Have we not shown enough enthusiasm for Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings? Does Square Enix think that we're not writhing with anticipation over this game? We thought it was pretty clear that we'll be there on day one with our faces pressed to the door, but apparently someone thinks that we still need to be lured in with a bevy of gorgeous videos. Maybe we should play hard to get more often.Jeux France has the latest embedded on their site, as well as some new screens. Go check it out, because every day is a good day for a little Final Fantasy.

  • Patrick Stewart to voice Final Fantasy XII (the ad)

Square Enix figured a little dose of Patrick Stewart would help generate sales of Final Fantasy XII in Europe and Australia, so the publisher signed up the ever-bold(-ly exploring) voice for the game's ad campaign, which begins next week. Stewart does not provide actual in-game voice-work for FFXII, but he did win Spike TV's 'Best Performance by a Human (male)' for his work in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Stewart's voice has also been cast in the upcoming TMNT film; out next month.Final Fantasy XII will launch in Europe and Australia on February 23; the ads begin rolling on February 19.

  • Shiva makes Revenant Wings a family affair

Jeux France is reporting a juicy rumor about espers in FFXII: Revenant Wings. Not only is Shiva rumored to be included, but the super hot (cold?) ice goddess is bringing along a few members of her family. Apparently, there will be others, like a male version (Shiva's husband), and a young female child Shiva. We're not sure what role these might play, but it definitely makes for an interesting rumor. Jeux France expects confirmation (or negation) soon.If this is true, we just hope that Little Shiva finds a few more scraps of clothing, or it may change the game just a little, and we'll be facing another one of these situations.

  • FFXII themed DS Lite revealed for Japan

In conjunction with the April 26 release of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for DS, Square Enix and Nintendo are set to release a special edition of the DS Lite with the FFXII:RW logo and a few main characters emblazoned on the front. Square Enix did a similar promotion for the DS release of Final Fantasy III. Though the extra cost to paint an industrial-strength sticker is probably minimal, it's not like Nintendo needs any help selling the consoles in Japan. A release outside of Japan is very unlikely for the limited edition console, so those desperate for a unit will have to import. However, we have a better suggestion: wait for someone to post a high-resolution image and then make your own sticker to put on that DS Lite (or DS Phat) you're already using.

Looks like someone decided that they needed to move a few more DS Lites in Japan, since sales have been flagging. The poor handheld has really struggled to gain a foothold. Sigh. Maybe this spankin' new limited edition DS Lite will do the trick. We do hear that this Final Fantasy series is a little on the popular side. Seriously, this new FFXII: Revenant Wings DS Lite (aka the Sky Pirates edition) is pretty slick, though a little understated, as you can see after the jump. Who wants to start betting on whether or not this will beat those crazy early sales for Final Fantasy III?

We don't normally display boxart here on DS Fanboy, but we do tend to make exceptions. Revenant Wings dresses to impress with minimalistic flair; its DS predecessor was also rather impressive. A beauty, no?Square-Enix is bombarding the DS with meteor showers of love. Here's a little "DS Bi-Daily" for ya: do you think Square-Enix's support means as much as it once did? By diversifying its game library and stepping into the realms of spin-offs and direct sequels, many feel as though they've watered down the intense quality of software they once provided. Or are we just insane? Still, We await FFXII: RW with open and eager arms.

The official Japanese website for Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings has been live for a bit on the series of tubes that make up the internet. Now, through this wondrous website, one may access a nice little trailer on the main page, as well as some cool downloads. The downloads include desktop wallpapers and a promotional video from Jump Festa 2007. Other things, such as the game's prologue and character descriptions, are in Japanese and able to stand up to our most deadly translation bots.See also: Revenant Wings media explosion

All sorts of assets in the form of screens and concept art have popped up over at IT Media for the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. With several shots taken from in-game, as well as the concept art, we find ourselves honestly frightened. Not frightened at the prospect of where the game is going, mind you, but scared that this is the new cactuar design. It very well could not be, since Google translation isn't always accurate, however it's enough to cause us concern.Check out the rest of what you're looking for here.

