  • The Wolf Among Us bitten by season pass issues on Xbox 360

Following yesterday's release of the second episode of Telltale's The Wolf Among Us, those who purchased a season pass on the Xbox 360 began reporting problems with their game. "I bought the season pass but there is only an option to buy [Episode 2], no option to download it with the season pass," reads one of the few complaints suitable for publication. 17 pages of comments follow that remark, the majority of which claim that owners of the season pass are not being given immediate, gratis access to Episode 2, despite having already paid for the entirety of The Wolf Among Us. Telltale Games has yet to offer users a solution, but says that Microsoft is looking into the issue. "Note: Microsoft is investigating a current issue regarding season passes for TWAU on 360 and will supply progress updates via @XboxSupport," Telltale tweeted. So far, the @XboxSupport Twitter account hasn't mentioned The Wolf Among Us, nor provided additional information on this problem. Update: Telltale has issued a more comprehensive statement, noting that the issue stems not from the developer but instead from ongoing problems with DLC on the Xbox 360. "We are aware of the issue on XBOX Live Marketplace affecting Season Pass owners of The Wolf Among Us where the user is still prompted to purchase Episode 2 even though they own the Season Pass. There appears to be an issue on XBOX Live affecting multiple titles with DLC offerings and Microsoft is actively working to resolve the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and are hopeful it will be resolved soon." [Image: Telltale Games]

  • To the Moon hits Steam September 7, next episode incoming

After teasing in April that a launch would happen "soon," Freebird Games' To the Moon is officially hitting Steam on September 7.To the Moon has been on our radar since last year, when it made our 2011 Best of the Rest roundup. Back then it was available on the developer's site and on Desura, but it was absent on Steam, a service with a wider audience, higher profile and where a game of To the Moon's caliber truly belonged. To the Moon will be available in English, French and German, and likely Italian and Korean, Freebird's Kan Gao says.Freebird is working on another episode of To the Moon, featuring the same doctors invading another dying person's memories in the attempt to make their patient's greatest wish come true, mentally, at least. In April, Gao said To the Moon will be free on Steam to those who purchased it previously, and that it wouldn't include Steamworks, since it's such a short game anyway. Gao confirms that To the Moon won't use Steamworks for achievements or saves, but "it's possible that a new form of cloud saves will be used."Those who bought To the Moon from Freebird's site, and only from Freebird's site, will get a Steam version for free. This will be on a request basis, since Gao has to manually email each person with a free code. He'll announce an email account for retrieving free codes once it's all set up.

According to these stats from the second episode of The Walking Dead, not all of you are cold, calculative survivors – the majority remained calm and made moral decisions. Well, as moral as possible in a post-apocalyptic nightmare, anyway.

As a franchise, The Walking Dead has taught me plenty: Don't use a gun when you can use a crossbow, you can't trust anyone (especially your friends), and everyone you love will die, probably violently and with little dignity. Telltale's The Walking Dead: Episode 2 - Starved for Help has added to that wisdom with one more important, life-altering lesson: Don't reformat your computer without backing up the save files of a game that is heavy on story and individual choices. When I finished Episode 1 on May 1, I was proud of myself for choosing all of the minority actions, ready to set off on a unique storyline for the four following installments. When I reformatted my computer on May 12, it failed to cross my mind that maybe I should check my Steam files first. This is a lesson I won't soon forget.Luckily, unlike many of the characters in The Walking Dead, I get to live and learn, and to begin a fresh story with random choices in the second episode. I have a pretty terrible memory, so I figured I'd be able to assimilate any arbitrarily generated choices with reality fairly easily – any of them except one. The climax of the first episode presents players with a high-tension, life-and-death (literally) decision, and I knew that I had ended the game with Doug, the robot enthusiast, by my side. If Starved for Help didn't start me with my little robot-loving, nerd buddy, I'd flip. Fortunately for my blood pressure, I got Doug on the first boot-up, and all was well.As well as surviving the zombie apocalypse can be, anyway.%Gallery-149821%

  • Daily iPhone App: Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 brings Sonic back again

The big question with Sonic games is always if it's as good as the old titles on the Sega Genesis and the Dreamcast, and as usual, the answer here with Sonic 4 Episode 2 (yes, that's how they're releasing these) is unfortunately no. But that's not really a bad thing -- this is pretty good 2D Sonic, put together with quality graphics and plenty of content to play through. It won't compare to the old titles (because what does, really?), but if you're just looking for Sonic and Tails to run around in a colorful world, you'll get it here. Yes, Tails is back in this one, and he and Sonic team up to run, do a little flying, and race through lots and lots of levels together. You can even hook up with two players over Bluetooth, one on Sonic and the other on Tails. Just like the last Sonic on iOS, the proceedings are plenty colorful, varied from stage to stage, and while the controls are only virtual (actually, iCade compatibility would be a nice bonus here), they work about as well as virtual controls can. Sonic 4 Episode 2 isn't a bad game at all, though like all of the other Sonic titles out there, it probably won't live up to your memories of what the series once was. If you want old school Sonic action, and wouldn't mind seeing Tails in 2D after quite a while away, the game's available for $6.99 in a universal version right now.

