Nokia's new Ovi Maps software just made its way to the venerable <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/06/19/nokia-e71-review/">E71</a> and <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/06/30/nokia-e66-mini-review/">E66</a> business handsets. While Nokia was constrained from offering its premium nav services like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/21/nokia-offering-free-turn-by-turn-navigation-on-smartphones-globa/">Guide Michelin and Lonely Planet</a> on these legacy S60 3.1 handsets, owners are nevertheless being treated to free walk and drive navigation with turn-by-turn guidance. So really, you can't complain... unless of course you picked up a US-flavored <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/e71x">E71x</a> which isn't eligible for the free update. Check the full press release after the break for download instructions and a list of compatible devices.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/nokia-e71-and-e66-owners-get-free-ovi-maps-navigation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nokia E71 and E66 owners get free Ovi Maps navigation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/nokia-e71-and-e66-owners-get-free-ovi-maps-navigation/">Nokia E71 and E66 owners get free Ovi Maps navigation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Apr 2010 09:00:00 EST. Telus already announced that it'd be launching the iPhone <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/06/telus-joins-the-fun-gets-itself-an-iphone-this-november/">in November</a>, but it's just now gotten official with an actual date: November 5th -- which just so happens to also be the day that it lights up its brand new HSPA+ network. Unfortunately for anyone hoping that a little competition would spark a price war, Telus is matching Rogers' prices across the board, starting at $99.99 for the basic 8GB iPhone 3G, and moving up to $199.99 for the 16GB 3GS, and $299.99 for the 32GB 3GS (all on a three-year contract, of course). What's more, Telus has also taken the opportunity to offer the first official confirmation of some of the other devices that'll take advantage of its new network, including the HTC Hero, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/17/lg-bl40-hits-fcc-with-us-3g-seemingly-disabled/">previously rumored</a> LG New Chocolate (a.k.a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bl40">BL40</a>), the Blackberry Bold 9700, and the Nokia E71 (plus a USB stick, for good measure). No prices or release dates for any of those just yet, unfortunately, but the Hero and New Chocolate are apparently Telus exclusives.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/telus-mobility/" rel="tag">Telus Mobility</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/26/telus-kicks-off-hspa-network-with-iphone-november-5th-htc-hero/">Telus kicks off HSPA+ network with iPhone November 5th, HTC Hero, LG New Chocolate and more to follow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 21:10:00 EST. If you stop to think, really, about how much we take pleasure in seeing pictures of phones get utterly dismembered, it's quite disturbing. Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/e71/">E71</a> looks perfectly elegant in its Espoo-sourced attire, but there's nothing that can't be made more gorgeous / gaudy with diamonds. Enter Continental Mobiles, which makes its ends by shoving all sorts of glitz and glam onto handsets and charging a ridiculous price. The phone you see above is doused with an undisclosed amount of VS1 quality diamonds, and thus, it'll run you a staggering &pound;5,999 ($9,546). 'Course, it <em>is</em> hand-crafted in England, but you'll have to provide your own bodyguard when taking it to the streets.<br /><br />[Thanks, Sierra]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/26/nokias-stunning-e71-gets-diamond-clad-makeover/">Nokia's stunning E71 gets diamond-clad makeover</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 26 May 2009 01:24:00 EST. The phone you see above is doused with an undisclosed amount of VS1 quality diamonds, and thus, it'll run you a staggering &pound;5,999 ($9,546). 'Course, it <em>is</em> hand-crafted in England, but you'll have to provide your own bodyguard when taking it to the streets.<br /><br />[Thanks, Sierra]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/26/nokias-stunning-e71-gets-diamond-clad-makeover/">Nokia's stunning E71 gets diamond-clad makeover</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 26 May 2009 01:24:00 EST. Word is that a last-minute bug discovered in the hotly-anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/e71x">Nokia E71x's</a> firmware involving email -- which, let's be honest, is one of the top two or three reasons to own a device with this form factor -- has pushed back the launch by several weeks while all the parties involved scramble to cook up a fix. That sucks, considering the E71 has been out in North American flavor <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/21/nokias-north-american-e71-now-available-at-chicago-flagship-sto/">since last July</a> and we've been hearing about the existence of AT&amp;T's oh-so-special version <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/08/nokia-e71-all-up-in-atandts-labs/">even longer than that</a>, so a delay is just about the last thing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/Symbian/">Symbian</a> faithful around here were hoping to hear. The good news is that the delay might be accompanied by a price break, apparently, bringing the device down to $149.99 on contract after rebate at launch. This whole sitch is still in the rumor phase, but look, AT&amp;T, we're going to hold you to it anyway -- The People want this for under two bills.