Can't say that these three have a heck of a lot in common in most regards, but one thing's for sure: trying to stop this trio would be a Herculean task. And so it goes with laptops -- once upon a time, it was good enough to have something that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/07/rockdirect-xtreme-64-the-dual-core-desktop-laptop/">resembled a portable tower</a>, but these days, the ability to even see the chassis at all feels like a negative. I exaggerate, of course, but the proverbial race in the laptop world is hardly about price; it's about <i>thinness</i>. Intel's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/11/intel-says-75-ultrabooks-in-the-pipeline-with-3rd-gen-hd-2500-an/">unstoppable quest</a> to plaster the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/ces-2012-ultrabook-round-up/">Ultrabook term</a> as far and wide as possible has led to a change in the way consumers are viewing portable machines, and Apple's devilishly thin <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/25/macbook-air-review-mid-2011/">MacBook Air</a> certainly played a role, too. What we're left with is a very curious priority list, and I'm wondering if too many OEMs have stopped to wonder if the "obvious" is indeed the "right."</p><p> I'll be the first to confess that I love the look of thin. Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/09/15-inch-samsung-series-9-review-2012/">Series 9</a> and Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/12/acer-aspire-s5-hands-on-revisited-now-with-video/">Aspire S5</a> might just be two of the sexiest machines to ever be built, and Dell's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/13/dell-adamo-review/">original Adamo</a> was primarily of interest due to one thing: its jaw-droppingly thin frame. But there's some saying about putting form before function that seems to apply here, particularly when keying in on battery life. I've no doubt that the marketing and research teams for PC makers far and wide understand the realities of the market place, and perhaps the average consumer really doesn't need more than four to six hours of life on a single charge. Five years ago, squeezing that much life from machines under an inch thick would've required some sort of wizardry that exists only in a rarely visited corner of West Hollywood. But today, I'm a dreamer. And I'm dreaming of a laptop with "all day battery life" -- something that could be screamed from the rooftops, and honestly, something that could probably be accomplished tomorrow if our laptop options weren't on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/19/editorial-dont-call-it-an-ultrabook/">such a diet</a>.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/16/editorial-thin-laptops-mainstream-ultrabook-battery-life-changes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Editorial: Thin laptops are the new mainstream, but what about battery life?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/16/editorial-thin-laptops-mainstream-ultrabook-battery-life-changes/">Editorial: Thin laptops are the new mainstream, but what about battery life?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 14:00:00 EST. As you can see in the above slide and the <em>extremely</em> brief video teaser after the break, this time round the design will feature a glass control panel, as well as a metal scan bar and a metal hinge under the scanner's see-through lid. Pretty hot, we'd say, and looking back at the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy+14+spectre">Envy 14 Spectre</a> which shares similar elements, this certainly sets a good example of how the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/21/hps-imaging-printing-personal-systems-reorganization-official/">Printing and Personal Systems Group</a> is already bringing a better design consistency across what used to be two different groups. For now, stay tuned for more info.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer-glass-and-metal-dotted-all-over/">HP teases new Envy all-in-one printer, glass and metal dotted all over</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer-glass-and-metal-dotted-all-over/#5019953"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-new-envy-printer-2012-05-090_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer-glass-and-metal-dotted-all-over/#5019956"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-new-envy-printer-2012-05-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer-glass-and-metal-dotted-all-over/#5019954"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-new-envy-printer-2012-05-091_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer-glass-and-metal-dotted-all-over/#5019955"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-new-envy-printer-2012-05-092_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/11/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP teases new Envy all-in-one printer, glass and metal dotted all over (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/11/hp-teases-new-envy-all-in-one-printer/">HP teases new Envy all-in-one printer, glass and metal dotted all over (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 May 2012 18:03:00 EST. Most notably, we learned that some of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hp">HP's</a> latest laptop designs were based on the work of its research centers from 11 different cities, and the company isn't afraid of admitting that it used consultants for an outside perspective as well.</p><p> Despite Stacy's upbeat presentation and interesting stats (apparently these days men have a boring color preference, from first to fourth favorite: black, gray, blue and white), the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-vs-the-macbook-pro/">inevitable</a> question popped up: One lady expressed her concern that the brand-spanking-new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/08/hp-envy-spectre-xt-ultrabooks-sleekbooks/">Envy Spectre XT</a> reminded her of the MacBook Air a lot, so she wondered if HP's ever worried that Apple might sue.</p><p> Stacy kept his initial reply pretty brief:</p><blockquote> <p> <em>"I would go back to the TC1000 [Tablet PC] from about 10 years, and that's a tablet. I think if you look at the new Spectre XT, there are similarities in a way, not due to Apple but due to the way technologies developed. Apple may like to think that they own silver, but they don't. In no way did HP try to mimic Apple. In life there are a lot of similarities."</em></p></blockquote><p> As always, we wanted more from the horse's mouth, so we grabbed hold of Stacy right after the session and had a little chat over this topic -- you can see the full and surprisingly candid interview after the break.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-on-laptop-design-similarities-with-apples-its-a-struggle-as-we-drive-to-simplicity/">HP on laptop design similarities with Apple's: it's a struggle as we drive to simplicity</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-on-laptop-design-similarities-with-apples-its-a-struggle-as-we-drive-to-simplicity/#5013327"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-design-meets-function-2012-05-090_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-on-laptop-design-similarities-with-apples-its-a-struggle-as-we-drive-to-simplicity/#5013358"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-design-meets-function-2012-05-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-on-laptop-design-similarities-with-apples-its-a-struggle-as-we-drive-to-simplicity/#5013328"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-design-meets-function-2012-05-091_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-on-laptop-design-similarities-with-apples-its-a-struggle-as-we-drive-to-simplicity/#5013329"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-design-meets-function-2012-05-092_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-on-laptop-design-similarities-with-apples-its-a-struggle-as-we-drive-to-simplicity/#5013330"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/hp-design-meets-function-2012-05-093_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/hp-apple-laptop-design-similarity/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP on laptop design similarities with Apple's: it's a struggle as we drive to simplicity</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/hp-apple-laptop-design-similarity/">HP on laptop design similarities with Apple's: it's a struggle as we drive to simplicity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 09 May 2012 09:57:00 EST. You're hungry for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/hp-unveils-ultrabook-elitebook-folio/"><em>more</em></a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/08/hp-refreshes-its-pavilion-laptops-ahead-of-back-to-school-season/">HP</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/hp-refreshes-elitebook-line-with-five-new-models/">laptops</a>? Good! Because we're not nearly done yet! The company just expanded its line of Ultrabooks from two to five, and that's not even counting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/08/hp-unveils-ultrabook-elitebook-folio/">this guy</a>. And, the company also plans to sell so-called Sleekbooks -- essentially, thin-and-light laptops that don't quite meet Intel's criteria for Ultrabooks. So what goodies to we have in store? First up, there's the 13.3-inch Envy Spectre XT, whose all-metal body looks nothing like the glass-class clad <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/14/hp-envy-14-spectre-review/">Envy 14 Spectre</a> we reviewed earlier this year. As with its big brother, the major selling point here is design -- in this case, a 3.07-pound machine with a 14.5mm-thick profile. As for specs, you can expect an Ivy Bridge CPU, paired with a 128GB SSD and a battery rated for eight hours of runtime. Like the other Ultrabooks in HP's stable, it makes room for a USB 3.0 port, HDMI and an Ethernet jack, and similar to other Envys it comes with full copies of Adobe Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements, along with a two-year subscription to Norton Internet Security. We're told the warranty on this Envy is one year, not two, but users owners do get a dedicated customer support line, for what that's worth.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt-hands-on/">HP Envy Spectre XT hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt-hands-on/#5007640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00769_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt-hands-on/#5007641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00771_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt-hands-on/#5007635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00764_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt-hands-on/#5007636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00765_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt-hands-on/#5007637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00766_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt/">HP Envy Spectre XT</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt/#5007734"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-spectrextcoresetdance_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt/#5007735"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-spectrextcoresetfrontleftopen_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt/#5007736"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-spectrextcoresetfrontopen_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt/#5007738"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-spectrextcoresetfrontrightopen_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-spectre-xt/#5007739"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-spectrextcoresetrearopenprofile_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> Moving on, HP's Envy-branded Ultrabooks and "Sleekbooks" will be available in 14- and and 15.6-inch screen sizes in each category, though the Ultrabook configs are naturally Intel-based, while the Sleekbooks will pack Intel or AMD chips. With the Sleekbooks, too, you can also choose optional discrete graphics if there's an Intel processor inside. (The AMD versions have "discrete-class" graphics, which is really just a nod to the all-inclusive design of AMD's application processing units.) If you go for the Sleekbook, you'll also get up to nine hours of battery life; with the Intel-based Ultrabooks, that rating is eight or nine hours, depending on whether you opt for the 14- or 15-inch version. Of course, the Intel-based models are also home to various Intel-branded technologies, including Rapid Start, Identity Protection, Smart Response and Smart Connect.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-ultrabook-sleekbook-hands-on-14-inch-version/">HP Ultrabook / Sleekbook hands-on (14-inch in black/red; 15-inch model in black/white)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-ultrabook-sleekbook-hands-on-14-inch-version/#5007653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00784_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-ultrabook-sleekbook-hands-on-14-inch-version/#5007654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00785_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-ultrabook-sleekbook-hands-on-14-inch-version/#5007648"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00779_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-ultrabook-sleekbook-hands-on-14-inch-version/#5007650"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00781_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-ultrabook-sleekbook-hands-on-14-inch-version/#5007651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc00782_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-ultrabooks-and-sleekbooks-2012/">HP Envy Ultrabooks and Sleekbooks (2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-ultrabooks-and-sleekbooks-2012/#5007755"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-sleekbookfrontleftopenblackred_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-ultrabooks-and-sleekbooks-2012/#5007756"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-sleekbookfrontopenblackred_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-ultrabooks-and-sleekbooks-2012/#5007757"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-sleekbookfrontopenblacksilver_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-ultrabooks-and-sleekbooks-2012/#5007758"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-sleekbookfrontrightopenblackred_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-ultrabooks-and-sleekbooks-2012/#5007759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/envy-sleekbookheroblackred_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p> One thing that won't change is the industrial design: both the Ultrabooks and Sleekbooks will be offered in black and red. The 14-inch Sleekbook is on sale today, too, starting at $700, though the 15-inch version doesn't debut until June 20th, at which point it'll start at $600. As for that Spectre XT, it'll start at $1,000 and is expected to land June 8th. Making good on a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/08/hp-envy-15-color-calibration-fix/">promise</a> it made back in March, HP has finally released its On-Screen Display Utility software for the machine in hopes of quelling user complaints. If you'll recall, HP stated that the displays are of a higher quality than other laptop panels, which can make colors look odd in comparison. That said, while this gesture is certainly welcome, at least one tipster wrote in to complain that he "wasn't able to get a satisfactory change. It's basically just gamma adjustment and r/g/b sliders." Of course, we've only cited one anecdote here, so if you've got an Envy 15 you'd like to test this on, hit up the source link below. Be sure to let us know your results in the comments.</p><p> [Thanks, Anthony]</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/26/hps-on-screen-display-utility-released-aims-to-alleviate-envy/">HP's On-Screen Display Utility released, aims to alleviate Envy 15 screen color complaints</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 26 Apr 2012 03:57:00 EST. Why, what's this? Funny you ask -- we're wondering the same thing. A source at HP just dropped us a mysterious teaser video of a so-called Spectre laptop, a heretofore unannounced lappie that <i>looks</i> to be the company's next <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Ultrabook/">Ultrabook</a>. In our wildest dreams, this rig has a dual-LCD setup -- similar to Toshiba's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/21/toshiba-libretto-w100-resurrects-the-classic-umpc-brand-with-dua/">Libretto W100</a> and Acer's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/29/acer-slaps-1-200-price-tag-on-dual-screen-iconia-6120-touchbook/">Iconia-6120</a> -- but perhaps the creators here were just coincidentally interested in showing us lots of glass panes. We'll be digging for more details (we're told that an official produce portal should surface tomorrow), but for now, lose your mind in the video just past the break.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: If we had to guess, we'd say it's the Envy Spectre -- a machine that passed through the FCC's database <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/24/hp-envy-spectre-arrives-at-fcc-next-year-s-model-probably-calle/">around a week ago</a>. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-spectre-laptop-teaser-leak/">HP Spectre laptop teaser leak</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-spectre-laptop-teaser-leak/#4711382"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/hp-spectre-leak7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-spectre-laptop-teaser-leak/#4711383"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/hp-spectre-leak6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-spectre-laptop-teaser-leak/#4711384"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/hp-spectre-leak5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-spectre-laptop-teaser-leak/#4711385"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/hp-spectre-leak4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-spectre-laptop-teaser-leak/#4711386"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/hp-spectre-leak3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/02/hp-spectre-teaser-video-fantastically-thin-laptop-shrouded-in/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP Spectre teaser video: fantastically thin laptop, shrouded in mystery</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/02/hp-spectre-teaser-video-fantastically-thin-laptop-shrouded-in/">HP Spectre teaser video: fantastically thin laptop, shrouded in mystery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 02 Jan 2012 19:13:00 EST. Even in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/FCC/">FCC's</a> secret Washington bunker, our boys in lab-coats like to spread a little festive cheer. When this new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/15/hp-envy-14-review-2011/">HP Envy 14</a> Spectre was released into the streets, we found it wrapped in tinsel. We'll expect to learn more about this dual-band Wireless-N packing laptop in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/29/engadget-the-official-online-news-source-of-ces-2012-and-the-ce/">January</a>, where we figure it'll be the last model to carry Intel's Sandy Bridge, since successor <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/07/intel-springs-another-leak-mobile-ivy-bridge-cpus-abound/">Ivy Bridge</a> isn't due to arrive at OEMs for another couple of months. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/hp-envy-14-review/">last time</a> we reviewed the Envy 14, we concluded, by and large, that HP got it right. The company succeeded in delivering good performance and graphics punch, all while correcting a teensy overheating problem and adding an optical drive and backlit keyboard. Then there was that rock-solid, engraved metal chassis that made it one of the most attractive notebooks on the market -- a distinction it still holds to this day. So as you can imagine, when HP refreshed the Envy 14 this summer, there wasn't exactly a lot to improve. What we have here is a nearly identical machine, with the same stunning design -- not to mention, $1,000 starting price. Now, though, HP is selling it with Sandy Bridge processors and USB 3.0 -- the kind of tweaks laptop makers have been rolling out for the better part of this year.<br />
<br />
Normally, that kind of speed bump wouldn't warrant us re-reviewing a laptop. In fact, we probably wouldn't be revisiting the Envy 14 if it weren't for two things. For starters, we've received an unusual number of emails, tweets and comments from readers, imploring us to weigh in on the Sandy Bridge version before they pull the trigger. Secondly, in addition to that processor swap, HP has fine-tuned the touchpad drivers, and assures us the trackpad isn't the flaky mess it was the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hpenvy">last two times around</a>. So how much better is the Envy 14 in the year two thousand and eleven? Let's find out.<br />

