All Zombies Must Die!, Doublesix's spiritual successor to Burn Zombie Burn!, will finally shamble onto PC March 12.The Steam version addresses specific feedback from the console version like "zombie swarming," by adding a new "treacle" mechanic, which will allow players to wade through otherwise impassible zombie crowds. Also, the gate-quest structure has been tweaked to allow a better flow to the game.Doublesix claims to have "trimmed the fat" and "spruced up the core mechanics." A good way to make room for more brains and tasty meat for zombies.%Gallery-149522%

  • Star Trek - Who Wants To Be A Millionaire boldly going everywhere but America

All right, here's where we admit something vaguely shameful about ourselves. Deep Silver announced a PSN/XBLA game that combines Who Wants to Be a Millionaire trivia gameplay with a Star Trek: The Original Series theme -- and we were totally into it. We like the idea of a specific, safe venue for us to feel good about knowing a bunch of stuff about Star Trek. You can choose from one of four avatars, including Uhura, a Vulcan officer, a Starfleet cadet, or an Orion slave girl, and "phone-a-friend" to a Star Trek character.Alas, we won't get to satisfy our blood fever in the field of trivia combat. But you might! Star Trek: The Original Series - Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will be available in February "to fans worldwide except North America, Canada and Mexico." Ironically, we would be unable to play it if we were in Starfleet's San Francisco headquarters.%Gallery-145276%

  • All Zombies Must Die! launching on XBLA, PSN this month; PC thereafter

Doublesix's All Zombies Must Die!, the "spiritual successor" to Burn Zombie Burn!, will be available later this month on consoles. A representative for Doublesix tells us the XBLA and PSN versions will launch simultaneously, with PC coming "a bit later." This is a slight alteration from the original launch plans in July, which had the XBLA version hitting later. For the sake of clarification, All Zombies Must Die! has nothing to do with Orcs Must Die! nor Shoot Many Robots!. However, we're seeing an opening for violence-free titles that sound like action commands. Examples: Cuddle Many Puppies! and Kittens Must Nuzzle!.

Doublesix games, developers of the manic Burn Zombie Burn! and the upcoming All Zombies Must Die!, are confronting threats from the void with Strike Suit Zero. The interstellar arcade shooter, which totally has a ship that transforms into a robot, features spacecrafts created by mechanical design engineer Junji Okubo (Appleseed: Ex Machina, Steel Battalion) and music from award-winning sound designer Paul Ruskay (Homeworld). Strike Suit Zero has players taking control of the transforming spacecraft during Earth's final hours, with the player's actions apparently having an effect on their path through the game's branching mission structure. Details are very scarce, but we should learn more next week when the title is presented at Germany's Gamescom. It's currently set to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC sometime in Q1 2012.%Gallery-130233%

Burn Zombie Burn! wasn't a clear enough directive, so developer Doublesix will release All Zombies Must Die! in the fourth quarter of 2011. All Zombies Must Die! -- which, despite the similar name, has nothing to do with Orcs Must Die! -- is a "spiritual successor" to Burn Zombie Burn!, featuring light RPG elements and "weapons-based arena combat." The game will initially launch on PlayStation Network and Steam, with plans for the Xbox 360 version to be revealed shortly. Doublesix has created kitty, bunny and doggy announcement trailers (gotta hit them demographics!). Check out cats above, the rest after the break. %Gallery-129321%

We're getting closer and closer to a PC launch of Burn Zombie Burn, the dual-stick shooter from Doublesix. Currently available on PSN, the game will be available for download on Steam in early August, according to the developer. Burn Zombie Burn places players in the shoes of Bruce, whose date with sweetheart Daisy is ruined one night by a pack of hungry undead. The PC version of the game adds a new Extreme difficulty and Survival mode, the latter of which pits Bruce against relentless waves of the undead.

Let's get this out of the way: I've never seen Top Gun nor Days of Thunder. I know, I know -- I'll turn my Man Card in at the door. The point I'm trying to make is: If there are in-jokes or sly references in either game, I wouldn't notice. That said, Paramount Digital has recruited Jack Epps Jr., screenwriter of both films, so the company certainly seems serious about fan service. Setting aside their cultural significance -- emphasis on "cult" -- what I saw were two simple, playable arcade experiences. %Gallery-96036%

Doublesix's twin-stick shooter Burn Zombie Burn is spreading like a zombie-fueled wildfire. Following the appearance of a PC version of the game on the ESRB database, Doublesix studio head James Brooksby confirmed plans for the release to Big Download. The title was originally developed as a PS3-exclusive, with assistance from Sony's Pub Fund. There's no definite release date, but the PC port will be distributed on Steam sometime in the next couple of months. As a rather nice bonus, the PC edition should include all of the PS3 version's DLC add-ons.

One Burn Zombie Burn! player will be able to go off on a rather romantic trip with a friend to see the sights of Europe. Doublesix is going to take the top scorer of the "Secret Lab" level of the PSN game to Paris, where they'll spend three nights at the Aida Opera Hotel and visit the Catacombs of Paris and Pere Lachaise Cemetery. After the French expedition, the winner will be sent to the Mercure Hotel in Luxor, Egypt, to spend five days touring the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple (pictured). It's a once-in-a-lifetime trip made up exclusively with the sights of the undead. The contest begins on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and will last through Monday, Nov. 2. Good luck, if you decide to enter.