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/24/atandt-pushing-back-nokia-e71x-launch/">AT&amp;T pushing back Nokia E71x launch?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 04:47:00 EST. Whoa, wait up, what's this? On the very same day that Nokia's white E71 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/18/rogers-begins-selling-white-nokia-e71-americans-consider-reloca/">invaded North America</a> via Rogers Wireless, one of America's least known carriers is following suit for those in and around the great state of Ohio. For reasons unknown, Cincinnati Bell (of all carriers) has managed to pick up the suddenly hot color of this here QWERTY-packin' smartphone, and best of all, it's available for free on a two-year agreement. What's next? Mexico getting this for -$100 after rebate?<br /><br />[Thanks, Jordan]<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> You can also get this bad boy <a href="http://www.buy.com/prod/nokia-e71-unlocked-cell-phone-full-qwerty-keyboard-wifi-integrated-gps/q/loc/12435/208270176.html">unlocked</a>, if you're so inclined. Whoa, wait up, what's this? On the very same day that Nokia's white E71 <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/03/18/rogers-begins-selling-white-nokia-e71-americans-consider-reloca/">invaded North America</a> via Rogers Wireless, one of America's least known carriers is following suit for those in and around the great state of Ohio. You Yanks may bang on the Canucks for having to deal with those ridiculous <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/13/fido-and-rogers-both-nabbing-the-iphone-in-canada/">three-year contracts</a>, but every so often, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/02/8gb-nokia-n95-lands-on-rogers-sticks-tongue-out-at-atandt/">something goes down</a> in the Canadian mobile space that flat-out silences everyone beneath the border. Take this, for instance -- Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/19/nokia-e71-review/">white E71</a>, which can only be scored over in Europe and now in Canada with support for native 3G bands, is finally on sale at Rogers Wireless. Oh sure, the only difference between this E71 and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/16/nokia-e71-confirmed-and-oh-so-slim/">black E71</a> is the colors involved, but we all know just how important that becomes when exclusivity is mixed in. After a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/08/nokia-e71-all-up-in-atandts-labs/">long, long wait</a>, the Nokia <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71x/">E71x</a> (which looks to be the official name, not just E71) finally looks poised to bow any week now, and we've just landed a few more shots of the sucker as it rounds third base. Our tipster confirms that WiFi has been left untouched alongside HSDPA -- thank goodness -- and the phone's S60 build has been left "relatively untouched" by AT&amp;T. Pricing is looking to fall somewhere between $150 and $200 after rebate. Personally, we'd love to see it run $99, but maybe we're dreaming.<br />

We've stumbled across a... <em>ahem</em>, major national retailer's stock sheet for the next few weeks, and things are looking up -- particularly on AT&amp;T, where we'll have a couple of long-awaited releases. Let's start with the unknown, though: there's a "Jackfrost" due at the end of the month, and without even a manufacturer listed, it's impossible to know what this thing could possibly be. More importantly, though, the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/24/lg-xenon-to-bring-high-speed-data-and-texting-to-atandt/">long-rumored</a> LG Zenon (which spikes the less-trademarkable "Xenon" spelling we'd seen before) is slated for mid-April, and the even longer-rumored <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E71x/">E71x</a> -- which may simply be known as the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E71/">E71</a> by the time it launches -- should drop by at the beginning of next month. Moving over to Big Red, that Nokia 7205 Intrigue that's been kicking around in spy shots <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/25/motorola-w755-and-a-pair-of-nokias-come-to-light-for-verizon/">since the early part of '08</a> might finally launch in just a few days' time. All told, we have a lot of emotional closure around the corner with these launches, don't we?<br />

More importantly, though, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/24/lg-xenon-to-bring-high-speed-data-and-texting-to-atandt/">long-rumored</a> LG Zenon (which spikes the less-trademarkable "Xenon" spelling we'd seen before) is slated for mid-April, and the even longer-rumored <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71x/">E71x</a> -- which may simply be known as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71/">E71</a> by the time it launches -- should drop by at the beginning of next month. Moving over to Big Red, that Nokia 7205 Intrigue that's been kicking around in spy shots <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/25/motorola-w755-and-a-pair-of-nokias-come-to-light-for-verizon/">since the early part of '08</a> might finally launch in just a few days' time. All told, we have a lot of emotional closure around the corner with these launches, don't we?<br />

