When Bandai Namco said Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was coming in early 2020, it was clearly being conservative. The action RPG is now slated to punch its way to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on January 17th. On top of that, completists should be happy -- the game will include the Majin Buu story arc on top of other adventures. Needless to say, the game will be a who's-who of Dragon Ball with must-see characters like Goku, Frieza and Vegeta.

If you've been jonesing for a Dragon Ball Z game that wasn't a straight-up 2D fighter, you're in luck. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (formerly Dragon Ball Project Z) is coming to the Xbox One and PC sometime in early 2020. There aren't many details available in the initial trailer, but you can clearly see the cel-shaded look, a variety of combat, familiar characters and screaming... lots of screaming. In other words, it's probably what you were looking for if you were already a fan of Goku, Vegeta and crew.

Anime icon Goku may be the hero of the Dragon Ball universe, but in Dragon Ball Xenoverse, that responsibility falls to you. Developer Dimps and publisher Bandai Namco are crafting a new storyline that allows players to insert themselves into Dragon Ball Z history by creating a custom character that travels through time to help the many spiky-haired warriors. Goku and crew won't just be cowering in a corner and waiting for you to save them, though. By becoming an apprentice to one of the Z Warriors, you'll be able to learn their moves, as well as unlock their costumes. Of course, if you want the authentic experience, you'll also be able to take control of the original characters in other modes. Our scouters have revealed a trailer showcasing the title's features, which you can check out after the break:

We're just going to assume someone has been working for years to collect Dragon Balls, summoned the dragon, and then used their one wish to resurrect the Dragon Ball Z Budokai games in high definition. That's absolutely the most plausible explanation for the Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection, coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe this winter. The collection comprises Budokai and ... Budokai 3, leaving out Budokai 2 and about five hundred other DBZ Budokai fighters.

We're not even ashamed to admit we're excited about "DragonballZ Kinect," an unannounced game rated by Korea's Game Ratings Board. Usual Dragon Ball Z game publisher Bandai Namco is listed as the publisher for this game. It's not hard to imagine a Kinect-based Dragon Ball Z game, all yelling into the microphone to "power up" your character, making wild flailing motions to throw Kamehameha Waves and Spirit Bombs at smirking, airborne jerks with tall hair, and maybe even walking in place to pantomime the destructive stomps of a crazed space gorilla.Whatever we imagine this game includes, the real thing's going to be so much goofier. We can't wait to find out.

Two new games in longtime Namco Bandai anime franchise series are on the way. People who either love Naruto or love CyberConnect2's brand of cinematic fighting will be delighted to hear that a new Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm game is on the way next year, called Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations. The PS3/Xbox 360 game includes a "number of playable and support characters far beyond any Naruto game" and promises some kind of updated online functionality. In other Namco anime license news, the game formerly known as "Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011" has been named by fan feedback. Proving that they fear change, the community decided upon "Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi" for the new fighter, which is coming out on Xbox 360 and PS3 October 25.%Gallery-127534%

Both Namco Bandai Europe and USA sent out this teaser trailer for the Xbox 360 and PS3 game it's currently calling "Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011," indicating that the latest DBZ-based game will be localized in both regions. Though we have to wait until Japan Expo (June 30-July 3) to learn more about the game, we can now see lots of footage of cel-shaded, spiky-haired Saiyans flying around, teleporting into behind-the-back punch combos and dueling with Kamehameha waves. In other words, it's a Dragon Ball Z game.%Gallery-123434%

According to Japanese blog Tale Tale Source (as translated by Andriasang), the upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Jump includes an announcement of a new entry in Namco Bandai's Dragon Ball fighter series. The game, which is (assumedly tentatively) titled Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011, is reported to focus on "3D fighting action," a blanket descriptor which could easily apply to the many Budokais which have come before it. The blog also mentions that the magazine lists Dragon Ball Game Project Age 2011 for a Fall 2011 release in Japan on Xbox 360 and PS3. We'll keep an ear to the ground for any news about the title and its American launch plans. Considering how loud those Dragon Ball guys yell, we don't think it's going to be too hard to hear.

