Throwing in shutter functionality and zoom control alongside a larger viewfinder, it's pretty much a glossy dumb remote; there's no further features to make the most of your precious smartphone, although the camera itself is already capable of linking up your camera shots with your major social network of choice. The app requires a firmware update on the camera, but it should ensure all those self-portraits really <em>pop</em> in the future. Download links for the wannabe self-obsessed are waiting below.</p><p></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/28/panasonic-lumix-fx90-gets-remote-app-for-ios-and-android/">Panasonic Lumix FX90 gets remote app for iOS and Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 28 May 2012 14:07:00 EST. With this latest batch of cameras, the company appears to be taking a more respectable approach -- at least with its high-end X2. But first, let's tackle the V-Lux 40. On the Panasonic front, this camera looks strikingly similar to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-dmc-zs15/">Lumix DMC-ZS20</a> we saw emerge after CES. Both cameras include 14.1-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensors, a 20x, 24-480mm f/3.3-6.4 optical zoom lens and 1080p video capture. The housing has been modified slightly to include a recessed control panel, Panasonic branding has been removed and the Leica logo added. Such luxuries more than double the camera's price from $269 to $699. <strong><em>Ouch.</em></strong> You can pick up the V-Lux 40 beginning today, <em>or</em> you can grab two virtually identical ZS20s for the same amount, with significant cash to spare.</p><p> You may remember the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/leica-gets-official-with-m9-and-x1-cameras-hands-on-ensue/">Leica X1</a>, but you probably don't. This $2,000 shooter was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/leica-x1-review-digs-deep-cant-find-value/">determined to be overpriced</a> when it launched way back in 2009, and now the APS-C-equipped series has returned for a refresh. Dubbed the X2, this year's flavor ups the ante with a 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor (boosted from 12.2) while retaining that beloved $2k sticker price. The compact all-in-one includes a fixed 24mm Leica Elmarit f/2.8 ASPH lens, which the company validates as a "classical focal length for photojournalism," and a 2.7-inch 230k-pixel LCD on the rear. There's also an option to add a Viso-Flex 1.4MP viewfinder with a 90-degree swivel function, along with a shoe-mounted mirror finder. The $1,995 camera's price tag may be tough to swallow -- but only until you discover the gratis copy of Adobe Lightroom in the box. Both the <strike>ZS20</strike> V-Lux 40 and X2 are available now. Snap past the break for the pitch from Leica.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-v-lux-40/">Leica V-Lux 40</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-v-lux-40/#5017467"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leica4001eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-v-lux-40/#5017468"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leica4002eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-v-lux-40/#5017469"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leica4003eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-v-lux-40/#5017470"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leica4004eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-v-lux-40/#5017471"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leica4005eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-x2/">Leica X2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-x2/#5017400"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leicax201eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-x2/#5017401"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leicax202eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-x2/#5017402"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leicax203eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-x2/#5017403"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leicax204eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-x2/#5017404"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/leicax205eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/10/leica-v-lux-40-X2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Leica boosts compact portfolio with V-Lux 40 point-and-shoot, APS-C-equipped X2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/10/leica-v-lux-40-X2/">Leica boosts compact portfolio with V-Lux 40 point-and-shoot, APS-C-equipped X2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 May 2012 17:19:00 EST. After some careful inspection, we're pretty certain that the above picture shows a legit Panasonic Lumix GF5, which from this angle bears much resemblance to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gf3,panasonic">GF3</a> bar the grip. To add credibility here, the uploader is none other than Hong Kong celebrity Angelababy who happens to be the brand ambassador for Panny (oopsie!). Unsurprisingly, the twee model has already removed the offending picture from her account, but the direct image link still works.<br /><br />You may be wondering: shouldn't this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a> camera be the GF4 after the current GF3? Well, much like Chinese superstition, Japan also prefers to steer clear of the number 4 as it sounds the same as "death" in Japanese. For instance: there was no Lumix LX4 before the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/lx5">LX5</a>. As for specs, Chinese website <em>Nphoto</em> reported earlier this month that the GF5 will also feature a 12-megapixel sensor but with a better signal-to-noise ratio and topping at ISO 12800, while on the back it'll have a much sharper LCD with 920k dots (instead of just 460k on the GF3). Judging by the looks of things it shouldn't be long before we see Angelababy presenting this new camera for real -- let's just hope that she gets to keep her job.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/18/panasonic-lumix-gf5-leak-hong-kong/">Panasonic Lumix GF5 accidentally leaked by Hong Kong spokesperson?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 18 Mar 2012 09:33:00 EST. The Lumix DMC-ZS20 and ZS15 include 20x (24-480mm) and 16x (24-384mm) optically stabilized zoom lenses, respectively, 3-inch 460k-pixel LCDs, 1/2.3-inch High Sensitivity MOS sensors and a 10 fps burst shooting mode (5 fps with continuous AF). The higher-end ZS20 features a 14.1 megapixel sensor and 1080/60p video shooting while the ZS15 captures 12.1 megapixel stills and 1080/60i HD clips. Both cameras include 0.1-second "Light Speed Autofocus" and top sensitivity levels of ISO 3200, though you'll need to opt for the ZS20 to take advantage of GPS with map logging and a noise-canceling stereo mic. The pair will ship in March, with a black, red, white or silver ZS20 running you $350, compared with a $280 price tag on the black or silver ZS15. As always, you'll find the full PR after the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-and-dmc-zs15/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 and DMC-ZS15</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-and-dmc-zs15/#4784578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panazspress01eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-and-dmc-zs15/#4784579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panazspress02eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-and-dmc-zs15/#4784580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panazspress03eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-and-dmc-zs15/#4784581"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panazspress04eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-and-dmc-zs15/#4784582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panazspress05eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-dmc-zs15/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic introduces Lumix DMC-ZS20 and ZS15 compact superzoom cameras</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/panasonic-lumix-dmc-zs20-dmc-zs15/">Panasonic introduces Lumix DMC-ZS20 and ZS15 compact superzoom cameras</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 00:00:00 EST. Described as "the optical outdoor companion," the Lumix DMC-TS4 is Panasonic's new ruggedized flagship, replacing the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/25/panasonic-unleashes-lumix-zs10-zs8-fx78-and-ts3-point-and-sho/">TS3</a> and packing a 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor, 1080/60i HD video capture, a 4.6x 28-128mm optical zoom lens and 2.7-inch LCD. Naturally, it can withstand just about everything you'll throw its way, considering that it's waterproof to depths of 40 feet, shockproof to 6.6 feet and freezeproof to temps as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit. The TS4 also includes GPS, compass, altimeter and barometer functionality, logging all this data to supplement your photos with a full weather and location readout. Panasonic has also added full manual control, letting you adjust both aperture and shutter speed when shooting in manual mode.