  • How would you change Nokia's Lumia 625?

The company formerly known as Nokia liked to release a lot of devices, to the point where its round-number naming system got a bit confusing. Instead of being a spec-bump replacement for the 620, the Nokia Lumia 625 was an entirely different device altogether. The handset came with a 4.7-inch display and LTE, but no compelling reason to own one instead of the many other units in the range. If you wanted to sum up the piece in a single word, it'd probably be: ehhhhhhhh -- not because it was bad, but because it had little reason to be there. We imagine plenty of you grabbed one, so what we'd like to know is why, and did you regret the decision? Head on over to our forum and tell us about life with the 625.

  • Nokia Lumia 1020 and 625 launch in Canada

After teasing its release plans in the summer, Nokia has finally launched two of its most recent smartphones in Canada. The Lumia 1020 is now available through both Rogers and Telus for $199 on a two-year contract ($600 to $725 contract-free) in either yellow or black. Aspiring shutterbugs can also buy the camera grip in either color for $75. If the 1020 is beyond your budget, you'll be glad to hear that Telus is also offering the Lumia 625 for free on a contract, or $300 with no commitment. The releases aren't well-timed when Nokia is unveiling new devices in a matter of weeks, but Canucks who've faced a recent drought of Windows Phones should be happy.

  • Nokia Lumia 625 review

Another week, another Lumia. This latest grenade thrown by Nokia in its continued assault on the smartphone market is the Lumia 625. Following up on its previous high-end devices -- the good-looking one, the one with the fancy camera -- the 625 is a soldier of lower rank. There's already an army of budget Windows Phones that fill various niches, so what's the deal? Well, despite the number on its dog tag, the 625 is far from a Lumia 620 variant: it's a completely different phone. For starters, it sports the biggest screen of any Lumia to date (for now, anyway). Actually, make that any Nokia phone ever made. But the real reason it exists has nothing to do with the display size; it's all about the 4G radio hiding away inside. Does LTE, plus a big screen and eyebrow-raising price tag, make it worth your while, though?

Brits who've wanted Nokia's budget phone ambitions writ large -- namely, the Lumia 625 -- won't have to wait much longer. The 4.7-inch Windows Phone will be available on August 28th through EE, O2, Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U. If you're interested, you can pick up the device for free on a £21 per month contract, or buy it outright for £179 on pay-as-you-go service; early adopters get a second colored back as a bonus. EE, O2 and Vodafone should all support the Lumia 625's LTE either immediately or the day after, so it's just a matter of choosing the 4G network you prefer.

The rumors were true. Nokia's revealed its biggest phone to date, with a screen measuring in at 4.7 inches. It's the Lumia 625, and it joins a series that has grown a fair bit since the Lumia 620 launched earlier this year. Compared to that earlier phone, the 625 keeps the same resolution (a slightly pixelated 800 x 480), but bumps the processing power up to a dual-core Snapdragon S4. Despite that hulking LCD screen, however, it's still thinner than the Lumia 920 at 9.15mm (0.36 inches). It's a Nokia smartphone, so there are plenty of HSPA radio gadgetry to keep the global fanbase happy. What's more -- and this is rare for an entry-level Lumia -- it also has LTE. Specifically, we're looking at the British EE-friendly Band 3 option here, alongside Bands 7 and 10. If there's anything to remind us that this is no flagship device, it's the camera. Don't expect any 41-megapixel sensors. In fact, get ready to be a little underwhelmed by a 5-megapixel camera module, although you'll still get the likes of the animated gif-making Cinemagraph and the same Smart Camera app seen on the Lumia 925. You'll have 8GB of internal memory to fill with your best photo moments, and there's also a microSD slot behind the removable back. Meanwhile, customization options include orange, green, yellow, white and black cases, although there's no turquoise shade like we saw on the Lumia 620. It's headed to EE, Vodafone, O2, Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse in early September, priced at £200 or 220 euros for continental Europeans. Find our hands-on impressions (and a video!) right after the break.

  • Nokia Lumia 625 leaked, suggests 4.7-inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 5-megapixel cam and LTE (update)

It looks like that "Something Big" that Nokia was hinting about earlier this morning might turn out to be the Nokia Lumia 625, if this leak by Finnish publication Puhelinvertailu is to be believed. The specs appear to match what was revealed a few days ago on China's certification site; it'll apparently sport a 4.7-inch Gorilla Glass 2 IPS WVGA (800 x 480) LCD, a 1.2-GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB RAM and a 2,000mAh battery. The leak also hints at a rear 5-megapixel camera with 1080p recording, a front-facing VGA shooter, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and interestingly, an LTE variant with support for European bands (though we wouldn't rule out North American support later down the line). It's difficult to say exactly how the phone will actually look like up close, however, so it's a good thing we'll be up bright and early tomorrow at 9am UK time (4am Eastern) to see Nokia's unveiling. Update: An additional image of the alleged Nokia Lumia 625, which we've embedded after the break, has just surfaced on @evleaks' Twitter feed. Unfortunately, this latest render tell us nothing new about the handset apart from Nokia's continued design practice of colorful polycarbonate shells. Update 2: @evleaks isn't done posting Lumia 625 pics just yet apparently, as he's just tweeted yet another render of Nokia's latest, but this time in a cascading arrangement. You can take a look at it after the break. Update 3: Yep, there's another Lumia 625 image from @evleaks, and that's after the break as well.

  • Nokia Lumia 625 destined for China with 4.7-inch screen

Well, what do we have here? According to China's official certification website (TENAA), this above is the unannounced Nokia Lumia 625. The handset apparently features a 4.7-inch WVGA screen with super-sensitive touch, 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB of RAM and 2,000mAh battery -- basically a lower-end model. While the listing only mentions GSM / GPRS and WCDMA / HSPA support, the phone supposedly includes LTE, and wraps everything in a unibody design that follows the attractive looks of its smaller cousin, the Lumia 620. In fact, the shape appears to match the RM-941 that passed through the FCC back in June. The device is expected to land in China at the end of July for 1,999 yuan ($325) -- just hit the source link below for more info.