We know that this time of year can be pretty annoying and stressful for everyone, so we're here to help out with the heartbreaking process of gadget buying for the school-aged crowd. Today we're getting down to the very important business of helping you sift through laptops, and you can always head to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/backtoschool2011/">Back to School hub</a> to see the rest of the product guides as they're added throughout the month. Be sure to keep checking back -- at the end of the month we'll be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/02/engadgets-back-to-school-2011-sweepstakes-were-giving-away-3/">giving away</a> a ton of the gear featured in our guides -- and hit up the hub page <a href="http://www.engadget.com/backtoschool2011">right here</a>!<br /></em><div style="text-align: center;"> <br /> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/engadgets-back-to-school-guide-2011-laptops/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/2011-08-24-laptopbts.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div><br />Ah, laptops. <em>Some</em> of us received our first notebooks the summer before college if not later. But times have changed and we're sure for many of the kids reading this freshman year is just an excuse to upgrade from the clunkers that carried them through high school. Either way, this one's pretty much mandatory -- unless you're a serious gamer who insists on a desktop GPU for marathon sessions of <em>CoD: Black Ops</em>, you're going to need a laptop for pounding out last-minute term papers in the library, taking notes in class and posting incriminating photos on Facebook. The problem is, the market's overrun with laptops that purport to be just <em>perfect</em> for the back to school set. They can't all be worth your money, though, so we whittled the list down to a handful of choices for each budget -- and if you're lucky you'll get your very own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/17/hp-pavilion-dm1z-with-amd-fusion-review/">HP Pavilion dm1z</a> for the pretty price of, well, nothing. With a Sandy Bridge refresh, a new 14-inch mainstream laptop, and a redesigned netbook, HP's latest crop of consumer systems offers a little something for everyone. First up, there's the 14-inch Pavilion dv4 (not to be confused with the metal-clad <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/15/hp-pavilion-dm4-review/">dm4</a>), which bears the same Imprint finish and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CoolSense/">CoolSense</a> technology as its siblings and ushers in a striking cobalt blue color option, as you can see in the photo above. Look for it on May 18 with a starting price of $600.<br />
<br />
Then there's the revamped Mini 210, which swaps <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/25/hp-mini-210-hd-edition-review/">last year's</a> not-too-glossy plastic lid for candy-colored lids, and adds a seamless touchpad, edge-to-edge 10.1-inch display, and a flush six-cell battery promising up to 8.8 hours of battery life -- an upgrade over last year's standard four-cell. Spec-wise, nothing has changed from the current 210, except for the addition of Beats Audio, something you'll find <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/08/hps-pavilion-dv6-and-dv7-get-envy-like-design-and-features-g-s/">across HP's notebook lineup</a>. It'll be available on June 15 and cost $300 for the charcoal version -- alas, you'll have to pony up $330 for one of the punchier colors. For now, be sure to check out our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/09/dnp-hp-mini-210-hands-on-video/">video hands-on</a>.<br />
<br />
Lastly, HP did the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/19/the-dual-core-sandy-bridge-laptops-have-arrived-dell-hp-lenov/">predictable</a> and refreshed the high-end Envy 14 with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SandyBridge/">Sandy Bridge</a> CPU options and USB 3.0. It also promises an improved touch experience -- something we bemoaned in our review last year -- with a trackpad that uses optical sensors to analyze your multitouch gestures. That will go on sale June 15 for $1,000 and up.<br />