<br /><br />The TS4 may offer a respectable spec list, but it doesn't come cheap. The TS20 is an attractive alliterative, however, with a slim profile, 16.1 megapixel sensor, 720p HD shooting, a 4x 25-100mm optically stabilized zoom lens and a 2.7-inch LCD. It's waterproof to 16 feet, freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit and can survive drops from up to five feet. There's no manual option on this lower-end model, but it does include Panasonic's Intelligent Auto mode for more accurate shooting. The TS20 will ship in late-February in orange, blue, black and red for $180, while the flagship TS4 will be available in orange, blue, black and silver for $400 when it ships in mid-March. You'll find both press releases after the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-and-dmc-ts20/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 and DMC-TS20</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-and-dmc-ts20/#4784444"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panats01eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-and-dmc-ts20/#4784445"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panats02eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-and-dmc-ts20/#4784446"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panats03eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-and-dmc-ts20/#4784447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panats04eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-and-dmc-ts20/#4784448"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panats05eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-dmc-ts20-ruggedized-cameras/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic adds Lumix DMC-TS4 and DMC-TS20 to ruggedized camera line</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts4-dmc-ts20-ruggedized-cameras/">Panasonic adds Lumix DMC-TS4 and DMC-TS20 to ruggedized camera line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 00:00:00 EST. These compact, pro-featured ILCs undoubtedly have a strong future, with mass consumer appeal and a widening assortment of price points. We're particularly taken with the technology's compact footprint -- we're focusing our camera reviews on mirrorless models, and even outfitted our entire CES team with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/sony-alpha-nex-c3-review/">Sony's NEX-C3</a>. But long before the likes of Sony and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/fujifilm-x-pro1-interchangeable-lens-camera-preview-video/">Fujifilm</a> launched their first cameras, Olympus and Panasonic dominated the then-infant mirrorless category, developing the Micro Four Thirds sensor standard, that, for better or worse, has failed to catch on among other manufacturers. Surprisingly, Panasonic's pioneering days were far stronger than those of recent past, with the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF1/">GF1</a> melting the hearts of compact-seeking professionals. But following that successful first model, Panasonic opted to take the GF series in a different direction, launching a dumbed-down <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF2/">GF2</a> (and later <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF3/">GF3</a>) in what was likely an attempt to appeal to the much larger amateur category. This left the GF1 faithful without a worthy successor -- until now.<br /><br /><div class="follow_this_in_post"> <img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/more_info_header_1.gif" /><br /> <div class="ftip_links"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/panasonic-intros-new-lumix-cameras/">Panasonic's Lumix line gets a lot more crowded</a></div> <div class="ftip_links"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/31/panasonic-lumix-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-surfaces-in-leaked/">Panasonic Lumix GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera surfaces in leaked photos</a></div> <div class="ftip_links"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-launches-lumix-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-we-go-han/">Panasonic launches Lumix DMC-GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera, we go hands-on</a></div></div>The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-launches-lumix-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-we-go-han/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1</a> looks pretty standard on paper: there's a 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor, a choice of body colors, RAW shooting, HD video and a top sensitivity of ISO 12,800. Just as it did with the GF2 and GF3 <em>body</em> designs, Panasonic took a different direction with its new X-series lenses, swapping the traditional manual zoom for a motorized version, enabling a much more compact footprint. The difference when positioned alongside the NEX-C3's 18-55mm zoom is staggering, but Panasonic didn't arrive at this slick design without compromise, particularly noticeable when it comes time to swallow the $950 kit price. Still, one look at the hardened matte black metal body is all it takes to know that this is no GF4 -- this is <em>it</em>, the long-awaited successor to the GF1 has finally arrived. So, will the GX1 be our new top pick for the mirrorless category? Join us past the break to find out.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-review/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-review/#4770231"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panasonicgx1body01eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-review/#4770232"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panasonicgx1body02eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-review/#4770233"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panasonicgx1body03eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-review/#4770234"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panasonicgx1body04eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-review/#4770235"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/panasonicgx1body05eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/23/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/23/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-review/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 23 Jan 2012 14:00:00 EST. Panasonic's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic+lumix/">Lumix line</a> is celebrating a whole bunch of new entries this week at CES. The FH series is expanding with two new slim additions, the DMC-FH6 and DMC-FH8. Both models do 720p video at 30 fps and rock Leica lenses and 5x optical zoom. The 16.1 megapixel FH8 has a three-inch LCD and shoots HD videos in MP4. The 14.1 megapixel F6 captures HD video in JPEG format and features a 2.7-inch display. Both new entries in the SZ series, meanwhile, feature 10x optical zoom, three-inch LCDs and 25mm ultra-wide angle Leica lenses. The SZ7 does 14.1 megapixel images and 1080p video, while the SZ1 goes 14.1 megapixels and 720p on the video front.<br />
<br />
Also debuting this week is the LUMIX DMC-S2, a 14.1 megapixel compact shooter with 4x optical zoom and 720p video capabilities. The point-and-shoot also features Panasonic's panoramic mode for stitching together images and auto retouch to adjust contrast and brightness in photos on the fly. As for pricing and availability? Not so much. Panasonic has promised such things a month prior to release -- whenever that might be. Lots of pertinent press info after the break.<br />

To recap, this shooter features a 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, Leica's DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5 - 108 mm f/2.8 - 5.2 ASPH lens (that's 25 - 600mm for you full-frame buffs), 1080p AVC HD video recording at up to 60fps with stereo sound and an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/24/sony-alpha-a77-hands-on-preview-video/">a77</a>-like 12fps continuous burst mode (albeit using manual focus). On back, you'll find an articulating 3-inch LCD loaded with a 460K pixel resolution and a 0.2-inch EVF, both of which feature nearly 100% frame coverage. While there's no word price, you can surely expect the V-Lux 3 to cost a few Benjamins more than its Lumix counterpart when it hits shelves in January. Hey, at least you can say it's a Leica, right?</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/leica-rehashes-panasonics-lumix-fz150-as-the-v-lux-3-because/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Leica rehashes Panasonic's Lumix Fz150 as the V-LUX 3, because 'image' matters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/leica-rehashes-panasonics-lumix-fz150-as-the-v-lux-3-because/">Leica rehashes Panasonic's Lumix Fz150 as the V-LUX 3, because 'image' matters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 08 Dec 2011 18:22:00 EST. With cameras popping up on tablets, smartphones and even <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/looxcie-2-wearable-camcorder-slims-down-adds-some-accessories/">Bluetooth headsets</a>, there's a fairly good chance that there's already a device in your pocket capable of shooting high-res stills and HD video. But even with popular apps like Instagram on-board, mobile devices still can't match the versatility and image quality of a dedicated snapper. If you're looking to hide a new point-and-shoot under the tree this year, there are plenty of great options to consider, for any budget. So clear off the memory card and get ready to jump past the break for our top picks that will deliver -- and capture -- plenty of holiday cheer.