As HD becomes more and more mainstream the variety of HD programming will be more diverse. The latest network to announce that they will add to the HD lineup is the Trinity Broadcasting Network, which claims to be the most popular faith based network. When the network launches this fall it will be a 24/7 HD network and will feature such shows in HD as Hour of Power. There has yet to be an carriage announcement from anyone, but we wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the 100 we expect to see on DirecTV carry after they get their new satellites in operation.

Japanese manufacturers DosPara and Faith have each introduced some pretty high-end build-to-order PCs this week, both packing Intel's new 2.93Ghz Core 2 Extreme QX6800 processor (or configurable with less if that's too much for ya). In addition to that speedy processor, DosPara's recommended configuration boasts a GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card, 2GB of RAM, a 750GB hard drive, and a DVD burner, among other goodies. Opting for Faith's system will give you the slightly beefier GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card as standard, along with 2GB of RAM and a 300GB hard drive. While prices will obviously vary quite a bit depending on the configuration, you can expect to easily blow between $3,000 and $5,000 if one of 'em strikes your fancy.Read - Akihabara News, DosPara's Core 2 Extreme QX6800 BTO PCRead - Akihabara News, Faith's version of BTO PC

  • UK posts signs to ignore navigation systems, avoid perils

Once upon a blue moon, we can only assume that the advent of GPS meant easier navigating for all, as humans thought less about finding a map and more about focusing on the road. Apparently, blokes (and dames) over in England need to revert back to the paper-based method, as the government has been forced to erect warning signs in specific areas in order to get folks to pay attention to their surroundings. Odd as it may sound, the "Do Not Follow SAT NAV" cautions have actually quelled accidents on a narrow road in which drivers of wide vehicles were blindly driving themselves into a literal pinch. The vivid yellow signs have been posted in Exton, near Winchester in Hampshire, and embarrassingly enough, we wouldn't doubt if more make their way around given the Brits' long history of choosing outdated GPS instructions over common sense.

  • Losing Faith in Miss Video Game competition

Faith, of The Girl Gamer, has lost faith in the Miss Video Game competition and decided she can no longer be a part of the "farce and possible scam." After being an early supporter of the competition, which is billed as an event to raise the profile of female gamers, she began digging up information on the company involved and became concerned there were legal issues with the contest.Faith describes that things were suspect from the beginning for the simple fact this competition has no contract or release to sign. Originally the contestants needed to be 18 and over, this rule apparently was ignored as contestants started showing up on the site who were under the age of majority. Faith could not find a business license for the company to operate, eventually she received one from Miss Video Game Inc. stating that the license was issued Nov. 29, 2006 -- two months after the contest began. MVG also informed her that a company called Titan Gaming would handle the online portion of the competition, no such company exists. When attempting to contact the company with the information MVG provided, the email bounced back. The lengthy article goes on to describe increasing evidence that caused Faith to remove herself from the competition. The pageant doesn't require sponsors because they are "backed by a privately owned company that wishes to remain anonymous." She describes numerous problems with the MVG website itself and wonders how if this company can't coordinate a website, how's it going to run a live event? The questions surrounding the event are plenty and we here at Joystiq have also been researching our own concerns regarding the competition. Gamer girl beware.

If Jesus of Nazareth, the "annointed messiah" in the Christian world, were alive today, would he game? Ryan Stone of North Greenville College thinks so, and he points to Halo as a title on which Jesus might earn a few frags. In his words, "I think He, being the almighty Creator, understands that He built into men the want to be a hero. I want to save the world and fly through the galaxy shooting the bad guys and coming out unscathed with a smoking pistol in each hand." We could not say it any better.Stone's article derives from his experiences trying to set up a Halo tournament through his church in order to raise money for Relay for Life, which aids the American Cancer Society. However, some of the chuch members complained, citing not personal experience but "many articles from Focus on the Family and other highly conservative publications" that associated Halo with non-Christian values. But Stone reminds readers how Jesus "fought the conservative and religious people of the day, how he bucked the system."Stone believes Jesus would have played some Halo, and probably rock at it, too. "He'd probably even beat me terribly and make me look like I'd never played. I'd even hope for a little humorous religious smack talking." We agree that many M-rated games could be seen (and rightfully so) contrary to Christian ideals of morality (e.g. every Rockstar game not revolving around table tennis), but as a government soldier who fights to save humanity against an evil alien race or two, Master Chief is a hero. So, to relay his final question, what would Jesus play?[via GamePolitics]