Click to make with the embiggening "Will there ever be new Dragon Ball games?," you begged. "Will they be sequels?," you cried. Namco Bandai has heard your pleas, Dragon Ball fans. There will be more Dragon Ball games after all! One of them is even a sequel. Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 is set to fill that Goku-shaped void in your PS3 or Xbox 360 with 20 more characters than the first Raging Blast. That and a "new Raging Soul System which enables characters to reach a special state, increasing their combat abilities to the ultimate level." Yes, they can power up. Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team is a fighting game for PSP featuring four-player simultaneous Ad Hoc battles. Both are due "this fall." Hang in there! %Gallery-92799% %Gallery-92798%

If there's one thing Dragon Ball has, it's a giant, sprawling cast of unique characters. Namco Bandai understands this, so it will be offering new downloadable characters for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast every two weeks from now until April of 2010. Best of all, the downloads will be free. Each pack will include "customized versions of popular characters, each with different powered-up abilities." In other words, if the initial lineup of characters just wasn't enough, soon you'll have remixed versions on top of the current cast. Check out the full DLC schedule after the break. Unless otherwise noted, the DLC will release simultaneously on XBLM and PSN.

You know what? We're done making fun of Dragon Ball Z on Joystiq. We always end up doing so much research just to pull a joke off that the only ones who get it are the ones whose feelings we hurt. It's a sucker's game and besides that, it's just mean. So we're just going to tell you, without judgment, that Dragon Ball: Raging Blast has a demo that's now available on Xbox Live, and that it's a perfect way to kill time until the babysitter finishes heating up your Pizza Rolls. ... Shit.

Namco Bandai knows you can only continue to flog the equine corpse of Naruto and Dragon Ball Z so many times before it gets excessive. But rather than bring in new flog-ees, it's welcomed three new floggers to help run its North American operation. The company has just added former Codie Catherin Fowler, former 2K exec Graeme Bayless and Atari honcho Robert Stevenson to executive positions between which neither you nor we appreciate the distinction. All said they looked forward to being blasted on forums as "somehow less respectful of the art of anime than 4Kids." And that's saying something.

Attention Dragon Ball fans, we have some news that will probably make all kinds of sense to you. Daizex.com noticed reports of new games set in the Dragon Ball universe for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3. First up, French site Wiiz.fr has magazine scans showing off a new Wii game based on the original Dragon Ball series, apparently entitled Dragon Ball World: Big Adventure, a 2D/3D affair in which Son Goku (who?) faces the Red Ribbon Army (whatever that is).Meanwhile, Xbox Evolved reports that a new Dragon Ball Z game is on the way for Xbox 360 and PS3 entitled Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast. Daizex.com suspects that the game is more closely related to something called Sparking! than Burst Limit. Sparking!, evidently, is the Japanese name for the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Or something. We don't really understand anything else, but we're sure it's all very exciting.

Avoiding the obvious solution of gravity training, the original Dragonball Z TV series is getting remastered for HD, in honor of its 20th anniversary. According to this Shonen Jump scan, the reworked episodes will begin airing in Japan April 5, with footage extended (we're hoping that doesn't mean stretched, it doesn't seem like it) for 16x9 displays, with remastered sound effects and, where available, re-dubbed vocals by the original cast. The remastered edition will only consist of 100 episodes or so, but we're sure DBZ fans are already preparing to import this one on Blu-ray.[Via OKP]

  • Namco Bandai profits take a dip in Q109

It's time for Namco Bandai to bring out the katamari and roll up some loose change, as profits dipped 63% from the same quarter last year. GI.biz reports the company went from making $26 million in profit during Q108 to making only $9.2 million in Q109. The video game section of the company was the only division to see growth at 3.8% this quarter. Much of Namco's sales this period came from Europe and Asia, with Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 selling 420,000 units in the former territory. Japan brought sales with Taiko Drum Master and Tales of Symphonia at 260,000 and 215,000 units, respectively. The company expects sales to pick up over the year, but has already forecast a 31% drop in profits for the full year. Hey, at least they're just making less profit and not sending cash into the ether like Midway.

PS3 software topped the charts in Japan this week, thanks to the release of Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit. It's amazing to see that, years after the end of the series, the dedication to this popular manga/anime goes strong. Although this brawler is multiplatform, you wouldn't be able to tell from this week's top 10 software charts. It'll be interesting to see what they look like next week, when Metal Gear Solid 4 reigns terror upon the charts.
