HDMI or component video hook it up on the cam side, USB on the computer side. It uses H.264 video compression and is compatible with sites like USTREAM that require the RTMP protocol. The box plus Windows software starts at $299. Everything but the price probably sounds pretty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/17/livestream-broadcaster-hands-on/">familiar</a> since the incredibly similar Livestream Broadcaster is also just about on the scene, though, it'll run you about $195 more. Take a gander at the PR after the break.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/hauppauge-launches-high-definition-video-streamer-streameez/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hauppauge announces StreamEez to broadcast live HD video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/hauppauge-launches-high-definition-video-streamer-streameez/">Hauppauge announces StreamEez to broadcast live HD video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 18 Apr 2012 23:35:00 EST. Still, if it gets a steady diet of software updates like today's it could turn into quite an impressive device. The budget TV streamer now has the ability to act like a DVR if you attach a storage device to one of its empty USB ports. Of course, you can't just pull up the recorded programs on your set top box as you would with standard DVR, but it does allow you to stream them to your various devices without the need to be watching live. For a few more details check out the PR after the break.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/17/hauppauge-broadway-scores-dvr-like-record-and-playback-features/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hauppauge Broadway scores DVR-like record and playback features</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/17/hauppauge-broadway-scores-dvr-like-record-and-playback-features/">Hauppauge Broadway scores DVR-like record and playback features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 17 Apr 2012 04:45:00 EST. New products for you to buy, companies are always trying to make 'em. The two aspirations converge with Hauppauge's latest product, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/hauppauge-debuts-broadway-live-tv-streamer-for-iphones-and-ipads/">Broadway</a>. The idea here isn't exactly novel, but with few exceptions <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SlingMedia/">Sling Media</a> has been left to dominate the placeshifting category. The Broadway picks up where Sling kicked off, adding WiFi and more interestingly, shedding the need for costly clients, instead using a built-in web server to access the live video streams. Interesting idea, sure, but is it actually useful and worth the $199 it demands? We hope to reveal just that, after you click through of course.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hauppauge-broadway/">Hauppauge Broadway review (hardware)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hauppauge-broadway/#4831730"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/2012-02-1000dsc3068jt-1329766616_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hauppauge-broadway/#4831731"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/2012-02-1001dsc3072jt-1329766622_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hauppauge-broadway/#4831732"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/2012-02-1002dsc4578jt-1329766626_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hauppauge-broadway/#4831733"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/2012-02-1003dsc4580jt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hauppauge-broadway/#4831734"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/2012-02-1004dsc4581jt_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/23/hauppauge-broadway-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hauppauge Broadway review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/23/hauppauge-broadway-review/">Hauppauge Broadway review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 11:00:00 EST. That means both the USB and PCIe versions of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CableCARD/">CableCARD</a> tuner that can record four HD channels at once, cost a mere $50 per tuner. While this makes it the cheapest per-tuner CableCARD tuner ever available, the dual tuner <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/13/hauppauge-usb-cablecard-tuner-announced-on-facebook-ships-later/">Hauppauge WinTV DCR-2650</a> at $149 retail ($112 street) still requires the lowest total entry cost into the PC CableCARD tuner market. We've come a long way since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/11/atis-tv-wonder-digital-cable-tuner-hands-on/">ATI offered a single tuner for $299</a>, but the still-pricey cards make it easy to understand understand why TV manufacturers and other set-top box makers, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/16/boxee-and-the-ncta-debate-if-clearqam-is-good-for-us/">like Boxee</a>, can't hide the price of a CableCARD tuner in the cost of their products.