Upon hearing that Hudson's Deca Sporta would be coming to North America (and Europe)minus one a and plus one s, we were excited for a possible successor to the Wii Sports crown. We still have some time before we find out how good it is, but we're glad to report some new screens are up for your viewing pleasure. There's the usual beach volleyball, figure skating and racing on dirtbikes with our gallery below.%Gallery-7109%

Hudson's decathlon-themed, Adidastic minigame collection, Deca Sporta, was recently announced for Europe with the totally personality-free title of Sports Island. We were surprised, then, and pleased to hear that (most of) the original title will be used for the American release of the game, Deca Sports. The Wii audience has proved that they enjoy sports-based minigames, so if this is any good and is marketed at all, it could be one of the biggest games of 2008. We've updated our gallery with some new images from the game, which is due out in the summer -- the perfect time for, well, some of the featured sports. We've also posted the press release announcing the localized version after the break.%Gallery-7109%

Deca Sporta's site has updated with a new trailer featuring footage of all deca ten of its sportas. We're pretty excited about some more sports on the Wii, and Hudson has had experience designing small games for Nintendo systems. We think that if this game is any good at all, it could be more Wii Sports. But more than that, we're excited about Adidas products. The many products in Adidas's footwear and activewear lines are exactly what even casual athletes need to maintain a healthy, fun lifestyle. We wouldn't dream of even pretending to play Deca Sporta for a trailer without comfortable, stylish Adidas gear. If you'd like to check out Adidas's products, you can do so from home with the convenient Shop Adidas website.Adidas.

  • Deca Sporta coming to Europe in mid-2008 with new, uninspiring name

Deca Sporta might have been a fairly neutral title for a sports game, basically conveying nothing but the fact that there are ten sports in the game, but it makes the game sound action-packed compared to the name that Hudson is using for Europe: Sports Island. If this is the name that came out of the contest, we are disappointed with you all.We guess Sports Island lends the game a feeling of friendly play rather than intense sports competition, but along those lines it also lends a feeling of yawn and snooze. Sports Island: The Island Where Sports Go On Vacation. The characters are totally adorable, though. So there's that. We've loaded up our Deca Sporta gallery with a bunch of new screens! Sports Island will be out in PAL Continent (well, Europe -- we don't know about Australia) in Q2 of next year.%Gallery-7109%[Via NeoGAF]

Hudson's Wii Sports clone (or wannabe sequel, depending on how you look at it) Deca Sporta will be making its way to North America. If compilations of 10 different sports minigames is your sort of thing, then Hudson's title might be right up your alley. Based on what we've seen, the plethora of minigames available within are varied and, most important of all, look fun.%Gallery-7109%[Via Siliconera]

So far, with the exception of basketball, everything we've seen from Hudson Soft's Deca Sporta is meant to be played outdoors under the glow of the summer sun. That's not all there is to the game, however -- the latest updates have revealed the colder side of the minigame collection. In both a recent Shonen Jump and official shots from the developer, they've revealed curling, figure skating, and snowboard cross, bringing the total of known games up to the magic number: ten! Things are looking good graphically, there's a wide range of games included, and Deca Sporta is set to debut in Japan this December. The only thing left we could ask for is a release date outside Japan -- and we hope to hear about that soon.%Gallery-7109%

  • Sports to the power of ten

We're not sure about the idea that everything in Deca Sporta is controlled through simply shaking the remote -- maybe that's a shaky translation? -- but we do know that the screens from the title are looking pretty spiffy. It's all about the details here: the depressions in the sand, the clarity of the audience members in the closer basketball shots, and the rippling ad-banners. For such a simple style, things are shaping up quite nicely. You'll have to head over to Nintendic to check out the shots for yourself (and mind those enormous watermarks clogging up the works), but we think it might be worth the trip. [Via NeoGAF]

Hudson Soft followed on the heels of the recent magazine articles with the official Deca Sporta website, complete with some of the screens we saw in scanned versions. And it looks like reader grubout had sharper eyes than we did -- the game we assumed was tennis is actually badminton. Maybe Hudson is trying to avoid stepping too heavily on Nintendo's toes with this one. The site doesn't have much in the way of content yet, but we can't help but admit we're looking forward to this one. Wii Sports was just plain fun, and we'd love to see something comparable-yet-expanded.[Thanks, Doug!]
