Also on display from <i>EW</i> is this limited edition Bat Cowl packaging which will be available at launch. While there's not a full spec list, extras will include a Batmobile-focused documentary and more than a dozen featurettes about going behind the scenes of the movie with Christopher Nolan and his team. We expect to see more details soon, for now just check out the trailer embedded after the break.</p><p> <strong>Update</strong>: The press release with all the details and an image of the Blu-ray box art are out, posted by <em>TheHDRoom</em>. While it's not all listed on Amazon yet where the prices will likely be lower, the standard Blu-ray edition has an MSRP of $35.99, while the Bat Cowl Limited Edition's tag is $39.99. Additionally, fans can nab the whole trilogy in the <em>The Dark Knight Trilogy Limited Edition Giftset</em> which has a price of $52.99, although they might want to wait until 2013 when <em>The Dark Knight Trilogy Ultimate Collector's Edition</em> will arrive. Got all that? Check after the break for the list of extras plus the box art for both versions due this year.</p><p> <strong>Update 2</strong>: Check out the full press release after the break, including word about a The Dark Knight Rises app on iOS as well as Android for newer Samsung Galaxy devices. Already out on iOS as the Gotham City's most wanted app, it will add more photo modification and interactive features, and when the disc is released it will become a second screen app for use during the movie.</p>

Previous <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/batman,blu-ray?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">movies in the series have always delivered on Blu-ray</a>, as well as his other recent hit, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/06/inception-blu-ray-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><i>Inception</i></a>. Unfortunately the video maxes out at 480p, but we don't need any additional resolution to see the release date listed for both disc and digital download is December 3rd. Rumors have flown about different releases dates and possible extras like a director's cut, but recently sources have indicated no such extended offering is in the works. Whether you think the flick was long enough (or even too long), you can press play to check out the clip embedded after the break...and clear the first Monday in December on your calendar for a trilogy viewing marathon.</p><p> <strong>Update</strong>: The trailer has now disappeared from YouTube (trust us, you didn't miss much other than a quick "Blu-ray and digital download" tag at the end) along with the page sporting the 12/3 release date. We've slipped a screen grab in after the break, we'll let you know once there's some official information to go on.</p>

The new Chris Nolan Batman flick is still a year away from hitting theaters, but after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/27/pioneer-elite-hdtvs-to-ride-again-in-2011-as-rebranded-sharp/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><i>The Dark Knight</i></a> we're more than convinced it will be worth the wait whenever it comes home on Blu-ray. Warner Bros. posted the first teaser trailer for <i>The Dark Knight Rises</i> on Facebook today, hit the source link or look after the break to check it out. There's some glimpses of Bane and desperate words from Commissioner Gordon spliced up with the briefest of looks at Batman doing his thing,

After a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/02/roger-ebert-gives-3d-thumbs-down-shocking-headlines-two-thumbs/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">poor response</a> to the first <em>Clash of the Titans</em> movie and its substandard 3D effects, courtesy of a rushed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/08/what-it-takes-to-properly-convert-a-2d-movie-to-3d/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">conversion process</a>, you'd think they would never try that again, and you'd be wrong. Director Jonathan Liebesman, fresh off of <em>Battle:LA</em> is helming sequel <em>Wrath of the Titans</em> and says was talked into doing the conversion process again (but <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/08/13/james-cameron-piranha-3d-director-eli-roth-speak-up-in-support-of/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">shooting with that in mind, <em>Piranha 3D</em>-style</a>) on this flick by a series of demos including, Christopher Nolan's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/inception?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><em>Inception</em></a>. This is notable both because no 3D re-release has been announced for the visually engrossing flick, but also because Nolan himself has suggested 3D would be a bad choice due to the dimming effect of the glasses. Warner Bros. could only manage to tell <em>Cinematical </em>"At this time, the plans for <em>Inception</em> 3D cannot be confirmed," leaving the possibility of a return alongside <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/28/star-wars-flicks-to-see-3d-re-release-starting-with-episode-1-i/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><em>Star Wars</em></a>, <em>Titanic </em>and others to twist in the wind for now.

