NBC shot an entire episode of the 'Tonight Show' with the Galaxy S10+

Samsung is no stranger to using TV events as sales pitches for its smartphones, but now it's taking over an entire TV show. Variety has learned that the March 25th episode of NBC's Tonight Show will replace the usual studio program with a tour of Jimmy Fallon's favorite New York City locales (complete with The Roots and guests) shot entirely with a Galaxy S10+ phone. In essence, it's one long ad for the smartphone's cameras. Samsung's Patricio Paucar isn't shy about the reasoning, either -- it's an attempt to "break through the noise" and get people to pay attention when they might tune out the usual commercials.

  • Jimmy Fallon gifts his audience with iPads

Everybody in the studio audience last night for NBC's Tonight Show got a little something last night from host Jimmy Fallon: a sparkling new iPad Air 2. Fallon is a huge fan of Apple products, with a MacBook on his set desk and iPad doo-wop duets with Robert Plant and Billy Joel to his credit. What a lot of people may not know is that he and Justin Timberlake are the voices for those iPhone 6/6 Plus ads that you've been watching the past few months. We don't know the specs of the iPads given away, like how much storage or whether or not they're Wi-Fi + Cellular models, but each iPad Air 2 at a minimum cost Mr. Fallon or NBC US$499... unless he got 'em as payment for the ads. Fallon does refer to them as "iPad 2s" during the giveaway hoopla, but he wouldn't be playing The Grinch by giving away an old iPad now, would he? Enjoy the video over on the NBC site, since their video embed didn't want to play nice with TUAW.

Along with its announcement for the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus, Apple released two new television ads for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on its YouTube channel. One ad, "Duo," focuses on the outer aesthetics of the devices, showcasing the pair being used in a side-by-side comparison. The other ad, "Health," is more informative with details on the health features made possible by the new M8 processor and iOS 8. The voices in both ads are those of Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon, who appear to be the new comic relief post-John Hodgman/Justin Long. I hope we'll be hearing more of them in upcoming ads.

If you have former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan on your late night chat show, the only right thing to do is to put a N64 controller in his hands and make him play himself in GoldenEye 007, however terrible he is at the multiplayer. And he really is terrible at it. [Image: Nintendo]

Jimmy Fallon and Channing Tatum strapped into Sony's Project Morpheus virtual reality headset and came away with a strong consensus: "This is insane." Fallon and Tatum demoed Project Morpheus on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, wherein they played a round of medieval knight-punching and crossbow-shooting. We got our hands (and face) on Project Morpheus during GDC 2014, and we played the same demo, though with slightly fewer exclamations of insanity. Maybe Fallon and Tatum's suped-up excitement had something to do with the martinis they sipped beforehand. Drunken dragon slaying, anyone? [Image: NBC]

  • 15-Year-Old inventor shows off iPhone-powered Steth IO stethoscope to Jimmy Fallon

15-year-old CEO Suman Mulumudi, along with his father and cardiologist Mahesh Mulumudi, have developed a working stethoscope that is powered by your iPhone or Android smartphone. The iPhone fits into a case with a diaphragm -- similar to that on a regular stethoscope -- that captures the sounds of a beating heart. The sound is routed through a channel that directs it to the iPhone's microphone. An associated app can then record the heartbeat sounds and display the individual heartbeats on the smartphone's display. Mulumudi recently showcased the Steth IO on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon as part of the show's "Fallonventions" segment, which is sponsored by GE and used to showcase young inventors. Mulumudi and his father are developing this stethoscope, along with LesionSizer, a device that reduces unnecessary stents in angioplasty, as part of a startup company called StratoScientific. StratoScientific recently won first place at the recent WTIA Spring First Look Forum, beating out 14 other startups.

In this, the Great Console Wars of The Year of Luigi, we'll let you decide which system came up trumps in the battle of the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon demos. For its part the other night, Microsoft went with a brief demo of the Xbox One's personalized user interface, followed by some beard-enhancing scanning ahead of a spot of jet-skiing in Kinect Sports Rivals. As Microsoft's Blain Howard noted, that Sports Rivals jet-skiing game is a temporary freebie for early adopters. As long as you download the Preseason trial before November 30, you'll be able to make some motion-controlled waves until March 2014.

The PlayStation 4 returned on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week with a cuter, cuddlier demo in contrast to Killzone: Shadow Fall. Yet it still led to undue physical violence. Some people, like Fallon, just want to play and have fun with the adorable augmented-reality robots of tech demo The Playroom. Then there are people like Fallon's guest Ice-T, who can't resist giving the innocent little androids a boot up the hiney. While the audience was impressed by what The Playroom can do, they reserved their fullest applause for when a poor robot was pelted flat against the screen by the rapper-turned-actor. Don't forget, this guy has starred in fighting games as himself. The Playroom is pre-installed on every PS4, and as you can see it uses the PlayStation Camera in some impressive ways. Check out own less violent hands-on video right here.

