While version 1.9.7 won't add any new apps to your launcher, it does require some new permissions (phone status), require Android 2.2 and up, and offers some changes for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/05/facebook-messenger-app-update/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">messaging</a> and integrated camera experience. The camera app supports front-mounted shooter, while messaging improves switching between conversations, including friends of friends, sharing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/14/facebook-mobile-site-apps-redesign/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">bigger photos</a> and seeing who is available. There's also various bug fixes, faster app login and navigation plus an unspecified security improvement, so even if your social media experience doesn't include duckfaced self-pics and staying up on the latest gossip, it may be worth grabbing sooner rather than later.</p>

</div>
It's taken a long time for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/21/nokia-n9-first-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Nokia's MeeGo-packing N9</a> to make its way into our top secret labs (the N9 moniker was first applied to early <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/nokia-e7-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">E7</a> prototypes), but it's here in our dirty little hands, at last, and it's glorious -- well, as glorious as a stillborn product can be, anyway. The N9 is the latest and greatest in a long line of quirky, interesting, yet ultimately flawed touchscreen experiments from Nokia that includes the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=7710?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Hildon-sporting 7710</a>, a series of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Maemo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Maemo</a>-based "internet tablets" (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=770?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">770</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=n800?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">N800</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=n810?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">N810</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/19/nokia-n900-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">N900</a>) and most recently, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N950/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">N950</a> MeeGo handset for developers. What makes the N9 special is that it represents Nokia's last flagship phone as an independent player. MeeGo is already dead, and future high-end devices from the manufacturer will run Windows Phone and use Microsoft's services. So, is this the company's final bittersweet hurrah? Did <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MeeGo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">MeeGo</a> ever stand a chance against Android, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/12/ios-5-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iOS</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/27/windows-phone-7-5-mango-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Mango</a>? In its attempt to stay relevant, is Nokia throwing out the baby with the bathwater? Most importantly, how does the N9 fare in today's merciless <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">dual-core world</a>? Find out after the break.<br />

Unlocking your phone doesn't get any easier than a simple patterned swipe or pre-set pin. But for the fussy amongst you, there's an <em>alternative</em> solution to make you feel both confidently futuristic, and downright ridiculous. Facelock, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/23/visidon-applock-sees-your-pretty-face-grants-you-android-access/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">facial recognition security app</a> announced back at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nokia+world+2010/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Nokia World 2010</a>, has finally mosied on over to the Ovi Store, beta tag in tow. The screen lock tech functions pretty much as you'd expect: once you've set a static image of your face as a code, the front-facing camera will then match it up to your mug and<em>, presto magico</em>, you'll have access to your device. The free app is apparently compatible only with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Symbian3/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Symbian 3 </a>handsets, although those rocking Anna and Belle shouldn't encounter any difficulties. Ready to face / off with your phone? Then hit up the source link below to download the <em>gratis</em> goods.<br />

	<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/htc/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC</a> has bestowed a sparkly new handset upon its South Korean customers today, with the release of the Raider 4G. Sporting a 4.5-inch qHD display, this Gingerbread-coated device is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and boasts 1GB of RAM, along with 16GB of internal storage. Graced with what appears to be HTC's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HtcSense/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense</a> 3.0, the Raider also features an eight megapixel camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing shooter and supports 1080p Full HD video recording, as well as the usual smattering of WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS capabilities. When connected to a South Korean LTE network, this handset can reportedly achieve downstream / upstream speeds of 100Mbps and 50Mbps uploads, respectively, with HSPA downloads clocking in at 21Mbps and uploads at 5.76Mbps. The manufacturer hasn't revealed any plans for an international release, though rumor has it that this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/27/exclusive-htc-holiday-for-atandt-in-the-wild-4g-lte-1-2ghz-4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Holiday-like</a> device may be heading to AT&amp;T at some point. If LG's tease routine didn't whet your appetite for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/17/lg-teases-lu6200-with-1-5ghz-dual-core-cpu-720p-hd-display-gin/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">LU6200</a>, these freshly leaked pics might do the trick. Obtained by Korean site <em>Money Today</em>, these in-the-wild images appear to corroborate many of the specs we've already heard about, including that 4.5-inch AH-IPS display at 720p resolution, eight megapixel camera and 1.3 megapixel front-facing shooter. This device is also rumored to feature a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of built-in storage and will reportedly ship with Android 2.3.5, though it'll be ready to update to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/07/eric-schmidt-ice-cream-sandwich-coming-in-october-or-november/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">forthcoming Ice Cream Sandwich</a>, as well. The LU6200 is expected to hit the Korean market sometime next month, where it'll run on LG Telecom's U+ LTE network, but you can check out an extra image of its commodious display after the break.</div>

