Seeing how it's the end of the year, it's as good a time as any to formulate a list of 2008's killer smartphones -- and with an 8-megapixel cam rounding out a what's-what list of awesome specs, the S60-based Samsung INNOV8 really needs to makes the cut. In fact, it's so hardcore -- arguably the most powerful S60 phone ever released -- that it seemed like a forgone conclusion from day one that we wouldn't be seeing it in North America (yeah, we're jaded like that). Samsung might have other ideas, though, now that we've seen a version of the INNOV8 garner FCC approval with WCDMA (presumably 7.2Mbps HSDPA, to be specific) on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. Given that Samsung's mobile division doesn't really have a direct relationship with end users in the States, we'd expect this to be a branded set for either Rogers or AT&T -- but at any rate, whichever carrier it happens to be, we salute your infinite wisdom.[Via Symbian-Guru]

Samsung's 8-megapixel beast is now ready for carrier-free consumption -- but it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. Actually, it'll probably cost you both arms, at which point you'll need to find a more creative (but still very worthwhile) technique for steadying that insane cam and navigating its S60 3.2-based interface. Just how much are we talking here? Well, for reference, you can nab the INNOV8 for as little as zilch on Orange, but Expansys' UK outlet now has the little badasses in stock for £534.99 (which is basically a grand in US currency, give or take). Extreme, yes -- but that strike against your credit limit's going to buy you 7.2Mbps HSDPA, GPS, and the envy of an N96 owner or two, so it might be worth the bankruptcy proceedings after all.[Via IntoMobile]

In what may be some type of time to market record, Samsung's 8 megapixel monster just popped up for Orange UK just a handful of weeks after we first heard word. As a quick refresher -- though, seriously, this should still be fresh on your minds -- it packs the aforementioned 8 megapixel shooter, dual-band 7.2 Mbit HSPA, quad-band EDGE, 16GB internal memory, Bluetooth, FM radio, and even a blink and smile recognition mode when shooting. Pricing -- on Mobile.co.uk -- is set from £free on 18 months and they'll even throw in a spare Nokia 1650 on pay as you go with a £10 credit. Not too shabby eh? So why not rush out and grab one and let us know what you think.

We've already gotten word of most of the details of Samsung's i8510 INNOV8 (get it?) smartphone, but things just got a whole lot more official for the device in Europe and, coincidentally, a number of sites recently got to spend some time with the phone in NYC (despite the lack of an official US release). Of course, there's not a whole lot of surprises to be found, but it certainly seems like the phone will get the job done and then some, with its built in camera not only boasting an impressive 8 megapixels, but auto-focus, image stabilization, and a flash as well. The rest of the specs aren't too shabby either. Head on past the break to check out one video of the device courtesy of MobileBurn, and be sure to hit up the Laptop Mag link below for a second, higher-quality look at it.Read - Press ReleaseRead - MobileBurn, "Samsung's i8510 Innov8 S60 smartphone"Read - Laptop Mag, "Hands-on with the Samsung i8510"
