Good, because the latest news published in <em>Nature</em> is that diamonds are a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/quantumcomputing">quantum computer</a>'s best friend -- particularly if they're flawed. An international team of scientists sought out sub-atomic impurities in a 1mm-thick fragment of over-priced carbon and used these as qubits to perform successful calculations. A "rogue" nitrogen nucleus provided one qubit, while a free electron became a second. Unlike previous attempts at solid-state quantum computing, this new effort used an extra technique to protect the system from decoherence errors: microwave pulses were fired at the electron qubit to "time-reverse" inconsistencies in its spinning motion. Don't fully get it? Us neither. In any case, it probably won't stop jewellers tut-tutting to themselves.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/07/flawed-diamonds-are-perfect-ingredients-for-quantum-computing-j/">Flawed diamonds are perfect ingredients for quantum computing, just add time travel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Apr 2012 06:08:00 EST. What the world needs now is just one thing, and that thing is a bejeweled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HelloKitty/">Hello Kitty</a> laptop. Fortunately, Japan's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MouseComputer/">Mouse Computer</a> is well aware of this, which is why it's unleashed the LuvBook S, pictured above. Designed in collaboration with Sanrio and Swarovski, this masterpiece is powered by a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i3-2330M processor and boasts an 11.6-inch, 1,366 x 768 display. It also packs a 500GB HDD and a 1.3 megapixel camera, but all that really matters is the swaggy centerpiece -- a heart-ensconced Hello Kitty mug made out of about 1,100 Swarovski stones and untold buckets of cuddles. The LuvBook is available now for &yen;69,930 (about $900), at the source link below.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/26/mouse-computers-luvbook-s-heals-emotional-scars-one-hello-kitt/">Mouse Computer's LuvBook S heals emotional scars, one Hello Kitty at a time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 26 Nov 2011 03:50:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/computer+choppers/">Computer Choppers'</a> latest luxury overhaul is about as Cribs-worthy a laptop as we've ever laid our hard-working eyes on. Just like this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/06/the-24-carat-gold-macbook-pro-with-diamond-studded-apple-logo/">24-carat stunner</a> before it, the shiny setup gives something a little extra to that Apple logo, by way of Marilyn's favorite gems, but sets itself apart with the addition of a rather unexciting paisley pattern. If you're the type who flushes hundos, though, you can ditch the paisleys for your very own custom design. As is often the case with these things, the price isn't listed, but frankly, we'd hold out until they replace those black plastic chiclets with something fit for the Diamond Princess.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/24-carat-gold-macbook-pro/">24-carat gold MacBook Pro</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/24-carat-gold-macbook-pro/#4511928"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/graphic-plating1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/24-carat-gold-macbook-pro/#4511930"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/graphic-plating2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/24-carat-gold-macbook-pro/#4511932"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/graphic-plating3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/24-carat-gold-macbook-pro/#4511933"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/graphic-plating4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/24-carat-gold-macbook-pro/#4511935"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/graphic-plating5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/iced-out-24-carat-gold-macbook-pro-proves-diamonds-are-an-apple/">Iced out 24-carat gold MacBook Pro proves diamonds are an Apple's best friend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 05:31:00 EST. If you thought Kim Kardashian's engagement ring was a ridiculous rock, you haven't seen the ludicrously <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/15/gresso-flaunts-30-000-white-iphone-4-holds-more-ice-than-a-ska/">large diamond</a> planet, J1719-1438. Scientists at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne recently spotted this celestial body that's so dense, it's believed to be crystalline carbon -- i.e. a ginormous diamond similar in size to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/05/nasas-solar-powered-juno-mission-heads-to-jupiter-today-orbite/">Jupiter</a>. Since the '60s, astrophysicists like Marc Kuchner have theorized that carbon-heavy stars can burn out, crystallize and form diamonds under the right pressure. Supporting the idea, a white dwarf star spotted in 1992, BPM 37093, had cooled and crystallized over the course of 12 years -- even copping the nickname "Lucy" after the Beatles jam. Although astronomers in Australia, Britain and Hawaii have all identified the newly spotted precious planet J1719-1438, they are still unsure if the crystallized carbon rock will be all sparkly mountains up close -- dashing the hopes and dreams of material girls everywhere.