Looks like Mango's got yet another <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/04/tango-video-calling-en-route-to-windows-phone-mango/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">trick up its sleeve</a> -- at least, a trick that'll be noticeable on HTC's looming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/htc-titan-and-radar-wp-7-mango-phones-revealed-we-go-hands/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Titan</a>. Windows Phone Director Aaron Woodman -- the same Aaron that stopped by our own Engadget Show <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/25/the-engadget-show-014-aaron-woodman-windows-phone-7-google/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">a few months back</a> -- recently paused to show off a Tango video calling application on the aforementioned handset. We knew good and well that the front-facing Titan camera would be put to use by <i>something</i>, and now you know. 'Course, the "demo" looks pretty well scripted -- don't expect an accurate representation of video quality over a crowded 3G network -- but it sure serves to make the wait that much harder. Have a peek yourself just after the break.<br />

Somebody's not wasting anytime. Just last month we reported on the musically minded Android handset, and now what looks to be a decidedly darker version of Sony Ericsson's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/22/sony-ericsson-unveils-live-with-walkman-handset-for-music-loving/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Live with Walkman</a> has made its way through the FCC and come out the other end in pieces -- literally. Since the outfit didn't hold back much in its initial announcement, we won't be making any big discoveries here, but if you're into dismembered smartphones we've got a gallery of the shredded handset awaiting you below.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-ercisson-live-with-walkman-fcc/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman FCC</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-ercisson-live-with-walkman-fcc/4432673?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/sonyericssonlivewalkman-fcc-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-ercisson-live-with-walkman-fcc/4432674?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/sonyericssonlivewalkman-fcc-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-ercisson-live-with-walkman-fcc/4432675?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/sonyericssonlivewalkman-fcc-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-ercisson-live-with-walkman-fcc/4432676?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/sonyericssonlivewalkman-fcc-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-ercisson-live-with-walkman-fcc/4432677?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/sonyericssonlivewalkman-fcc-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>

<div>
	Just a few days after its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/25/htc-omega-blessed-with-renders-revealing-its-front-facing-camer/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">renders first leaked</a>, the HTC Omega has apparently been spotted in the wild, on an Algerian auction site, of all places. French blog <em>Mon Windows Phone</em> claims that the rumored Mango device may sport a Snapdragon MSM8255 1.5Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM and a 3.8-inch LCD, though it's hard to glean too many specifics from the blurry images featured on the auction site. The blog also spotted an eight megapixel camera around back, along with that front-facing shooter that Microsoft's been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/25/microsoft-front-facing-cameras-skype-integration-coming-with-m/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">touting</a>, while the listing claims that the phone boasts up to 8GB of storage capacity. The white-and-gray Omega is rumored to debut at this week's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/19/htc-announces-september-meetup-event-on-facebook-new-phones-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC event in London</a>, though details on price and availability remain unclear (the highest online bid, for what it's worth, is currently at around $540). Hit up the links below to see the full array of images.<br />

When Microsoft <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/microsoft-unveils-new-windows-phone-7-handsets-from-samsung-ace/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">unveiled</a> the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/04/strange-clues-hint-at-a-new-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-running-windows/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">SGH-i937</a> Mango Windows Phone 7 handset last month, we noticed what appeared to be a front facing camera perched atop the Galaxy S II-like device. Now, the company has confirmed that forthcoming Mango flavored phones will indeed feature face-gazing shooters, along with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/microsofts-acquisition-of-skype-for-8-5-billion-becomes-offici/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Skype</a> integration. The confirmation came at Redmond's TechEd event in New Zealand, where two employees also revealed that Microsoft's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/office-365-ditches-the-beta-tag-ready-to-take-on-google-apps/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Lync VoIP</a> client will soon expand to other platforms, including iOS, Android and Symbian. As for that Skype integration, the reps assured the audience that it's coming soon, though it remains unclear whether it'll come in the form of an app, or a subsequent update. You can watch the TechEd session for yourself after the break, but be warned that parts of it are somewhat inaudible.<br />