Voodoo founder Rahul Sood has never shied from controversy -- he famously <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/01/hp-exec-cuts-birthday-cake-with-macbook-air/">cut a cake with a MacBook Air</a> during his tenure at HP -- and today he's expressing his love for Apple hardware from his pulpit <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/21/rahul-sood-joins-microsoft-as-gm-for-system-experience-in-the-in/">as a Microsoft exec</a>. "Every executive in the PC industry should use an Apple notebook," Sood tweeted today, implying that they were of higher quality than those that come with Windows by default. That certainly sounds a bit like a shot at Microsoft, but according to <em>ConceivablyTech</em> he may actually be pointing at his former employer HP, as a series of private status updates point to HP's unwillingness to compete at the high end of the laptop marketplace. "We could have done it - just need a few years of patience, and investment in our tooling/process," the message reportedly reads, "We really could have done it. [...] &lrm;...especially with webOS, what a combination that would have been." We're <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/25/the-winners-of-the-2010-engadget-awards-editors-choice/">actually pretty happy</a> with our Envy 14 -- lack of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/26/hp-envy-14-radiance-displays-sold-out-forever/">Radiance Display</a> aside -- but we can't help wondering if it coulda been a contender <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/voodoos-rahul-sood-emerges-from-hiding-gives-us-all-the-low-do/">with Voodoo DNA</a> on board.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/01/microsofts-rahul-sood-says-every-pc-industry-exec-should-use-a/">Microsoft's Rahul Sood says every PC industry exec should use a MacBook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 01 Mar 2011 17:09:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Yep, it's a sad tale, but HP's run out of those glorious 1600 x 900-resolution, 350nit Radiance displays for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/hp-envy-14-review/">Envy 14</a> once and for all. As you may recall, they did come <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/13/hp-envy-14-aficionados-rejoice-radiance-displays-are-back-for-a/">back in stock</a> for a short time, but HP tells us that limited supply has dried up and that there are no plans right now to restock the inventory. In fact, a HP representative was pretty explicit in saying that the high-resolution panel won't be returning to the 14.5-inch Envy. We're sorry we don't have better news for you or a fresh pack of tissues to help dry your tears, but hey, we guess there's always the larger <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/hp-envy-17-review/">17-inch model</a> with its full 1080p panel.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/26/hp-envy-14-radiance-displays-sold-out-forever/">HP Envy 14 Radiance displays sold out... forever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 26 Jan 2011 19:26:00 EST. What once was lost, now is found...for a little while, at least. HP has finally decided to undo its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/29/hp-envy-15-and-envy-14-with-radiance-display-no-longer-available/">previous mistake</a>, and make the 1600x900 Radiance Infinity LED display a $200 upgrade on its Envy 14 laptops for a limited time. Alas, Dr. Dre fans are not afforded the same luxury, as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/30/hp-envy-14-beats-edition-no-longer-available-with-dr-dre-endors/">Beats Edition</a> only comes with the standard 1366x768 BrightView screen, but we're just glad to see that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/hp-envy-14-review/">beautiful, bright Radiance panel</a> is on <i>one </i>Envy, even if only temporarily.<br />