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/28/iced-out-diamond-planet-catches-astronomers-eyes/">Iced-out diamond planet catches astronomers' eyes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 00:17:00 EST. Sure, you probably waited longer than you should have to get the elusive <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/27/white-iphone-4-releases-tomorrow-finally/">white iPhone 4</a>. But, you know what's better than a boring regular model? One with diamonds, crystals and pearls... of course! Known for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/gresso-gussies-up-iphone-4-with-rare-wooden-veneer/">ridiculous</a> custom mobile devices, Gresso may force you to refinance your house <em>and</em> hock a kidney to afford its latest creation, the Lady Blanche. A solid diamond-coated mineral glass backing, three independent Swiss clocks and pearl dials replace the usual body on this iced-out iPhone. If the $30k diamond model is a bit out of your price range, the much more affordable <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/swarovski/">Swarovski</a> crystal version will only set you back 7,000 bones. Release details are unclear at this point, but when they drop you better act fast -- only 150 of these gems will be available. Heck, if you have that kind of cash lying around, just get the salesman to throw in one of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/29/gresso-classies-up-the-ipad-with-18k-gold-logo-and-ancient-wood/">these</a> for your iPad, too.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/15/gresso-flaunts-30-000-white-iphone-4-holds-more-ice-than-a-ska/">Gresso flaunts $30,000 white iPhone 4, holds more ice than a skating rink</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 09:45:00 EST. It may not feature GPS, an accelerometer, or even a camera, but if you've run out of disposable items to encrust with jewels, then Vertu's Precious -- the latest revision to its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/28/vertu-finally-prepping-3g-signature/">aging Signature lineup</a> -- may be the mobile phone for you. While its basic array of quadband GSM, 2100 / 850 MHz 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi may seem a touch modest, varieties come slathered in platinum, three types of gold (yellow, white and red), leather, ceramic, and enough jewels to make Her Majesty blush. Its face, known as the "sea of sapphire," is mostly obscured (save for the OLED display), but you high rollers can take comfort knowing it spent more than two weeks in a 2000&deg;C oven to appease your discerning taste. Also hidden are 4.75 carats of ruby bearings, which are said to give the keys a frictionless, satisfying click. The ring tones are exclusive compositions by Dario Marianelli and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra -- though we were bigger fans before they sold out. For a quick glimpse of how the Precious comes together gem by gem, just follow the break. There's no word on pricing or availability, but if you're considering putting up your first born as collateral, you might want to reconsider this cringe-worthy creation.<br />

If you're the type of person who has 99 problems, a satisfactory wristwatch being one, feast your lustful eyes on this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/diamond/">diamond</a>-encrusted abomination. ZShock has managed to work its magic -- $18,000 worth, to be precise -- on a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/18/tiktok-and-lunatik-ipod-nano-watch-kits-look-awesome-despite-ke/">Lunatik iPod nano watch</a>, with the end result being something that we'd hardly recommend being caught dead with. Of course, those who'd disagree vehemently are going to need a magic number in order to procure one, but those who are just curious can peek the source link below for a bit of wrist-on action. Temper that jealously, though.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/02/diamond-encrusted-lunatik-ipod-nano-watch-is-as-superfluous-as-i/">Diamond-encrusted Lunatik iPod nano watch is as superfluous as it sounds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 02 Apr 2011 08:46:00 EST. We've already established that if you're filthy rich, you probably don't want the same cell phone as common folk. No, if you're looking for something higher end, you'll probably end up talking to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/StuartHughes/">Stuart Hughes</a>, who customizes electronics by plating them in gold and diamonds. We've already seen his work on a $20,000 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone4/">iPhone 4</a>, but his latest achievement is downright ridiculous. Called the "world's most expensive phone" (we'll see how long that lasts), Hughes made two identical models for an Australian client. Each handset includes over 500 diamonds and totals over 100 karats, and comes in its own special granite box. Its total cost is &pound;5 million -- nearly 8 million dollars. Just don't bother crying when you leave it on the seat of a cab.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/stuart-hughes-strikes-again-with-worlds-most-expensive-diamond/">Stuart Hughes strikes again with world's most expensive, diamond covered iPhone 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 11:39:00 EST. At last, a sign that we're advancing from our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/22/mac-portable-gets-a-20th-anniversary-vivisection/">caveman heritage</a> into a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/ikeas-kitchen-of-the-future-3d-food-printing-mood-lighting-v/">brave new world</a>. Gone are the days of rough-hewn blades, the world of modernity does its cutting with "plasma-sharpened" implements polished off with a layer of synthetic, industrial-grade diamonds. Okay, we're not <em>quite</em> there yet, but we're en route, thanks to a small German outfit named GFD, which has recently debuted a diamond-tipped, tungsten carbide razor blade that promises to retain its sharpness 1,000 times as long as regular steel and to be precise enough to slice a human hair in half. Hell, that latter bit isn't even a promise, it's a fact, which you can verify in the video after the break. GFD is looking for a manufacturing partner to bring this ingenious prototype to market, and given its years of experience applying the technology to industrial uses, we reckon it has enough of a pedigree to stand a decent chance of success.