In a bid to get his Wiimote-compatible music software Wii Loop Machine out on the market, Yann Seznec pursued funding from an unlikely source: popular BBC show Dragon's Den. For the uninitiated, Dragon's Den follows a similar concept to American Inventor -- hopeful entrepreneurs line up in front of unimaginably rich businessmen and beg for funding to assist their zany ideas, while we smugly laugh at their expense from the comfort of our armchairs. Those of you in the UK who caught last night's edition of Dragon's Den may well have spotted the affable Yann selling his software to the miserable millionaires. Alas, like so many of the show's participants, Yann's excellent work didn't grab the imaginations of the dragons, though they did seem to acknowledge its potential. "I've got to give you credit," quipped businessman Peter Jones after watching Seznec waft his Wiimotes about to demo the software, "You look like a complete idiot, but actually, it sounded quite good." Charming.[Update: YouTube video added, thanks Mouthsmasher!]

Many of you might not know what the Wii Loop Machine is. Don't worry, though -- the concept is simple enough. Essentially, it's software that enables you to mix, compose, and perform songs using the Wiimote and recorded music samples. We've seen similar things before, but that doesn't make this any less cool or impressive. You'll also be able to download version 2.0 in early February at Yann's website and try it out for yourselves (if you own a Mac, that is).The first video is just an introduction to the capabilities of version 2.0, but the second video (embedded after the break) shows Yann at work. We highly recommend that music lovers take a look!

That Wii and Mac, they really make such a great couple. As you can see in the above video, when coupled with a Mac and utilizing the Amazing Rolo's Wii Loop Machine, the Wiimote that reinvented how we play games can also reinvent how you get your bad self down. The video really makes it look easy ... perhaps too easy. [Via TUAW]

It takes a certain level of determination and creativity to shun the smorgasbord of other music-related Wii mods already out there, and to be quite honest, the Wii Loop Machine does a fair job of putting the other alternatives to shame. Taking full advantage of the Wiimote's ability to be used at will with a Bluetooth receiver and the right coding, the music manipulation software allows beat lovers to scroll through loops, twist up the jams, drop the bass, toss in a delay, and pretty much hack up the tunes at will with a combination of button mashes and Wiimote slinging. Currently, the software is only compatible with OS X, but the creator is definitely interested in your contact information if you can port this stuff over on the Windows side of life. So if you've already got a home-based studio set up, and your Mac just isn't getting enough love, be sure to hit the read link and check out the deets, or click on through if you're yearning for lesson in geekified mixing.[Via Joystiq, thanks Andy]