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/25/engadgets-holiday-gift-guide-2011-digital-cameras/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Engadget's holiday gift guide 2011: digital cameras</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/25/engadgets-holiday-gift-guide-2011-digital-cameras/">Engadget's holiday gift guide 2011: digital cameras</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 25 Nov 2011 12:00:00 EST. Nope, neither do we, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Panasonic/">Panasonic</a> certainly seems to hope that'll change -- perhaps even as soon as next month, when its Lumix 3D1 hits store shelves... for $500. And how much camera does half a grand buy you? Well, for starters you get not one, but a <em>pair</em> of 25-100mm optical zoom lenses (30-120mm in 3D mode), pumping images to dual 12.1 megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensors. Two lenses and two sensors make this pocket wonder a natural at stereoscopic 3D video, but it can also pull some pretty clever tricks with still photos. Sure, you can shoot full-res stills and 1080i video simultaneously, but those dual zoom lenses can operate independently as well, letting you snap pics and/or video at multiple focal lengths -- capture a wide-angle shot with one lens and a close-up with the other, for example. Panasonic wasn't able to demo this functionality during our briefing, so we can't speak to the interface, but it certainly sounds like a nifty concept. Beyond that, expect up to 8 fps burst at full resolution, a 3.5-inch touchscreen and "dramatically clear" low-light images, even at high-ISOs (according to Panasonic). Ready to hear more from the camera maker? Jump past the break for the full PR.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-3d1/">Panasonic Lumix 3D1</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-3d1/#4585932"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dmc3d1imagea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-3d1/#4585933"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dmc3d1imageb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-3d1/#4585934"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dmc3d1slantclose_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-3d1/#4585935"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dmc3d1slant_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-3d1/#4585936"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dmc3d1top_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-announces-lumix-dmc-3d1-dual-lenses-12-megapixel-sen/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic announces Lumix DMC-3D1: dual lenses, 12 megapixel sensors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-announces-lumix-dmc-3d1-dual-lenses-12-megapixel-sen/">Panasonic announces Lumix DMC-3D1: dual lenses, 12 megapixel sensors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Nov 2011 00:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-launches-lumix-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-we-go-han/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/2011-11-07-gx1main.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>
Remember the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/03/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf1-hands-on/">Lumix GF1</a>? It was one of Panasonic's first Micro Four Thirds cameras, setting the bar quite high for models to come. But the GF1's successors -- the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">GF2</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/panasonic-lumix-gf3-sample-photos-and-video/">GF3</a> -- did not live up to expectations, with the company gradually shifting the series towards transitioning point-and-shoot users, and away from early adopters who grew accustomed to the performance and build quality offered by that beloved early mirrorless cam. Now that familiar look and feel is back, in the form of the Lumix DMC-GX1. The 16 megapixel ILC includes a Live MOS sensor and Venus engine, with a maximum ISO of 12,800. Like other Panasonic G-series cameras, the GX1 uses a Micro Four Thirds mount, and is compatible with both <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Panasonic/">Panasonic</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Olympus/">Olympus</a> lenses, including the standard 14-42mm zoom that ships with the $800 kit, or the Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm retractable lens that comes packaged for $950. Existing lens owners can pick up just the body for $700.<br />
<br />
What we really missed was the solid feel of the GF1 -- everything from the housing to the controls felt well-made, while the design of later GF models, was... underwhelming. Picking up the GX1 helped to restore our confidence in the series -- it was a pleasure to hold. There's quite a bit of power under the hood, too. We weren't able to test the GX1, which is expected to hit stores in mid-December, but Panasonic promises autofocus speeds of 0.09 second -- you can focus simply by touching your subject on the 3-inch, 460,000-dot touchscreen. There's also an external EVF option, which attaches to the camera's hot shoe and offers a 1.44 million-dot display with 100-percent field of view. Movie buffs can capture 1080/60i HD video, with either MP4 or AVCHD compression. It goes without saying that the GX1 can shoot in RAW, and offers the complete gamut of advanced shooting modes. Of course the features don't stop there, so jump past the break for the full PR from Panasonic.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-hands-on/">Panasonic Lumix GX1 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-hands-on/#4586032"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/panagx1handson01eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-hands-on/#4586033"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/panagx1handson02eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-hands-on/#4586034"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/panagx1handson03eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-hands-on/#4586035"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/panagx1handson04eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-hands-on/#4586036"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/panagx1handson05eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-press-shots/">Panasonic Lumix GX1 press shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-press-shots/#4585841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/gx1kfronthh014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-press-shots/#4585843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/gx1kfronthps14042popup_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-press-shots/#4585844"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/gx1kfronthps14042_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-press-shots/#4585845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/gx1kfronthps45175_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gx1-press-shots/#4585846"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/gx1kfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-launches-lumix-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-we-go-han/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic launches Lumix DMC-GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera, we go hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/panasonic-launches-lumix-gx1-micro-four-thirds-camera-we-go-han/">Panasonic launches Lumix DMC-GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera, we go hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 Nov 2011 00:00:00 EST. Panasonic just launched a whole new series of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/panasonic-shrinks-its-micro-four-thirds-lenses-launches-x-serie/">Micro Four Thirds lenses</a> a couple of months ago, and it looks like it might soon also have a new Micro Four Thirds camera to take advantage of them. That photo you see above recently turned up on the <em>Mobile01</em> forums with a bundle of others, showing a hereto unannounced Panasonic Lumix GX1 MFT camera, which looks like it could be a true successor to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gf1">GF1</a> (as opposed to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gf2">GF2</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gf3">GF3</a> that moved in a less pro-minded direction). Rumored specs remain a bit light, but the camera apparently has a touchscreen display 'round back, which will likely see a fair bit of use unless you opt for an external EVF. It's also suggested that the camera will be launching soon -- on November 8th -- although that's obviously yet to be confirmed.<br />

Anyone who's used <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic/">Panasonic's</a> 14-42mm Micro Four Thirds zoom lens has probably noticed its relatively bulky design, especially when compared to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/olympus/">Olympus's</a> counterpart. Today, the company announced a new lens that offers the same zoom and f/3.5-5.6 aperture range in a housing less than half the size when closed, and still noticeably smaller when extended. The first of two optics in Panasonic's premium X-series -- the second is a 45-170mm f/4-5.6 zoom -- it's been billed as the world's smallest digital interchangeable power zoom lens, thanks to its internal zoom motor which lets you adjust the focal length using a side-mounted rocker -- the design is similar to the zoom toggle included with the company's new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/panasonic-lumix-fz150-builds-on-fz47-superzoom-adds-cmos-sensor/">FX150</a> superzoom. Priced at $399, it also includes a metal lens mount, instead of the plastic mount used with the existing $199 14-42mm lens.<br />
<br />