No surprises here -- HP just updated a bunch of its consumer laptops here at CES, and the biggest change is that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy17">Envy 17</a> and Pavilion <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cv6">dv6</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dv7">dv7</a> have been kicked over to Intel's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sandybridge">Sandy Bridge</a> second-gen Core processors. In addition to the new chips, the Envy 17 is getting HP CoolSense cooling and switchable AMD Radeon 6850M graphics with support for Intel Wireless Display -- pricing and availability haven't been determined yet, but we wouldn't expect it to be cheap. On the other hand, the dv6 and dv7 are mostly the same apart from the processor bump, and they'll be $899 and $999 when they hit on January 9th.<br />
<br />
Oh, and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mini210">Mini 210</a> is getting two new pink plaid case lids, which is almost as cool as new processors. Right? Right. First it was the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/13/dell-adamo-review/">Adamo</a>, now it's the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/hp-envy-13-review/">Envy</a>. HP has joined Dell in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/25/dells-adamo-13-ultraportable-slips-to-899-gets-a-spec-bump/">deeply discounting</a> its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-envy-14-and-17-officially-official-envy-13-slowly-waves-good/">aging</a> 13-inch ultrathin, though unlike its Round Rock competitor, it hasn't bothered to give it any spec bumps. Consequently, even with this interest-building $450 rebate, the Envy 13 loses out to the Adamo 13 in a straight spec fight -- a 1.6GHz CPU, 3GB of DDR3 RAM and a 5400RPM hard drive are all either slower or smaller than Dell's offering -- but it does still have a pair of aces up its sleeve to get latecomers to part with their cash. Those include an external SuperMulti DVD rewriter and a discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 GPU with 512MB of dedicated memory. Sure, it's not much, but then neither is the new price.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/29/hp-slashes-envy-13-price-to-999-with-450-rebate/">HP slashes Envy 13 price to $999 with $450 rebate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Dec 2010 04:27:00 EST. When it comes to selecting our favorite mainstream Windows laptops these days the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/hp-envy-14-review/">HP Envy 14</a> is pretty much at the tippy top of the list. (Hey, we don't just <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/20/engadgets-back-to-school-giveaway-part-three-win-an-hp-envy-1/">give anything away</a> to our college-bound readers, you know?) But while the 14-inch version of the magnesium-alloy laptop may have impressed us with its new backlit keyboard and internal organs, we've still been aching to know how the bigger and badder Core i7-powered Envy 17 stands up. With a 1920 x 1080-resolution 17.3-inch display, 1GB of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics, a USB 3.0 port and Blu-ray drive, can you really blame us? There's no doubt that the Envy 17 is one epic desktop replacement, but for $1,599 (the starting price is $1,299) we've got to tell you you're not purchasing perfection. Just what holds back the Envy 17 from being the be-all end-all multimedia monster? We'll divulge all in our full review after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-17-review/">HP Envy 17 review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-17-review/#3465479"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/hpenvy171_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-17-review/#3465480"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/hpenvy172_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-17-review/#3465481"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/hpenvy173-1287004430_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-17-review/#3465482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/hpenvy174_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-17-review/#3465483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/hpenvy175_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/hp-envy-17-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP Envy 17 review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/hp-envy-17-review/">HP Envy 17 review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 15:10:00 EST. <i>The</i> gaming laptop of 2010? Maybe so, but it's unquestionably one of the most hyped and most highly anticipated. HP's 14-inch Envy hits a sweet spot in the size department, and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/hp-envy-14-review/">during our time with it</a>, it also managed to hit a slew of other high notes. Of course, it wasn't without its flaws, but that's not what this section is about. We're anxious to hear how you folks feel about your newly (or not-so-newly) acquired Envy 14. Any qualms with the trackpad? Loathing the lack of a VGA output? Still uninstalling bloatware? Frustrated by the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/29/hp-envy-15-and-envy-14-with-radiance-display-no-longer-available/">lack of a Radiance display option</a> at the present time? Go on and tell us what you really think in comments below, particularly how you'd change things if you and Rahul Sood (or similar) switched shoes for a day.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/08/how-would-you-change-hps-envy-14/">How would you change HP's Envy 14?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 08 Oct 2010 22:33:00 EST. Well, this is depressing. Earlier today we were tipped off on disappearance of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hpenvy15">Envy 15</a> on HP's site, and according to the company it'll no longer be available through HP. Obviously, you can still snatch up the 15.6-inch version of HP's magnesium alloy rig through other e-tailers, but there's no telling how long they'll be in stock. The vanishing of the Envy 15 happens to make a lot of sense with the introduction of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy14">Envy 14</a>, but there's also something fishy going on with that one. The machine, which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/hp-envy-14-review/">we do love so</a>, doesn't have an option to be configured with HP's brighter Radiance panel any longer. HP wouldn't comment on future plans, but <em>did</em> confirm that the Radiance panel is no longer available on the 14. We'll be keeping an ear to the ground for further updates, but it's on you to bring the tissues next time.<br />
<br />
Though it's little consolation for nature-loving outdoor laptop enthusiasts, there is a silver lining in this cloud -- the Envy 14's now showing a new set of powerful CPU options, up to and including that 2.66GHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/24/intel-core-i5-580m-speeding-toward-a-fall-release-at-2-66ghz/">Core i5-580M</a> we've been lusting after for months.<br />

