Marvel is auctioning props from its Netflix shows
The Netflix era of Marvel TV shows has drawn to a close, but that doesn't mean you'll have to walk away from it empty-handed... in fact, you might just own a piece of the shows themselves. Marvel and Prop Store are auctioning off props and costumes from Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist on August 12th through the 13th, with online bidding starting now. And no, these aren't just incidental objects that would require a freeze-frame to recognize. Many of them are major, instantly recognizable items that defined the shows.
Netflix and Disney cancel 'Daredevil' too
Last month Netflix announced two of the "Defenders" series it produces with Marvel and Netflix had come to an end, and now it's pulling the plug on Daredevil too. Season three debuted just a few weeks ago starring Charlie Cox as the blind hero protecting Hell's Kitchen, but that's it -- for now. In a statement, Netflix said "We're thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show's writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we're grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel." As Disney has ramped up development on its Disney+ service, the two sides haven't been able to come up with agreements to continue these series any longer. Still, there's a possibility Disney could turn around and introduce something for its network now. Meanwhile, Netflix is spending money in other areas, although once Disney+ launches in 2019 it will be interesting to see how it responds. Daredevil was the first Marvel/Netflix show to hit the service in 2015, and now only Jessica Jones and The Punisher are left. Hopefully we have a few more hallway fight scenes ahead of us before a (seemingly) inevitable end comes to them too.

Pop culture is in a state of mourning today. Stan Lee, the famous Marvel publisher, editor and writer, has died at the age of 95 after a spate of illnesses over the past year. To say that he had a significant impact on the media world would be an understatement -- the franchises he created (and helped create) are virtually ubiquitous in modern society, including in the digital realm.
Netflix cancels 'Marvel's Iron Fist' after two seasons
It has been nearly five years since Disney and Netflix teamed up to launch a suite of Marvel TV series based on characters in The Defenders, and after two seasons Iron Fist is ending its run. There's no word on whether or not the character will come to Disney's (name still TBA) streaming service when that launches, but Deadline reports what the companies said in a joint statement: "We're thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we've shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on." As it stands, Daredevil season three is set to premiere in a week, while additional seasons are on order for Jessica Jones and The Punisher. According to Deadline, Luke Cage is close to being renewed soon, so maybe we'll still see Jessica Henwick, Finn Jones and others from the series pop up there or in another Defenders team-up show.
'Daredevil' season 3 trailer ushers in the return of Wilson Fisk
Today, Netflix released the first official trailer for the third season of Marvel's Daredevil starring Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll. All thirteen episodes will be available worldwide starting October 19th.
What's coming to Netflix in October: 'Bodyguard' and 'Daredevil'
October was always going to be a packed month for new shows and movies on Netflix, with a litany of horror titles, and returns for Daredevil and Making a Murderer. Among the other Netflix original shows you'll be able to check out are BBC smash hit Bodyguard (October 24th), Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (weekly episodes start October 28th), drag queen reality series Dancing Queen and season two of Big Mouth (both October 5th).
'Daredevil' season three premieres October 19th
It's been a long, long wait for a third season of Daredevil, but it's very nearly here. Netflix has confirmed that the next installment of its landmark superhero show will debut October 19th. The teaser trailer is wonderfully cryptic, but makes clear that Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil) is tired of subduing evil only to watch it bounce back -- the only way to stop evil is to "finish it for good," he said. The teaser and accompanying tweet also make nods to Murdock's conflicted Catholicism, referencing Deuteronomy 30:15 ("see, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction").
'The Defenders' Comic-Con trailer features punching, heroes
Stop us if you've heard this one before: There's a threat facing New York, and a few of Marvel's punch-happy heroes need to clean it up. Based on the new trailer shown tonight at Comic-Con -- where, Deadline reports, Netflix screened the entire first episode -- the plot of every Netflix Marvel series so far will remain consistent with this eight episode The Defenders mini-series that arrives August 18th.
'The Defenders' trailer unites Netflix's Marvel universe
Five seasons of Netflix-Marvel goodness (or, in the case of Iron Fist, mediocrity) have all built up to this. Building on last month's teaser, Netflix has released the first full-blown trailer for The Defenders. Like The Avengers movies, the project is a culmination of many interlocking 'cinematic universe' ideas. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist -- all four TV shows stand on their own, but share characters, lore and the occasional cameo appearance that bind them together. The Defenders, a team-up of New York's street-level heroes, will prove whether Netflix can deliver such an ambitious, expensive crossover project in the streaming world.

Netflix has a healthy roster of Marvel shows at the moment with the likes of Iron Fist, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Those worlds are about to be consolidated, as the titular characters are set to team up for Netflix's The Defenders later this year. Today, we found out when exactly that's going to happen thanks to a cryptic teaser video.
Netflix previews 'Luke Cage' and more Marvel at Comic-Con
The San Diego Comic-Con is underway, and Netflix kicked things off with a few announcements about its various Marvel superhero series. Luke Cage is due September 30th, and its teaser trailer brings about a minute and a half of Mike Colter fighting bad guys in hallways. The Iron Fist series' release date is still TBA, but its trailer showed off a hint of what's to come there as well. Last but not least the preview for The Defenders leaves much more to the imagination but lets us know that as originally promised, Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist will team up to take on bad guys in 2017. Speaking of Daredevil, Netflix also confirmed that the Hell's Kitchen hero will get a third season which is "coming soon" -- check out all the videos below.
Netflix is giving the Punisher his own show
Shortly after The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal was tapped as the Punisher in season 2 of Marvel's Daredevil series, rumors circulated that the character would get its own show. Well, a few weeks after his debut, Netflix made the spin-off official. "The Punisher is back," a tweet making the announcement reads. "Locked and loaded."
Netflix reportedly rolls out support for HDR streaming (updated)
Earlier this year, Netflix said its near-future plans focused on HDR streaming and creating more original content. And now, according to multiple reports, Netflix has quietly rolled out support for high dynamic range video. Although it hasn't made an official announcement, an executive at the company confirmed the feature earlier today. "We are indeed live with HDR. It works with compatible TVs, both in HDR10 and Dolby Vision," Yann Lafargue, Netflix's manager of corporate communications said to FlatpanelsHD.

This week the annual NCAA men's basketball tournament begins, so it's time to prepare your bracket. Still, before the games get fully under way this weekend, Netflix has a loaded lineup with season two of its Daredevil Marvel series, Pee-Wee's Big Holiday and even season two of Happy Valley. Game of Thrones fans can pick up season five or Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine on Blu-ray, while gamers can look forward to UFC 2 or Pokken Tournament. I tried the former over the last week and still couldn't quite grasp the controls, but maybe you'll have an easier time.
