The Xbox Marketplace currently has a placeholder for Combat Wings, but there is some curiosity over the listing. XBLAFans first took note of the addition, but it's unclear if this XBLA game is a spin-off of the formerly retail product, Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II, or a downloadable replacement after the game missed its March launch.City Interactive recently stated on its Facebook wall that the retail game had not been canceled, but was going digital instead. We were able to get in contact with the US representatives for the Polish publisher, but they needed to check with base camp before providing further clarification. We'll let you know as soon as we hear more.

Is it about aliens who inspire fear? Is it about aliens who are, themselves, afraid? Maybe it's about a new emotion that arrives from outer space? We don't know, but we'll find out in Alien Fear, a new Unreal Engine-based shooter coming to PSN (for PS3) and XBLA.Alien Fear is a downloadable FPS in which players control a "highly trained elite commando on a mission of sabotage," in single-player or co-op, with gameplay designed as a "sustained burst of arcade aggression." So ... yeah, maybe it is the aliens who are afraid.%Gallery-152143%

  • Enemy Front is a WWII shooter by Stuart Black, arriving in 2012

Stuart Black's "exciting new story-driven WWII shooter" will be called Enemy Front, publisher City Interactive announced today. The game will be powered by CryEngine 3 and will launch on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC with an expected 2012 release date. Hopefully, Enemy Front ends up having a happier legacy than Black's previous two high-profile projects: Black and Bodycount. Criterion Games kept on driving with car games after Black left the studio following Black's cool reception. And then there's Bodycount, which Black bailed on before production ended, and had a bodycount that included the game's reviews and the studio itself.

Do you like wings? Well, what about ghosts? How about those things with additional adjectives or nouns? We hope you fall in there somewhere, and so does City Interactive, who announced release dates for both Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 on Wednesday. No, we don't mean they're coming out on Wednesday. In fact, Combat Wings will grace you with its aerial, er, grace, next February -- on the 7th for the United States, and the 10th for Europe. Meanwhile, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, the followup to last year's critically something-or-othered release, will be available on March 16th in Europe and the 20th in the States.

Sure, you've had to wait to play Sniper: Ghost Warrior on your PS3 -- past the mid-2010 release on Xbox 360 and PC, and past the missed Q1 release date on PS3 -- but City Interactive's all-noun FPS is coming to the platform June 28, and it'll be available in an extra fancy version when it arrives. The Sniper: Ghost Warrior One Shot - One Kill Limited Edition, available only at GameStop for $50, packs the "One Shot-One Kill" DLC, a mode that allows players in single-player mode ten-second intervals of super-sniper powers. You'll be able to shoot through solid objects, do more damage, and hold your rifle extra still. The pack also includes a "Sniper Stories" book, a dog tag, a poster, and "production artwork postcards.

  • City Interactive showing off Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 at E3 2011

City Interactive has confirmed that its upcoming, CryEngine 3-powered sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior will finally see the light of day at the developer's booth during E3 2011. The game was one of two titles listed to be shown off in an E3 press invitation -- the other being the (possibly CryEngine 3-infused) flight combat sim, Combat Wings: Great Battles of WWII. Few details about Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 were revealed in the invitation -- only that the game will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and will allow players to "once again step into the ghillie suit of a special ops sniper to take down the enemy." We're obviously psyched about this development, because there are few words on this planet more fun to say than ghillie. Ghillie. Ghillllieeeee.

City Interactive has announced that the combined PC and Xbox 360 sales of Sniper: Ghost Warrior have crested a million units. The feat took seven months to accomplish, though the numbers certainly aren't shabby considering Sniper is City Interactive's first Xbox 360 title. A PlayStation 3 version is slated to arrive later this year. A sequel, being built on CryEngine 3, was announced in January. City Interactive plans to bring the title to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

City Interactive has announced what we believe to be its second first-person shooter to use CryEngine 3: a sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior. We say "second" because the developer announced last month that it was working with Stuart Black to create an "exciting new story-driven WWII shooter," which doesn't sound like the more modern, stealthy Ghost Warrior. At that time, it also said it had licensed CryEngine 3 for two games. Producer Michal Sroczynski revealed the plans for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 in an interview with Eurogamer.se. He didn't have much else to say about it, except that it will be released on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. We're kind of hoping for more nouns in the title -- we like the ring of "Sniper: Ghost Warrior Cowboy Boxer Cop Wolfman," ourselves.