We're not sure where <em>CNET</em>'s getting its information, but we're liking what we see -- a streamlined <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HPEnvy/">HP Envy</a>-branded printer with a 3.45-inch touchscreen for apps, games, scanning docs, and yes indeed, occasionally affixing dye to pressed wood pulp at 30 pages per minute. It reportedly has a pair of mechanical paper trays that open and close like a CD drive, and <em>CNET </em>says it'll ship October 4th for $249. Before you take those figures verbatim though, know that they might not be quite right, as the publication also says the $399 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/07/exclusive-hp-photosmart-estation-c510-is-android-powered-zeus/">Android-powered HP Photosmart eStation C510</a> (aka Zeus with 7-inch Zeen tablet) is coming September 13th -- a day when, we're sure you'll agree, the printer failed to arrive. <br />

Also apparently slated for September 13th is the HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus, a full-size all-in-one inkjet model with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, now imbued with HP ePrintCenter apps. Why sit and talk to co-workers around that boring water-cooler, when you can play with your office's printer instead? Two more pictures of the Envy 100 after the break, which is apparently badass enough to come with its own tote bag and 802.11n WiFi.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> We're waiting for the HP IPG summit news conference to begin and, well, three guesses what that is hanging out on stage (pictured above). There's a second shot after the break, with a Yahoo search widget clearly on display.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 2: </strong>Now official, dubbed the Photosmart eStation AIO, and unless our eyes deceive us, we definitely spotted an Android lock screen and status bar. All for $399. There's a partnership in place with Yahoo, including numerous widgets (we've spotted search and weather so far). Something tells us there won't be another search option, but we'll find out for sure and let ya know. It's currently being demoed live on stage. Google Calendar is there, as is a web browser. <br />
<br />

Our tips inbox rarely becomes flooded with news on a surprise laptop release, but such is the vibe that HP's stylish Envy series seems to inspire -- and now it looks as though that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-envy-14-and-17-officially-official-envy-13-slowly-waves-good/">May-officiated 14.5-inch model</a> is on sale for public consumption, albeit with a starting price just one Benjamin higher than expected. Base model nets you a 2.4GHz Intel Core i3-370M, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, 4GB RAM, and a 320GB 7,200rpm HDD... but if you want to go wild and crazy, crank it up to a Core i7, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD for a cool $2,139.99. Well-loved aesthetics are there, and last we heard HP was still touting a possible eight hours of battery life. Your credit card may not be happy, but you could be.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">We can't say we experienced the problem during our time <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/hp-envy-15-review/">reviewing the HP Envy 15</a> (though we certainly had some other issues with it), but a sizable number of users have been reporting a persistent problem with the laptop's display randomly going blank. That's apparently so far gone unremedied by any number of driver updates, with the only "fix" being a forced reboot of the computer. Also problematic is an issue some folks are reporting with the laptop's webcam, which apparently has an odd tendency to only work properly under fluorescent lighting -- move under an incandescent light and everything takes on a distinct purple hue. Head on past the break for a vivid example of that problem, and hit up the source link below for all nineteen pages of complaints about the blank screen issue.<br />

That sexy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy17">HP Envy 17</a> that became official a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-envy-14-and-17-officially-official-envy-13-slowly-waves-good/">few weeks back</a>? It's up for grabs, starting at $1,399 in its base configuration with a Core i5 processor, but getting much higher if you start tickling those option boxes in the customization screens. No word on the Envy 14 yet, but the 13 is still available... for now. Also on offer is the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-pavilion-line-made-over-with-metal-casing-new-a/">refreshed Pavilion line</a>, the dm4, dv5, dv6, and dv7, showing off their new metal casings and swirly paint jobs. The dv6 starts at $699 while the others predictably go on up from there. <br />

