  • Geometry Wars 2 realigned for July 30, 800 points

What's the antonym for delay? Whatever the word, we're not used to using it around here. So when Bizarre Creations community lead Ben Ward let us know this morning that Geometry Wars 2 will be released on Xbox Live Arcade one week earlier than expected (next Wednesday!), we were at a loss for the word (of course, we could have settled along the lines of "bumped up," but opted instead for a geeky math-related term: realigned -- get it?). Ward also confirmed that the age of super-budget priced geometric space shooters is over, as we'll be paying 800 Microsoft Points ($10) this time (of course, the premium comes with a whole lot more game -- more on that in a minute). In addition, Ward revealed that the Geometry Wars 2 trial version is "basically" the full Deadline game mode, including multiplayer support (up to four players locally). We've posted Bizarre's descriptions of Deadline and the 5 additional game modes, preserved in their original British flavour, after the break. (But before you read on ... FUN FACT: Geometry Wars 2 is the first Bizarre game published by proud, sorta new parent company Activision.) %Gallery-27606%

  • Geometry Wars 2 release date moved to July 30

Initially set for release on August 6, Activision has moved up the final release date for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 to July 30. Even after a bit of a disappointment about the co-op situation, it's probably safe to say that we're all still excited for the game. We just wish that there were more games that actually had their releases expedited instead of delayed (we're looking at you Castle Crashers and Bionic Commando). You should also note that July 30 is also the release date for Double D Dodgeball and probably Pirates VS Ninjas Dodgeball as well.

  • Confirmed: No online co-op for Geometry Wars 2

During our sit-down, hands on session with Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, we learned a quite sad nugget of Geometry Wars 2 knowledge from the Microsoft folks: The game will NOT feature online co-op. Boo-hiss-boo! For the simple reason of too much going on to make co-op enabled online, Bizarre Creations will only allow four players to experience Geometry Wars 2 locally. Sad too, because we were all about destroying pieces of geometry with friends over Live. Lame! Lame! Lame!

  • Joystiq E3 hands-on: Geometry Wars 2

Some would say Geometry Wars Retro Evolved was Xbox 360's best launch game -- it beat early hyped games like Perfect Dark Zero, Call of Duty 2, and Kameo to win the heart of 360 early adopters, despite the fact that it was 2D and a cheap XBLA version of a game that had previously been included with Project Gotham Racing 2. It held the record for a long time as the system's most-downloaded game, and that title was well-deserved, considering that a lot of $60 games haven't held a candle to the kind of frantic fun you can find pushing that little red ship around the board. Now Bizarre Creations is attempting to follow up with Geometry Wars 2, and after our playthrough at E3, we're sold. Not only has the developer filled out the game with multiplayer and co-op modes, but Bizarre has figured out a way to make the super simple, yet extremely fun gameplay go deeper than ever before. %Gallery-27606%

If dubious off-screen photos of the sequel to the sensational XBLA shooter Geometry Wars just aren't doing it, how does the idea of some slightly less dubious off-screen video of the game strike you? That's what GameTrailers has to offer in lieu of actual direct-feed action. Behold: Four-player blasting yumminess! Even trippier visuals! More geometry to destroy!

Four polygonal ships rendered on the same screen ... at the same time?! On August 6, Bizarre will prove the impossible possible when Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 bursts onto Xbox Live Arcade. The sequel features a "remixed" version of the original game, along with 5 additional game modes: Waves (from PGR4), Pacifism (Achievement Evolved!), and newcomers King, Deadline, and Sequence. Each game mode supports up to 4 players locally (read: not online), for either 2-vs-2 or every polygon for itself gameplay. Additionally, GWRE2 will feature a Co-Pilots mode, where one player steers and the other shoots. As expected, all those particles still add up, as online leaderboards make a return -- hey K4rn4ge, you still got it? Bizarre will reveal further details leading up to the game launch, including info on new enemy types and 12 new achievements -- and hopefully ... a price! 400 points, pretty please? %Gallery-27606%

After the tipoff that Joystiq got about the game, the announcement of Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 wasn't exactly surprising. Still, it's good to get an official confirmation, and after the press conference Bizarre Creations sent around an email announcing the game's release date and providing some game assets. While the conference only gave the date of "next month", the specific date is August 6. There's also supposed to be a trailer coming soon as well, so stay tuned for that. %Gallery-27593% [Via Press Info]

Geometry Wars 2 will, unfortunately, not be made available this week as previously speculated. The game has been announced at the Microsoft Press Conference, however, and will be made available next month. Other than that, we know very little about the game and how it differs from the original.