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/18/diamaze-diamond-tipped-razor-blades-can-literally-split-hairs-v/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Diamaze diamond-tipped razor blades can literally split hairs (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/18/diamaze-diamond-tipped-razor-blades-can-literally-split-hairs-v/">Diamaze diamond-tipped razor blades can literally split hairs (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 10:06:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Looking for something a bit more eye-catching than a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/product/iphone-4">iPhone 4</a> with a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/gresso-gussies-up-iphone-4-with-rare-wooden-veneer/">wooden veneer</a>? Then it looks like you can once again thank <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/stuarthughes">Stuart Hughes</a> for throwing any subtlety to the wind and going all out with the so-called iPhone 4 Diamond Edition. As you can see, not only does the phone pack a smattering of diamonds (including a bedazzled Apple logo), but it's a white iPhone 4 (32GB, naturally), and unlocked for good measure. Of course, there's no guarantees you'll actually get it before white iPhone 4s become commonplace, but we're pretty sure this is $20,000 well spent either way.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/05/iphone-4-diamond-edition-white-unlocked-and-20k/">iPhone 4 Diamond Edition: white, unlocked, and $20k</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 05 Jul 2010 15:21:00 EST. It's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gold%2Capple">that time again</a>, the time when excess ruins a perfectly functional device. Get ready for some buyer's remorse if you're one of the thousands who <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/12/ipad-pre-order-is-go-will-you-buy-one/">pre-ordered an iPad</a> last Friday: your soon-to-be new toy already pales in comparison to the $19,999 diamond-coated iPad from Mervis Diamond Importers. What you have here is a stock unit of undisclosed specifications that's been coated with 11.43 carats of G/H color diamonds rated VS2/SI1 for clarity -- not exactly top-shelf stuff but chances are you'll be so transfixed with the amazingly beautiful user experience you won't notice the flaws. This poor iPad is just the latest in a long line of ridiculously expensive gadgets made more luxurious (many of an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/27/iphone-3gs-supreme-is-diamond-encrusted-spectacularly-expensive/">Apple</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/10/deos-offers-up-60-000-diamond-encrusted-ipod-earphone-covers/">persuasion</a>) and is every bit as tasteless as the rest.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/15/worlds-first-diamond-ipad-tries-to-deliver-that-magical-experie/">World's first diamond iPad tries to deliver that magical experience</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 15 Mar 2010 07:08:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/stuarthughes">Stuart Hughes</a> aficionados take note. The luxury bedazzler is now back with an entry-level alternative to its $3.2 million <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/27/iphone-3gs-supreme-is-diamond-encrusted-spectacularly-expensive/">iPhone 3GS Supreme</a>. Of course, the new Nokia Supreme will still set you back a suitably ridiculous &pound;99,995 (or $160k), which will get you a <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/nokia8800">Nokia 8800</a> encrusted with 12.5 cts of pink diamonds, some handmade veneers made from 83 grams of platinum, a navigation button topped off with a single 3 ct diamond, and the usual granite box to store it in. Only three have been made, but it looks like today's your lucky day -- it's still in stock.</div>

Three have been made and were done so reportedly over the span of six months. Asking price is &pound;299,995, or about $484,818 in US dollars, which if you go by <em>Kotaku's</em> admittedly untrained estimations is about $200,000 in raw materials and the rest in labor / profit. The only to make this sound reasonable is if we compared it alongside a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/27/iphone-3gs-supreme-is-diamond-encrusted-spectacularly-expensive/">$3.2 million iPhone 3GS</a>, and what do ya know, that was also a Stuart Hughes creation. We're gonna take a stab in the dark and say that <em>Wii Sports</em> is not included.