<div>
	Four months after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/21/sony-ericsson-slaps-walkman-logo-on-x8-renames-it-w8/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">unveiling</a> the relatively bare bones W8, Sony Ericsson has now taken the wraps off yet another Walkman phone, known as the Live with Walkman. Powered by a 1GHz processor, this Android handset features a 3.2 inch, capacitive touchscreen (with somewhat disappointing HVGA resolution), a five megapixel AF shooter with 8x digital zoom, and a front-facing VGA camera capable of capturing HD video in 720p. The petite, Gingerbread-equipped device also packs a lackluster 320MB of RAM, provides up to 32GB of microSD storage, and offers either tri-band 3G support (HSPA+) at 850, 1900 and 2100MHZ, or dual-band 3G at 900 and 2100MHz, depending on the model. And, as you'd expect, Sony Ericsson has placed a special emphasis on the music phone's media capabilities, beefing it up with enhanced audio and Qriocity integration. The specs may not sound earth shattering, but we'll wait until we get pricing information before casting judgment. The Live with Walkman is slated to hit "selected markets" by Q4 of this year, but you can find more information in the full PR, after the break.</div>

It's summer, which means the usual deluge of Android handsets is upon us. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/09/motorolas-4-3-inch-photon-4g-brings-tegra-2-kickstand-magic-to/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Motorola Photon 4G</a> is Sprint's latest specimen, and follows hot on the heels of HTC's somewhat disappointing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/15/htc-evo-3d-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVO 3D</a>. Like its stablemate, it's a proper superphone with a dual-core processor, large qHD display, and of course, WiMAX. Instead of trying to wow us with a gimmicky 3D camera, it differentiates itself by being Sprint's first global phone with WiMAX, and as such supports CDMA / EV-DO for North America along with GSM / HSPA for the rest of the world. Motorola further spices things up with a dash of WebTop functionality, something it first introduced on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/motorola/atrix-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Atrix 4G</a>. So, is the Photon just the smartphone flavor <em>du jour</em>, or does it stand out from the seasonal crowd? How does it compare to the EVO 3D and the other Android flagships? Hit the break for our full review.<br />

Not too long ago, things were pretty simple in T-Mobile's Android land. For us (the nerds, geeks, power users, early adopters, and other misbegotten social deviants) there was the G series of phones with plain Android, culminating recently with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/20/t-mobile-g2x-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">LG's delightful G2x</a>. If you wanted to buy your mom an Android smartphone, you'd point her at the myTouch series of handsets with custom HTC Sense-based skins, like last winter's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/05/t-mobile-mytouch-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">myTouch 4G</a>. Life got a bit more complicated with the introduction of LG's <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/11/05/lg-optimus-t-and-optimus-s-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Optimus T</a>, Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/10/samsung-galaxy-s-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Galaxy S 4G</a>, and other devices that don't neatly fit into the carrier's grand branding scheme. Well, fear not! T-Mobile and HTC went ahead and refreshed last summer's lovely <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/06/01/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-slide-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">myTouch 3G Slide</a> with a dash of dual-core tech lifted right from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/27/htc-sensation-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC's Sensation</a> flagship and a bespoke 8 megapixel shooter said to be "the most advanced camera of any smartphone". Those are fighting words... so does the myTouch 4G Slide (as it's called) beat the likes of Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Galaxy S II</a>, Sony Ericsson's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/30/sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Xperia Arc</a>, and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/nokia-n8-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Nokia's N8</a> in terms of imaging performance? Is the sliding keyboard as pleasant to use as its predecessor? And most importantly, is this your mom's next phone? Read on for our full review.<br />

We're inclined to take a company's word when it releases official pics and specs on its own website, but it throws us for a loop when that page gets taken down as quickly as it goes up. Such is the tale of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/14/samsung-d600-leaks-out-as-conquer-4g-hints-at-sprint-release/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Samsung Conquer 4G</a>, a mid-range Android WiMAX handset <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/02/samsung-sph-d600-hits-fcc-heads-to-sprint/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">destined for Sprint</a>. Its official product page was live for only a brief lapse of time, but long enough to glean some press shots and specs. According to the site, we can expect the Conquer 4G to have some befitting internals: a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, Gingerbread, 3.5-inch HVGA panel and 3.2MP rear / 1.3MP front cameras. It'd be a respectable option for anyone wanting a 4G device without the glitz and glamour (and, we assume, the cost) of the EVO 3D. While no pricing or availability was set, a closer look at the press shot shows the date as "July 15, 2011." We're still waiting for confirmation from company reps to find out what's going on, but we'll shout from the rooftops if we learn any juicy tidbits. Nothing like a good mystery to help us stay awake through the middle of the day, right?