  • Yet another 'games to watch' list

We can only guess that it wasn't enough for the DS to steamroll everything and everyone in 2006. Nintendo wants to own 2007, as well. Not that we're complaining; after all, we are total slaves to our beloved handheld. But it just seems altogether crazy that there could be so many lists predicting great games in the coming year, and that the lists could vary so much. No matter your pleasure, 2007 is bound to be packed with more DS games than you can possibly afford. And in celebration of our future indecision, IGN has offered a list celebrating ten of the best coming games for the year. We've included the full IGN list after the jump, and we'd love to hear how it compares to some of the other lists you've seen since the end of last year, because there's been a ton. We've even dipped a toe into the list-making process ourselves.

Did you read my hands-on of Atlus' upcoming PSP-exclusive RPG, Monster kingdom: Jewel Summoner? The game has some serious talent behind it, especially in the music department. The RPG features works from celebrated composers, listed below: Shinji Hosoe (Ridge Racer series) Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII) Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenosaga) Kenji Ito (Sword of Mana) Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter II) Masaharu Iwata (Final Fantasy Tactics) Tsukasa Masuko (Shin Megami Tensei series) Yasuyuki Suzuki (Doshin the Giant) Ayako Saso (Phantom Kingdom) Takahiro Ogata (Shin Megami Tensei NINE) The soundtrack to the game features 44 tracks from these famous composers, and samples can be heard on Atlus' newly opened official website for the game. The game hits stores on February 13th. Expect a full review closer to that date.

While we've seen some gameplay screens before from FFXII: Revenant Wings, some of these are at least bigger, if not better. High quality shots seem to be hard to come by, but Japanese print magazines have been the biggest resource thus far on this game. Once you accept a little graininess, however, these look pretty great. Check 'em out after the jump!

It's about bloody time news now, with Square Enix announcing the official release date for Final Fantasy XII in PAL territories. Arriving on February 23rd (that's 2007), role-playing fans in Europe are the last to receive a game rife with political intrigue, androgynous street urchins and bunny-eared vixens. We think that might actually be the description on the back of the box. There's no mention of a fancy collector's edition, but rumor has it that the game itself is well worth the asking price. Particularly impatient gamers would do well to pick up Okami in the meantime -- it's finally out in Europe on February 9th.

A pair of pages featuring Final Fantasy XII from Famitsu magazine have been scanned and shot through the vast series of tubes that comprise the internet, eventually arriving on our digital doorstep. We now present said scans to you in an act of surrender kindness we hope will be valued. You're good people and deserve good scans. We'd include the scans past the post break, but they're fairly huge and would break the site's tables. Also, we'd translate the info, but our inability to translate Japanese script makes that impossible.Anyone want to take a stab at it?

A trailer for the upcoming Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings has hit the 'net and, in watching it more times than a person honestly should, we've seen some interesting gameplay and characters who will join Vaan and Panelo in their adventure. The video quality doesn't do the game's graphics justice, in our eyes, so we assume to be blown away even more upon getting our hands on the title. As always, video is available past the jump.

And with the screens come the new details. We've already heard that the battle system for FFXII: Revenant Wings will be a simplified version of that in FFXII proper, with specialized stylus functionality -- now we see it in (still) action. Now we also know there is no battle screen -- all fights take place in real time, and the player uses the stylus to position characters for battle. Sounds like a lot for the DS to handle, and we can't wait to see it in action.Check out a few more shots from Vaan and Penelo's upcoming adventure after the jump.

  • Circuit City Final Fantasy XII $37.99 -- for real

    by

Circuit City is selling Final Fantasy XII for $37.99 USD starting this Tuesday, a full $12 less than any of the major U.S. electronic retail stores. Yeah, we're surprised by it as well. Not only does today's Circuit City flyer in your local newspaper have the price listed at $37.99, but the online price is listed as $37.99. It's as real as it gets. Of course, this means nothing to those lucky people that caught CompUSA breaking street date. We've even contacted a few Circuit City stores and, just like other retailers, they say their copies are currently sitting in the warehouse ready for distribution -- but they aren't breaking street date. So, Circuit City has the copies, they are $12 less than anybody else and are ready to pick up first thing when the store opens on Tuesday. Come on, not to be completely jaded, but what's the catch?A call has been placed to Circuit City PR to find out if there is something we are missing and why they are selling the game for such an amazing price. The only thing that doesn't jive is that the flyer says Tuesday, but online says Thursday as release.
