christmas-edition-sports-8-megapixel-camera-no-egg-nog/">LG BL40 Christmas Edition sports 8 megapixel camera, no egg nog (update)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 24 Nov 2009 21:56:00 EST. Rounding out the flurry of interesting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/verizon-launches-blackberry-8530-lg-chocolate-touch-samsung-co/">Verizon Wireless launches today</a> are the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/blackberry-curve-8530-brings-optical-trackpad-to-verizon/">BlackBerry Curve 8530</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/verizons-lg-chocolate-touch-skips-on-the-bl40-influence/">LG Chocolate Touch</a> (pictured). The 8530 is pretty much just the Verizon edition of T-Mobile's 8520, but the LG Chocolate Touch bears closer examination. Basically it's just a war on the eyeballs of anyone who's ever seen the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a>, with the front, back, materials and interface of the device all falling incredibly short of aesthetic pleasure. However, the $80 phone does have a relatively responsive and usable touchscreen interface for a "dumbphone," and we've used worse touchscreen keyboards on Windows Mobile. So it's not a complete tragedy, but we really feel sorry for someone who skips over the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DROIDERIS/">DROID ERIS</a> for this just handset just to save $20. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/">LG Chocolate Touch</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426207"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426206"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426205"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426204"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426203"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/">BlackBerry Curve 8530</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426230"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426228"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426226"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/verizons-blackberry-8530-and-lg-chocolate-touch-go-hands-on/">Verizon's BlackBerry 8530 and LG Chocolate Touch go hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 12:41:00 EST. Rounding out the flurry of interesting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/verizon-launches-blackberry-8530-lg-chocolate-touch-samsung-co/">Verizon Wireless launches today</a> are the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/11/05/blackberry-curve-8530-brings-optical-trackpad-to-verizon/">BlackBerry Curve 8530</a> and <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/11/05/verizons-lg-chocolate-touch-skips-on-the-bl40-influence/">LG Chocolate Touch</a> (pictured). <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/">LG Chocolate Touch</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426207"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426206"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426205"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426204"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-8530-hands-on/#2426203"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/chocolate-touch-hands-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/">BlackBerry Curve 8530</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426230"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426228"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/blackberry-curve-8530/#2426226"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/bb-8530-hands-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/verizons-blackberry-8530-and-lg-chocolate-touch-go-hands-on/">Verizon's BlackBerry 8530 and LG Chocolate Touch go hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 12:41:00 EST. HTC's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DROIDERIS/">DROID ERIS</a> is arguably the biggest announcement out of Verizon today, but that's not the only thing getting real this morning -- far from it, in fact. If BlackBerrys, music-centric dumbphones, rugged flips, or commitment-free data are your bag, head on over to Engadget Mobile where we've covered the rest of the action!<br />

We've suspected it for a while, and now it's 100 percent confirmed: Verizon's latest Chocolate device, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ChocolateTouch/">Chocolate Touch</a>, takes absolutely zero influence from the lovely <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> with which it shares a name. That said, it definitely seems to continue the Chocolate line's music-oriented tradition with an integrated FM radio, dedicated music key, stereo Bluetooth, equalization tech from Dolby Mobile, and a curious "Join the Band" function that lets you add in your own beats to the music with a full on-screen drum kit. It's got a 3.2 megapixel cam, full touch display, and for the impatient among us, the best news might be that it's available today -- yes, today -- for $79.99 on contract after rebate.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/verizons-lg-chocolate-touch-skips-on-the-bl40-influence/">Verizon's LG Chocolate Touch skips on the BL40 influence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 09:15:00 EST. We've been able to confirm with a trusted source that LG's Chocolate Touch for Verizon -- which will end up being about as far from the sexy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> as possible, unfortunately -- is slated for a November 5 launch. With the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DROID/">DROID</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DroidEris/">Droid Eris</a> both launching in the same window, it's going to be tough for this puppy to get a word in edgewise, even though it's the latest model in a storied brand and really doesn't compete on any level with Verizon's Android devices. Then again, considering how far they've strayed from the BL40 with this one, we can't say we're feeling a ton of sympathy.<br />