We sniffed out <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/nokia-e55-half-qwerty-smartphone-unveiled/">Nokia's new E55</a> not-a-QWERTY QWERTY candybar phone, which uses a SureType-esque predictive text mechanism with two letters per key, and looks pretty good doing it. Nokia's calling this the "world's thinnest smartphone," quite the feat if it's true, and it might just give Nokia's ultrapopular E71 a run for its money in the "fashionably smart" category. We played with the phone for a brief moment, and though it's running an alpha software build, we didn't have much trouble typing out a quick message. Unfortunately, while the keys are naturally larger, they aren't very "clicky" or distinct -- not horrible, but certainly not best-in-class. The prediction works well enough, learning new words after one entry, and letting you d-pad up and down through other options if it doesn't get it right the first try. Overall the phone feels on par with quality of the E71, though lighter and smaller, and is insanely pocketable. Video is after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e55-hands-on/">Nokia E55 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e55-hands-on/#1361257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/02/e55-handsmwc-0001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e55-hands-on/#1361265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/02/e55-handsmwc-0002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e55-hands-on/#1361273"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/02/e55-handsmwc-0003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e55-hands-on/#1361274"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/02/e55-handsmwc-0004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e55-hands-on/#1361259"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/02/e55-handsmwc-0005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/nokia-e55-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nokia E55 hands-on</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/nokia-e55-hands-on/">Nokia E55 hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 08:09:00 EST. Nokia's not pulling any punches about the fact that its seemingly business-oriented <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71/">E71</a> serves double duty as one of the sexiest QWERTY devices ever to see retail, showing it off in two gorgeous new schemes: chrome / red and solid black. We've seen these before, but never in any official capacity; now that Nokia Europe's website has 'em in all their shiny glory, that seems to be a good sign that we'll be able to whip out our credit cards eventually. RIM, what do you say: an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/8900/">8900</a> in red? No word on when we might see an update for North American E71-3 users, but generally, Nokia's been better about tightening up the Europe-to-North America trickle-down delay, so we certainly hope we'll see it within a few weeks.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/8759_Firmware_update_for_E71_200211.php">All About Symbian</a> and <a href="http://nokiaaddict.com/2009/01/12/nokia-e71-euro-firmware-updated-to-v20021118-anyone-apply-the-update-and-notice-changes-httppingfmwydxv/">nokiAAdict.com</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/12/nokia-e71-gets-biggie-sized-update/">Nokia E71 gets biggie-sized update</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 21:04:00 EST. Certainly seems that this thing is actually going to happen -- much to the delight of jaded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E62/">E62</a> users looking for some kind of relief. The well-scooped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71x/">E71x</a> has just gotten its user's manual upped to Nokia USA's site, showing off the QWERTY beast in all its tweaked, branded glory. Not as useful as... oh, you know, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/atandt-branded-e71x-relegated-to-ebay/">actually having one in our hands</a>, but at least we can read up on the proper use of AT&amp;T Navigator and MEdia Mall while we wait for some kind of launch.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/01/10/e71x-release-imminent/">Boy Genius Report</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/atandt-branded-nokia-e71x-scores-its-own-users-manual/">AT&amp;T-branded Nokia E71x scores its own user's manual</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 22:58:00 EST. <div align="left">Just a few days ago we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/nokia-e63-hands-on/">got our mitts on the QWERTY Nokia E63</a>, and now <em>Mobile Burn</em>'s got a full-on review of the device. They think the phone's attractive for its price, and are particularly fans of its feel and contacts system, while the obvious drawbacks -- lack of GPS and HSDPA, plus a less powerful camera than its predecessor, the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E71/">E71</a> -- are not enough to make it feel totally cheap. The E63 is essentially not surprising in any way, but it's also not a disappointment, and the reviewer seems to be pretty impressed with the device overall. Video of the review after the break.<br /></div>

While the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/nokia-n97-hands-on-part-ii-the-reckoning/">N97 was free to fondle</a>, the <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/e63">slightly less exciting E63</a> was decidedly bolted to a table, so we had to take what angles we could get. The phone is basically a cheap-o version of the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E71/">E71</a>: Nokia figured it had a good thing going on in that QWERTY candybar, and decided to spread the love at a lower price point, with a slightly thicker, plastic handset. The good news is that no matter what you do to cheapen the phone, the E63 comes from good stock, and is really a compelling form factor. The slight bump in thickness is negligible, and while the cheaper materials are easily distinguished from the luxury feel of the E71, the phone by no means feels cheap. Except for the keyboard. For some reason Nokia opted to remove the hardened, clickier E71 keys and replace them with a softer, rubberier keyboard with a considerable amount of distributed give to it -- that still leaves it as one of Nokia's best QWERTYs to date, but we greatly prefer the E71. The other compelling difference between the phone and its inspiration is the inclusion of a full 3.5mm headphone jack, instead of the mini jack found on the E71. Not bad at all, but we'd guess Nokia saved a lot more money in materials and manufacturing process than with the sorry removal of GPS and HSDPA.