That second 45-170mm zoom ($449) can replace Panasonic's 45-200mm lens ($349), and while the size difference isn't as dramatic is its smaller X-series sibling, it's still noticeably smaller and lighter. Both lenses include optical image stabilization and feature nano surface coatings, designed to reduce ghosting and lens flare. The 14-42mm lens will ship in October in black and white (for use with silver bodies), and the 45-170mm zoom will ship in September. They'll <strike>only be compatible with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">GF-2</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/12/panasonic-gf3-reviewed-aging-12-mp-sensor-good-upgrade-for-cur/">GF-3</a>, and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/12/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3-ups-the-interchangeable-lens-ante-wit/">G3</a> at launch after downloading a firmware update -- Panasonic is leaving it up to Olympus to release supporting firmware for its own cameras</strike> be compatible with all G-series cameras at launch, without the need for a firmware update. For many photographers, in-camera WiFi may be an attractive feature before you leave the store, but confusing setup and limited functionality reduce its appeal once you actually go and try to use it. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Panasonic/">Panasonic</a> sets out to better take advantage of wireless connectivity with its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Lumix/">Lumix</a> FX90, adding Android and iPhone app support for transferring pictures and video directly to a mobile device, then uploading them to Lumix Club -- a cloud-based photo-sharing service -- and on to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. You can also share photos directly from the camera -- a dedicated WiFi button launches a menu prompting you to select a sharing service -- but app support brings the added benefit of your phone's data connection. Beyond those new wireless features, the FX90 includes a 12 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x, 24-120mm optical zoom lens, 3-inch touchscreen, and 1080i AVCHD video capture. The FX90 will ship this fall with pricing yet to be announced, but jump past the break for the full rundown from Panasonic in the meantime.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-fx90/">Panasonic Lumix FX90</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-fx90/#4376614"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/2011-08-26-dsc08199_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-fx90/#4376615"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/2011-08-26-dsc08202_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-fx90/#4376616"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/2011-08-26-dsc08206_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-fx90/#4376617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/2011-08-26-dsc08207_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-fx90/#4376618"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/2011-08-26-dsc08209_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/panasonic-lumix-fx90-point-and-shoot-packs-built-in-wifi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix FX90 point-and-shoot packs built-in WiFi, Android / iPhone app compatibility</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/panasonic-lumix-fx90-point-and-shoot-packs-built-in-wifi/">Panasonic Lumix FX90 point-and-shoot packs built-in WiFi, Android / iPhone app compatibility</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 01:00:00 EST. Last month, Panasonic's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/21/panasonic-reveals-lumix-fz47-superzoom-lets-you-shoot-1080i-vid/">Lumix FZ47</a> made some (rather subtle) waves with its full manual video mode, lettering you control aperture and shutter speed while capturing in 1080i. Now, the company just announced its higher-end FZ150, which replaces <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/13/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz100-reviewed-the-best-megazoom-shooter-yo/">last year's FZ10</a>0, adding 1080p AVCHD capture, a stereo mic with noise cancellation, and a 12 fps burst mode. Image-related improvements include a 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 25-600mm (24x) f/2.8-5.2 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Leica/">Leica</a> lens with nano surface coating, faster autofocus, a new Venus Engine FHD Pro processor, and sensitivity up to ISO 3200. The FZ150 retains its predecessor's 3-inch LCD and 0.2-inch EVF -- both also present on the FZ47. There's also a new side-lever control, letting you adjust zoom and focus with secondary levers positioned just to the left of the lens. Panasonic's latest superzoom cam will ship in late September with a $500 sticker price. When the Lumix <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF1/">GF1</a> was released less than a year after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a> first made its debut, it made a huge splash for its size, image quality, and versatility. Problem is, Panasonic set the bar very high for future GF-series models, and has sadly come up short with its latest update, positioning the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF3/">GF3</a> ($600 with 14-42mm kit lens) as an upgrade for compact camera owners while leaving enthusiasts longing for much more. <em>DPReview</em> took the GF3 to task, publishing a very comprehensive review while finding that while Panasonic's latest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ILC/">ILC</a> is a good fit for some photographers, more advanced users will likely be disappointed -- especially if they're expecting a rangefinder-like successor to the GF1. We spent a few hours with a pre-production GF3 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/panasonic-lumix-gf3-sample-photos-and-video/">earlier this summer</a>, and weren't blown away by its performance. When testing against the class-leading <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/sony-alpha-nex-c3-review/">Sony NEX-C3</a>, we found the Sony camera to offer faster focusing, better high-ISO performance, more accurate white balance, and better image quality overall. So unless you're really gunning to save 50 bucks on an ILC with a kit zoom (or you already have a collection of Micro Four Thirds lenses), the $650 C3 is definitely the better bet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/12/panasonic-gf3-reviewed-aging-12-mp-sensor-good-upgrade-for-cur/">Panasonic GF3 reviewed: aging 12 MP sensor, good upgrade for current compact users</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 12 Aug 2011 00:38:00 EST. We already gave you some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/13/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf3-official-12-1-mp-1080i-video-no-hot-s/">hands-on impressions</a> of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Panasonic/">Panasonic's</a> new Lumix GF3, but we just had a chance to shoot video and stills with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a> cam at an event in NYC, leaving with a couple hundred photos and a small handful of video clips. There's no question that this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF2/">GF2</a> successor was designed with interchangeable lens camera (ILC) newbies in mind, with no dedicated mode dial, a touchscreen display, and a boatload of auto settings, along with the usual spattering of effects modes. Panasonic chose a mock wedding scene as the centerpiece of its demo today, complete with bride, groom, and celebrity cake designer (a rather enthusiastic Ron Ben-Israel). Weddings mean colorful flowers, well-dressed subjects, and food -- but also dim lighting and chaos -- a perfect environment for showing off a camera's strengths shooting in low-light, assuming it can actually deliver. The GF3 probably won't be the camera of choice for our next celebration, however.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf3-image-samples/">Panasonic GF3 Image Samples</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf3-image-samples/#4261868"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/2011-06-29-p1000056_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf3-image-samples/#4261869"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/2011-06-29-p1000057_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf3-image-samples/#4261870"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/2011-06-29-p1000058_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf3-image-samples/#4261871"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/2011-06-29-p1000059_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf3-image-samples/#4261872"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/2011-06-29-p1000117_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />
First up was a balcony shot with bride and groom. As expected, the backlit scene presented an incredible challenge for the GF3, which had trouble focusing and compensating exposure to properly light our subjects -- even the professional wedding photographer on hand had difficulty focusing his GF3 at times. The position-adjustable flash allowed us to light our subjects at an angle, or to bounce light off the ceiling, which didn't seem to work well in the cavernous room. As we progressed through the morning, additional scenes highlighted new shortcomings. Jump past the break for a sample video and more impressions, or check out the gallery above for sample images -- the first four shots highlight different positions with the adjustable flash.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/panasonic-lumix-gf3-sample-photos-and-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix GF3: sample photos and video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/panasonic-lumix-gf3-sample-photos-and-video/">Panasonic Lumix GF3: sample photos and video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Jun 2011 20:35:00 EST. Last week, we caught a glimpse of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/06/panasonic-gf3-spied-by-micro-four-thirds-enthusiasts-in-youtube/">Lumix DMC-GF3</a>, a new addition to Panasonic's ever-growing family of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a> shooters. Turns out, the camera we spied in that YouTube video was legit: the company just made it official and yes, it's missing a hot shoe. Available in four colors with 12.1 megapixel resolution, it uses Panny's latest imaging processor, shoots 1080i AVCHD video, and has a 3-inch touchscreen, ISO range of 160 to 6400, and the usual array of intelligent Auto enhancements. Unlike the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">GF2</a> -- which isn't going anywhere, by the way -- it's designed with the greenest of novices in mind, which means it forgoes things experienced photogs might like, such as a hot shoe and viewfinder. This one has a mono, not stereo mic, and swaps in a simple scroll wheel on the back side. Panasonic also rejiggered the touch UI to make certain settings easier to find and added a miniature art filter -- already a staple on Olympus' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Olympus+Pen/">PEN</a> series. Oh, and as a beginner-friendly camera, it looks more like a point-and-shoot than a DSLR -- it's 15 percent lighter than the GF2, and 17 percent smaller.<br />
