LG's 55- and 65-inch 4K TVs go on sale in the US for $5,999 and $7,999
Thought Samsung had the US market for 65-inch Ultra HD televisions cornered? Think again. Hot on the heels of its competitor, LG has announced that its 55- and 65-inch UHD sets will sell for $5,999 and $7,999, respectively. They also pack a new feature -- a powered 4.1 channel speaker bar that appears / disappears beneath the front lip of the TV. The prices aren't chump change by any stretch of the imagination, but they're certainly more affordable than LG's last UHD TV: an 84-inch monster that sold for a staggering $19,999. Still, getting your hands on one isn't easy -- like its 84-inch set, LG's latest screens are making their debut exclusively in southern California, and will eventually roll out to stores nationwide. Sure, driving out to Santa Monica to pick up a new TV might not be convenient, but at least it's closer than South Korea -- if you're not in the US, the company expects to roll them out in the UK, Russia and Australia soon. LG showcases 2012 HDTV line-up: Big screens, skinny bezels
LG has hit us with its list of HDTVs for 2012, and they're channeling the design chops of that sumptuous 55-inch OLED HDTV. All of the new models, including the LM9600, LM8500, LM7600 and LM6700 all squeeze the bezel down to 5mm and a chassis pushing just over 4mm thick. The LM9600 and LM8600 arrive with dual-core processors to assist with load speeds and voice recognition through the Korean giant's Magic Remote. MHL connectivity is in attendance, as is LG's new dashboard. Next, the LMG850 and LMG620 are new LED offerings for this year, including a Google TV interface and a new remote that pairs together some magic remote functionality and a QWERTY keyboard. LG are going for 3D big time, with 25 new models of LED HDTVs, forgoing the active shutter route for lighter (battery-free) passive glasses. More the more artistically gifted, LG's PenTouch plasma TV (PM6900) allows input through the display panel through a new dedicated pen and will be compatible with photo-editing and PowerPoint presentations.
LG flexes its pre-CES design muscle with a cubey AirPlay dock, svelte 3D HDTVs (update)
LG has a habit of creating gadgets for everyday use with super-thin and ultra-sleek designs. This year, the company was recently awarded a whopping 12 Innovation Awards for CES 2012, which notably included very light details on three of its upcoming Smart TVs and its cubey Powerful Sound AirPlay-enabled speaker dock. Among the displays are two 55-inch HDTVs, dubbed LED Cinema 3D LM8600 and Nano Full LED Cinema 3D LM9600 -- both are listed as sporting "LG's narrowest bezel and ultra-slim Clear Screen design," but the Nano variant is said to offer "brighter and smoother" picture quality. For the plasma lovers out there, LG's also let details loose on its PM9700 -- a massive 60-inch 3D HD Plasma display, complete with a Magic Motion remote. For those on the audio side, that cubey AirPlay speaker is said to pack 80-watts of power and a 2.1 stereo speaker array, along with an obligatory iDevice dock on its top.