LG's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BL20/">BL20</a> Chocolate -- the younger sibling of the insane <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> Chocolate Touch -- has recently been making a real splash around these parts. Ever since we got our hands on it, we've been wondering when we'd hear some official pricing and launch information, and the wait seems to be coming to an end. It looks like the slider is going to run in the neighborhood of about &euro;269, according to LG's own website, which has also thrown up a few never-before-seen shots of the handset. That's about all the news for now, but hit the read link to check out a few more snaps of this beauty, and be sure to have a gander at our own hands-on gallery below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/">LG BL20 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260195"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260192"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260191"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/28/lgs-bl20-chocolate-gets-official-with-269-price-tag/">LG's BL20 Chocolate gets official with €269 price tag</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 14:17:00 EST. LG's making good on its promise to <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/09/04/lg-bl40-chocolate-touch-coming-to-europe-this-month-everywhere/">ship</a> the stunning <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> in Europe this month, pairing up with Carphone Warehouse and its mobiles.co.uk division to offer the latest Chocolate through your choice of <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/category/O2/">O2</a> or <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/category/Orange/">Orange</a>. Pricing ranges from &pound;19.99 all the way up to &pound;129.99 ($33 to $211) depending on carrier and plan, but any way you roll, you're guaranteed to end with with one of the longest phones -- it's got a 21:9 display, after all -- that money can buy.<br />

For all its good looks and lickable icons, the BL40 hardly feels like a "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Chocolate/">Chocolate</a>" phone -- abandoning the featurephone functionality and slider form factors that are usually associated with the moniker. Well, the newly surfaced BL20 (previously spotted as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/16/lgs-other-black-label-the-bl42-slider-gets-exposed/">BL42</a>) is here to solve all that. The slider handset has capacitive touch controls below the screen, but the screen itself is not a touchscreen. The functionality has also been trimmed back from the BL40's app extravaganza, but the interface looks and actual hardware seem very similar. We had a little trouble getting around in the German interface, but if you can handle our bumblings you can check out a video of the phone after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/">LG BL20 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260195"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260192"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-bl20-hands-on/#2260191"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/bl20-hands-17_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/05/lg-bl20-hands-on-putting-the-slider-back-in-chocolate/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG BL20 hands-on: putting the 'slider' back in 'Chocolate'</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/05/lg-bl20-hands-on-putting-the-slider-back-in-chocolate/">LG BL20 hands-on: putting the 'slider' back in 'Chocolate'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 05 Sep 2009 07:04:00 EST. As much as we'd love to believe otherwise, our gut and Verizon's track record are both telling us that the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> probably bears no resemblance to the Chocolate Touch <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/09/03/lg-chocolate-touch-for-verizon-revealed/">that Big Red's about to get</a>. That doesn't mean LG's gorgeous mile-long slab isn't coming to North America, though -- we'd heard a long while back that it might be <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/bl40,telus">coming to Telus</a>, whose new HSPA network is <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/08/27/gsma-backpedals-changes-telus-hspa-launch-window-to-october/">currently slated for an October launch</a>. Coincidentally, fresh PR out of corporate reveals that the phone will be hitting "the rest of the world" in October following European kickoffs in the middle of this month, and if this isn't the perfect launch device for a brand new Canadian network, we really can't think what is. One way or another, LG says the phone will ultimately end up launching in 50 countries around the world -- so no matter where you are, you've got about a 1 in 4 chance you'll get a shot at this in the coming months without calling up your importer and taking out a second mortgage.<br />