<br />
The GF3 will be available in July for $699 with a 14mm lens, to be followed in late August by a $599 kit that comes with a 14-42mm lens. In the meantime, head on past the break and check out our impressions after spending a few minutes with a not-final unit and a 14mm lens. We only got to play with it in a fluorescent conference room, alas, but hopefully our handful of test shots will give you a taste of what you can do with the depth of field should you spring for the higher-end of the two kits.<br />

So, Japan... want a new mobile device? How about 24? This grandiose announcement comes straight from NTT DoCoMo, which commonly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/09/ntt-docomo-launches-no-joke-28-phones-pegs-december-24th-for/">lays its cards on the table</a> for the delight of consumers. Among the selection you'll find eight new Gingerbread phones, six incredibly high-res shooters (ranging between 12.2 and 16.3 megapixels), eight waterproof handsets, and one embedded with Swarovski crystals. We're particularly thrilled to see the mighty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Galaxy S II</a>, 3D-capturing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/sharp-aquos-phone-sh-12c-has-3d-cameras-qhd-resolution-gingerb/">Aquos SH-12C</a>, 700-nit Optimus Bright (contrastingly-named but nearly identical to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/lg-optimus-black-review/">Optimus Black</a>), ultra-slim <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/nec-medias-wp-n-06c-announced-in-japan-shows-off-slimness-with/">MEDIAS WP N-06C</a>, and mobile payment-enabled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/06/from-leak-to-live-sony-ericsson-officially-reveals-xperia-acro/">Xperia Acro</a>. Oh, and don't forget about the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/15/ntt-docomos-fujitsu-loox-f-07c-goes-official-coming-with-windo/">LOOX F-07C </a>-- a multi-talented handset that's running Symbian and Windows 7 Home Premium -- while two LTE-enabled WiFi routers are sneaking into DoCoMo's party, too. That's a lot to absorb, so check out the source for individual release timeframes, which begin now and continue through August -- or just check out the PR after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/21/ntt-docomo-announces-24-new-mobile-wonders-yes-really-to-floo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NTT DoCoMo announces 24 new mobile wonders (yes, really) to flood its network</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/21/ntt-docomo-announces-24-new-mobile-wonders-yes-really-to-floo/">NTT DoCoMo announces 24 new mobile wonders (yes, really) to flood its network</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 21 May 2011 20:47:00 EST. Panasonic is rumored to be launching the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic+lumix/">Lumix</a> DMC-G3 tomorrow, the update to its Micro Four Thirds <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/panasonic-gets-official-with-lumix-dmc-g2-and-dmc-g10-micro-four/">G2</a>. According to 43 Rumors, the new cam will be 25 percent smaller than its predecessor, and will include a 15.8 megapixel sensor and a 3-inch articulating LCD. Overall, the camera appears to have a very similar form factor to the G2, but scraps the left dial, presumably shifting those controls to the touch-enabled display. The site lists the launch rumor at its highest accuracy level (think DHS threat levels, but for camera rumors), so they're pretty sure we'll have all the details come tomorrow morning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3-leaked-expected-to-launch-tomorrow/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 leaked, expected to launch tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 11 May 2011 15:41:00 EST. In case you're still wondering if Panasonic's mirrorless <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/panasonic-lumix-gh2-officially-debuts-16mp-1080p-movie-mode/">Lumix GH2</a> is worth your $900, we've rounded up a handful of reviews to provide a pointer for your next big purchase. While most reviewers agree that this Micro Four Thirds camera appears to be very similar to its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gh1">predecessor</a>, they universally praise the subtly improved ergonomics, speedy liveview autofocusing, and refined image quality, especially with its 1080p AVCHD video recording (although <em>Digital Camera Resource Page</em> did notice some artifacting in its clips). Noise is also a non-issue up to about ISO 800 or 1600, though it's apparent that the 16 megapixel stills are comparatively dull and, like those from many other MFTs, aren't quite on par with DSLRs -- expect plenty of manual processing work here, as demoed by the good folks over at <em>Digital Photography Review</em>. All in all, the GH2 is a great kit for high quality video capturing, bundled with a pretty good still performance that requires some extra TLC afterwards -- kinda ironic in a way, but hey, this isn't a problem for lovers of video bokeh. Head over to the links below for some in-depth analysis and walk-through before you leave a small dent on your bank account.<br />

Our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/25/live-from-the-engadget-reader-meetup-in-san-francisco/">reader meetup</a> this past Friday in San Francisco was infiltrated by a somewhat unusual assailant, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">Panasonic's GF2</a> Micro Four Thirds shooter. Sporting a new, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/05/panasonic-lumix-gf2-vs-gf1-fight/">significantly thinner</a>, pancake lens primed at 14mm with a maximum F2.5 aperture, this eminently portable camera managed to sneak into the building while concealed inside one of our editors' jacket pockets. As we've said before, the major difference between the GF2 and the GF1 for us is that the new model really feels like a compact point-and-shoot, to the point of making us forget that it has a DSLR-sized sensor within it. We've put together the following galleries, which were mostly shot in the fully automatic mode, to give you a taste of how Panasonic's latest handles the challenges of a poorly lit nighttime scene, on the one hand, and a gorgeous sunny day, on the other. Enjoy!<br />

We're drowning in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/interchangeablelens/">interchangeable lens</a> options, but that's far from being a bad thing. For those that finally caved and picked up Panasonic's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/19/panasonic-lumix-gf2-reviewed-smaller-simpler-and-arguably-bet/">Lumix DFC-GF2</a>, we're interested to see how you'd change things if given that golden opportunity. Today is the day that budget-minded Panasonic lovers have been waiting for, when the company finally announces what it's going to charge domestically for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic,gf2">Lumix GF2</a> and a suite of other models it's announced in the past months. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/microfourthirds">Micro Four Thirds</a> interchangeable lens GF2 will ship this month for an MSRP of $499.95, body alone. If you want the new 14 - 42mm GF2K lens you'll be looking at $599.95, the 14mm prime GF2C lens will cost $699.95, while the 12.5mm/F12 Lumix G, which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/panasonic-lumix-gh2-officially-debuts-16mp-1080p-movie-mode/">captures pictures in 3D</a>, is a relative bargain at $259.95. Pansonic also unleashed a flurry of MSRPs for other Lumix compact models <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/panasonic-debuts-lumix-fp5-fp7-fh5-and-fh2-ultraslim-compact-c/">unveiled at CES</a>, with the FP5 and FP7 costing $200 and $230 respectively, the FH2 and FH5 priced at $140 and $150. More details and numbers in the pair of PR after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/01/panasonic-announces-lumix-gf2-pricing-and-availability-plenty-o/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic announces Lumix GF2 pricing and availability, plenty of other models too</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/01/panasonic-announces-lumix-gf2-pricing-and-availability-plenty-o/">Panasonic announces Lumix GF2 pricing and availability, plenty of other models too</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 01 Feb 2011 10:04:00 EST. Thought Panasonic was done unleashing Lumix point-and-shoots for a bit? Us too, but apparently the compact cam fun isn't over yet. Yep, in addition to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/lumix,ces2011">eight</a> it released earlier this month at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ces2011">CES</a>, the company has four new ones for your eyes only tonight. Naturally, we've got all the important details and few glossy shots below. Oh, and if that's not enough for ya, you can always hit the break for the full press releases. <br />