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/20/ceton-officially-drops-the-infinitv-4-price-to-199/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ceton officially drops the InfiniTV 4 price to $199</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/20/ceton-officially-drops-the-infinitv-4-price-to-199/">Ceton officially drops the InfiniTV 4 price to $199</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 20 Feb 2012 16:37:00 EST. It seems like just yesterday that we couldn't find a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cablecard">CableCARD</a> tuner anywhere, and news that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hauppauge/">Hauppauge</a> has has announced a name, price for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/12/hauppauge-to-expand-its-offerings-to-include-a-cablecard-tuner/">its new device</a> highlights what has suddenly become a flood of ways to get pay-TV on your HTPC. <i>MissingRemote </i>dug up a post on Hauppauge's Facebook page announcing the dual tuner WinTV-DCR-2650, which it developed in partnership with SiliconDust and plans to ship by the end of this month for just $129. It's already certified by CableLabs so everything appears to be ready to go, with preorders apparently ready to begin Monday through the company's direct store and Amazon. Are any of you canceling a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/14/hdhomerun-prime-tv-tuner-is-officially-available-for-preorders-f/">HDHomeRun</a>/<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/infinitv-4-cablecard-tuner-adds-100-instant-rebate-new-retaile/">InfiniTV 4</a> order and switching over?<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">It may look vaguely like an accessory to a late-80s PC that's sprouted antennas, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hauppauge">Hauppauge's</a> new "Broadway" live TV streamer does have a few more modern tricks up its sleeve: it can stream live TV to your iPhone or iPad. That can be done over WiFi in your house or over the internet anywhere else, and the device packs a multi-format receiver that can tune in both digital cable TV channels and ATSC over-the-air broadcast channels (or analog TV, for that matter), which are all conveniently compressed for streaming. Alongside it, Hauppauge has also rolled out its new dual-format WinTV-Aero-m USB receiver for PCs (pictured after the break), which will let you receive Mobile Digital TV broadcasts designed for mobile TV reception, as well as high definition ATSC digital TV broadcasts. Look for it to be available soon for $69, while the Broadway streamer will be available in "about six weeks" for $199.</div>

It wasn't that long ago that recording HD from just about any source on a PC was cost prohibitive. Then along came <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/05/30/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-shipping/">Hauppauge's HD PVR</a> and while it isn't without its issues and limitations, it gets the job done at an affordable price. One of those limitations is the rather large external enclosure and the wall-wart that powers it. Now Hauppauge has addressed those nit picks with the release of an internal PCI-E capture card for $159. The single card can record up to 1080i from either component or <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/08/18/hdfury2-adapter-kit-tunnels-hdcp-laden-hdmi-content-via-componen/">unencrypted HDMI</a> and will start shipping later this month. The support is very similar it its external brother, in fact other than the form factor, the two are very similar in most every other way. Another pictures and technical details after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/07/hauppauge-is-taking-its-hd-component-capture-card-internal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hauppauge is taking its HD component capture card internal</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/07/hauppauge-is-taking-its-hd-component-capture-card-internal/">Hauppauge is taking its HD component capture card internal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 07 Jan 2011 00:06:00 EST. If you're thinking about going the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/tivo-premiere-vs-windows-7-media-center/">Media Center DVR route</a> but can't or won't get hooked up with a CableCARD don't forget there's another option available to pull in those premium channels now that the $199 <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/04/07/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-available-for-order/">Hauppauge HD PVR</a> is supported as a TV recorder in Windows 7. There's been a few updates since the feature was <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/06/11/windows-7-media-center-gets-component-hd-capture-support/">added in beta back in June</a>, which lets users select programs via the Media Center guide to be captured and encoded in MPEG-4 over the device's component video inputs (HDTV resolutions up to 1080i and 5.1 surround sound are supported) while the PC controls connected satellite or cable TV set-top boxes with an included IR blaster. There's still a limit of <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/04/25/hauppauge-not-officially-supporting-dual-tuner-setups-with-hd-pv/">one tuner per PC</a> and a thread over on <i>TheGreenButton </i>reveals the experience can still be a bit glitchy, but if you've just got to have Windows Media Center and <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/08/02/directvs-nfl-sunday-ticket-adds-superfan-hd-games-red-zone-f/">NFL Sunday Ticket</a> then some compromises will be necessary.