Don't adjust your monitors, ladies and gentlemen: this is allegedly the upcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ChocolateTouch/">Chocolate Touch</a> for Verizon, and despite our most heartfelt hopes to the contrary, it couldn't possibly look <em>less</em> like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a>. We guess the crazy stylized back is pretty cool, but frankly, this design doesn't inspire any more emotion from us than a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/versa">Versa</a> -- and that's a big problem for a phone that's supposed to help properly rep LG's chic Black Label line in the US. Call us bonkers, but we're gonna go ahead and hold out hope that this is actually something other than the Chocolate Touch -- LG's always got a ton of hardware in the pipeline for Verizon, after all -- and foolishly believe that they'll still launch a totally authentic, unfettered version of the real deal this fall. Hey, it could happen, right?<br />

LG's latest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/blacklabel">Black Label</a> device, tastefully titled the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ChocolateTouch/">Chocolate Touch</a>, caused quite a few gasps and swoons around the <em>Engadget</em> mansion when it was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/13/lgs-next-gen-chocolate-bl40-teased-on-video-looks-good-enough/">first spotted</a>, and subsequent <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/29/lg-releases-first-official-shots-of-bl40-new-chocolate/">photo shoots</a> have not diminished our admiration. The gorgeous 4-inch, 21:9 display promises a whole new way to experience web browsing and video playback on a mobile phone, and we've been salivating for an opportunity to try it out. Finally, that day has come, so follow along as we get our fingerprints all over a final production sample, and bring you pictures, video and our thoughts on the functionality that lay behind that tempered glass screen.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">We know you've been saving up your Rubles for the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/lg-bl40-chocolate-touch-gets-the-hands-on-treatment-on-video/">LG BL40 Chocolate Touch</a>, but in the meantime we thought we'd hep you to this pretty extensive review they conducted over at <em>Mobile Review</em>. And sure, at first blush this thing seems to be extremely noteworthy: that 21:9 display, the S-Class UI, the haughty demeanor -- what's not to love? The real question, of course, isn't how attractive the handset is, but how will it fare in the real world? For the reviewer, a big sticking point was the phone's dimensions. This thing is huge -- at over 5-inches tall, you're going to need a purse (or some sort of rugged man purse) to haul it around. Then again, at 25,000 rubles (about $795) you're probably not the kind of man who feels self-conscious about carrying a purse. And that isn't the only complication this form factor provides -- the extreme width (or really, extreme lack of height) means that, in landscape mode, the QWERTY keyboard takes up pretty much the entire screen, leaving you only one line of text to work with. And the display quality here can't compare to the AMOLED offered by Samsung. It's "pleasant," the reviewer said, "but nothing more." But there <em>is</em> more to this review, which can be found at the read link. And you know what? It's a real page turner.<br />

We've heard about a good number of these phones were bound for Verizon Wireless already, but if this leaked doc via <em>Boy Genius Report</em> is to be believed, we now have a much better idea when they should be within reach of consumer hands. First up is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/16/verizon-ponies-up-to-google-for-premature-samsung-rogue-ad/">Samsung Rogue</a> for sometime this month (we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/08/lg-chocolate-touch-and-samsung-omnia-2-slated-for-august-23rd-a/">previously heard today</a>, but that's looking very doubtful at this point) for an estimated $370 subsidized. Next on the calendar is the "female centric" Nokia Twist 7705 in late September for $230, which more likely than not is the swiveling device we've seen on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/nokias-swiveling-wonder-for-verizon-passes-fcc/ ">two prior</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/13/nokia-making-a-crazy-sidekick-esque-phone-for-verizon/ ">occasions</a>. Also due out next month is the Samsung <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Intensity/">Intensity</a> for $130 (screenshot after the break). LG Chocolate Touch was rumored by Best Buy for today, but here it's listed for an October debut, along with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Storm2/">Storm 2</a>, a "low cost QWERTY" HTC Razzle / Blitz 2 (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/27/htcs-xv6175-for-verizon-outed-in-render-form/">XV6175</a>, perhaps?), and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MotorolaSholes/">Motorola Sholes</a> "Google Phone," <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/31/motorola-sholes-android-phone-for-verizon-appears-in-the-flesh/">red D-pad</a> likely in tow, all with TBD price tags. Rounding out the list in late November is the BlackBerry Curve 2, which we wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/29/blackberry-8530-naturally-coming-to-verizon/">8530</a>. The first one expected for public is the Rogue, replacing the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/samsungs-e-ink-texting-alias-2-now-on-sale-at-verizon-wireless/">Alias 2</a> that just launched back in May. We've heard about a good number of these phones were bound for Verizon Wireless already, but if this leaked doc via <em>Boy Genius Report</em> is to be believed, we now have a much better idea when they should be within reach of consumer hands. First up is <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/08/16/verizon-ponies-up-to-google-for-premature-samsung-rogue-ad/">Samsung Rogue</a> for sometime this month (we <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/08/08/lg-chocolate-touch-and-samsung-omnia-2-slated-for-august-23rd-a/">previously