<ul>
    <li>Up first are two new powerful shooters joining the ZS family: the DMC-ZS10 and DMC-ZS8. Like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/27/panasonic-reveals-new-lumix-bounty-prior-to-pma/">previous ZS cams</a>, the 14.1 megapixel ZS10 has a 24mm ultra-wide-angle and 16x optical zoom Leica lens, records 1080p video, and sports a three-inch touch LCD. The specs certainly impress, but Panny's also hoping you take its 3D Photo mode seriously -- the setting can produce a "realistic 3D photo" by taking 20 consecutive shots and overlaying the best two. Naturally, the images can be viewed on any of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic,3dtv">Viera 3DTVs</a>. The ZS8 sports most of the same specs, but cuts it down to just 720p recording. No word on the pricing on these two, but they should be hitting shelves in March.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Like its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/01/panasonic-lumix-fx75-takes-evolutionary-step-forward/">FX75 brother</a>, the DMC-FX78 is all about Full HD. Packing a Leica 24mm wide-angle lens, the 12.1 megapixel FX78 can record full 1920 x 1080-resolution video in AVCHD. But beyond the recording specs, Panasonic has improved its 3.5-inch Smart Touchscreen, which basically allows you to control all the cam's functions -- autofocus, zooming, playback, etc. -- with, well you know, just a touch. Like the ZS cams, the FX includes the 3D Photo mode. As you may have guessed, no pricing yet on this bad boy, but it <em>will</em> come in black, gold, and white in March.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
    <li>Last but not least is the rugged TS3. Like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/07/panasonics-waterproof-lumix-dmc-ts1-unboxing/">DMC-TS1</a>, the 12.1 megapixel shooter is completely waterproof, not to mention shockproof, freezeproof, and dustproof. Yep, it's as proofed as they come, and throw in the fact that it packs a compass, altimeter, and barometer and you pretty much can swap this thing out for a ton of other gear. As an actual camera, the TS3 doesn't sound too shabby either -- it can record 1080p video, packs a 3D mode, and boasts a 28mm wide-angle Leica lens. Nope, no pricing, but it'll join the others in March.</li>

More <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Lumix/">Lumix</a> goodness? You betcha. Hot on the heels of Panasonic's CES <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/panasonic-debuts-lumix-fp5-fp7-fh5-and-fh2-ultraslim-compact-c/">unveiling</a> of the FP5, FP7, FH5 and FH2 ultraslim compact camera comes this: even <i>more</i> Lumix compacts. Per usual, we'll tell you exactly what you need to know below, and those hungry for more can peek the full releases after the break.
<ul>
    <li>Up first we have two new folks joining the S series: the DMC-S3 and DMC-S1. Both of these are designed for up-and-comers looking for ease of use, with the S3 having a 14.1 megapixel sensor and the S1 dipping to a 12.1 megapixel sensor. Both of 'em tout a 720p movie mode, refreshed designs and a 4x optical zoom lens. Panny admits that they're both "entry-level," though you'll still find optical image stabilization, face detection, an intelligent scene selector and the Venus Engine VI image processor. There's a 2.7-inch LCD on the rear of each unit, and while the S3 will ship in blue, red, black and violet, the S1 will arrive in black, gold, blue, pink and silver. Mum's the word on a price and release date, sadly.</li>
    <li>The DMC-FH27 and DMC-FH25 point-and-shoots are both aimed at the fashionistas in the crowd, with the pair touting a 16.1 megapixel sensor, 8x optical zoom lens and a 720p movie mode. There's also an advanced Intelligent Auto mode for those who detest fiddling with settings, and the Venus Engine VI image processor promises to speed up just about everything dealing with operation. Face detection, optical image stabilization and an intelligent scene selector are all present, though the FH27's 3-inch rear LCD one-ups the 2.7-inch panel that's on the FH25. Per usual, Panny's keeping its trap shut when it comes to a price and release date.</li>
</ul>

It ain't <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Photokina/">Photokina</a>, and it ain't <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/PMA/">PMA</a>, but darn if the cameras aren't rolling out left and right here at the 2011 edition of CES. This evening, it's Panasonic's turn, and we've got four new Lumix point-and-shoots to discuss in more detail below:
<ul>
    <li>For starters, we've got a pair of newcomers to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/panasonics-ces-lumix-sextet-leaked-fp-and-fh-models-galore/">Lumix FH series</a>, the FH5 and FH2. Both of these are sporting sleek, svelte exteriors, with the DMC-FH5 nabbing a 16 megapixel sensor and the DMC-FH2 stepping down to 14 megapixels. Both of 'em feature a newly-developed retractable 28mm wide-angle lens, a 4x optical zoom and a 720p movie mode. You'll also find a newly-incorporated Venue Engine VI, which hastens startup and overall reaction times. Mega optical image stabilization, face detection and an intelligent scene selector are all included, as is the Lumix Image Uploader to get your shots up onto the web, STAT. Pricing on this duo is expected at a later date, though we are told that the FH5 will ship in silver, violet, black and gold, while the FH2 dons black, red, pink and blue outfits.</li>
    <li>Looking for something with a bit more pizazz? The ultrathin <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/panasonics-ces-lumix-sextet-leaked-fp-and-fh-models-galore/">FP series</a> is growing by two today as well, with the 16.1 megapixel DMC-FP7 and 14.1 megapixel DMC-FP5 offering up a sexy exterior, 4x optical zoom and a 720p movie mode. The FP7 goes with a mirror-like finish, while the FP5 sticks with matte. The FP7 (shown above) also has a nicer-than-average rear, with a 3.5-inch LCD; the FP5 steps it down ever-so-slightly to a 3.0-incher. Both models include Smart Touch Screens that enable shooters to tweak lots of settings within hitting a single physical button, and the FP7 goes one step further by offering one-touch re-touching. The duo also incorporates Panny's Venus Engine VI, mega optical image stabilization, face detection, an intelligent scene selector and a dedicated iA button. Pricing remains a mystery for these as well, but you can decide between red, blue and black on the FP7 or black, pink, silver and blue on the FP5.</li>
</ul>

It's not exactly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/panasonic-lumix-gh2-officially-debuts-16mp-1080p-movie-mode/">November</a>, but those who pre-ordered early may still end up with a Lumix GH2 beneath their tree. The highly-anticipated GH1 followup -- which was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/panasonic-lumix-gh2-officially-debuts-16mp-1080p-movie-mode/">introduced</a> back at Photokina -- has officially begun to ship to end users in the US of A. The official order page shows a one to two week wait, but we've confirmed with Panny itself (as well as tipster Nate, the proud owner of the one above) that units are indeed trickling out as we speak. For those in need of a refresher, this Micro Four Thirds shooter packs a 16 megapixel sensor, 1080p movie mode, SDXC support and an ISO range from 160 to 12,800. Feel free to take a peek back at our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/">hands-on from Germany</a>, and make sure you cancel those holiday plans STAT -- wouldn't want this sitting on your doorstep for a solid week, now would you? <br />

As far as we know, the western hemisphere should still have the mirrorless <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">GF2</a> from Panasonic penciled in on its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-now-official-12-1mp-full-hd-movie-mode/">January 2011</a> must-own list, but Japan is (predictably) getting the party started a little early. Panny has shot out a brief statement this morning to say that its home nation will receive the GF2 -- alternately attired in red, white or black -- on the 3rd of December. That's a good couple of weeks before we expected to even have pricing for North America and Europe, leaving the rest of us to just pout and stare at the calendar with disdain. And if pricing is what you need, <em>Impress</em> has some of its usually deadly accurate estimates to offer you, with the GF2 body set to cost &yen;60,000 (about $720) by itself, &yen;80,000 with the F2.5 14mm pancake kit lens, or &yen;90,000 if paired with the 14-42mm glass. We'd advise not taking straight currency conversions as indicators of pricing anywhere outside Japan, however, due to the atypically high value of the yen at the moment. Wistful sighs, on the other hand, are free everywhere.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/18/panasonic-gf2-shipping-december-3rd-in-japan-turning-gringos-gr/">Panasonic GF2 shipping December 3rd in Japan, turning gringos green with envy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 18 Nov 2010 02:33:00 EST. If yesterday's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">preview</a> of the GF2 wasn't enough for you, here's a little more eye candy to feast upon. We paired up Panasonic's all-new Micro Four Thirds shooter with the GF1 that preceded it and collected a nice little gallery for your perusal below. The major difference between the two is in their dimensions -- the GF2 feels a lot closer to your typical compact camera -- though there are plenty of smaller modifications as well, such as the refashioned grip on the camera's right side, the replacement of the jog dial up top with a stereo mic array, and the introduction of a luminous iA button for switching on the intelligent auto mode. The back of the GF2 is also quite a bit tidier, which has been achieved mostly by eliminating some buttons in favor of the touchscreen interface. Check it all out below or jump past the break for some video action.<br />

