The show floor finally opened up here in Vegas today, and just as we knew they would, the product announcements are flowing hot and heavy. LG's one of today's biggest players, unleashing a whole bevy of new kit that truly spans the gamut of consumer electronic sectors. Kicking things off is the CF3D, which is hailed as the planet's first Full HD, 3D single lens type projector. As for specs, you'll get 3D auto picture calibration, a twin engine, two HDMI 1.3 sockets, 300 ANSI lumens and a single USB input, while the XGA HX300G won't do much of anyone outside of traveling salespeople much good. Moving on, there's a little confirmation of the Skype news that we caught wind of yesterday; sure enough, a range of LG's NetCast-enabled HDTVs will ship with Skype capabilities, though it sounds as if you'll need to budget for a standalone camera. LG's also making official that Mobile DTV-supporting DVD player that we first spotted at the tail end of last year, which will be in stores later this year for around $249. There's plenty more to share on these -- as well as a good bit surrounding a legion of new monitors -- so hop on past the break if you just can't get enough. %Gallery-81670%

  • iriver E50 gets unboxed, reviewed

iriver's E50 PMP has had a bit of a roundabout launch since it first appeared on the scene back in December, but it looks like it's now finally available in at least a few parts of the world, and the folks at Le Journal du Geek have promptly gotten their hands on one and done the full unboxing and review honors. As was pretty clear from the early shots, this one's a sleek little device and, while it doesn't exactly pack a whole slew of features, it looks to perform all the basic tasks with welcome simplicity. On the downside, the 1.8-inch screen apparently leaves a bit to be desired, especially when playing videos and, while the included earphones are a tad better than the usual fare, the sound quality from the player itself is apparently just average. Hit up the link below for the full blow-by-blow account, including a bonus unboxing / demo video.

It's a little tough to rip our eyes away from the bizarre WAVE-HOME, but the 4.3-inch P7 is a darn good diversion. Said unit is flying high atop iriver's line of portable media players in Vegas this year, packing a 4.3-inch WQVGA (480 x 272) touchscreen, 4/8/16GB of NAND Flash memory, a microSD expansion slot, SRS WOW HD audio enhancement, a battery good for around 50 hours of audio playback, FM radio, voice recorder, seven equalizer presets and a curiously vague "full movie codec support." Following this guy is the E50, E100 Season II and Mplayer Eyes, all of which we had already known of during the run-up to CES. At any rate, all of the official details are just past the break, though pricing and availability are still being sorted.%Gallery-40249%

It seems like it was ages ago that we heard rumors of an aluminum iriver E100... then at the end of November, the E100 Season 2 appeared and the plastic was still in abundance. The E50 (supposedly pictured above) is, however, another tale entirely. The slim, brushed aluminum encased PMP -- which will come in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB models -- boasts a 1.8-inch color LCD, an FM tuner, and gets a rumored 52-hours of audio life. We don't have full specs yet, but the players will apparently appear in January with the 4GB costing about €69 (or about $90). [Thanks, Greg]

There doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement when Pentax releases new cameras in its Optio range -- do you people only love them for their DSLRs? -- but nonetheless, we gave them the same hands-on treatment that everyone else gets. Below you'll find the new S12, E50, and M50 in all their seemingly-unpopular glory, despite the fact that they seemed like fairly stylish, solidly-built products to us. Still with us? Great, we've got a lot of multi-colored point-and-shoot action in store for you.%Gallery-15027%

Two more for ya from Pentax -- the pocketable S12 and E50, which we're going to dig right into if that's okay with the crowd. The former features a 12-megapixel sensor, VGA movie mode, 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD monitor, face recognition, 5-point autofocus, 21MB of internal storage space, support for SD / SDHC cards, USB 2.0 connectivity, video out (NTSC and PAL), PictBridge functionality and ISO up to 3,200. As for the E50, it trims down to an 8.1-megapixel CCD sensor, 2.4-inch LCD, 3-point autofocus system, 9.5MB of built-in memory and an ISO limit of 1,600, but most everything else mimics its aforementioned sibling. Catch 'em both this March for $279.95 and $149.95, respectively, and just in case you were curious to the whereabouts of the oh-so-similar A40, we're told that it's finally set to hit the streets next month for $299.95. %Gallery-14503%

  • Nokia E50 reemerges in "Metal Black"

First it got small; now, it's getting chic. Nokia's most diminutive smartphone, the E50 candybar, is being re-released in fabulous "Metal Black" (read: black) toward the tail end of this quickly waning year. As a refresher, the business-oriented E50 does quad-band GSM plus EDGE, a 320 x 240 display, 1.3 megapixel cam, and microSD expansion all sitting atop S60 3rd Edition. Sadly, it looks like the Metal Black version will only be seeing a limited release in "select markets," but we reckon importers wouldn't last very long in this business if they couldn't figure out how to get a few stateside.[Via nokiae50.info]

We've only been waiting, what, a year for someone to release this thing in the US? Nokia's E60-series finally made it to American shores on Cingular, and, well, there's little for us to report. The E62 is the phone we've been expecting and tracking for many months, but now with some Cingular branding and a couple of minor tweaks (one being the WiFi has mysteriously vanished. Click on for some obligatory pr0n, as well as some of the E50 candybar as well (in brief: solid, hefty, delicious).