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/hauppauge-officially-announces-hd-pvr-support-in-windows-media-c/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hauppauge officially announces HD PVR support in Windows Media Center</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/hauppauge-officially-announces-hd-pvr-support-in-windows-media-c/">Hauppauge officially announces HD PVR support in Windows Media Center</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 15:39:00 EST. Can you even believe that it has been over two years now since the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-available-for-order/">first consumer priced HD component capture device</a> hit the market? It doesn't seem that long to us, but if you're a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowMediaCenter/">Window Media Center</a> fan and think the native <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CableCARD/">CableCARD</a> tuners are no option at all, then you might feel differently. The great news out of Hauppauge though is that the HD PVRs driver site has been updated and you can now download a file that'll make Windows 7 Media Center recognize your HD PVR as a tuner. The said analog capture device still runs about $200 and since it outputs MPEG4, the 360 is the only <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/19/the-media-center-extender-shootout/">Extender</a> that can play back it's content. On top of all that only a single tuner per Media Center PC is currently supported, but that is way better than nothing for someone who can't/won't get cable TV and wants to enjoy their favorite provider's HD signal on the best DVR software currently available. The driver is still in beta at the moment and we can't wait to try it for ourselves, so keep an eye out for more on this one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/windows-7-media-center-gets-component-hd-capture-support/">Windows 7 Media Center gets component HD capture support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 17:46:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">If we've learned anything from the long gestation of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/slingplayer,iphone">SlingPlayer iPhone app</a>, it's that folks want to stream video to their iPhone, iPad, and / or iPod touch. At least the folks at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hauppauge/">Hauppauge</a> think so -- and the new version (v7.2) of WinTV for the WinTV -HVR tuner board for the PC now includes that functionality. Indeed, the software will even stream <em>16 and Pregnant</em> (or whatever it is you're into these days) to your Mac computer. Sadly, all of this streaming is going down via WiFi, but who knows? Maybe you really want to record TV on one machine and then watch it five feet away. It will be available directly from Hauppauge for $9.95, although the company is making a free upgrade available to current owners of WinTV-HVRs. PR after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/14/hauppage-wintv-gets-wifi-streaming-for-iphone-ipad-ipod-touch/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hauppage WinTV gets WiFi streaming for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/14/hauppage-wintv-gets-wifi-streaming-for-iphone-ipad-ipod-touch/">Hauppage WinTV gets WiFi streaming for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 14 May 2010 15:47:00 EST. No word on price or availability but the initial seemly over ambitions timeframe was this year. Our friends at Geek Tonic were able to confirm the the company's plans for the new tuner, but also learned that there is little hope that the new device will make it to market before the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/11/ceton-is-set-to-take-over-the-cablecard-pc-tuner-market/">Ceton tuner</a>, and in fact the actual release is still undeterminable. The good news is that there will be some competition in the PC digital cable tuner market which is always a good thing, in fact at this point we wouldn't be surprised if <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Avermedia/">Avermedia</a> was the next to throw its hat into the mix. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.geektonic.com/2009/09/hauppauge-will-sell-cablecard-tuners.html">GeekTonic</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cable/" rel="tag">Cable</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/12/hauppauge-to-expand-its-offerings-to-include-a-cablecard-tuner/">Hauppauge to expand its offerings to include a CableCARD tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 12 Sep 2009 15:46:00 EST. Everyone likes to try and predict the future and with the Custom Electronic Design &amp; Installation (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA/">CEDIA</a>) show only a month away, the crew at Engadget HD threw all of their crazy ideas out there for your reading pleasure. For the most part all of the predictions are around Windows Media Center and how it will integrate with other products like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ZuneHD/">Zune HD</a>, Digital Cable and HD satellite services, but there are some other fun things throw in. We really believe that this is going to be the year that Redmond brings everything together, so if you're the type who doesn't think it'll ever happen, then <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/08/10/cedia-2009-windows-media-center-predictions/">click through</a> to find out why we think you're wrong. Either way, you can expect we'll be on the scene in Atlanta to check out what's new first hand.