Online rentals and purchases of movies are still just a tiny fraction of the home video pie, but Warner's latest effort to expand that is similar to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/17/paramount-rolls-out-silverlight-enhanced-movies-for-windows-phon/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Paramount's recent efforts on Windows Phone 7</a> (Thanks <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/16/warner-packages-movies-as-ios-apps-starting-with-the-dark-knigh/#comment-149281405?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">SteveyAyo</a>), offering its highest profile flicks as apps for iPhones and iPads. <i><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/thedarkknight?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">The Dark Knight</a> </i>and <i><a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Inception</a> </i>are the first two releases out of the gate, offering free apps with some bonus content and the first five minutes of the movie, then charging $9.99 and $11.99, respectively to unlock the rest. According to Warner, it offers a different experience than simply purchasing the flick over iTunes because of the extras which include Twitter and Facebook integration among the extras, plus the ability to offer the digital version in countries where <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/itunes,movies/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iTunes doesn't sell movies yet</a>, like China, Brazil and the Netherlands. There's a video demo and press release after the break, but the downside of being locked to portable devices is keeping us from clicking the buy button for now, but if you could sprinkle some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultraviolet/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ultraviolet</a> on it, we might change our tune.<br />

The combination of Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros. added up to success in ratings and sales in 2008 with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/thedarkknight/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><em>The Dark Knight</em></a>, and now both return just in time for the holiday season with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/inception/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><em>Inception</em></a>. Already a hit in theaters, viewers have been waiting to get the disc home hoping the dreams still feel just as real. To that end, Warner's released a three disc set with 90 minutes of extras, so does it measure up to our (admittedly lofty) expectations? Check out the rest of our review after the break and find out. (Note: While we try to avoid spoilers, there are a few key ones, if you haven't seen the movie and want to remain untainted, please check the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/reviews/#/software/all/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">review card page</a> for our rating only.)<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-blu-ray-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Inception Blu-ray review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-blu-ray-review/3642068?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/12/inceptionoff10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-blu-ray-review/3642069?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/12/inceptionoff09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-blu-ray-review/3642070?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/12/inceptionoff08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-blu-ray-review/3642071?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/12/inceptionoff07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-blu-ray-review/3642072?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/12/inceptionoff06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>

For a moment it appeared that the sweet Limited Edition release of Christopher Nolan's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/13/inception-blu-ray-dated-for-december-7-with-90-minutes-of-extras/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><i>Inception </i>on Blu-ray</a> would be a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/inception-european-limited-edition-blu-ray-w-briefcase-listed/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">European only thing</a>, but Warner Bros. has made it available for US customers as well, exclusively via its WBShop.com website. Located by a few Blu-ray.com forum posters, it looks to have all the fixings, with art cards, totem, PASIV instruction manual and of course the metal briefcase itself with <i>Inception </i>Blu-ray and DVD held inside. Preorders are $49.95 and ship December 6, so don't forget to figure in overnight shipping.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-limited-edition-blu-ray/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Inception Limited Edition Blu-ray</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-limited-edition-blu-ray/3566575?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/11/inwbdvdbdbcl-1289583597_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-limited-edition-blu-ray/3566576?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/11/inwbdvdbdbc10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-limited-edition-blu-ray/3566577?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/11/inwbdvdbdbc08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/inception-limited-edition-blu-ray/3566578?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/hd.engadget.com/media/2010/11/inwbdvdbdbc06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>

Warner's finally seen fit to announce details for the US release of <em>Inception </em>on Blu-ray disc, due December 7. Our expectations are high, after the success of Christopher Nolan's last effort, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/thedarkknight?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><em>The Dark Knight</em></a> in sales and quality, and Inception's visuals and audio seem like a perfect fit for Blu-ray. Extras include a "Extraction Mode," likely similar to other Warner Maximum Movie modes where the director comes in and explains details in PiP, and a DTS-HD MA soundtrack. The sellsheet (after the break, along with the back of the box) for the $35.99 Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy combo pack promises more than 90 minutes of extras featuring the director and star Lenoardo DiCaprio, however right now it appears if you've been looking to obtain a briefcase like the one featured in the movie, you'll need to grab the European version and its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/inception-european-limited-edition-blu-ray-w-briefcase-listed/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">laundry list of collectibles</a>.

