'Jason Bourne' in 3D is making moviegoers in China nauseous

In China, where 80 percent of movie theaters built in the last 10 years have 3D projectors, movie studios often release "exclusive," three-dimensional adaptations of movies that won't actually see a 3D release stateside. While that can be lucrative for a studio's bottom line, the plan apparently backfired for Universal Picture's latest big budget action flick. Jason Bourne may be dumb about technology, but as The Hollywood Reporter explains, a 3D conversion of the film is actually leaving moviegoers feeling dizzy and nauseous, thanks to director Paul Greengrass' fast-paced, handheld camerawork.

'Jason Bourne' is embarrassingly dumb about tech

Jason Bourne, the latest film featuring Matt Damon's amnesiac assassin, isn't just a bad movie -- it's woefully ignorant about almost every aspect of technology. And that's a big problem when tech underpins almost everything in the film, from the social media company with a billion users that the U.S. government is secretly involved with, to the hacker collective trying to access and leak sensitive data from the CIA. We're used to seeing Hollywood dumb down technology in movies, but that's harder to stomach in a series focused on high-level government intelligence. And in a world where Mr. Robot has shown that you can balance technical accuracy with a compelling narrative, Jason Bourne simply has no excuse.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment detailed its list of Ultra HD Blu-ray releases scheduled this summer, and it's just the tip of the iceberg for 4K home video collectors. Beginning with Warcraft, Jason Bourne, and The Huntsman: Winter's War, more than 100 titles will be available by the end of the year for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and digital formats. Each title will be mastered in Dolby Vision as well, with HDR and brighter colors across digital and physical releases.

Just in case you weren't sure what's inside, these boxes for the upcoming Jason Bourne Blu-ray releases -- due on Universal's new flipper DVD combo discs -- are very clear about what to expect. While they may be slightly better than our Photoshopped imagining, we suspect even more than a blazing BOTH VERSIONS ON ONE DISC header, it will be the (still unrevealed) pricetag that either pull customers in or pushes them away January 19.

Once upon a time Universal was the hybrid disc king, with plans to release up to 90% of its 2007 HD DVD titles on the dual sided discs, but we know how that ended. Now the company is back to its old tricks, ready to ship the first BD-59 discs with a 50GB Blu-ray / 9GB DVD configuration promising movie and all available special features in whichever format is desired. The expensive answer to a question no one was asking or the perfect way to add future proofing and extended compatibility to new movie purchases? We'll know more once a price is announced for the Jason Bourne trilogy of movies -- seeing their first individual Blu-ray releases -- due on January 19.

Those who wouldn't consider themselves fans of office equipment-related acts of violence should probably go ahead and skip this video altogether -- but if you're the kind of person who owns multiple copies of the Jean Claude Van Damme masterpiece "Bloodsport", feel free to treat yourself to the above trailer for Sierra's adaptation of Robert Ludlum's popular series of espionage novels, The Bourne Conspiracy. Who knew literature could be so ... pugilistic? We're still waiting for that lackluster gameplay montage or negative hands-on writeup to confirm our general apprehension towards adapted games, but with the continuing font of sizzle trailers Sierra is churning out, our steadfast trepidation is waning. Damon be damned -- we can't wait for Conspiracy's June 3 release date.

Yes folks, another tie-in. The Bourne Ultimatum is coming to theaters this summer while a different, next-gen offering The Bourne Conspiracy, hits PS3 and Xbox 360 next year in 2008. The game is tailoring its plot around Jason Bourne's identity, borrowing heavily from source materials of ... The Bourne Identity. We don't fully understand why Ludlum Entertainment doesn't just call the game The Bourne Identity, other than perhaps to induce confusion amongst the franchise titles. Considering the first film already has a well-established fan base, it would seem starting the game franchise at the base level and allowing sequels to follow the film release time line would make more sense. But hey, we don't make games, we just play 'em. What do we know? Fans of The Bourne Identity novel and film reiteration will also notice new story elements added to the game. For example, the game will include the pivotal moment when Jason Bourne first learns his identity and the discovery of the overabundant cans of whoopin' he has at his disposal. No release date yet, but expect to hear more on this after The Bourne Ultimatum's release this summer and subsequent (and highly likely) DVD release.[Update: The Bourne Ultimatum is coming to theaters this summer. The Bourne Conspiracy is the game title only, of which there has yet to be a film reiteration. Corrections made to the post clarifying this. Thanks, The Sh0wstopper & Jon K]

High Moon Studios (which you may remember from Darkwatch) and Sierra Entertainment are doing their best Tom Clancy impersonation, bringing Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne character to the 360 and PS3. But in a refreshing twist, The Bourne Conspiracy goes the Riddick route, eschewing rushing a game out to match a film release and instead aiming for summer 2008.Plot description in the press release makes TBC seem like a prequel of sorts, letting players control the amnesia-prone super agent in his early days. Gameplay details on the game, described as a "third-person espionage action game" are scarce, but more will apparently be revealed at E3 and in the August issue of the Official Xbox Magazine.%Gallery-4294%