In the event you got lulled into a groovy seat dance by that most excellent muzak above, let us repeat - this app <em>does not</em> protect your lockscreen. That said, Visidon's Applock <em>will</em> prevent the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/privacy/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">privacy</a>-adverse from messing with your personally curated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/apps/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">app</a> collection. Have a nosy significant lover? No sweat -- snap a pick with your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/FrontFacingCamera/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">front-facing cam</a>, enable the face-lock in your settings, and those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/13/apple-thinks-of-the-children-patents-parental-controlled-text-c/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">sexts</a> are as good as blocked. It's far from foolproof, however, as some comments indicate an extended bit of facial-wriggling tricks the app into unlock mode. Oh well, you're so vain, you'll probably think this Android market link is for you -- don't you?<br />
<br />

The first time we saw the rumored <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/25/htc-supersonic-for-sprint-possibly-spotted-in-the-very-very-ugl/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Supersonic</a> we were blown away. HTC and Google had just wowed us with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/nexus-one-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Nexus One</a>, and here we were looking at something <em>even better</em> -- a 4.3-inch phone with WiMAX wrapped in a white body. This prototype was buggy and had abysmal battery life, but it was <em>real</em>. Four months later it landed in our hands at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/googleio2010?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Google I/O</a>. We're of course talking about the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/19/htc-evo-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVO 4G</a> which went on to become a runaway hit for HTC and Sprint as the first ever 4G smartphone in the US. And here we are a year later with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/htc-evo-3d-officially-announced-for-sprint/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC EVO 3D</a>, the legitimate heir to Sprint's mobile kingdom -- at least until the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/09/motorolas-4-3-inch-photon-4g-brings-tegra-2-kickstand-magic-to/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Motorola Photon 4G</a> comes along. When we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/htc-evo-3d-first-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">first played</a> with the 3D-capable handset at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CTIA2011/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CTIA</a> we were suitably impressed, but we left with a lot of unanswered questions. How do the 1.2GHz dual core processor and qHD display affect battery life? Is 3D a compelling feature or just a gimmick? What is 2D camera performance like with the lower specced camera? Is the EVO 3D a worthy replacement for the EVO 4G? Find out in our review after the break.<br />

It's been a while since we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/04/motion-computings-rugged-oak-trail-powered-cl900-could-be-the/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">first laid eyes upon</a> this rugged little guy, but Motion Computing's CL900 tablet is finally available for orders, starting at $899. Designed with enterprise markets in mind, the 2.1-pound <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/windows7,tablets?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Windows 7 slate</a> runs on a 1.5GHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OakTrail/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Intel Oak Trail</a> Atom Z670 processor and rocks a 10.1-inch, 1366x768 multi-touch display that's shielded in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gorillaglass?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Corning Gorilla Glass</a>. Seated atop that display is a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, with a 3.0-megapixel sensor keeping watch over the backside. Boasting a thickness of 15.5mm, the device also offers up to 2GB of RAM (along with a 30GB or 62GB SSD), promises a battery life of up to eight hours and houses a USB port, SD card slot and Bluetooth 3.0 module. For now, the CL900 is only available at select retailers, though Motion is selling peripherals and accessories directly from its site. Check out the source links for more details.