After <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/thedarkknight?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><em>The Dark Knight</em></a>, there's no doubt many Blu-ray fans can't wait to see Christopher Nolan's next blockbuster on their HDTVs, and now the <em>Inception </em>special edition has been listed for pre-order in the UK. Specs confirm Warner will include its Maximum Movie Mode where the director walks you through key moments of the film and two digital comics that serve as prologues to the film's events. The packaging itself is also special, with a case resembling the PASIV (Portable Automated Somnacin IntraVenous) device that controls dreams in the movie, a spinning top to remind you when things are over and of course, DVD and digital copy version. Play.com lists a December 6 release date, here's hoping the US gets a similarly full-featured treatment for one of this year's biggest movies.

<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IMAX/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">IMAX</a> has been around for years, while <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/3D/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">3D</a> is just now starting to really <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/28/can-3d-cinemas-really-take-off/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">infiltrate</a> the theater scene. Curiously, it looks as if 3D will have more of the alternate cinema market share than IMAX in no time flat, despite IMAX's tremendous advantage in launch time. Thanks to <em>The Dark Knight</em>, however, IMAX could receive that much-needed breath of life it has been waiting for. Director Christopher Nolan has reportedly stated that he'd like to shoot an entire film for IMAX, even though it would undoubtedly be down-converted for playback on traditional screens. He did admit that the noisiness of the camera could cause issues, but that's nothing a hard-working set pusher couldn't overcome. For those who viewed the latest installment of Batman in theaters, many were most captivated by the expansive IMAX sequences -- in fact, we'd be hard pressed to find someone who <em>wouldn't</em> want an entire film to look like that.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/12/08/christopher-nolan-wants-to-shoot-an-entire-movie-on-imax/">FirstShowing</a>]

Confirming earlier indications <em>The Dark Knight</em>'s <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/17/expect-the-dark-knights-imax-sequences-on-blu-ray/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">IMAX sequences</a> would remain largely intact -- full widescreen with the rest of the movie letterboxed --on Blu-ray, director Christopher Nolan pushed for Academy members to receive that version as a screener (why not give them a guided tour <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/the-dark-knight-blu-ray-to-kick-off-social-bd-live-features-for/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">via BD-Live</a>?), prompting Warner to mail them ahead of time offering the option of Blu-ray or DVD. The Hollywood Reporter mentions other studios are thinking about making the switch -- notably Sony regarding Will smith's upcoming <em>Seven Pounds</em> -- but haven't done anything yet, with concerns about cost and piracy. We wouldn't be surprised to see watermarking systems like the one Fox <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/fox-internet-video-now-with-watermarks-in-every-packet/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">recently adopted</a> come into widespread use, as much as studios want to avoid leaks they still want their productions seen in the absolute highest quality, right? Still, the first hurdle is making sure people can actually watch them, the report ends mentioning several members tossed the letter since they don't own a Blu-ray player yet.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEJK6NKL6BKfNM">MovieWeb</a>]

Enjoying the small clip of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IMAX/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">IMAX</a> <em>The Dark Knight</em> footage featured on the recent <em>Batman Begins</em> Blu-ray release? Even before the next flick hits theaters, director Christopher Nolan has already revealed plans to convert all the scenes shot for IMAX screens for use on the Blu-ray copy, whenever it hits shelves. Some cropping will be done to make everything fit but we'll still enjoy the extra detail in 1080p.