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/10/windows-media-center-is-set-to-thrill-at-cedia-2009-next-month/">Windows Media Center is set to thrill at CEDIA 2009 next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:17:00 EST. With the Custom Electronic Design &amp; Installation show in Atlanta only a month away, we thought it'd be fun to try and predict the future by laying out our expectations for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowsMediaCenter/">Windows Media Center</a>. The way we see it, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CEDIA/">CEDIA</a> is the perfect launching pad for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/">Windows 7</a> Media Center. For starters it is just over a month before the official release of the OS, but more so because Microsoft has used the venue in the past to announce new Media Center features. We really believe that this is going to be the year that Redmond brings everything together, so if you're the type who doesn't think it'll ever happen, then click through to find out why we think you're wrong.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/10/cedia-2009-windows-media-center-predictions/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CEDIA 2009 Windows Media Center predictions</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/features/" rel="tag">Features</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cable/" rel="tag">Cable</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/fiber/" rel="tag">Fiber</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/internet/" rel="tag">Internet</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/satellite/" rel="tag">Satellite</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/10/cedia-2009-windows-media-center-predictions/">CEDIA 2009 Windows Media Center predictions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 Aug 2009 11:00:00 EST. It looks like it took a little longer than expected, but the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/27/avid-sells-pctv-product-line-to-hauppauge-digital/">sale</a> of Avid's Pinnacle PCTV line of TV <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Pinnacle,tuner">tuners</a> to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hauppauge">Hauppauge</a> has finally gone through. The handoff certainly seems to be getting started on the right foot -- Hauppauge has already fired up the PCTV Systems brand as a separate entity to keep things moving nice and smoothly. The new company's webpage offers a cornucopia of tuners in USB, PCI and PCMCIA flavors, all brandishing a revamped but strangely familiar logo. The PCTV products certainly are right in line with Hauppauge's other offerings, but from the looks of things, the PCTV brand will get treated to a little more colorful and polished marketing.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/15/hauppauge-puts-a-fresh-coat-of-paint-on-its-newly-acquired-pctv/">Hauppauge puts a fresh coat of paint on its newly-acquired PCTV tuners</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 22:28:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HDPVR/">HD-PVR</a> FAQ on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hauppauge/">Hauppauge</a>'s website has always been very clear that the reason why there wasn't support for Windows Media Center was because when it comes to Live TV, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/VMC/">Vista Media Center</a> couldn't handle <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/h264/">h.264</a>. So it should come as no surprise that now that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/">Windows 7</a> Beta has been out for a bit, someone has figured out a way to get the two to play together. The DVBSBridge add-on is available now for those who can't wait for Hauppauge's drivers and are of course running Windows 7 -- Vista fans need not apply -- but we'll warn you; we just took a look at the directions and this is not for the faint of heart.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.geektonic.com/2009/02/hauppauge-hd-pvr-on-media-center.html">Geek Tonic</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/04/windows-7-gets-hauppauge-hd-pvr-support-via-3rd-party/">Windows 7 gets Hauppauge HD-PVR support via 3rd party</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 04 Feb 2009 13:13:00 EST. Hauppauge's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hd+pvr/">HD-PVR</a> just keeps getting new friends at CES this year -- first was the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/elgato-adds-support-for-the-hauppauge-hd-pvr/">EyeTV</a>, and now the PS3 has gained access to the club treehouse. Say goodbye to your workflow for getting HD PVR-recorded content to your PS3, the Hauppauge box now records directly to a PS3-ready format, with 5-channel audio intact. This is a step in the right direction for users who are determined to make the PS3 the center of all their entertainment, but in our view the setup will still be hampered by the experience of accessing lots of media through the PS3's UI. But by all means, if this functionality completes your AV puzzle, jump right in.