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e63-hands-on-1/">Nokia E63 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e63-hands-on-1/#1204017"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/nokia-e63-hands-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e63-hands-on-1/#1204016"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/nokia-e63-hands-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e63-hands-on-1/#1204015"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/nokia-e63-hands-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e63-hands-on-1/#1204014"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/nokia-e63-hands-005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-e63-hands-on-1/#1204013"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/nokia-e63-hands-006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/nokia-e63-hands-on/">Nokia E63 hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 20:42:00 EST. The writing was on the wall following Nokia's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/27/nokia-pulls-out-of-japan-nobody-notices/">official withdrawal from Japan</a>, and sure enough, NTT DoCoMo has now officially nixed plans to bring the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71/">E71</a> to market early next year. In a product lineup flush with wide VGA displays, giant cameras, and happiness generators, we suspect the QVGA QWERTY set won't be sorely missed by most over there -- and hey, that just means more E71s for the rest of us. Anyone need a second or a third?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ntt-docomo/" rel="tag">NTT DoCoMo</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/01/ntt-docomo-drops-the-axe-on-its-lame-duck-nokia-e71/">NTT DoCoMo drops the axe on its lame-duck Nokia E71</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 04:33:00 EST. Originally, Fido had been rumored to be the lucky recipient of the sexy little S60 number with QWERTY, but at some point, parent company Rogers became the front runner to nab it -- and <em>MobileSyrup</em> reports that the coup is now complete. There's no sign of it on their website just yet, but calling up a Rogers rep will apparently now net you the opportunity to score an E71 for $99.99 CAD on a three-year contract with the purchase of a voice and data plan totaling $45 a month or higher -- so if enterprise-y Symbian gear is how you roll, here's your chance.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/28/nokia-e71-now-available-from-rogers/">Nokia E71 now available from Rogers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 28 Nov 2008 08:02:00 EST. As of now, Americans can suck down v110.07.127 for their <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/21/nokias-north-american-e71-now-available-at-chicago-flagship-sto/">E71-2</a> in order to take advantage of a smattering of bug fixes. Most notably, users should see Nokia Email updates as well as "a new update to Mail For Exchange and Nokia Maps, both of which are pre-installed." As always, we'd highly recommend backing everything up before doing the deed, but if you're feeling froggy, jump.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2008/11/nokia-e71-2-nam-gets-firmware-update.html">Symbian-Guru</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/25/nokia-brings-firmware-update-to-north-american-e71/">Nokia brings firmware update to North American E71</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 25 Nov 2008 17:32:00 EST. We've been hearing <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/05/08/nokia-e71-all-up-in-atandts-labs/">for ages</a> that there was a super-special version of the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/E71/">E71</a> with an AT&amp;T ROM floating around somewhere in Nokia's skunkworks, but solid evidence of its existence has been scarce to say the least; some said it was canceled, some said it was just taking its sweet time going through the testing process, and some put a hand over our mouth and told us never to speak "AT&amp;T" and "E71" in the same sentence again lest an agent overhear us. New in-the-wild shots give us -- and the North American S60-loving public -- newfound hope that the phone's gonna actually happen, but it'll emerge as the "E71x." That's a new suffix for Nokia, so we really have no idea what it might mean -- more internal memory would be cool, but we're not really counting on it. Word is that it'll be available for something in the $150 range when it finally hits, so if the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/6650/">6650</a> isn't your cup o' tea, hang tight. If you've got absolutely no complaints with your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E66/">E66</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/E71/">E71</a>, you could just leave better off alone and forget that you ever read this. If you've got beef, however, we'd suggest hitting the read link pronto. Nokia has just unloaded a new firmware update for both of the aforementioned mobiles which includes new versions of Mail For Exchange and Nokia Maps. Additionally, the updates provide "a number of performance improvements including camera viewfinder orientation, Mail for Exchange synchronization and browsing." Thankfully, it seems as if the suits in Espoo took Oscar Rogers' advice to "JUST FIX IT," and, well, fixed it.