No, we wouldn't say we've been looking at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AMD/">AMD</a> lately, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HP/">HP</a> -- but we've got a strong feeling that we're about to with the slew of not-yet-announced processors that are powering these new affordable business laptops. The HP ProBook 4325s, 4425s, and 4525 may look like their brushed-aluminum <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/01/hp-spices-up-probooks-with-core-2010-cpus-clickpads-and-caviar/">business laptop brethren</a>, but instead of Intel inside, they can be configured with AMD's new Phenom II quad-core, Phenom II triple-core, Turion II or Athlon II processors -- all which are apparently 69 percent faster than previous generation HP AMD laptops. Add in an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 530v discrete graphics option and an $619 starting price, and the S-series may just be our new favorite HP sub-brand -- though we'll reserve final judgment until we test these puppies and check out the battery life. In addition to those three, the 14-inch 6445b and 15-inch 6555b pack the same new processor options, but for $799 they have a more durable case with a spill-resistant keyboard. Oh don't worry Intel, the ProBook line hasn't forgotten about you: there's still some Core i3, i5 and i7 love in the new HP ProBook 6450b and 6550b, which now also have vPro remote management technology. <br />
<br />
And just when you thought HP couldn't go any lower in price with its business line up, the 14-inch HP 425 and 15.6-inch 625 emerge at $550. While these guys aren't exactly the thinnest or lightest of the bunch, they should still provide an ample amount of performance with AMD's new 2.3GHz Turion II dual-core, 2.1GHz Athlon II dual-core and V Series processors and ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics. Not a bad time to be in the boardroom, huh? Head down below for some glossy press shots and the full releases. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-probook-s-series-and-b-series-press-shots/">HP ProBook S-Series and B-Series press shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-probook-s-series-and-b-series-press-shots/#2949653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/probookb-series01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-probook-s-series-and-b-series-press-shots/#2949654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/probookb-series02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-probook-s-series-and-b-series-press-shots/#2949655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/probookb-series03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-probook-s-series-and-b-series-press-shots/#2949656"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/probookb-series04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-probook-s-series-and-b-series-press-shots/#2949657"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/probookb-series05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-unleashes-seven-new-probooks-cuddles-up-with-amd/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP unleashes seven new ProBooks, cuddles up with AMD</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-unleashes-seven-new-probooks-cuddles-up-with-amd/">HP unleashes seven new ProBooks, cuddles up with AMD</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 05 May 2010 00:01:00 EST. The existence of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/26/envy-14-envy-17-and-pavilion-dm4-cited-in-hp-support-docs/">14- and 17-inch Envys</a> may not be a shocker, but HP has surely been able to keep some of the more juicy details to themselves -- well, until today that is. Let's start with the external updates that have been made to the all-aluminum machines: both versions now have backlit keyboards, slot-loading optical drives, and on-board DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA jacks. That's pretty much everything we asked for in our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/hp-envy-15-review/">review of the Envy 15</a>, but here's where we politely tell you that the beautiful systems still have the same touchpad, or ClickPad as HP calls it, though it has apparently been significantly retooled on the software end. In our few minutes playing around with the systems it did seem less finicky when we kept one thumb on the left button and used our index finger to navigate the desktop. <br />
<br />
Oh, and we're not done with the meaty updates. Taking the place of the Envy 13 is the $999 14.5-inch Envy 14 -- oh yes, we just said it starts at under a grand -- which packs a Core i5 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon discrete graphics and 7,200rpm hard drive options. Unfortunately, we don't get any of that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/09/nvidia-optimus-automates-graphics-switching-promises-the-best-o/">Optimus graphics technology</a> here, but HP's still claiming up to eight hours of battery life with the discrete GPU turned off. Obviously, the Envy 17 steps it up a notch in the performance arena -- come May 19 the 17-incher will be available with Core i5 and i7 options, ATI graphics that support <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/22/ati-eyefinity-hands-on-we-played-with-the-ultimate-pc-rig-and/">Eyefinity technology</a>, and up to 2TB of storage. Told ya there were still some good nuggets! We promise we'll eventually have a full review, but in the meantime check out the hands-on pics and official PR below. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-press-shots/">HP Envy 14 and Envy 17 press shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-press-shots/#2947818"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvy14presspics01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-press-shots/#2947819"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvy14presspics02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-press-shots/#2947820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvy14presspics03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-press-shots/#2947821"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvy14presspics04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-press-shots/#2947822"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvy14presspics05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-hands-on/">HP Envy 14 and Envy 17 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-hands-on/#2947939"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvyhandsongal01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-hands-on/#2947940"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvyhandsongal02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-hands-on/#2947941"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvyhandsongal03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-hands-on/#2947942"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvyhandsongal04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-14-and-envy-17-hands-on/#2947943"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/hpenvyhandsongal05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-envy-14-and-17-officially-official-envy-13-slowly-waves-good/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP Envy 14 and 17 officially official, Envy 13 slowly waves goodbye</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/05/hp-envy-14-and-17-officially-official-envy-13-slowly-waves-good/">HP Envy 14 and 17 officially official, Envy 13 slowly waves goodbye</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 05 May 2010 00:01:00 EST. HP's clearly been updating its website with new products <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/20/hp-compaq-airlife-100-specs-revealed-on-its-official-webpage/">over the past few days</a>, but our guess is that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/28/hp-envy-14-envy-17-and-new-elitebooks-leak-onto-the-scene/">Envy 17</a> that was just added to the domain slipped through a bit early. We wish there were more details thrown up there, but unfortunately the spec and data sheet pages come up blank. One of our eagle-eyed editors did spot some fine print indicating that the laptop "may require" a separate DVD drive to upgrade Windows 7, so our guess is that the 17-incher -- like its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/hp-envy-13-review/">Envy 13</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/hp-envy-15-review/">Envy 15</a> brethren -- lacks an integrated optical drive. We assume it shouldn't be all that long before HP officially comes clean about this multimedia system, but we're just hoping they plan on cramming some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/09/nvidia-optimus-automates-graphics-switching-promises-the-best-o/">NVIDIA Optimus</a> and Core i7 in there to sweeten the deal. <br />