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/players/" rel="tag">Players</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sony/" rel="tag">Sony</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-plays-nice-with-ps3/">Hauppauge HD-PVR now plays nice with PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 05:01:00 EST. Unless you're picking up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/dell-launches-mini-10/">Mini 10</a> with an integrated TV tuner, you'll need one of these (or something similar) in order to pull down OTA signals on your Inspiron Mini. Dell has just announced a thumb-sized <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/usb+tuner/">USB digital TV tuner</a> (complete with a built-in telescoping and articulating antenna that retracts) catering to the Inspiron family which will start at just $50. Also of note, the company is intending to offer "regional-specific versions of the Digital TV Tuner, designed to receive local broadcast standards, including mobile digital television standards like ATSC in the US, DVB-T in Western Europe, ISDB-T 1-seg (a.k.a. One Seg) in Japan, and the emerging CMMB standard in China." It'll play nice with the Dell-customized version of Ubuntu Linux (8.04), Windows XP and Windows Vista Basic, and it's expected to ship later this quarter in Europe, followed by North America and Asia-Pacific / China soon after.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/dell-usb-digital-tv-tuner-announced-for-inspiron-mini-family/">Dell USB Digital TV Tuner announced for Inspiron Mini family</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 10:51:00 EST. Until now, people wanting a Mac HTPC that takes advantage of the good old analog hole have been limited to using the Hauppauge <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HD+PVR/">HD-PVR</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sagetv">SageTV</a>. Thanks to Elgato adding support for the hardware into its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eyetv/">EyeTV</a> software, however, there should be some choice soon. Support for the hardware has been in beta since November, but users with a little bit of nerve can sign up to get in on the action. The HD-PVR may not be the most elegant solution to recording protected HD content down to disk, but at least it's workable; so if you're an EyeTV user who's been itching to add something beyond Clear QAM to your DVR's diet it's worth checking out.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/elgato-adds-support-for-the-hauppauge-hd-pvr/">Elgato adds support for the Hauppauge HD-PVR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 03:41:00 EST. Announced today, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/11/pinnacle-trots-out-pctv-hd-mini-stick-usb-tuners/">Pinnacle PCTV line</a> will soon be property of Hauppauge Digital, not Avid Technology. After laying off 410 employees and divesting its Softimage 3-D game animation software business last Friday, the company has announced yet another major move in its restructuring efforts. According to Avid CEO Gary Greenfield, he's hoping to transform Avid's business into one that "focuses on software applications that not only meet consumer demand, but also complement our broader portfolio of video and audio solutions." Even he confessed that "PCTV [was] a compelling standalone hardware product and a better fit for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hauppauge/">Hauppauge</a>, a recognized leader in the TV-viewing hardware market." While financial terms weren't disclosed, the deal is slated to close before the end of 2008, and the happy new owner has already announced its intentions to continue supporting and developing both the hardware and software components of the PCTV line.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/27/avid-sells-pctv-product-line-to-hauppauge-digital/">Avid sells PCTV product line to Hauppauge Digital</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 27 Oct 2008 14:35:00 EST. What's this? A <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/09/d-link-dsm-330-divx-connected-media-streamer-now-shipping-in-the/">DivX Connected</a> device made by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Hauppauge/">Hauppauge</a>? Judging by the image above and information from Karolis, that's exactly what it is. The same folks who (finally) delivered the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/11/a-first-look-at-the-hauppauge-hd-pvr/">HD PVR</a> seem to be hard at work on another home entertainment box, though your guess is as good as ours when it comes to purpose, specifications, color options and price. Just about the pull the trigger on that warmly received <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/19/avermedias-avertv-bravo-hybrid-pcie-tuner-card-gets-reviewed/">AVerTV Bravo Hybrid</a>, are you? Hold your horses just a moment. Hauppauge's WinTV-HVR-2250 recently hit the test bench over at <em>PC Magazine</em>, and we'll just get right down to the dirt: it was called "the gold standard of home theater PC TV tuners." That's right folks, the gold standard. Said card boasts twin hybrid tuners, dual hardware MPEG encoders and integrated QAM support, and apparently, using it was a real joy. Setup and installation was "a snap," and image quality was "crisp and clear." Really, the only dig reviewers had was that the QAM plug-in was still a bit unstable, but given that it is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/16/hauppauge-tuners-net-qam-support-in-vista-mce-thanks-to-beta-pl/">still in beta</a>, that really shouldn't come as a surprise. Of note, this card will run you a touch more than the aforementioned AVerTV at $129, but it just might be worth it based on this glowing review.