Much like a celebrity just before a book launch, the PS4 will make a returning appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon later this week. If you recall, Fallon got the first PS4 demo after the console's reveal back in February, when he and guest Anthony Anderson tried out Killzone: Shadow Fall. It's hard to forget how Anderson handled the DualShock like a cat who'd just had his tail pulled, or a potato baked on the surface of the sun. It was not pretty. There are no details in NBC's schedule about what to expect from this pre-launch demo, but we know Sony is planning "exclusive world premieres and announcements" at its PS4 All Access show that starts later in the day. What are the chances the PS4 announcement party gets going a bit early? We'll find out either way when Fallon's show airs at 12:35AM ET, Thursday, November 14 (9:35PM PT November 13) on NBC.

In honor of Video Game Week, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon's team collaborated with Felicia Day, Chris Hardwick and the WoW community to put a video together of a parody song, as you can see above. The video was aired last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and shows off not only the three aforementioned stars, but also several podcasters, streamers, and content creators, all members of our WoW community. As one of those people, specifically the one swaying gently with the gryphon plushy, I can give you a little bit of background! Blizzard sent out an email a couple of weeks back, asking for people to create a video of themselves singing along to the chorus. There were no other stipulations, and, as Blizzard had no control whatsoever over the finished product, there were no guarantees that your clip would be included. And, of course, we had to keep it under our hats. Luckily, they didn't use our audio. Hope you like it, I was honored to be included!

The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show got the first PS4 demo outside of the PlayStation event this morning, and it saw Killzone: Shadow Fall taking the limelight. Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst first showed off the DualShock 4 controller before taking Fallon and guest Anthony Anderson through a hands-on demo of Shadow Fall. While the three-minute demo was essentially the same sequence showcased in the reveal trailer, a couple of interesting morsels did emerge. While talking about the greater range of possibilities with the PS4's boosted hardware, Hulst noted the demo's climbing segment as something Guerrilla wasn't "able to do with Killzone before." Secondly, we got a clearer look at Shadow Fall's slowdown mechanic in action, which Hulst called "Focus Mode."Also, as much as we'd prefer to see useful footage of just-announced hardware, we did snigger at Anderson pointing the controller all over the shop like a man trying to hold on to a wriggly kitten. What good is a hands-on demo, Mr Anderson, if you're unable to play it?Killzone: Shadow Fall is coming to the PS4 at launch, which is due Holiday 2013.

The last we heard about The Last of Us arriving at retail, it was pinned to "late 2012/early 2013." That date seemingly shifted to a less definitive "2013" recently, as Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann and game director Bruce Straley told Jimmy Fallon as much on last night's Late Night. The Naughty Dog duo also gave Fallon a personal walkthrough of the gameplay we saw back at E3, with 100 percent fewer swears and 100 percent more Jimmy Fallon commentary. If you're into that kinda thing, we've got it above.

As promised, the first console-based action from Battlefield 3 appeared last evening on Jimmy Fallon's late night show, teasing a scene we've watched play out a dozen or so times now on the PC version. Despite the grumblings of many long-time PC Battlefield gamers -- not to mention our own doubts -- BF3 running on PlayStation 3 looks pretty wonderful. We'll leave it to the pixel counters at Digital Foundry to fully analyze the difference between console and PC releases of Battlefield 3 when it launches this October, but given our lack of expensive gaming rigs and our overabundance of Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s, you can guess where we'll be playing the next big Battlefield title. Head past the break to see how Fallon fared.

Of all the things that Jimmy Fallon is -- a man who can't help but laugh at his own jokes, half the starring cast of the hit film Taxi -- he's been largely represented on Joystiq in one way: as a gamer. Fallon held up his reputation once again last night by having Naughty Dogs Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra on to show off Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, playing through a bit of the demo we saw last week at E3. Most odd about the demo, however, is Fallon's repeated amazement at what the game does when he himself isn't actually controlling Drake's actions. If Naughty Dog was hoping for Fallon to dramatically point out the game's scripted action moments, he more than overdelivers. Head past the break and look on in amazement with us, won't you?

We've seen quite a bit of the drop-dead gorgeous PC version of Battlefield 3, but thus far the console version has been kept out of the public eye. That's set to change tomorrow night, as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will debut the console version of Battlefield 3. Specifically, the Battlefield Blog reveals that Jimmy will be demonstrating the PS3 version of the game with the help of DICE's Johan Dohl. The show is scheduled to air tomorrow night at 12:35AM (11:35PM CST). The demo comes as part of Jimmy Fallon's video game week. Tonight's episode will feature Uncharted 3 and the Wii U is expected on Friday. In case you missed them, we've embedded Monday and Tuesday's sneak peeks of Modern Warfare 3 and Gears of War 3 after the break.

We expected Jimmy Fallon to flip out during Reggie Fils-Aime's 3DS demonstration during last night's episode of Late Night. We expected the audience to get a kick out of the device's AR functionality. However, we did not expect the 3DS to swap Fallon's gender on live national television. Priceless.

With only two days until launch, it looks like Nintendo is finally ready to get the word out on the 3DS. Tonight at 12:35am (11:35pm Central) Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime will pay a visit to his good friend, Jimmy Fallon. Reggie will be bringing a DS and Face Raiders along with him, so expect plenty of face-blasting antics. Who knows, maybe Reggie will do his best to top Kudo by giving a 3DS to everyone in the audience. We can only hope Reggie also breaks out 3DS camera's facial "merge" feature. If he doesn't, however, we've put our best effort into capturing the same magic with the monstrosities you see above. You're welcome!