Though the PS3 Firmware Update 3.00 failed to bring about the grand, sweeping changes that most of us are waiting for, it's apparently been a boon for PSN developers. In an interview with GamesIndustry, Doublesix claimed that sales for Burn Zombie Burn jumped 40 percent following the update -- largely due to the fact that the downloadable title was featured in the What's New section, which is now the first thing that appears when the PS3 is turned on. According to Doublesix studio head James Brooksby, the PS3 start-up screen has always had a "40 inch advertising space waiting to be used," and that the introduction of the What's New menu is "a major step forward for the entire industry and the digital distribution sector." Obviously, Brooksby completely overlooked the true highlight of the console's latest update: The sparkles. Oh God, the sparkles!

PlayStation Home is getting another themed space, this time promoting the recently PSN exclusive Burn Zombie Burn. According to doublesix senior games designer Ollie Barder, the BZB Home space will a feature a maze populated with brain-munching zombies and will be placed within a graveyard, so players can frolic with the undead. Bigger than that, BZB is getting a dose of DLC with two new levels taking place in space (it's the final frontier, by the way). Release information or price for the DLC was not revealed. Check out a trailer of the new alien abduction-themed levels after the break.

Rock Player Rock! Kuju and doublesix have released a patch for the PSN-exclusive Burn Zombie Burn! enabling in-game custom soundtracks via music stored on the PS3's hard disk. This update also draws on Sony's development libraries to integrate video recording and uploading to YouTube into the game. (We're still scratching our braaaaains over why more developers haven't done this.)Boot up the game and the patch will automagically install itself, along with a trailer for the game's upcoming expansion, Burn Zombie Burn! In Space. We're guessing the action takes place inside of spaceships or space stations, since, despite decades of movies and TV shows teaching us otherwise, fire doesn't exactly do so well in a vacuum.

  • Burn Zombie Burn dev praises PSN for allowing closer consumer communication

Open for nearly two years at this point, Kuju-owned, digital distribution-focused doublesix studios has begun to get a foothold in the burgeoning digital landscape. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz this week, studio head James Brooksby said he and his studio prefer the direct consumer communication offered when working with the PlayStation Network over Microsoft's Xbox Live."We listened to what people were saying and ... it will have features that people have asked for ... [when] we do our first expansion pack [it'll be] actually tailored according to what people are looking for," Brooksby said, noting, in his work with XBLA on the upcoming Southpark game, that Microsoft handles the community communication all by it's lonesome. "We're developing it for them and it's their relationship to take to the consumer and carry on," Brooksby says of the company. Though considering the recent closing of Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog, we're betting that relationship will fall more into the hands of the developer/publisher as time moves forward.

March 26 will be the day when Burn Zombie Burn! unleashes total carnage and lets us smash zombies in yet another training simulator preparing us for the imminent apocalypse. The arcade shooter is the latest game from British-based Kuju's downloadable game studio, doublesix. BZB is set "across six classic American-horror movie inspired levels," with gameplay that'll instantly remind folks of classic arcade quarter guzzlers like Total Carnage and Smash TV. Get a better idea of the zombie hoard you'll be facing off against by checking out the video after the break.

Doublesix has today announced a new upcoming PSN game called Burn Zombie Burn. Available in early Q1 2009, Burn Zombie Burn is a cartoony arcade shooter which sees you, Bruce, fighting off the undead masses. The emphasis seems to be placed on building up a high score (as all arcade games should). Multipliers are achieved for setting zombies on fire, but doing so also makes them run faster. The game will have several different game modes, lots of weapons, eight different types of zombies and two-player co-op and versus modes. No indication as to whether these will be online or offline, though. Doublesix has sought to create addictive, "just one more go" gameplay coupled with funny zombie humor. We'll no doubt see more of the game before its release early next year.

  • Joystiq Interview: Kuju's download-only studio doublesix

We admit that the opening of a new studio is not the most terribly exciting event under the sun, but that news becomes decidedly more intriguing when said studio dedicates itself to a single market, or in the case of British developer Kuju's newly opened doublesix studio, a single distribution channel. With a moniker always referred to in lowercase, we expected doublesix to be quietly reserved regarding its plans, which include developing titles exclusively in the downloadable space for Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, WiiWare and the PC. What we found, however, was a studio that is enthusiastic about its positioning in this young, but rapidly growing segment of the video game industry. To find out more, we managed to speak with doublesix studio head James Brooksby on a number of topics, including the price of downloadable games today and in the future, the importance of platform exclusives in the digital space, and of course, where the team likes to eat.

With the popularity of downloadable games for consoles continuing to grow, and money flowing through the game space like wine, it's no wonder that companies have begun to invest heavily in securing their slice of the currency pie. The latest to do so is British-based Battalion Wars dev Kuju, which today announced the founding of a new branch dedicated to creating new titles specifically for Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, WiiWare and the PC. Adopting the moniker doublesix, studio head James Brooksby says the name "embodies what we're about...rolling a double six is about having another go." No titles have yet been announced as in development at doublesix, though the company notes that its focus is on games that are "quick to pick up and hard to put down," which we admit is a sensible direction given that the Guildford-based team also worked on Geometry Wars: Galaxies and the PSN shooter Nucleus.