<div style="text-align: left;">We know that you really had your heart set on that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/26/envy-14-envy-17-and-pavilion-dm4-cited-in-hp-support-docs/">14-inch</a> Envy, but until they finally arrive from Shangri-La, the "mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains" (the same place whose Apple Stores stock the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/13/iphone-nano-now-rumored-for-june-unicorn-delayed-again-until-se/">iPhone nano</a>, incidentally) might we offer you a cut-rate 15-inch model as a consolation prize? As brought to our attention by the savvy shoppers at <em>I4U News</em>, the company is currently offering a $450 rebate on your next HP Envy 15 Core i5 (2.26GHz) lappy. And what's more, your $950 sale price includes shipping -- and not on the back of a unicorn, either. Just head on over to the HP store (hit the coverage link), throw in a 640GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive (you have to do this part -- it'll bring your total up to $1,399 and make you eligible for the free shipping) and apply coupon code NBMY33241 at checkout.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/31/hp-envy-15-shipping-for-950-after-rebate/">HP Envy 15 shipping for $950 after rebate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 31 Mar 2010 11:41:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Hardcore HP-heads have been poring over support docs tirelessly looking for indications that a presumed lineup refresh this spring will include <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/28/hp-envy-14-envy-17-and-new-elitebooks-leak-onto-the-scene/">previously leaked Envy 14 and 17-inch models</a>, and what do we have here? "HP Support Assistant CVA documentation, SP47326&Prime; includes references to both, meaning that a release is either in the works or someone in support is jumping the gun a bit. If that ain't enough for your casual Friday kicks, a perusal of a little something called "LightScribe System Software CVA documentation, SP47798" (that one's our fave) even mentions the HP Pavilion dm4, which <em>SlashGear</em> describes as a possible "14-inch machine with integrated optical drive, switchable graphics and a choice of Intel or AMD processors." Of course, there is no indication when, or if these models will ever see the light of day -- but if you were in desperate need for a device to fill the gab between your 13-inch and 15-inch HP Envy laptops, there is at least hope.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/26/envy-14-envy-17-and-pavilion-dm4-cited-in-hp-support-docs/">Envy 14, Envy 17, and Pavilion dm4 cited in HP support docs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 26 Mar 2010 15:33:00 EST. It's still sort of weird to see an Envy laptop and <i>not</i> see <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/07/how-would-you-change-the-voodoo-envy-133/">a Voodoo badge</a> following along, but as Rahul Sood has <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/voodoos-rahul-sood-emerges-from-hiding-gives-us-all-the-low-do/">so eloquently explained</a>, it's HP's burden to bear from here on out. We got a chance to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/hp-envy-13-review/">toy around</a> with the smaller of the two a few months ago, and since then, the company <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/hp-updates-envy-13-and-envy-15-laptops-lowers-prices-significan/">lowered the asking prices</a> for both while simultaneously updating the specifications. For those who've managed to procure either of the editions, we're curious to hear what you think about HP's first Voodoo-free Envy laptops. Is the trackpad up to snuff? How's the display? Is the performance satisfactory given the price? Can you use it without torching your lap? Spill your innermost thoughts in comments below -- you know we won't judge you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/19/how-would-you-change-hps-envy-13-15-laptops/">How would you change HP's Envy 13 / 15 laptops?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 22:30:00 EST. HP has become what appears to be the first company to actually ship a laptop featuring <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/USB30/">USB 3.0</a>. According to a rep speaking with <em>CNET</em>, if you order an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Envy15/">Envy 15</a> with a Core i7 processor and an ATI 5830 GPU, the new ports come along for the ride. Feeling patient? Not to worry, we're pretty sure this crazy USB 3.0 thing isn't an isolated incident -- expect more machines to support it soon enough, including HP's own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/hp-refreshes-probook-and-elitebook-lines-with-core-i7-processors/">EliteBook</a> in just a few weeks' time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/14/hp-now-shipping-select-envy-15-models-with-usb-3-0/">HP now shipping select Envy 15 models with USB 3.0</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 14 Jan 2010 07:18:00 EST. HP's Envy lineup was introduced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/15/hp-envy-13-and-15-bring-luxury-to-the-everyman-look-like-macboo/">way back</a> in the dark ages of <i>last decade</i>, so it's clearly due for a significant update. In all seriousness, the refresh that popped up today for both rigs probably has a lot more to do with Intel's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Arrandale/">Arrandale</a> unveiling than anything else, but whatever the case, we'll take it. The Envy 15 now starts at just $1,299.99 (down from $1,699.99), and it includes Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), a 2.4GHz Core i5-520M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory and a downright delicious 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830. The 13-incher has seen its base price lowered by $300 to just $1,499.99, with specs now including a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SL9300, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 (512MB) and a 4-cell battery. Both models can be customized right now, but you should probably wait 'til <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CES/">CES</a> concludes before making any rash decisions about the here and now. <br />

Sourced from HP's Korean site, this little ditty reveals Envy 14 and Envy 17 models, which <em>both</em> tick the 'HP external USB DVD Drive' category, bringing up the intriguing possibility of a 17-inch laptop without an integrated optical drive. The bigger machine is also listed alongside "new" 6- and 9-cell battery packs, but other internal specs remain unknown. In other news, successors to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/02/hps-2730p-elitebook-tablet-pc-reviewed-seriously-loved/">Elitebook 2730p tablet</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/hps-rugged-elitebook-2730p-tablet-and-2530p-laptop-for-suits-an/">2530p ultraportable</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/13/hp-elitebook-8730w-gets-the-hands-on-treatment/">8730w desktop replacement</a> have been spotted, with 16:9 display ratios on the smaller machines and 16:10 on the 17-inch workstation. Hit the read link for more details, and keep it locked to the Engadget channel as CES hits in a few days' time, when a lot of these sketchy leaks will be replaced by exhaustive spec sheets and full-color, in-the-metal photography. <br />

There are laptops and then there are <em>laptops</em>. The Envy 15 has fallen into that second category ever since we got <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/15/hp-envy-13-and-15-bring-luxury-to-the-everyman-look-like-macboo/">our hands-on</a>: it's the first PC we've seen that really equals the MacBook Pro's unibody design and it packs a scorching-fast Intel Core i7 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 graphics and Beats speakers. On paper, this is easily the hottest laptop we've seen in some time, but has HP really managed to deliver on that promise? We spent a few days with this $1,800 monster, so read on to see if it lives up to the hype. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-review/">HP Envy 15 review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-review/#2525006"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/2009-12-10envygal-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-review/#2525000"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/2009-12-10envygal-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-review/#2525001"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/2009-12-10envygal-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-review/#2524997"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/2009-12-10envygal-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-review/#2525008"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/2009-12-10envygal-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/hp-envy-15-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP Envy 15 review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/hp-envy-15-review/">HP Envy 15 review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Dec 2009 17:45:00 EST. After our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/hp-envy-13-review/">mixed feelings on the HP Envy 13</a>, we were excited but also a little bit scared to see the 13's big brother, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Envy15/">Envy 15</a>. It's running a Core i7 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, and has 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 discrete graphics fronted by a 1920 x 1080 15.6-inch display despite the fact that it doesn't have a built-in disc drive. Luckily there's an external Blu-ray packed into the box (that's a $225 option on top of the $1,800 base price), but most games and apps these days are available via download anyway, so it's not that big of knock on your power-user cred. The unboxing experience is actually identical to that of the Envy 13 (quite elegant), and we were happy to see that when we fired up the laptop the trackpad seemed better configured than that of the pre-update Envy 13 we reviewed. We were less enthused to see that the IE comes pre-installed with HP <em>and</em> Norton toolbars -- pretty janky for a premium machine -- but luckily we rarely have to see the ugly sight of IE more than once on a new machine. For the most part this is just an Envy 13 bigged up, and that's nothing to complain about. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-unboxing/">HP Envy 15 unboxing</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-unboxing/#2441092"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/hp-envy-15-unbox-01-1257887632_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-unboxing/#2441093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/hp-envy-15-unbox-02-1257887633_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-unboxing/#2441094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/hp-envy-15-unbox-03-1257887633_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-unboxing/#2441095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/hp-envy-15-unbox-04-1257887633_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-15-unboxing/#2441096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/hp-envy-15-unbox-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/10/hp-envy-15-unboxing-and-hands-on/">HP Envy 15 unboxing and hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 16:21:00 EST. We'll keep this short and sweet -- the same amateur sleuths who were responsible for revealing the majority of HP's fall lineup <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/07/hp-dm1-and-dm3-ultraportables-leaked-pavilion-dv8-to-pack-core/">ahead of time</a> are back again, this time indicating a forthcoming Envy 14 model. It doesn't take much genius to find this information out, mind you, as HP's Softpaq support docs just keep coming out ahead of official announcements. Two Envy 14 iterations appear to be in the works, though their specifications remain open to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/rumor">speculation</a>. There still shouldn't be too much of a wait before finding out if this will be just a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy">range filler</a> or a distinctive advancement in its own right, so we'll leave it to you to decide whether to delay that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/hp-envy-13-review/">Envy</a> purchase for just a little while longer.<br />

