"Oh man, I can't wait for the New Pork map for Fat Princess. It'll probably cost money and not come out until next year." Well, fictional person made up for this blog post, you are wrong! New Pork, a brand new map revealed during PAX, will be available to all players this Thursday, 10/29, as part of the upcoming 1.03 patch. In addition to the new map, the patch tweaks a number of issues and even introduces two new control methods. "Two new control schemes have been implemented to allow players to use the R1 button to attack and to free the player's right hand for target switching. This is AWESOME," says the PlayStation Blog.Additionally, the no-blood mode now features candy confetti -- a delicious way to kill opponents and make your parents happy. If that's not reason enough to log back on, we don't know what is.

  • Fat Princess bulks up on content for PSP debut

The portable version of Sony's PSN-exclusive darling, Fat Princess, was being demoed by the publisher at yesterday's PSP holiday showcase and looked ... just like the console version. We asked Sony what would set the game apart from its console counterpart -- other than the fact that it's on PSP -- and were enthusiastically told, "It'll feature 50 percent more content!"Okay, that's very nice, but also very vague. So, we of course asked for more details and learned that the game will have a variety of modes not found in the PS3 release, including one where the class hat generators are busted at the beginning of the match and must be repaired using resources before they can be used.Another mode removes the princess from the equation and has players delivering something to their opponents' castle rather than removing it -- a bomb. Sony calls this portable version of the game "Fat Princess 1.5," saying that it also has an expanded single-player component, a new map and the aforementioned new modes (plus some). If there's anything this franchise stresses, it's that "more is better."

Jeff Rubenstein over at PlayStation.Blog recently got a chance to check out Fat Princess' new stompin' grounds at the game's demo booth at PAX -- you'll find his video preview of the Roman-esque New Pork arena posted after the jump. The map not only possesses a visual aesthetic that stands out from the title's pre-existing levels, it's also got a neat instant-travel sewer system and a central resource hub that should lend itself to some fairly hectic skirmishes. Also discussed in the video is the upcoming content patch, which will renovate the ranking system, balance the classes a bit and make the team switching mechanic less exploitable. Not discussed are the quartet of new classes hinted at by Titan Studios last month. We want -- nay, we need ninjas in this game.

Click to see the gory details. If you thought Fat Princess was all about cake, then you were wrong! During PAX, the Titan Studios team announced plans for new DLC for the PSN multiplayer game. The first revelation is a new map entitled "New Pork" that looks more like Rome than a swine-flavored version of New York. Titan Studios is promising new kinds of strategies for use in the new map: "Use multiple sewer shortcuts to sneak up behind your enemies, blow up barricades to open up new routes of assault and defend your princess from the rooftops."According to the dev, this is just "the beginning of additional content for Fat Princess." Considering all the teases leaked so far, we're pretty certain that whatever Titan is cooking up is going to be huge -- fat, even.[Thanks, redskyy!]%Gallery-28044%

Okay, so let's backtrack a bit here. Titan Studios has already invited pirates, ninjas and chefs to the Fat Princess party. Now, it looks like we might see some other royalty: the kings? Titan's been very tight-lipped about all these reveals so far. Makes sense, too, considering the addition of four new classes would change up the game quite a bit! We're wondering if the kings can also succumb to the deadly allure of cake. If so, the battle lines are drawn: pirates versus ninjas, chefs versus kings. We can't wait![Thanks, Kgg!]

You saw pirates ...You saw ninjas ...Now, get ready for the most exciting Fat Princess class of them all: the chef?! Yes, it looks like the PSN multiplayer game will be getting a culinary addition to the pastry-filled battlefield. Once again, Titan Studios teases without saying a word, but we think we can safely assume that cake will be involved.[Thanks, MarcusN!]

Yesterday, Titan Studios teased ninjas for Fat Princess. But what's a ninja to do without the help of their mortal enemies? Looks like PSN's online cake-fest will continue the ages-long saga of the epic battle between ninjas ... and pirates. Predictable? Yes, but far from unwelcome.Who else thinks Titan should go one step further and announce Pirates versus Ninjas ... versus Zombies for Fat Princess?[Thanks, HeavyToka!]

We're not rocket scientists (we told you, we're bloggers), but we're pretty certain a new class is going to be introduced into the Fat Princess world, sparking a whole new "princess versus ninja" meme in the process.[Thanks, Pobthiti!]

Royalty thieves living in North America have been enjoying relatively lag- and disconnection-free online multiplayer in Fat Princess for about a week now. Europeans no longer have a reason to be jealous -- the online-fixing Patch 1.02 is now live in their respective continent. Don't believe us? Go ahead and boot the game up, and you should get the download prompt. See? There. Now, don't you ever dispute our credibility again, or else we're going to have a conversation. With our fists. The only place yet to get the patch is Asia, though Titan Studios promises to have that territory up and running "by the end of the week."

If you were an early adopter of Fat Princess living in North America who was let down by the game's disconnection-prone online multiplayer, you may want to give it another shot -- Titan Studios recently released a patch for the title which is designed to improve server stability, reduce lag, and fix a few in-game bugs (such as broken hat machines and scoring exploits).Fret not, European cake-feeders -- according to a recent blog post announcing the patch's release, the update will be coming to your fair continent next week. Until then, you can always spend your time playing the game's entertaining single-player offerings. Better yet, you can don a silly hat and start throwing cake at ladies in real life. We're sure they'd appreciate that.