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/reviews/" rel="tag">Reviews</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/21/hauppauge-wintv-hvr-2250-tv-tuner-gets-reviewed-loved/">Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 TV tuner gets reviewed, loved</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 21 Jun 2008 23:57:00 EST. After <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/30/the-hauppauge-hd-pvr-with-component-inputs-gets-delayed/">a little bit of a delay</a> the highly anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/11/hauppauge-intros-usb-pvr-with-component-input/">Hauppauge HD-PVR</a> has finally gotten into user's hands and we're starting to get some first impressions. Our friend Brent Evans takes the time to write up his highs and lows with the new device. He is really happy with the picture quality -- despite the 2nd generation copy -- he loves having freedom to recording any source he wants in HD without worrying about DRM, but He isn't thrilled to pay the HD STB rental fees to the cable company, he's not a fan of the Ir blaster and says that setup could be easier. Overall he seems very pleased, but does point out that not everyone is so lucky, as many Hauppauge HD-PVR owners have apparently been experiencing over heating issues and can't use the device at all. Hauppauge is evidentially aware of the problem and believes it may be addressable in a firmware update, but nonetheless it is issuing some RMAs.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cable/" rel="tag">Cable</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/fiber/" rel="tag">Fiber</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/satellite/" rel="tag">Satellite</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/11/a-first-look-at-the-hauppauge-hd-pvr/">A first look at the Hauppauge HD-PVR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 21:52:00 EST. The wait has been long, but according to one particular fellow who <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/04/hauppauge-hd-pvr-shows-itself-pre-order-said-to-be-coming-soon/">pre-ordered</a> a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-available-for-order/">Hauppauge HD-PVR</a>, these puppies are finally leaving the dock. Just yesterday, his credit card was at long last charged the $249 required to take one home, and according to company sales, 500 or so have already had shipping labels applied, with another 500 expected to ship before June 4th. We're hearing that the hold-up had something to do with a faulty power supply, but regardless of the cause, folks who've been waiting patiently can finally look forward to pushing patience aside.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aoltv.com/2008/05/29/hauppauge-hd-pvr-begins-shipping/">TVSquad</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/recorders/" rel="tag">Recorders</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/set-top-boxes/" rel="tag">Set-top boxes</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/30/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-shipping/">Hauppauge HD-PVR now shipping</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 30 May 2008 18:02:00 EST. If you've been looking beneath couch cushions in an attempt to scrounge up enough cash to pick up a pair of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-available-for-order/">Hauppauge HD PVRs</a> for some sweet dual recording action, hold your horses just a second. We're seeing conflicting reports floating around the web stating that Hauppauge isn't officially supporting dual tuner setups, yet some inquiries are yielding the opposite response. Interestingly, we've heard that the HD PVR drivers actually do understand multiple tuner setups, but the outfit has yet to test and officially acknowledge support for such scenarios. For those who already grabbed a couple, why not give it a go and let us know how it turns out? Either way, we're hoping Hauppauge clears this up in short order, but we'd probably steer clear of ordering several until that happens.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aoltv.com/2008/04/25/hauppauge-only-one-hd-pvr-per-computer-please/">TV Squad</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13721803#post13721803">Read</a> - HD PVRs don't support dual tuner setups<br /><a href="http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13722176#post13722176">Read</a> - HD PVRs do support dual tuner setups<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/recorders/" rel="tag">Recorders</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/set-top-boxes/" rel="tag">Set-top boxes</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/25/hauppauge-not-officially-supporting-dual-tuner-setups-with-hd-pv/">Hauppauge not officially supporting dual tuner setups with HD PVR?