heard today</a>, but that's looking very doubtful at this point) for an estimated $370 subsidized. Next on the calendar is the "female centric" Nokia Twist 7705 in late September for $230, which more likely than not is the swiveling device we've seen on <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/05/14/nokias-swiveling-wonder-for-verizon-passes-fcc/ ">two prior</a> <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/04/13/nokia-making-a-crazy-sidekick-esque-phone-for-verizon/ ">occasions</a>. We've still got our hopes up for an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/08/lg-chocolate-touch-and-samsung-omnia-2-slated-for-august-23rd-a/">August 23rd launch date</a>, but in the meantime we do have a, well, <em>tasty</em> video of LG's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bl40">BL40 Chocolate Touch</a> to tide us over. As you might have guessed, the UI is of the 3D <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s-class">S-Class</a> variety. The accelerometer looks pretty snappy, and watching video seems to be a joy on the 4-inch, 21:9 display. Of course, we could give you a scene-by-scene recap, but we'd hate to spoil this Oscar-worthy production for you. Every so often, we come across a gadget (or five) that's so offensive, so absurd that we simply can't help but stick it in our back pocket and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Crapgadget/">show it to the general public</a>. Today, we're rounding up the worst of the worst once again, proving that there literally is no end to the spewing of gadget-related garbage that comes from unknown caverns in undisclosed corners of the universe. We mean, just <em>listen</em> to these products: "fried eggs night light," "Bic lighter spy camera," "hungry caterpillar USB hub," and "half-eaten chocolate mouse." Does those even <em>sound</em> like kit that any partially sane individual would purchase? No, no it doesn't. Have a gander while shaking your head furiously below, and feel free to drop a vote for the king of the crap while venting in comments below. Trust us, it's therapeutic.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/07/31/plastic-chocolate-mouse-ergonomics-zero-deliciousness-also-zero/">Read</a> - Half-eaten chocolate mouse<br /><a href="http://www.gadget4all.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00960">Read</a> - USB Penguin 4-Port Hub <br /><a href="http://www.gizfever.com/product_info.php?products_id=792">Read</a> - Fried Eggs Night Light<br /><a href="http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/07/20/brandos-fake-generic-lighter-spy-camera-camcorder/">Read</a> - Spy camera Bic lighter<br /><a href="http://usb.brando.com/usb-bulb-flash-drive_p01074c041d15.html">Read</a> - USB Bulb Flash Drive<br /><a href="http://www.geardiary.com/2009/07/21/usb-fevers-hungry-caterpillar-ate-my-usb-hub/">Read</a> - Hungry caterpillar USB hub<br /><br />

<div style="text-align: left; ">If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. According to this snapshot from Best Buy's computers, that's when LG's desirable <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bl40">BL40 Chocolate Touch</a> will be making its way into the consumer world, alongside a red Xenon and a bevy of Samsung phones including <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/omnia2">Omnia 2</a>, Rogue, and Solstice. No clue on what the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tour">Tour</a> is doing up there dated for the 23rd, since it's already out on both Verizon and Sprint, but perhaps a major shipment is in the works. As for that M330 for September 8th? Yeah, we're not sure. Surrounding that tantalizing list from the top and bottom, respectively, are Samsung's eco-conscious <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Reclaim/">Reclaim</a> -- presumably listed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/06/samsung-and-sprint-introduce-the-reclaim-a-cellphone-made-fro/">for August 16th</a>, although the date is obscured -- and a red and black "G2" from august 5th, which would undoubtedly be referring to T-Mobile's sophomore Android device, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/05/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-storming-retail-stores-today-for-199-99-on/">myTouch 3G</a>. Two weeks seem awfully close, but if this pans out, we certainly won't be arguing.</div>

If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. According to this snapshot from Best Buy's computers, that's when LG's desirable <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/bl40">BL40 Chocolate Touch</a> will be making its way into the consumer world, alongside a red Xenon and a bevy of Samsung phones including <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/omnia2">Omnia 2</a>, Rogue, and Solstice. No clue on what the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/tour">Tour</a> is doing up there dated for the 23rd, since it's already out on both Verizon and Sprint, but perhaps a major shipment is in the works. <ul>
<li>In addition to the BL40 and BL42, it looks like LG's upcoming Chocolate series is also going to include a lower-end BL20 according to a <a href="http://gsm.lge.com/html/gsm/BL20-3G-M6-D2CL.xml">newly-uncovered user agent profile</a>. Whatever it is, it's got a QVGA display -- a far cry from the epic 21:9 unit on the BL40. [Via <a href="http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/LG-BL20--the-new-Chocolate-gets-revealed-in-an-XML-file-article-a_6330.html">PhoneArena</a>]</li>
