Back to the Future fans have waited with bated breath since Lego announced that it would soon rock their worlds with a fan-designed Cuusoo set, and now, we finally have a release date. On August 1st, Lego's Back to the Future Time Machine will go on sale for $34.99 from select retailers, but an extremely limited quantity can be found at San Diego Comic Con, going on right now. The set includes our favorite time travelers (complete with Marty McFly's cheeky grin and Doc Brown's gravity-defying mane) and a DeLorean that can be customized to resemble the three different models from the trilogy. We have to say . . . Legos are cool and all, but we're still holding out for a fully functional hoverboard.

Team BTTF has been pushing for months to get a Lego rendition of Back to the Future's AMC DeLorean as an official kit. Persistence pays off: Lego's Summer Review has approved the two-person group's project as its next Cuusoo set, both for its realistically affordable design and in response to the "massive appeal" fostered when geek culture took notice. While we don't know how closely the design will follow the templates created by M. Togami and Sakuretsu, it's safe to say there will be a brick-based (and sadly non-functional) Mr. Fusion in the mix. We'll have to wait until mid-2013 to buy a set for ourselves; that's arguably early when Back to the Future II won't take place for another two years.

Congratulations, everyone: If you read our post about the prototype Portal 2 Lego set and threw your vote on Cuusoo to have it become reality, you've succeeded. Go get yourself an ice cream sundae, champ. You deserve it.The Portal-themed Lego set has received 10,000 votes of support on Lego's crowd-sourced idea incubator, Cuusoo, and is now off to be examined by the proper authorities. A "Lego jury" will review the idea, building concept models and testing them for playability, safety and fit with the Lego brand. Lego's Cuusoo quarterly review begins in September and will include the Portal set and any others that reach 10,000 votes. Reviews can, we should warn you, take several months.

Minecrafters, commence running through the streets screaming "It's here!, It's here!" as Lego's homage to the world-building game is now available to buy. The Cuusoo-developed project features Steve, a Creeper and 480 bricks, including plenty of 1x1 tiles to recreate the pixelated landscape we know and love. It costs $35, with a proportion of the profits off to a charity of Lego's choosing -- enabling us to turn our attentions to getting Ladyada's workshop the 10,000 votes necessary to press it into production.

If 10,000 of you go and vote at Lego Cuusoo, we could soon have a Ladyada Lego Workshop. The concept, whipped up by Limor Fried and Phillip Torrone, was a direct response to the borderline offensive Lego Friends set that was marketed to young girls last year. The seemingly unnecessary line of pastel-hued bricks inspired Fried to hire renowned Lego artist Bruce Lowell to help create a set of blocks that told girls it was ok to aspire to more than good hair and gossipy friends. Ladyada's Workshop is an ABS celebration of hacking, tinkering, strong women and all things DIY. Now all that needs to happen is that enough of you head on over to the Cuusoo site when the set goes up for vote. Hit up the source link for more images of what could wind up being the very first Lego product based on a company that sells DIY electronics kits.

EVE Online players, have you ever wanted to bring your internet spaceships into the real world? Of course you have, but unfortunately we're still a ways away from interstellar travel, so for now you'll have to settle with the next best thing: LEGO! One particularly creative EVE Online player has posted a LEGO model of the game's Minmatar frigate, the Rifter, to the LEGO CUUSOO site. If the model garners 10,000 supporters on the CUUSOO site, it will be reviewed by LEGO for the possibility of being manufactured as an official LEGO product. While the licensing issues involved may make that prospect something of a pipe dream, it never hurts to try, right? So go and show your support and maybe someday you can own a LEGO internet spaceship of your very own.

The block-building stylings of Minecraft bears more than a passing resemblance that timesucking hobby from our childhood. Now Lego and Minecraft look set to symbolize their love of all things block-based in a forthcoming set. The idea was suggested through fan submission site, Lego Cuusoo, which offers the chance for new user-submitted building sets -- provided there's enough interest -- to reach retail. The Minecraft project is the latest to make it through, claiming over 10,000 supporters and managing to pass through the toy-maker's requirements. Lego is now readying a concept that "celebrates the best aspects of building with the Lego system and in Minecraft." We've been promised more details soon -- until then, we're getting back to the digitial mining.

Last month, Mojang submitted a Minecraft project on LEGO Cuusoo, a site that gives amateur LEGO artisans a shot at creating an official set of bricks. Said project managed to accrue the required 10,000 supporters in a matter of days and has since been under review by the fine people at LEGO. Until now, as the LEGO Cuusoo blog has revealed that the Minecraft project has passed the LEGO review, meaning it will become an official LEGO product. While the set isn't quite ready for primetime, LEGO Cuusoo notes that LEGO is "developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft." The site asks for patience, adding that "these things take time."Indeed, we don't envy the task of translating the vibrant world of Minecraft into a set of sparsely detailed square blocks.
