One of the two TV shows needed to bring women to high definition is now going 720p. The View will switch to HDTV format September 5 as they add new host Rosie O'Donnell. While Oprah is still in SD, ABC also broadcasts Good Morning America in high def. Jessica Simpson will be a special guest on the episode, in case you needed a better reason to get up before noon other than seeing Barbara Walters (but not Star Jones) in 720 stunning vertical lines of resolution. With MHD, Food Network and now daytime television following primetime programming to HDTVs, the day when your mother/daughter/sister calls you to ask "What do you think about LCD vs. plasma TVs?" draws that much closer.

It's not like some sort of DRM floodgate has been unlocked, and now unrestricted files flow freely from the Yahoo! Music vaults, but one unrestricted MP3 file has made its way onto their site, so we're going to milk it for all its worth. The song, "A Public Affair" by Jessica Simpson, can be "personalized" by choosing your name before downloading, which gets yourself inserted into the lyrics. If you'd rather not have Jessica singing your name, you can at least sit on the sidelines with us and debate the ramifications of the release. Yahoo! Music's official blog discusses the future of unprotected MP3 releases, stating the premium price was for the custom content, and mulls over the possibility of a $1.09 price point for straight up MP3 files. They don't see much hope of getting the labels to go for it just yet, but with experiments like this it shows we at least have Yahoo! on our side trying to make the music market more of a free one.[Via paidContent]

This is kind of neat. Yahoo! Music is offering a customized MP3 of Jessica Simpson's song 'A Public Affair.' What is customized about it? If your name is on a predetermined list you can buy a version of the song that includes your name in the lyrics for only $1.99.Scott is currently on the list, but I don't think I'll be shelling out 2 bucks for this novelty, though it will play on your iPod (and you can burn it to a CD).

  • Oy-yoy-yoy: Jessica Simpson partners with Xbox

A recent press release pimping Jessica Simpson's new album mentions Xbox as an "online partner," which makes sense given the cross-promotion deal Microsoft inked with Epic Records a while back. Does this mean Simpson's meshuggina mammaries and minimal talent will be showing up on Xbox Live in the near future? It would a appear so. Personally, I prefer the Chabad Hasidic reggae stylings of the current "Artist of the Month," Matisyahu, though I would like to see Jessica take a shot at spelling "Hasidic" in a downloadable video. I'm not accusing Microsoft of taking a step backward musically, but "King Without a Crown" to "Shiksa With Her Top Down" seems like a pretty steep spiritual cliff.

Warner Home Video isn't showing off their September HD DVD releases just yet, but they have added two movies for release July 11. HDTV owners have been clamoring for bigger and better titles on high definition DVD formats and while these may not be the special-effect loaded killer titles we would like to see, they aren't bad either. Dukes of Hazzard did pretty well at the box office last year starring the guy from Jackass, Stifler and a pop singer as the Dukes family. Now it comes to HD DVD with Warner's In Movie Experience (IME) feature promising a "trouble-making, car-crashing, barroom-brawling in-movie viewing experience". We were hoping for a silent version of Jessica Simpson's music video, but this will have to do.The other movie announced is Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon, originally released just after his death and possibly his most popular movie in the U.S. Both movies will feature the same extras as their DVD counterparts and carry an SRP of $28.99. Warner is still expected to release on Blu-ray as well, but we haven't received any information on dates or titles.