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/nintendo-wii-supreme-is-topped-with-a-layer-of-gold-sprinkled-w/">Nintendo Wii Supreme is topped with a layer of gold, sprinkled with diamonds, and priced at £300,000</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 18 Dec 2009 02:17:00 EST. Seeing as how the iPhone's exclusivity status <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/iphone-to-be-sold-by-tesco-in-the-uk-hemorrhages-cachet/">has been slipping</a>, it was inevitable that the bourgeoisie would invent a new way to distinguish themselves from the lowly masses. Enter a designer by the name of Stuart Hughes, already expertly familiar with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/10/the-solid-gold-vertu-boucheron-150-makes-us-hate-humanity/">slapping precious metals</a> onto <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/06/gold-and-diamond-covered-michael-jackson-phone-fashionably-late/">slightly less precious</a> mobile phones. He classes up a 3GS handset with a 22 carat solid gold body, which he then sprinkles with no less than 190 diamonds. And just to make sure none of the riff raff can get their hands on it, this creation is priced at &pound;1.92 million ($3.2 million), which places it precisely &pound;1.92 million outside our budget. Completing the, erm, value proposition is a storage chest cut from a single block of granite, which you may peep after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/27/iphone-3gs-supreme-is-diamond-encrusted-spectacularly-expensive/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPhone 3GS Supreme is diamond encrusted, spectacularly expensive</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/27/iphone-3gs-supreme-is-diamond-encrusted-spectacularly-expensive/">iPhone 3GS Supreme is diamond encrusted, spectacularly expensive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 27 Nov 2009 03:53:00 EST. Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/e71/">E71</a> looks perfectly elegant in its Espoo-sourced attire, but there's nothing that can't be made more gorgeous / gaudy with diamonds. It's sort of baffling that Verizon Wireless has <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/26/verizon-training-schedule-hints-at-blackberry-storm-touch-diam/">yet to launch</a> HTC's now aged <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/11/verizon-tidbits-versa-touch-diamond-pearl-8230-and-more/">Touch Diamond</a>, and honestly, we're not even sure that late is better than never in this scenario. While Sprint has had the thing out for a good while now, Big Red has been lallygagging around while staring aimlessly at those spectacular BlackBerry Storm sales figures. Now, <em>phoneArena</em> has it that the XV6950 could finally be arriving on the carrier's airwaves next month, and while it has yet to be confirmed, we're hearing that it shouldn't vary from the Sprint edition in terms of specs -- something that conflicts with information <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/comments/13533849/">we heard</a> about a century ago. At any rate, we'd ask you to just be patient here, but chances are you're already over this thing, anyway.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/07/touch-diamond-xv6950-finally-hitting-verizon-next-month/">Touch Diamond XV6950 finally hitting Verizon next month?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Mar 2009 12:12:00 EST. <div align="left">While scavenging for pricey handsets to hang on the gilded walls at the Mansion, we luckily bumped into one Alexander Amosu, of <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Amosu/">Amosu</a> fame. The Amosu brand is synonymous with gold, encrusted and dripping with gemstones, and most of all, pricey. In his bag of tricks we found three fully-kitted BlackBerry Bolds, a pink iPhone, and an iced Motorola Aura. If you've been eying something a touch larger than Samsung's 61-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/23/samsungs-61-inch-hl61a650-rptv-hdtv-reviewed/">HL61A650</a>, why not consider Mitsubishi's WD-65835? The 65-inch Diamond series set was overshadowed by the altogether more intriguing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/28/mitsubishis-6-999-65-inch-laservue-hdtv-now-hitting-retailers/">LaserVue</a> when it was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/mitsubishi-intros-slew-of-hdtvs-says-laservue-is-coming-in-q3/">introduced this Spring</a>, but there's still a lot here worth loving. The surprisingly lightweight set was found to have accurate colors, "convincingly deep blacks" and a "bright, punchy, dimensional image," all of which sound characteristically Mitsu. Truth be told, critics had a tough time knocking the image quality at all under real-world scenarios, noting that its "exceptional contrast and solid blacks" easily trumped all but a few flat-panels. Last we heard from Cellular South, it was making waves by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/26/cellular-south-wants-you-so-bad-itll-pay-your-early-terminatio/">offering to pay early termination charges</a> in order to hook new subscribers. Now, it's trying to lure even more paying customers in with the launch of the HTC Touch Diamond. The carrier, which serves much of Mississippi and portions of surrounding states, is now offering the touchscreen-based handset for $199.99 on a 2-year agreement, or if you're not really down with a data plan, it'll cost you a stiff $449.99. We're also told that a few new service plans have emerged, with family plans starting at $50 and packing in 700 to 1,400 nationwide minutes along with unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling with other CS users. Also of note, the Total Unlimited plan includes unlimited talk, text, mobile web and email for $80 / $100 per month for featurephones / smartphones.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=3678">phonescoop</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/cellular-south-hosts-htc-touch-diamond-for-199-99/">Cellular South hosts HTC Touch Diamond for $199.