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 14:24:00 EST. For those in the UK looking for a travel-friendly way to pick up free-to-air satellite TV (including <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/28/bbc-itv-to-launch-free-satellite-hdtv-in-uk-by-2008/">Freesat</a>), Hauppauge has just the thing. The not-exactly-cute WinTV Nova-S USB2 gives users the ability to watch full-screen programming on their laptop or PC, and better still, it can be "linked to a card reader [the optional WinTV-CI, we assume] to give access to subscription channels." Per usual, users will be able to pause, rewind and record live TV for watching back later, and considering that a remote and WinTV software are already bundled in, you should be all set right out of the &pound;79.99 ($158) box.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/blogs/index.cfm?entryid=1811&amp;blogid=18">PC Advisor</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/others/" rel="tag">Others</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ota/" rel="tag">OTA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/20/hauppauge-reveals-wintv-nova-s-usb2-freesat-tuner/">Hauppauge reveals WinTV Nova-S USB2 Freesat tuner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 20 Apr 2008 08:03:00 EST. Lots of HTPC fans have been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/11/hauppauge-intros-usb-pvr-with-component-input/">salivating</a> over the promise of the Hauppauge <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HDPVR/">HD PVR</a>. That pesky "analog hole" looks like it might be the best solution for our imperfect tech world. Without integrated Windows MCE support <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/30/the-hauppauge-hd-pvr-with-component-inputs-gets-delayed/">yet</a>, the race is on to deliver some PVR software that's step above the bundled apps. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SageTV/">SageTV</a> has already tantalized us with advance <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/04/hauppauge-hd-pvr-shows-itself-pre-order-said-to-be-coming-soon/">info</a> on the hardware, so you know support in its product is coming soon. Now we see that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SnapStream/">SnapStream</a> has a prototype unit in its mitts, so you can assume it's cooking in everything needed for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/beyondtv">Beyond TV</a>. But neither of them is going to be first to deliver -- that honor goes to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GBPVR/">GB-PVR,</a> which did a wayback machine number on us and built support in to its 1.2.9 release back on March 9th. Nice 0-day hardware support! Turns out the poor developer is just "too busy with other stuff" and doesn't have HD content to really show this off right now, though (they're located in New Zealand).<br /><br /><strong>UPDATE:</strong> The developer himself wants to clarify the motivation behind his quote: because he's in New Zealand, which uses DVB-T for free OTA HD, he personally doesn't have a need for the HD PVR. He thinks the HD PVR will be huge in N. America, though. Thanks for the clarification and the hard work, Graeme!<br /><br /><a href="http://blogs.snapstream.com/2008/04/07/the-hauppauge-hd-pvr-in-the-lab-at-snapstream/">Read</a> - Hauppauge HD PVR on the SnapStream bench<br /><a href="http://projecthtpc.threesixty.cc/2008/04/08/gb-pvr-129-already-supports-the-hauppauge-hd-pvr/">Read</a> - GB-PVR announced support for HD PVR in March<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/recorders/" rel="tag">Recorders</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/set-top-boxes/" rel="tag">Set-top boxes</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/10/gb-pvr-called-first-on-the-hauppauge-hd-pvr-over-a-month-ago/">GB-PVR called "first" on the Hauppauge HD PVR over a month ago</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 16:59:00 EST. We've seen it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/11/hauppauge-intros-usb-pvr-with-component-input/">announced</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/30/the-hauppauge-hd-pvr-with-component-inputs-gets-delayed/">delayed</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/04/hauppauge-hd-pvr-shows-itself-pre-order-said-to-be-coming-soon/">pictured</a> -- now the time to place your order has finally come. The highly-anticipated Hauppauge HD PVR -- which sports a hardware H.264 encoder, component video inputs, NTSC / PAL / SECAM support and loads more for HD junkies to love -- is finally available to order. You heard right, for $249 you can drop this puppy in your shopping cart and await its presence in your humble abode. Shipping times, however, could be another matter entirely.<br /><br />[Thanks, JAW IV]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dvrs/" rel="tag">DVRs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/recorders/" rel="tag">Recorders</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/set-top-boxes/" rel="tag">Set-top boxes</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/hauppauge-hd-pvr-now-available-for-order/">Hauppauge HD PVR now available for order</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Apr 2008 18:25:00 EST. As you can see, however, it isn't exactly much to look at, but the promised real-time H.264 compression of 1080i video from a component video source should be more enough to make up for any design quibbles. What's so exciting about an HD PVR card for a computer? Well, with this USB device you can record anything you want, from wherever you want, using whatever PVR software you want. No longer will you have to wait for DirecTV's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HDPC20/">HDPC-20</a>, or deal with ATI's CableCARD OEM requirements. You'll be able to slap this USB device into just about any computer and roll your own PVR, just like you could before HD came along and ruined everything. In fact, the only bad thing about this device -- besides the wait and the $250 price tag -- is that it captures the uncompressed HD signal and encodes it in real time with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/H264/">H.264,</a> which opens up an opportunity for a degraded signal. Speaking of H.264, because it's required Vista Media Center isn't supported yet. Many have their hopes up that the Fiji release, that's also due this Summer, will include it. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2008-03/hauppauge-hd-pvr-component-video-recorder-delayed/">ZatzNotFunny</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/30/the-hauppauge-hd-pvr-with-component-inputs-gets-delayed/">The Hauppauge HD PVR with component inputs gets delayed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 30 Mar 2008 20:45:00 EST. If you don't believe that old-school analog component connections are any <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/13/hdmi-vs-component/">good</a>, keep walking. True, there will be some degradation after the signal makes its digital-to-analog-to-digital journey, but we like the universal applicability of this device. Been on the lookout for a USB TV tuner with NTSC, ATSC <em>and</em> Clear-QAM support? Look no further than Hauppauge, which has proudly introduced the WinTV-HVR-950Q to handle all of the aforementioned needs. Additionally, the stick comes bundled with a credit card-sized remote capable of controlling the action from any given sofa, and it obviously supports the firm's SoftPVR and SoftMCE software MPEG-2 encoders. We know you're eager to cram one in your laptop and hop on a jet to a land far, far away, so you'll be quite pleased to know that it ships this month for $99.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/07/hauppauge-intros-wintv-hvr-950q-usb-tuner-with-clear-qam-support/">Hauppauge intros WinTV-HVR-950Q USB tuner with Clear-QAM support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 14:52:00 EST. According to a lengthy list of complaints over at TheGreenButton, it appears that some Canadian cable providers (Rogers and Shaw, namely) are seemingly throwing the broadcast flag onto a questionable amount of content. Essentially, users who are trying to record said programming via their own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=vista+media+center">Windows Vista Media Center</a> setup are receiving all sorts of errors and messages informing them that the material (even on basic cable) they are trying to record is laced with "restrictions set by the broadcaster and / or originator of the content." Interestingly, it seems that the blame here lies more with the cable companies and not some glitch within <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Vista/">Vista</a>, as more than a few customers have received responses from their providers suggesting that they ditch the whole PVR idea and instead rely on the company-provided <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DVR/">DVR</a> (at a cost, of course). So, dear Canadians, are any of you fighting this same battle?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/homeentertainment/" rel="tag">Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/mediapcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/01/canadian-cable-providers-locking-out-vista-media-centers/">Canadian cable providers locking out Vista Media Centers?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 01 Jun 2007 16:47:00 EST. There are never enough PCI slots to support all the tuners we want in a home theater PC . Sure if you are satisfied with one or two tuners you're fine, but if you go big with lets say 8, you need to get more than one tuner per PCI slot. The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 does just that, and now they have added support for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=QAM">QAM</a>, which is great for watching HD cable channels without a set top box or even a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=CableCARD">CableCARD</a>. Sure you can't watch HBO or any of the other encrypted channels, but there is still plenty of great HD programming out there. As with anything else there is a catch, the QAM support is only available on the retail version of the product, and as we all know; <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/04/ask-hd-beat-does-mce-support-qam/">Windows Media Center Edition and Vista Media center, don't support QAM</a>. So you will have to use the bundled software to take advantage of the new feature.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/media-pcs/" rel="tag">Media PCs</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/tuners/" rel="tag">Tuners</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cable/" rel="tag">Cable</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/18/hauppauge-adds-qam-support-to-the-wintv-hvr-1600-dual-tuner-card/">Hauppauge adds QAM support to the WinTV-HVR-1600 dual tuner card</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 18 May 2007 15:36:00 EST.