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/8448_Fimrware_updates_for_E71_11007.php">AllAboutSymbian</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/software/" rel="tag">Software</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/symbian/" rel="tag">Symbian</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/15/nokia-brings-minor-firmware-updates-to-e66-and-e71/">Nokia brings minor firmware updates to E66 and E71</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 15 Nov 2008 14:40:00 EST. It actually first kicked off earlier this year, but it looks like it's now about to take another big step forward, with the researchers set to open things up to the general public -- or the general public in Northern California, at least. The idea here is to collect data from folks with GPS-equipped cellphones and combine it with existing traffic data, and then in turn make that information accessible via cellphone to let you plan out the speediest route. According to the researchers, the software will work on both Nokia and non-Nokia phones, but it seems that they've only tested it on the E71 and N95 so far (you can also view real-time traffic data on your computer). More details will apparently be announced when this new stage of the project officially gets underway on November 10th, but those interested in taking part can already register by hitting up the read link below.<br /><br />[Thanks, Eric M]<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> In case you're wondering about the potential privacy concerns here, UC Berkeley has <a href="http://berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2008/11/06_mobilemillenium.shtml">said</a> that it has built privacy safeguards into the system from the beginning to ensure that no data can be tied to a particular phone, and it also notes that users can control the service themselves and, of course, shut it off anytime they don't want traffic data to be transmitted.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gps/" rel="tag">GPS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/transportation/" rel="tag">Transportation</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/07/mobile-millenium-project-promises-to-track-traffic-with-cellphon/">Mobile Millennium project promises to track traffic with cellphones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 07 Nov 2008 12:41:00 EST. Hot on the heels of RIM's BlackBerry Bold <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/03/atandt-kicks-off-blackberry-bold-sales-on-the-web/">finally hitting</a> AT&amp;T sales channels comes word that Japan's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ntt-docomo/">NTT DoCoMo</a> has also <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/29/ntt-docomo-to-launch-blackberry-bold-next-year/">joined in</a> to offer the handset. As the Asian carriers dump their cornucopia of fall 2008 mobiles onto the world, this particular one is serving up 22, all divided into the STYLE, PRIME, SMART and PRO series. Naturally, the latter category piques our interest the most, as it hosts the Bold, Nokia E71, HTC Touch Pro (HT-01A), HTC Touch Diamond (HT-02A) and Sharp's decidedly handsome SH-04A. From a corporate standpoint, we can sort of understand the parent company's desire to have the best handset launches all to itself, but it sure would've been kind of it to throw FIDO a proverbial bone. If you'll recall, whispers were in the air that Rogers, FIDO's parent company, would be reserving the Nokia E71 for a fall / winter <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/01/canadas-fido-eyeing-nokia-e71/">FIDO launch</a>; now, we're hearing from a number of directions that those plans may have been scrapped. In fact, Rogers could now be hosting the phone all by its lonesome next month in Canada. Of course, we'll have to wait until then to see if hearts change once more, but boy, the tug-of-war between parent and child here is really bringing back some frightening memories.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2008/10/07/nokia-e71-gets-pulled-from-fido-goes-to-rogers/">mobilesyrup</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/14/nokias-e71-swiped-from-fido-reserved-for-rogers-launch/">Nokia's E71 swiped from FIDO, reserved for Rogers launch?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 14:59:00 EST. Yeah, that sucked. The good news, though, is that since the E62's release, AT&amp;T's really warmed up to WiFi and manufacturers have started to smile upon HSDPA 850 / 1900 en masse. Word on the street is that AT&amp;T will be taking another shot at the whole S60 QWERTY thing, launching its own flavor of the E71 as the E72. Of course, you can get North American 3G in the plain ol' E71 this time around, so what would a customized E72 have to offer? Feature Pack 2, allegedly, a line item sadly missing from the original's spec sheet despite its release coming well after FP2 hit the streets. We've been hearing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/08/nokia-e71-all-up-in-atandts-labs/">for ages</a> that AT&amp;T was eyeing this thing, so we take this as a great sign that the plans haven't been abandoned -- only question is, when's it going to go down?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/atandt/" rel="tag">ATT</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/29/atandt-to-get-nokia-e71-as-e72/">AT&amp;T to get Nokia E71 as E72?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 04:43:00 EST. While no pricing info is being bandied about, the "news" does see it landing during the November timeframe. Rogers, FIDO's parent company and only GSM competition -- at least <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/01/bell-telus-to-announce-hspa-partnership-this-week/">for now</a> -- has apparently passed on this little QWERTY gem, though these kind of stories do change with time.