Since today really needs a good heap of news to somewhat balance out <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/17/dells-2000-adamo-xps-launching-october-22-with-heat-sensing-op/">yesterday's</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/17/verizons-anti-iphone-gets-its-first-commercial-droid-does/">glut</a>, HP has updated its online store to give it an abundance of new and revised <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/">Windows 7</a> machines, including the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Envy/">Envy</a> series (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/18/hp-and-dr-dre-team-up-to-shill-a-limited-edition-envy-15/">Beats edition</a> and all), Pavilion <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dm3/">dm3</a> with AMD Neo or Intel CULV chips, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Corei7/">Core i7</a>-packing dv6t/ dv7t / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dv8">dv8t</a> Quad editions, and the not-so-netbook <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/13/compaq-cq61-does-15-6-inch-screen-and-real-processor-for-399/">CQ61</a>. We're still not seeing the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/28/touchscreen-hp-pavilion-dv3-leaks-out-brings-dm1-ultraportable/">previously-leaked dm1</a> ultraportable anywhere, but the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mini311/">Mini 311</a> and a slightly updated Mini 110 are, with the option to jump from Windows XP to 7 for a cool $50 / $30 respectively. Most everything in the store, desktops and laptops, has been updated to at least include Windows 7 as the standard shipping OS, and while all claim free 2-day shipping, estimated shipping dates begin sometime the week after 7's Oct 22nd launch -- no early chances here, folks. Browse the read links and keep an eye on the shiny red "new" icons (no flashing GIFs, we're afraid) for the entire revised lineup.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>As a number of you have pointed, the Envy product page is a bit, well, sloppy. Typos and missing commas notwithstanding, it seems to biggest laugh is the cost of customization, i.e. $800 more to <em>downgrade</em> from a 500GB HDD to 320GB or 250GB (same price), or $900 more to downgrade from 6GB or 4GB of DDR3 memory. Yeah, it might be best to hold off on that one until HP get the kinks worked out.<br />

<div>In more ways than one, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy13">HP Envy 13</a> seems like a "new generation" of PC laptop for HP or even the industry. Intentional or not it bears more in resemblance with Apple's lineup than its own predecessors, it's part of the very first wave of computers with Windows 7 pre-installed, it places a large emphasis on battery life but still manages great performance, and it's a "luxury" PC that actually provides some pretty good excuses for its inflated pricetag. We've spent a nice solid week with the laptop, so find out if the Envy 13 can live up to its promise after the break.</div>

We've got one of HP's sexiest laptops ever staring us down here, the brand new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/envy13">Envy 13</a>. It hits the streets on October 18, running Windows 7 and brazenly demanding a $1,700 base price tag. Worth every penny? Perhaps. We'll be going more in depth with the laptop over the next few days, but here are a few first impressions.
<ul>
    <li>This is one sexy laptop. It's incredibly quality in its construction, and intensely attractive. The screen in particular is a knockout, showing up very bright and vibrant behind its glossy, mirror-tastic sheen</li>
    <li>The single button trackpad is severely miscalibrated, and perhaps an altogether bad idea. We're having trouble scrolling consistently, but clicking is also a hit or miss affair -- having multiple fingers on the trackpad at the same time seems problematic, with our cursor glitching this way and that. It's also actually possible (likely even, if you're as bad at mousing as we are) to "click" the pad and yet have nothing happen, which seems very counterintuitive.</li>
    <li>The keyboard is comfortable, but has a bit of a loose, pushover feel to the key action -- not cheap, but not really best-in-class either.</li>
    <li>Boot time is pretty snappy, even with the quick boot Envy "Instant-On Solution" Linux acting as a pit stop along the way.</li>
    <li>With a full Core 2 Duo processor inside and a real feeling of heft and thickness compared to other laptops in "thin and light" land, it's surprising that the Envy 13 goes with the same external Ethernet dongle of its predecessor, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Envy133/">Envy 133</a>.</li>
    <li>That full-powered processor? Snappy. It takes on YouTube HD, the real computer killer of our times, without breaking a sweat.</li>

The great thing about a "luxury" laptop like this (as HP dubs it) is that there's so much more to explore, including an external Blu-ray drive in the box, the endless wire-free adventures promised by the optional slice battery, and of course the real prowess of the GPU when faced with 3D gaming and some HDMI output. Good times shall be had, we promise you that. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-13-unboxing/">HP Envy 13 unboxing</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-13-unboxing/#2326578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/envy-13-unbox-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-13-unboxing/#2326581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/envy-13-unbox-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-13-unboxing/#2326574"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/envy-13-unbox-07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-13-unboxing/#2326584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/envy-13-unbox-08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-envy-13-unboxing/#2326573"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/envy-13-unbox-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/30/hp-envy-13-unboxing-and-first-impressions/">HP Envy 13 unboxing and first impressions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 00:01:00 EST.