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 16:38:00 EST. We've definitely seen more expensive <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/10/deos-offers-up-60-000-diamond-encrusted-ipod-earphone-covers/">earphone covers</a> in our day, but these are certainly amongst the most pricey 'buds out there. A single set of these Casa Gi-designed earbuds are currently being sold in Bristol for &pound;3,499 ($5,253), and all that money goes towards 59 diamonds (per bud) and an 18-carat gold coating. Quite frankly, we tend to feel that these are pretty garish, but we've no doubt whatsoever that <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/11/10/131k-softbank-823sh-tiffany-handset-sells-out-in-three-days/">someone</a>, somewhere will make the trip over and snatch 'em up. 'Course, we can't say how long they'll remain safely lodged in the owners ears given the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/29/british-govt-to-hit-up-apple-sony-for-crime-resistant-gadgets/">gadget crime rate</a> in Britain, but we get the feeling these won't really be used for casual listening, anyway.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/19253/20277/casa-gi-pound3500-expensive-earphones.phtml">Pocket-lint</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/18/gilded-diamond-encrusted-earphones-go-for-3-499/">Gilded, diamond-encrusted earphones go for £3,499</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 08:15:00 EST. The long, agonizing wait for Alltel to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/touch-diamond-release-on-alltel-looks-imminent/">come clean</a> with this gem is over. Starting today, subscribers can phone up the carrier with questions about the Touch Diamond and receive a response other than "Whatcha talkin' 'bout Willis?" 'Course, it's no shock whatsoever to see this Windows Mobile 6.1-based handset surface on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/04/fcc-approves-verizons-alltel-buy-deal-all-but-done/">soon-to-be-Verizon's network</a>, but those who've been waiting patiently will be utterly stoked to know that you can now plop down $249.99 (after all rebates and a 2-year agreement) in order to take one home.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/alltel/" rel="tag">Alltel</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/14/htc-touch-diamond-pops-official-on-alltels-site/">HTC Touch Diamond pops official on Alltel's site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 18:05:00 EST. Recession? What <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/economy/">recession</a>? While many in this world are grumbling about a so-called weakened economy, at least eight individuals aren't hurtin' at all. Or, at least they aren't acting like it. Make no mistake, this whole "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/26/economic-madness-could-hurt-handset-sales-sales-of-everything-e/">economic crisis</a>" deal isn't affecting everyone, and we've all ideas the limited run of this here handset will be claimed in no time flat. Via a partnership between Japan's Softbank Mobile and New York's Tiffany &amp; Co, just ten of the Softbank 823SH Tiffany mobiles will be made available for those with the requisite cash. Aside from making / receiving calls, this obscenely luxurious device will boast 537 diamonds representing a total weight of 18.34 carats. The pain? Just &yen;13 million, or slightly north of $131,000. Say, wonder if they'll throw in a car charger if you buy two?<br /><br />[Thanks, Marko]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/culture/" rel="tag">Culture</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/softbank-mobile/" rel="tag">Softbank Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/01/softbank-823sh-tiffany-537-diamonds-for-131k/">Softbank 823SH Tiffany: 537 diamonds for $131k</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 01 Nov 2008 18:37:00 EST. It's an HTC Touch Diamond. And it's white. Must be a white HTC Touch Diamond! Right <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/16/htcs-touch-diamond-coming-in-white/">on cue</a>, HTC's lavishly colored Touch Diamond has surfaced in the wild, and reportedly, it'll be on sale soon in the Netherlands (among other places). We're also directed to an interesting "Pimp My Diamond" website, which will seemingly enable any Touch Diamond owner to snap on a new shell to fit their mood. Wait, does that mean the white one isn't so special anymore? Let's do a quick recap, shall we? So we pretty much know everything there is to know about Verizon's forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/storm">BlackBerry Storm</a> save for the price and release date, and so far as we can tell, Verizon's version of the Touch Diamond is still expected to be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/">totally underpowered</a> compared to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/">Sprint's iteration</a>. Now that we've rounded the tables, let's have a look at this image above. This here is Verizon's internal training schedule, and given that employees have to complete their Storm courses before November 2nd and their Touch Diamond courses before December 3rd, we'd say you now have a pretty good idea of when these two will be landing. Hey VZW -- think you could make that "Blocking Features Assessment" available to the public? We're guessing it'd be a real hit.