As Fat Princess fans have already realized, Titan's portly PSN exclusive is plagued with connection and balance issues; but a fix is on the way. While Titan Studios has yet to put a date on the upcoming patch, it has revealed a list of some of the issues that will be addressed. According to a recent post on the dev's blog, the patch will tackle connection issues, lag, hosting problems, scoreboard errors, dead hat machines and scoring exploits -- to name a few. The plump princess's dev team has also compiled a growing list of balance changes and feature requests based on player feedback for future updates, including the addition of new modes, maps and classes to an already rotund release. Titan promises an online FAQ will be made available soon to address upcoming changes in greater detail -- a full listing of issues and future changes can be found after the break.%Gallery-28044%[Via PS3Center]

Fat Princess players rejoice! Titan Studios announced this weekend that it's hard at work on a patch that will fix the multitude of online multiplayer issues that folks have been dealing with. Notably, FPers have been encountering unsightly lag, causing many a broken heart (and more importantly, lost matches). Titan says that it's well aware of the problems -- thanks in no small part to an active, vocal community -- and that it's "working with Sony now to get the patch into the Sony testing process as soon as possible." The company hasn't released a more specific window for the patch's arrival on PlayStation Network, but we've asked Sony for comment and will update this post when we hear back. Update: Sony has told us that while there isn't a more solid release window set for the patch, we will know as soon as it has one. Sorry, folks! %Gallery-27941% [Thanks, Ian!]

Just another American PSN update today. A little better than normal updates perhaps, thanks to the inclusion of Fat Princess, but it's also a red letter day. As I'll be moving on next week, it's the last time this blogger will be handling the weekly PSN updates -- both American and European -- after over two years. Wow, updates were different back then. Don't worry, though, you'll be in the safe hands of Alexander Sliwinski, who I took over this very post from back when Joystiq underwent restructuring in January. Anyway, what are you still doing here? You've got weighty princesses to rescue! Tomorrow, Fat Princess begins its invading spree. First it'll invade the PlayStation Store, then it'll invade PlayStation Home and then, finally, the game will invade our hearts. The European Home Events space will be decked out with Fat Princess characters and you will be tasked with answering eight questions about the game in order to win slices of cake. Obtaining all eight slices will net you a Princess Throne for your Home apartment. We're not sure whether this space will be available in the US version of Home too, but don't worry Americans, we've got something for you here, too. The Trophy list for Fat Princess has been handed to us on a crumb-littered silver platter, and you can check out some of the hilarious names the devs have dreamt up right now. Our favorite? "The Cake Is Not A Lie," obviously!

Do not adjust your computer internet monitor screens! Yes, today is Wednesday. We know, it's confusing, but you'd best get used to it. SCEE intends on giving us a head's up on the week's PSN content drop a day ahead of release from now on, allowing us 24 hours to get our wallets prepped. This week we're sure you've got your sights firmly set on Fat Princess, but there's also the second episode of Watchmen: The End is Nigh, a Numblast demo and a couple of full PSP titles. Not to mention all the usual rhythm-game DLC for both PS3 and PSP. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

The release date for Fat Princess -- which has been nebulous for a while now -- has finally been nailed down. You'll be playing some class-based cartoony multiplayer (with a dash of bloody ultraviolence) this Thursday, July 30. This is a simultaneous release for American, European and Asian regions -- though a Japanese release date has yet to be confirmed. While the adorable cartoon protagonists will be losing arms and legs liberally, you'll be able to keep yours firmly attached thanks to a reasonable asking price of $15. No doubt European and Asian prices will be announced soon. Make sure you check out the PlayStation Blog for a PlayStation Eye interview with the developers from Titan Studios.

We're not sure who or what put together these images of fattened celebrities in celebration of upcoming PSN title Fat Princess, but we sure do think they're swell terrifying. UK tabloid The Sun has a whole mess of faux fat celebrities images, ranging from everyone's favorite Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham, to supermodel Naomi Campbell.Though information coming out of Europe about Fat Princess' release date -- even from Sony -- has been less than accurate, the piece puts FP on track for an August PSN release. We've contacted Sony of Europe to ask for comment on the release date (as well as give us some idea where in the world these images came from). And no, we have no idea what Madonna has on her head either. It looks like the much anticipated cake binging/capture the flag sim Fat Princess, which was promised to hit the PSN sometime in June, will not make its initial release window. Playstation.Blog Europe's Mike Kebby confirmed that while the game would have a global release date, said date won't be next week, and that we can expect the highly frosted gore fest to drop "at some point this summer." Hopefully the warm summer months won't whittle our precious Fat Princess down to just a Princess. That's not nearly as catchy a title.%Gallery-51374%

It's been a long time coming, but the European PlayStation.Blog has confirmed that Sony's online cake-fest, Fat Princess, will receive a June release. Just in case you didn't notice, that's this month. While the release timetable is only confirmed for Europe, it's likely the PSN capture-the-princess game will find a global release. In addition to Fat Princess, SCEE confirmed June releases for Trash Panic, Numblast and a Ghostbusters demo. PSP owners will be able to expect Ape Academy 2, Everybody's Golf 2, Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow and WipEout Pulse in the European PS Store.%Gallery-27941%