At first glance, sitting all on its lonesome like that, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-now-official-12-1mp-full-hd-movie-mode/">GF2</a> might forgivably be perceived as just another mundanely incremental upgrade on what was already a lauded predecessor in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/gf1">Lumix GF1</a>. But, for once, our pessimism was not borne out by the facts -- far from it. With the GF2, Panasonic has somehow managed to shrink its smallest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/microfourthirds">Micro Four Thirds</a> shooter even further, by a reported 19 percent, and the difference in handling is tangible. The Japanese giant has also lightened the load by seven percent, thrown in a new touchscreen-centric UI, and, predictably, upped the video ante to 720/60p or 1080/60i recording in AVCHD format. Join us after the break to see what we thought of this delicious new recipe for pseudo-pocketable large-sensor shooting.<br />
<br />
<em>Please note: Panasonic has not yet finalized the GF2's firmware, meaning that the sample images and video below may not necessarily be indicative of the quality you'll get from the final product.</em><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-hands-on-0/">Panasonic GF2 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-hands-on-0/#3541991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/engzgf2110480001-1288899545_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-hands-on-0/#3541992"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/engzgf2110480002-1288899547_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-hands-on-0/#3542008"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/engzgf2110480016-1288899571_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-hands-on-0/#3542036"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/engzgf2110480042-1288899622_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-hands-on-0/#3541995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/engzgf2110480005-1288899552_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-sample-images/">Panasonic GF2 sample images</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-sample-images/#3542244"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/enggf2samp110450_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-sample-images/#3542156"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/enggf2samp110409_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-sample-images/#3542212"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/enggf2samp110426_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-sample-images/#3542226"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/enggf2samp110437_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-gf2-sample-images/#3542149"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/enggf2samp110405_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix GF2 preview</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-gf2-preview/">Panasonic Lumix GF2 preview</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Nov 2010 17:43:00 EST. At long last, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/03/panasonics-lumix-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera-spotted-on-billbo/">Lumix DMC-GF2</a>. Hitting the scene just a few weeks after the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/">GH2</a>, this here Micro Four Thirds rig is Panasonic's smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera, and it's packin' quite the specs list. From the top, you're looking at a 12.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor, compatibility with the company's own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/27/panasonic-will-offer-interchangable-3d-lens-for-micro-four-third/">3D interchangeable lens</a> (the LUMIX G 12.5mm / F12) and an enclosure that's seven percent lighter (not to mention 19 percent smaller) than the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GF1/">GF1</a>. You'll also find a three-inch touchpanel on the rear, contrast AF system, a freshly designed Touch Q user interface, internal dust reduction system and the ability to record video at 1920 x 1080/60i or 1280 x 720/60p in AVCHD. Better still, lower resolution options are available with Motion JPEG recording, and the 23-area focusing system shouldn't have a difficult time nailing your subject. We should point out that the ISO only ranges from 100 to 6400, but the included hot shoe accessory definitely allows for a flash. Of course, there's no optical viewfinder here, but hey, you can't have it all when you're looking to save space. The GF2 will ship in January with three color choices (silver, red and black) and two bundle options: a 14mm F2.5 pancake kit and a 14-42mm zoom lens kit. Unfortunately for you, pricing won't be announced until mid-to-late December. Bah, humbug! <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 Micro Four Thirds camera</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera/#3537848"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/gf2wfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera/#3537849"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/gf2wback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera/#3537850"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/gf2stop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera/#3537851"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/gf2sslant1442_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera/#3537852"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/11/gf2sfrontbody_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-now-official-12-1mp-full-hd-movie-mode/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 now official: 12.1MP, Full HD movie mode</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/04/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf2-now-official-12-1mp-full-hd-movie-mode/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 now official: 12.1MP, Full HD movie mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Nov 2010 01:00:00 EST. Where there's smoke, right? Just days after hearing that Panasonic's newest Micro Four Thirds camera was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/panasonic-gf2-rumored-to-be-announced-this-week-released-early/">on the way</a> later this week, along comes this -- an event poster in Paris that leaves little doubt about what's to come. As the story goes, this shot was taken over in France, and it's detailing an event that'll actually take place tomorrow. If we had to guess, we'd say the world's smallest mirrorless camera kit will be officially unveiled within the next 24 hours. We mean, wouldn't you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/03/panasonics-lumix-gf2-micro-four-thirds-camera-spotted-on-billbo/">Panasonic's Lumix GF2 Micro Four Thirds camera spotted on billboard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Nov 2010 08:57:00 EST. Right on schedule, Panasonic's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/01/panasonic-teases-a-13-2mp-lumix-phone-for-october-5-unveiling/">13.2 megapixel Lumix Phone</a> made its physical debut buried within NTT DoCoMo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ceatec2010">CEATEC</a> booth. And by buried, we mean locked behind plexiglass and out of reach of our own hands. That didn't stop the light-capturing mechanics of our cameras, however. We're not sure where the "folding mechanism" mentioned in the press release comes from, but it looks to be a slider phone that keeps a numpad / text entry box out of view. Color options include black, pink, blue, and gold (though frankly, it looked more silver to us). Alas, that also means no chance to provide sample shots from the devices itself, but we do have a smattering of product photos from which you might derive glee -- and that aforementioned video after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on/">Panasonic Lumix Phone eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on/#3436497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/panasonic-lumix-phone-ceatec-dsc0087-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on/#3436498"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/panasonic-lumix-phone-ceatec-dsc0088-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on/#3436499"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/panasonic-lumix-phone-ceatec-dsc0089-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on/#3436500"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/panasonic-lumix-phone-ceatec-dsc0090-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on/#3436501"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/panasonic-lumix-phone-ceatec-dsc0093-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/05/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix Phone eyes-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/05/panasonic-lumix-phone-eyes-on-video/">Panasonic Lumix Phone eyes-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Oct 2010 01:22:00 EST. Looks like we'll soon have another heavyweight to throw into the renewed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/30/nokia-n8-vs-iphone-4-camera-showdown/">cameraphone wars</a>, as Panasonic has put up a teaser site for its first <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/lumix">Lumix</a>-branded phone. Lumix is of course Panasonic's camera label, which counts among its luminary membership the likes of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/gf1">GF1</a> and the newly refreshed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/06/lumix-dmc-lx5-review-roundup-great-hardware-for-a-not-so-great/">LX5</a>. The new phone shooter promises to beat both in terms of pure resolution with its 13.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, which is accompanied by a 3.3-inch LCD atop a 146-gram body. Much like Nokia's N8 and its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia-n8-preview/#3074129">protruding sensor compartment</a>, this Lumix handset will have to make room for its expanded imaging equipment, which is why it'll offer a comparatively chubby 17.7mm thickness, to go along with a 116mm height and 52mm width. We'll know more next week when CEATEC 2010 gets rolling over in Tokyo.<br />