Well, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-available-in-march-on-verizon-in-ear/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">we knew it was coming</a>, and tonight at CTIA we finally got our dirty little hands on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/26/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-playstation-phone-preview/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play</a> for Verizon. It's pretty much what we expected: an Xperia Play that's lacking a SIM slot but displaying a couple of Verizon <strike>tattoos </strike>logos. The front-facing camera is still on the menu, along with a tasty serving of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Gingerbread/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Gingerbread</a> -- Android 2.3.2, to be exact. Strangely, the custom skin we saw during <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-final-hardware-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">our hands-on at MWC</a> was nowhere to be found on Verizon's model, being replaced instead by what appears to be the stock Gingerbread UI with some Sony Ericsson wallpapers and widgets. The Xperia Play app was on full display on the demo phones, which came preloaded with Ashphalt 6, Bruce Lee, Crash Bandicoot, Star Battalion, Madden '11, and The Sims 3. Take a peek at our gallery below, and poke your way past the break for our hands-on video.<br />

	</a></div>
It's only been six months since Samsung launched its highly successful <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GalaxyS/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Galaxy S</a> assault upon the US market with a series of carrier customized phones: the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Vibrant/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Vibrant</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Captivate/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Captivate</a> GSM twins for T-Mobile and AT&amp;T, the WiMAX-rocking <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Epic4G/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Epic 4G</a> for Sprint and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Fascinate/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Fascinate</a> for Verizon. More derivatives arrived later, with the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/10/07/samsung-galaxy-s-meets-us-cellular-mesmerize-coming-on-october/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Mesmerize</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Continuum/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Continuum</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NexusS/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Nexus S</a>, and LTE-equipped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GalaxyIndulge/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Galaxy Indulge</a>. Still the Vibrant was the first, and the closest in appearance to the original Galaxy S, losing the front-facing camera, but gaining a search button. Unfortunately, Samsung was slow to upgrade early devices like the Vibrant beyond Eclair, and to fix the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/samsung-galaxy-s-gps-gate-two-problems-not-one-and-what-to-do/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">well-documented AGPS problems</a>. As such, the release of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/14/t-mobile-galaxy-s-4g-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Samsung Galaxy S 4G for T-Mobile </a>-- basically an updated Vibrant with HSPA+, a front-facing camera, a bronze battery cover, Froyo out of the gate, but no dedicated internal flash storage -- is bittersweet. While beneficial to those who waited, it's a slap in the face to those who purchased the Vibrant. But is it a worthy upgrade? How does it fit into T-Mobile's high-end Android lineup? Read on for our full review after the break.<br />

We know, it feels <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/20/ipad-camera-apps-discovered-in-ios-4-3-beta/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">all but certain</a> at this point (even when it's far from official), but perhaps we can expand on that quoted assertion further. Like everyone else who can laugh at Objective-C jokes, <em>9 to 5 Mac</em> has been digging through the latest iOS SDK and found some data referring to K94, which it claims is the codename for the next-generation iPad. (For reference, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/is-this-the-apple-tablet/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">the original iPad was K48</a>.) Anyway, within that code lies a string reference to "Back Facing 1MP Photo." Going further, the front-facing camera is reportedly VGA -- same as the iPhone, same as the iPod touch. It's unclear if the also-found <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/12/ios-4-3-code-reveals-new-iphone-and-ipad-models-rumor-mill-sugg/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">"K95" files</a> also included the same data, or what exactly that codename might be, but if you're the betting sort, feel free to say, "the iPad 2's megapixel mullet is 0.3 up front, 1 in the back." It's still a gamble until Apple unveils it with a puff of virtual smoke on a presentation slide.

After seeing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/android,tablet/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Android tablets</a> galore at CES, it seems strangely fitting that a device bearing the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/07/cherrypal-announces-188-cherrypad-america-android-tablet/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CherryPad</a> moniker could top off this month's tablet news dog pile. Specifically, <em>Mobile Magazine</em> is sharing "unconfirmed details" about a new 7-inch Cherry-branded tablet that's said to run Android 2.2 "at a minimum" and feature a 1024x600 capacitive multi-touch display, front and rear three megapixel cameras, a 1GHz Cortex A8 cpu, and either 8 or 16GB of flash memory. Other goodies on the sequel's spec list include an integrated HDMI output, accelerometer, microSD slot and even an unlocked GSM antenna. Unfortunately, these enhancements won't be available at the old CherryPad's $200 price point -- which was pretty much the only thing the original had going for it. Instead, the new device is rumored to cost $300 to $400. The same source also reports that an official announcement is expected in just a few weeks, so in the meantime, we'll pass the hours debating whether it makes more sense to name tablets after fruits or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/18/exclusive-hp-palms-webos-tablets-pictures-plans-and-mor/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">rocks</a>.