<li>Motorola's W562 candybar for China has <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mobile-review.com%2Fcgi-bin%2Fshow_comments.pl%3FnewsId%3D25545">broken cover</a>, and needless to say, you won't find any Android here. CDMA and a 2 megapixel camera, yes, but no Android.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/15/oh-by-the-way-july-14-2009/">More baby steps</a> are being taken in states' fights to jam phone signals in and around prisons. This time around, a Senate subcommittee has <a href="http://www.wirelessweek.com//News-Senate-Panel-Prison-Cell-Phone-Jamming-Bill-080609.aspx">sent a bill to the full Senate</a> that would allow individual states to plead their jamming case to the FCC, which -- as of right now, anyway -- seems pretty lukewarm to the idea in general. [Via <a href="http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=4676">Phone Scoop</a>]</li>
<li>Acer -- like Apple, Microsoft, Nokia, RIM, Palm, Google, LG, Samsung, and your cousin Ralph -- is <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/06/AR2009080603241.html">opening an app store</a>. It expects the store to be ready in the next few months as it ramps up the barrage of new WinMo devices it's been pimping over the course of the year. [Via <a href="http://www.phonemag.com/acer-plans-app-store-of-its-own-0810069.php">PHONE Magazine</a>]</li>
<li>South Korea's KT has <a href="http://www.telecomskorea.com/news/product/216-kt-confirms-iphone-release-in-korea">confirmed</a> that it'll carry the iPhone at some point, though it's refusing to spill details on exactly when or how that'll go down. SKT's apparently still in the mix, too, so we <em>could</em> end up without carrier exclusivity here. LG mentioned to us yesterday that there aren't any US plans in the cards for its lovely <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> New Chocolate -- at least, none that it wants to talk about, even though we've got to believe Verizon's <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/15/verizon-is-signed-up-for-an-lg-chocolate-4-but-is-it-anything/">cooking up some plans</a> -- but meanwhile there's still action on the North American front. A new variant of the BL40 dubbed BL40G ("G" for "gonna be awesome," obviously) has hit the FCC with HSPA enabled on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. You might recall that those bands were <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/17/lg-bl40-hits-fcc-with-us-3g-seemingly-disabled/">disabled on the last version the FCC checked out</a>, so if anything, <em>this</em> might be the version that Canada's Telus is signed up for to help it kick off its upcoming HSPA network launch. Remind us to start researching political asylum claims a little closer to launch.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/31/lg-bl40-passes-fcc-again-this-time-with-us-3g-very-much-enabled/">LG BL40 passes FCC again, this time with US 3G very much enabled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 31 Jul 2009 01:33:00 EST. We've already got a pile of evidence taller than the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/BL40/">BL40</a> itself that told us LG's latest <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/BlackLabel/">Black Label</a> device was that ultra-wide, glossy red and black slate we've seen floating around -- but now, for the very first time, it's totally official. The company has just released the first fully-revealed press photos of the phone that it's calling the "New Chocolate," an homage to one of the phones that brought it to the dominant industry position it enjoys today. So, is the BL40 going to help it continue that dominance? At a glance here, yeah, we'd say there's a pretty good chance.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-releases-first-official-shots-of-bl40-new-chocolate/">LG releases first official shots of BL40 "New Chocolate"</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-releases-first-official-shots-of-bl40-new-chocolate/#2174807"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/07/lg-bl40-800-num-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="lg-bl40-800-num-2" title="lg-bl40-800-num-2" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-releases-first-official-shots-of-bl40-new-chocolate/#2174808"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/07/lg-bl40-800-num-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="lg-bl40-800-num-3" title="lg-bl40-800-num-3" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lg-releases-first-official-shots-of-bl40-new-chocolate/#2174809"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2009/07/lg-bl40-800-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="lg-bl40-800-rm-eng" title="lg-bl40-800-rm-eng" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/29/lg-releases-first-official-shots-of-bl40-new-chocolate/">LG releases first official shots of BL40 "New Chocolate"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 22:53:00 EST. We'll admit, we're jealous of this <em>Sina Corporation</em> reporter, who appears to have gotten some hands-on time with LG's very sexy <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/bl40">Chocolate BL40</a> and its 21:9 aspect ratio screen. There isn't much said here aside from details we already knew and the occasional compliment on its form factor and display, but it is good to see this in the wild and not just in the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/17/lg-bl40-hits-fcc-with-us-3g-seemingly-disabled/">FCC</a>'s secret lab facilities. Now if only we can get a better idea of its <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/17/lg-bl40-hits-fcc-with-us-3g-seemingly-disabled/">US 3G capabilities</a>...<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/28/lg-bl40-caught-in-the-wild-given-brief-hands-on/">LG BL40 caught in the wild, given brief hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 28 Jul 2009 01:28:00 EST.
