We're sometimes a little sad that the joy of gathering with family and friends 'round the photo album has been reduced to the shallow act of pasting a link into a text field, so we're always intrigued when some gadget designer finds an interesting way to bring us back to something physical. The Stamp.y from designer Jinhee Kim certainly does that in an interesting way -- but perhaps not an entirely practical one. It's a digital camera with a very unusual shape and design allowing it to act as a rubber stamp. Take your picture through the proboscis-shaped lens, pop off the back, dab it on the handy ink pad, and then stamp that picture onto whatever you like. We think this would be huge in schools as a great way for kids to decorate their book covers, but physical textbooks will surely be a thing of the past before this becomes a reality.

It's hard to argue that Windows Phone 7 Series' Metro UI concept isn't utterly unique in the mobile world, but it was wasn't the only option Microsoft considered -- far from it, in fact. The company has published a bunch a design concepts it churned through on its wild, wacky journey to finalizing Metro as we know it today, and one thing's for certain: they'd clearly planned on simple, square lines, partially-obscured typography, and in-your-face colors pretty much from day one. After careful consideration of everything they've got here, we still think we like the production design best, but that's kind of besides the point -- why, pray tell, couldn't these have just been user-selectable themes?

Designer Seokwon Hong's Brix mobile phone concept looks to be the stuff of dreams, but we'd welcome it today with arms wide open. This innovative idea sees a mobile with a screen covering all of the front real estate feature the ability to connect with other Brix, the two then become one as the screens merge content. The idea behind it while simple, offers up endless fun scenarios for use: from gaming nights with friends -- you'll need a lot of Brix-toting friends, of course, and it'll have to support some type of input -- to family events for pic sharing, and the like. When devices are connected a temporary shared content folder is created until your break them apart, alternatively one device can be set as the control or hub device. We've seen countless concept devices, but this is one of the first to really stand out with excellent real-world possibilities. Job very well done! We're lining up for review samples -- we think a minimum of ten should be good -- today.[Via Sci FI Tech]