The sun will rise, pigeons will annoy, and <em>Daring Fireball's </em>John Gruber will get inside scoops on Apple product releases. So it goes. This time he's touching on, erm, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPodtouch/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPod touch</a>, making an offhand (though firmly declarative) comment on a post about the Dell Streak: "if you wait a few weeks to buy the Touch, you'll get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras." The man's not one to fool around with such matters, so we tend to believe him here. It also helps that nothing he's saying would be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/apple-ipod-touch-screen-with-front-facing-camera-slot-spied/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">really surprising</a> -- a new iPod in September? With features trickled down from the most recent iPhone? Then again, that camera <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/24/one-more-thing-two-ipod-touch-prototypes-with-camera-briefly/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">has</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/13/earlier-ipod-touch-with-camera-leak-vindicated-in-light-of-3rd-g/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">proved</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/steve-jobs-says-ipod-touch-didnt-get-a-camera-because-its-a-g/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">elusive</a> before.

You may or may not be aware, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Apple/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Apple</a> has a penchant for announcing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/live-from-apples-its-only-rock-and-roll-event/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">new iPods</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/live-from-apples-lets-rock-event-in-san-francisco/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">in early September</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/05/steve-jobs-live-apples-the-beat-goes-on-special-event/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">as it has for years</a>. With just over four weeks to go before the most likely (but nigh confirmed) press event week is upon us, expect the rumor mill to ratchet up appropriately. Here's one care of <em>Mac Rumors</em>; the gang's been sent some pictures from parts supplier <em>iPhonerevivers</em> that allegedly show a new iPod touch LCD screen And sure enough, in place of an earpiece is a slot perfectly suited for that oft-rumored (and possibly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/ipod-touch-facetime-calling-to-be-based-on-email-addresses/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">email-based</a>) front-facing camera. It's not the first time we've seen this piece -- the resemblance to<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/08/next-gen-ipod-touch-rumors-heat-up-front-facing-camera-septemb/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"> early July's leak</a> doesn't escape us -- but these photos are decidedly fresh and from a different source. Mounting evidence... or are we all just being had? Wouldn't surprise us if we found out for sure before ides of September.

Last we thought, that mandatory <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/12/sprint-selling-htc-evo-4g-on-june-4-for-199/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">$10 "premium data add-on"</a> for Sprint's EVO 4G would additionally include YouTube and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/12/sprints-htc-evo-4g-put-through-its-bandwidth-sucking-paces/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Qik video chat</a>, and well, we may have been only half right. The gang at <em>Android Guys</em> have what's alleged to be a scan from Sprint's training materials, and according to one image, Qik's gonna cost you another $4.99 monthly via PayPal (not through the carrier) to use. We've reached out to see if we can confirm, but if true, it's a bit of a bummer to see the premiums continuing to add up. At least Fring's Skype video is still free, and as you can see in the video after the break, it works pretty well.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: We're now privy to the official May 26th edition of the Evo 4G launch guide and can confirm the $4.99 fee. While Sprint hasn't said anything publicly, it's looking like that fee will stick saving a last minute call from the governor.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 2:</strong> Qik has come out and clarified that the $5 fee will be for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/29/qik-two-way-video-calling-on-the-sprint-evo-4g-is-free-premium/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">"advanced premium features,"</a> and two-way video calling will be completely and utterly free. That's what we like to hear.<br />
<br />

We don't really know why Apple wouldn't have mentioned iChat at its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/08/live-from-apples-iphone-os-4-event/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">"tentpole"-filled keynote</a> if it was all ready to go on it, but the eternal optimists within us would like to believe that the <em>merest glimpse</em> of the app would instantly reveal a front facing camera on whatever new iPhone hardware is in the works, therefore relegating the app to secrecy. Still, the evidence does indeed seem to be mounting for the software's inclusion in the OS. Outside of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/09/ichat-video-with-front-facing-camera-evidence-mounts-in-iphone-o/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iChatAgent process</a> that was spotted last week, <em>9 to 5 Mac</em> has pulled the covers off references within the SDK to moderators, chat rooms, encrypted video conferences, and more. They even uncovered the same notification noises that the desktop iChat application uses. Sure, this could all be <em>one big misunderstanding</em>, but hopefully these breadcrumbs actually do point to a long-overdue, well-integrated IM experience on the device, video or no.<br />
<br />
[Thanks, Maj0]