<br /><br />[Thanks, Anonymous]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/misc/" rel="tag">Misc</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/26/verizon-training-schedule-hints-at-blackberry-storm-touch-diam/">Verizon training schedule hints at BlackBerry Storm / Touch Diamond release dates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 12:22:00 EST. If you're jazzed about the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchDiamond/">Touch Diamond</a>, but have a thing for albino devices, a Danish site may have unearthed just what you're looking for. <div align="left">You know you love it, new Windows Mobile -- even new carrier is good enough for us -- hardware always gets us all thrilled and chirpy. Sprint's really blown it open today with the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/sprint-launches-htc-touch-diamond-and-pro-into-officialdom/">announcements</a>, so to honor them we got our hands on the Touch diamond. We like this set, Sprint's version in red -- a well chosen, soft and kind red -- is no exception and while a bit husky, we expect it's going to be well accepted and will be finding its way into many pockets come September 14th. Sadly, the Touch Pro was absent at CTIA, but we'll do our best to dig it up before the show closes out. Enjoy the pics.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/">Hands-on with Sprint's Touch Diamond</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/#1029363"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/sprint-touch-diamond-ctia-00_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/#1029377"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/sprint-touch-diamond-ctia-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/#1029364"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/sprint-touch-diamond-ctia-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/#1029365"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/sprint-touch-diamond-ctia-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/#1029375"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgetmobile.com/media/2008/09/sprint-touch-diamond-ctia-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /></div>

From the looks of it, Sprint has gone and gotten a decent chunk of its playbook leaked all over the interblogs, and it's chock-full of titillating information. Thanks to slippery fingers and loose lips, we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/">already knew</a> that the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro were headed to the carrier, but now we have some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/02/htc-report-says-touch-diamond-is-coming-to-sprint-this-month/">solid dates</a> (mid-September for the Diamond, October 19th for the Pro), and pricing ($549.99 and $579.99 unsubsidized, $249.99 and $320 with contract). Of course, this is all according to the above document, which admittedly could be the work of an extremely bored Photoshopper -- but this jibes <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/htcs-raphael-and-diamond-coming-to-sprint-and-looking-good/">pretty tightly</a> with a lot of other chatter we've been hearing.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/31/leaked-sprint-roadmap-reveals-touch-pro-touch-diamond-dates-and/">Leaked Sprint roadmap reveals Touch Pro, Touch Diamond dates and pricing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 31 Aug 2008 13:31:00 EST. Given that just about every high-end handset on the market has a diamond-encrusted <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/05/amosus-diamond-encrusted-nokia-n95-tempts-the-affluent/">cousin</a> out there <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/19/peter-aloisson-gives-nokia-8800-a-131-000-diamond-studded-makeo/">somewhere</a>, it was only a matter of time before Apple's latest got its own stupidly expensive sibling. Knalihs Anthem is offering up 50 iPhone 3Gs with over 475 diamonds weighing 3.75 carats in total. Each mobile will be bundled with all the appropriate paperwork certifying the gems, and while the first ten units will go for a cool $10,000 apiece, the other 40 will be priced in due time. So, any guesses as to whether pricing shoots up or down?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.luxurylaunches.com/gadgets/diamond_encrusted_iphone_3g_designed_by_knalihs_athem.php">Luxury Launches</a>, thanks Yogesh]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/26/diamond-clad-iphone-3g-arrives-no-one-at-all-surprised/">Diamond-clad iPhone 3G arrives, no one at all surprised</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 26 Aug 2008 17:07:00 EST. Maria Sharapova has already had her greatness <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/13/peepin-the-maria-sharapova-razr/">spread over</a> a number of Motorola <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/15/maria-sharapovas-motorola-m1000-sold-for-7-500-usd/">handsets</a>, but now the tennis queen is partnering up with long-time associate Canon in order to make five lucky individuals extraordinarily happy. As part of an elaborate marketing scheme, Canon and Maria (but mostly Canon) are cranking up a contest in which five Canon <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/16/canons-powershot-sd1100-is-gets-reviewed/">PowerShot SD1100 IS</a>'s are given away. But these aren't just <em>any</em> SD1100 ISs -- these are <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/18/canon-to-auction-10-diamond-clad-digital-elphs-for-the-red-cross/">diamond-encrusted</a> editions worth around $12,000 apiece. No word on whether Maria will actually touch the cameras before they're shipped out, but a boy can dream.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.luxist.com/2008/08/17/maria-sharapova-and-canon-to-give-away-diamond-cameras/">Luxist</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/21/maria-sharapova-and-canon-to-give-away-diamond-clad-sd1100-iss/">Maria Sharapova and Canon to give away diamond-clad SD1100 ISs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 17:31:00 EST.