We have some juicy rumor news fellow Geometry Wars fanboys. According to one of Joystiq's reliable sources, Microsoft will be making a few Geo Wars news waves as early as tomorrow morning. Specifically, we're being told that Geometry Wars 2 will be officially announced during Microsoft's Monday press conference AND it may even make a surprise release to the XBLA later this week. If not tomorrow. Something that isn't all that far fetched seeing that we already have the game's achievements as we wait for its officially unveiling. Heck, we'll trade in Coffeetime Crosswords for some spastic Geo Wars 2 action, so make it happen Microsoft. Please make it happen.

A reliable source close to Joystiq informed us that Geometry Wars 2 will be announced at Microsoft's press conference tomorrow morning. That wouldn't be much of a surprise -- after all, the achievements were leaked on Xbox.com two weeks ago. Our source informs us that the game has already passed certification, clearing the major barrier of entry for all Xbox Live Arcade titles. Is Microsoft going to "bring Geometry Wars 2 home" tomorrow? We already know they're launching Coffeetime Crosswords and Shred Nebula next week, but a follow-up to Xbox 360's Number 1 launch title would be polygonal icing on the keynote cake.

Inside MGC has posted what appears to be a list of Xbox 360 Achievements for an unannounced -- but not unheard of -- Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved sequel. It seems your neon-lit annihilation of sinister shapes will occur across several different modes this time (thanks, "Unlock All Modes" Achievement), including a "Waves" variant, a "Pacifism" setting and something called "Deadline." A time limit, perhaps? Though Retro Evolved 2 has yet to be officially acknowledged, we're confident in our assertion that 200 Gamerpoints represent nothing but the icing on a delicious, octagonal cake. We can't wait to wreck 'tangles again. [Via X3F]

Well, well, well, looky what we have here. Somehow, the achievements for Geometry Wars 2 have been leaked onto the internets. Funny thing is, the game hasn't even been confirmed to exist. Crazy exciting super! But crazy exciting super in a good way. The achievements (viewable after the jump) detail what sounds to be some sort of collection of various new and old Geometry Wars game modes including Geometry Wars: Waves which was included in PGR4. We say this only because the game's Phobia and Surf achievements mention Waves in their descriptions, but other achievements mention different game modes including "King" and "Deadline". We guess the most obvious proof that Geo Wars 2 will feature a compilation of new modes is the ever straight forward Unlock All Modes achievement. We're pumped! We're excited! Bring on another round of Geometry Wars and another 200 Gamerscore! W00t! [Thanks, Dynamo Matt]

Snooping through the Australian OFLC's video game ratings website, a new and totally unannounced video game full of geometry has been discovered, resulting in us being uber excited. The OFLC just published a listing for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 today, which is super great news, except for the fact it doesn't look to be a 360 exclusive. According to the listing, the game is being published by Activision (and being authored by them as well) rather then Bizarre Creations and is categorized to be "multi-platform". That's about all the info we can pull from this ratings post and it's great to hear that we'll be treated to a true sequel (Geometry Wars: Waves doesn't count), even though we have to share with non-360 gamers. Bring on the geometry! [Via Game Stooge]

Geometry Wars: Waves and Galaxies have been interesting takes on the GW formula, but we all know in our hearts that they're not the true successors to the original XBLA classic. Now, it seems we may finally be getting just that after a rating was released by the OFLC (the Australian classification board) for Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. Sadly, that's pretty much all we know, save for the fact the game will be multi-platform. Not much of a surprise, considering it's coming from the company that's currently trying to figure out how to make Guitar Hero compatible with pacemakers. [Via Xblah]