  • Black Prophecy escalates the species war with Episode 2

"The time of peace has ended," gamigo writes in the introduction to the second major content update for Black Prophecy. We weren't under the impression that this was a tranquil game up to this point, but we suppose it's going to get a lot less peaceful with the introduction of warzones. Episode 2: Species War takes PvP to a much more intense place, as players will be encouraged to duke it out for the control of strategic locations in space. By pulling up the warzone tab, ship captains can identify where the contested borders are and zip right over to them. Up to 200 players can engage in a single warzone, pursuing multiple objectives with the ultimate goal of capturing the command center. By participating, players will not only earn honor points, but XP and loot as well. Black Prophecy is adding rare blueprints that can be purchased with these honor points. The update addresses the game balance in several ways, such as equalizing the benefit of shields and hulls. Players will receive a free skill reset because of the changes. To celebrate Episode 2's release, gamigo is throwing two consecutive bonus PvP XP weeks, from September 21st through October 6th. %Gallery-131819%

Black Prophecy's next patch is upon us: Episode 2: Species War launched on the game's public test server this morning. This patch opens up the Warzone section of the starmap. Warzones are contested areas, and as each faction conquers a zone, bonuses are granted to members of that faction. If a faction controls adjacent warzones, then pilots are awarded experience bonuses as well. Tyi and Genide pilots, all-out PvP is heading your way. Get ready! The rules for conquering a warzone are simple. Each of these new zones consists of three outposts, a support sector, and a command center. Holding all three outposts simultaneously opens the pathway to the command center. Command centers have nine capture points with one active point at a time. If attackers control all nine points before 20 minutes, then the zone is theirs. However, if the defenders successfully prevent that from happening, they are rewarded for each capture point defended. Players of both factions gain points based on kills within the warzone sector. Check the the new official screenshots in the gallery below. %Gallery-131819%

The Knights of Good have finally made it to the gaming convention but, as usual, things don't go very well for them. Everyone has to share the same room at the hotel (been there), with Zaboo sleeping under a coffee table (done that). Bladezz's shower spying and Vork's (amazing as usual) food theft are high moments. I am excited for more convention antics in the coming weeks. The Guild has been hitting its stride in the past few seasons, and it remains a quality watch. Check out this week's episode, with new episodes hitting Xbox Live on Tuesdays and MSN video on Thursdays.

New content is on the way for fans of Soul of the Ultimate Nation, and Webzen has just announced the impending release of a global trial server for the game's Episode 2 patch. The new shard will go live on April 28th, and it aims to give players a preview as well as collect feedback prior to the patch's official release. Episode 2 brings major changes to the game including a new leveling system, itemization changes, and new quests. Webzen's press release states that the revamp should "please various gamers with its simple yet strategic gameplay." In addition to the leveling adjustments, Episode 2 introduces the custom passives system whereby players may tweak their avatars' abilities via customizable buffs. The mechanic is intended to encourage grouping between new and old players, and the resultant buffs will stay active as long as the party remains intact. Here's some quick hits on a few big name releases across Apple platforms. First up, the funny and addictive DS hit Phoenix Wright has made its way to the iPhone, and you can pick it up for US $4.99. While it's kept the two-screen gameplay from Nintendo's handheld, it's still a great time. Square Enix has released another original title for the iPad; Chocobo Panic is a cute little puzzle/action game in which you grab and release the Final Fantasy-famous birds. Those expecting anything deeper will be disappointed, but if you want a fun touchscreen game with the slimmest of Final Fantasy ties, I hear it's fun. Finally, as announced yesterday, Half Life 2 is now available for the Mac via Steam. And it tuns out that Episodes 1 and 2 have been released as well. The game itself is a jaw-dropping $7, and you can get the two add-ons for $5.59 each. If you already own them on Steam, they're all available via Steam Play, so that means you already own them on the Mac, too; just head into Steam and download away. AAA companies releasing games natively on Apple platforms? Man, it's a great time to be a Mac gamer.