  • Stuart Black now at City Interactive, working on a 'story-driven WWII shooter'

We're noticing a trend here. Stuart Black comes to a studio, helps to get a shooter off the ground, then silently vanishes into the night as he heads off to help the next studio in need -- at least, that's what we'd like to imagine happens, as the prominent designer of Criterion's Black now has a new gig at City Interactive working on yet another shooter. Evidence points to a game running CryEngine 3, as the company recently licensed the engine for two first-person shooters it's currently developing. According to Gamasutra, Black will head up a studio in London and work on what he calls an "exciting new story-driven WWII shooter" that will "emphasize high adventure in a genre that's become bogged down in reverence and historical accuracy." Hey, you're totally preaching to the choir, bud! Why, if we had a nickel for how many times the facts got in the way, we'd be millionaires right now and not -- uh, well, Dollar Menunaires.

It looks like the surprising success of Sniper: Ghost Warrior on Xbox 360 has led developer City Interactive to port it to PS3. The game will arrive on Sony's console early next year, during the first quarter. This newest version of the game will include all of the updates (and presumably DLC) released for the PC and Xbox versions, plus several additions. Notably, Sniper for PS3 will sport improved graphics, more single-player missions, extra multiplayer modes and maps, two new sniper rifles and a new single-player challenge mission.

  • Shutter Island game adaptation for DS rated by ESRB, OFLC

The upcoming Shutter Island game for Nintendo DS didn't get announced with a press release and a bunch of hoopla. It just calmly strolled onto the Entertainment Software Ratings Board website (and Australia's OFLC as well), just like our man Leo strolled off that boat in the film upon which the game is based. While the Aussie board description only reveals that the game is being published by City Interactive, the ESRB description details it as a "seek-and-find puzzle" (read: hidden object) game. Players will take on the role of US Marshals exploring the movie's Shutter Island location where the "Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane" is housed. Aside from finding "clues/items among scenes of jumbled objects," players will interview hospital personnel and uncover patient files -- one of which is said to have a story about "the scalping of relatives for use as hats." So, not for kids then?

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior shipments upped following success

City Interactive is increasing shipments of Sniper: Ghost Warrior following the game's unexpected success in the UK. The game premiered two weeks ago at fifth place on Chart-Track's Xbox 360 chart and tenth on the All Formats chart, dipping four spots last week. Not bad for the developer's first major title. MCV reports that City Interactive CEO Marek Tyminski stated, "We are extremely pleased with the reception Sniper: Ghost Warrior has received." Tyminski is likely talking about the game's financial success and not its critical reception. The game currently has a Metacritic score of 55 and 45 on the PC and Xbox 360, respectively. %Gallery-87697%

  • Hold your breath for Sniper: Ghost Warrior patch

City Interactive has announced that a patch is headed to its recently released sneaky shooter, Sniper: Ghost Warrior. The patch is set to fix some GUI problems -- including multiplayer stats -- and will also fix some multiplayer bugs, like the ability to run outside the map. Multiplayer will also see the "Increased ability" for a player to hold his breath. Perhaps most importantly, the patch will fix a crashing issue on the PC version. The patch is expected to arrive for both the Xbox and PC version of Sniper within the next two weeks. See the patch notes after the break.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior is the first Xbox 360 game to be published by City Interactive. It's a first-person military shooter being released on a platform absolutely inundated with similar games. At first glance, it would be easy to discount the title and assume it's nothing more than an attempt to capitalize on a very popular genre. Thankfully, the game does a few things to set it apart from the Modern Warfares and the Battlefields, namely an emphasis on stealth and sniping finesse. %Gallery-87697%

We're not a hard blog to please. Send us some screens and some video, perhaps a trailer that has a badass guitar solo screeching throughout, and you've won us over. That's exactly what's going on in the Sniper: Ghost Warrior multiplayer trailer above. Sure, there's a whole bunch of sniping to check out but, man, those licks! We just hope that music doesn't play in-game, because we probably won't be able to kill anyone while we're busy headbanging with our leather bracelet and denim vest on. Accompanying the finger-melting trailer after the break is a bounty of new screens, so if you like your action a bit more still -- but just as violent -- hit up the gallery below. %Gallery-93064%

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior aiming for Xbox 360 & PC in 'Q2 2010'

click to zoom and enhance First of all, no, there isn't a better title for an FPS than "Sniper: Ghost Warrior." That's just a fact. Second of all, the game's coming from the makers of such gaming classics as Chicken Riot and I Love Beauty: Hollywood Makeover, so we expect nothing but the best from the just-announced title. Sniper: Ghost Warrior is the first Xbox 360 venture from Poland-based devs City Interactive, an idea the company says was born out of some recent television programming. "With all-new programming airing nationally on the History Channel and the Military Channel regarding the training of snipers and their missions, interest in the art of sniping has never been greater," VP of sales Lisa Rivera explains. The game is said to be centered around the assistance of rebels who are trying to overthrow "an aggressive and hostile military command" that has taken over the once-democratic (and fictional) nation of Isla Trueno. A handful of screens were released with the game's announcement this morning (which we've dropped into a gallery below), and if those tickle you pink then it'll interest you to know that the game's got a "Q2 2010" release window. %Gallery-87697%