Wowcrendor has released a follow up to his World of Warcraft Instructional Video. He's changed the naming convention a tad, now calling it the World of Warcraft 101, Episode 2 -- The City Life. This sequel's focused on Billy's first time wandering into Orgrimmar. The video is smile-worthy enough to watch a couple of times, and I think it's fun for quick, low-pressure viewing. The video uses all the same tactics and gags as the first one, though, so I'm not sure how much more play it has left along those lines. WoW 101 is certainly a good idea, but maybe adding another voice actor would help expand the universe for any further episodes. If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch

Another "gone gold" announcement today, this time for Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 2. The second part of the On The Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness series is now in the can and ready to release onto the PSN store "this fall." Actually, the press release states that the PSN version will probably launch shortly after the Mac, Linux, Windows and 360 versions. Hopefully that's a matter of days later, not weeks (to coincide with the Thursday PSN releases, we suspect). The pricing for the game will be $14.95.Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 1 will no doubt release before then, too. If you've already played it on another system, it might be worth picking it up for the trophies, and for the ability to transfer your character data over between episodes. If you've not played the game yet, it's an 3D turn based RPG with a Penny Arcade art and writing style. If that sounds good to you, rejoice in the fact that you have two episodes to look forward to this Autumn.%Gallery-28423%

The plot thickens as Episode 2, directed by Trace Sanderson, of the series sheds more light on the downfall of Scion City. The citizens relied on the sun for power, but when a great darkness came over the island, they only had one hour of it per day. Some colonists fled to the outer asteroids, which is where the group of explorers, whom we now know to be part of the founding Interstellar Colonists, came from. This led to two factions being formed in order to horde the energy. The Augmentationists, or Auggies, converted their cars into armor, and the Immersionists, or Mershers, became human machines that merged their bodies with SciTek. However, neither side won, as they lost all sunlight. One of the colonists is still having a sense of deja vu and is determined to rescue the mysterious lady. Poor Phaylen just can't seem to get a job in Second Life, and when she does, she can't seem to hold it. In the second episode of the DiVAS series, our heroine is on an epic quest for money, in "You Better Work". As previously mentioned, I'm not sure that this Machinima would fall under the comedy category so much as it would dark humor.During her job interviews, various disasters strike. She doesn't have many talents, but she will write her contact info on a tampon, put your dog in a dangerous situation to win you over, dance like a maniac while wearing bondage gear, turn your children into poultry, and beat you up if you laugh at her. I can see why she decided to play fair and wear an actual nametag in the end. I guess we'll have to wait until episode 3 to see if she actually gets a job ...

Half-Life 2: Orange, as we now call it, has been forever delayed and will only show up much later this year. But what are eager Half Life fanboys supposed to do until that time comes ... wait? Yes, you will have to wait, but Valve understands your pain by offering some screenshot love. They just released a massive amount of screens from the Half-Life 2: Orange bundle including Portal and Team Fortress 2. All the games are looking pretty good, but Portal and Team Fortress 2 lack visual goodness that Half-Life 2 offers, which is probably intended. Check out the nifty gallery Joystiq put up and come back to post your thoughts on what is sure to be one great compilation.

Soon, Half-Life 2: Episode 2 will be making its way onto the Xbox 360 and will be bundled with a bunch of other goodies. And those guys over at Valve found an easy way to identify the new compilations ... by color. The Xbox 360 (PC and PS3) will be getting what is known as the Half-Life 2: Orange bundle. Included is the original Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episodes 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. The orange package will set you back a reasonable $59.99. For our PC brethren they have one other option called Half-Life 2: Black. This bundle will include Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal and will cost $39.99. The Black bundle is for those PC gamers that already purchased Half-Life 2 and Episode 1. Phew ... there you have it. But is anyone a little turned off by the whole color coding system?

  • HL2: Episode Two delayed till 2007

    by
    Ludwig Kietzmann

    08.24.2006

Valve Software has been one of the main proponents in the push for episodic gaming, a fact which quickly comes to mind in light of Half-Life 2: Episode Two getting its own push into the future. Releasing Half-Life 2 expansion episodes in lieu of Half-Life 3 was supposed to curb development time, something which Valve is always struggling to keep on a leash before it wrecks the office and eats all the calendars. Alas, it has run amok once again, causing Episode Two to slip to February 2007. In other words, the release gap between the first and second "episodes" has now grown to 8 months. Valve's Doug Lombardi tells Eurogamer that the delay is simply "classic Valve being overly aggressive on our dates" and that the title will likely end up being a "little longer" than the first title. A further point of consideration is that Episode Two is being developed in conjunction with several other included games (Portal, Team Fortress 2) and console versions. Lombardi also states that the extra games will result in a slightly higher price than that of the single Episode One release ($19.99), with the all-inclusive console releases expected to retail at full price. With any luck, this will be the last delay in store for Valve's upcoming release -- otherwise, we'll have to start questioning just how far the word "episodic" can stretch.