<br />
[Thanks, Anton]<br />
<br />
P.S. -- It's also noteworthy that Panasonic's press release indicates a folding mechanism for this handset, which, given current trends in Japan, makes it most likely to be a clamshell device. It's also got some DLNA voodoo inside and is coming out by the end of this fiscal year (April 2011).<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/01/panasonic-teases-a-13-2mp-lumix-phone-for-october-5-unveiling/">Panasonic teases a 13.2MP 'Lumix phone' for October 5 unveiling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 01 Oct 2010 05:38:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">We've already gotten our hands on Lensbaby's basic <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/15/lensbaby-composer-fisheye-and-soft-focus-review-creativity-abo/">Composer lens</a>, but the company has now gone and expanded its bag of tricks even further with its new Composer with Tilt Transformer kit. The key bit there is the Tilt Transformer (also available separately), which can also accommodate any Nikon mount lens and tilt it up to twice the amount of standard <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tilt-shift">tilt-shift</a> lenses. Have a Panasonic Lumix G Micro System or Olympus PEN Micro Four Thirds camera? Then you can get the kit now for $350 or just the Tilt Transformer for $250 -- Sony NEX camera users will have to wait until October 28th to get in on the act. Full press release is after the break, and our hands-on from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Photokina/">Photokina</a> show floor is just below. Enjoy. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lensbaby-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro-four-thirds-sony-nex-cameras-hands-on/">Lensbaby Tilt Transformer kit for Micro Four Thirds, Sony NEX cameras hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lensbaby-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro-four-thirds-sony-nex-cameras-hands-on/#3393808"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/lensbaby-mft-adapter-photokina-20101568_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lensbaby-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro-four-thirds-sony-nex-cameras-hands-on/#3393807"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/lensbaby-mft-adapter-photokina-20101569_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lensbaby-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro-four-thirds-sony-nex-cameras-hands-on/#3393806"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/lensbaby-mft-adapter-photokina-20101571_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lensbaby-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro-four-thirds-sony-nex-cameras-hands-on/#3393805"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/lensbaby-mft-adapter-photokina-20101572_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lensbaby-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro-four-thirds-sony-nex-cameras-hands-on/#3393804"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/lensbaby-mft-adapter-photokina-20101573_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/23/lensbaby-rolls-out-composer-with-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lensbaby rolls out Composer with Tilt Transformer kit for Micro Four Thirds, Sony NEX cameras (hands-on)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/23/lensbaby-rolls-out-composer-with-tilt-transformer-kit-for-micro/">Lensbaby rolls out Composer with Tilt Transformer kit for Micro Four Thirds, Sony NEX cameras (hands-on)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 23 Sep 2010 08:23:00 EST. It's certainly the segment getting the most focus here at this year's Photokina, and with Panasonic cranking out yet another, we don't see any signs of it slowing down. The newfangled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/panasonic-lumix-gh2-officially-debuts-16mp-1080p-movie-mode/">Lumix DMC-GH2</a> made its official debut yesterday, bringing with it an impressive list of specifications and compatibility with an oh-so-curious 3D lens that we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive/">peeked in prototype form back at IFA</a>. When speaking to booth representatives here in Cologne, we learned that said lens will actually save both a 3D and 2D version of each picture you take, making it a far more viable option for someone who is just looking to test the 3D waters without giving up entirely on 2D. The camera itself felt sufficiently light, but it doesn't seem much more compact than the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GH1/">GH1</a> before it. And at $900, we've got our hearts set on a bona fide DSLR -- sorry, but it's true. Anywho, hit the gallery below if you're itching for a closer look at your maybe-possibly-probably next shooter (along with glimpses at the trio of lenses that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/21/panasonic-lumix-gh2-officially-debuts-16mp-1080p-movie-mode/">were also revealed</a> here at the show).<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/">Panasonic Lumix GH2 and 3D interchangeable lens hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/#3390587"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-gh2-photokina-20101255_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/#3390586"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-gh2-photokina-20101257_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/#3390585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-gh2-photokina-20101258_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/#3390583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-gh2-photokina-20101259_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/#3390582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-gh2-photokina-20101260_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/">Panasonic Lumix GH2 and 3D interchangeable lens hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 12:59:00 EST. Well, would you look at that? The rumor mill <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/18/panasonic-gh2-expected-to-have-16-megapixel-sensor-maybe-even-1/">nailed it</a> once more, and we couldn't be happier about it. Here at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Photokina/">Photokina</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Panasonic/">Panasonic</a> just removed the veil from its glistening Lumix GH2, a followup camera that looks to be worth every penny it'll cost you to upgrade. There's a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card slot, Micro Four Thirds mount, 23 points of auto focus tracking, face detection and so, so much more. Like what, you ask? We're tucked away in Leica's high-brow design preview event here in K&ouml;ln, and while it appears that the vast majority of those in attendance showed just to boast about their suit, we're strictly here for the gear. That being said, let us be the first to formally introduce you to the now-official D-Lux 5 rangefinder. Or, <em>sort of</em> official D-Lux 5. Unlike the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/20/leica-introduces-m9-titanium-limited-to-just-500-lucious-piec/">M9 'Titanium'</a> -- which the company spent a solid two hours boasting about -- the D-Lux 5 (a rebranded / tweaked <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/06/lumix-dmc-lx5-review-roundup-great-hardware-for-a-not-so-great/">LX5</a>?) has been given nothing but a passing glance of affirmation, though we're anticipating a more formal release with specifications and the like tomorrow. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Leica/">Leica</a> aficionados have likely been hearing whispers of this beaut for the past dozen months, but at long last, the unicorn has apparently transformed into a Gypsy Vanner. Though, still a mysterious one.<br />
<br />
In case that's not exactly your cup of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/31/leica-m9-hands-on-or-the-tao-of-leica/">million-dollar tea</a>, it appears that Panasonic's DMC-FZ100 -- deemed the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/13/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz100-reviewed-the-best-megazoom-shooter-yo/">world's best megazoom</a> by critics back in August -- has been reborn as a Leica, though the shell doesn't appear to have changed at all. Of course, we've seen Leica pull this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/20/leica-v-lux-20-compact-with-12x-superzoom-is-brand-extortion/">rebranding trick before</a>, but we're <em>sure</em> the so-called V-Lux 2M is far superior in some way that we've yet to be informed about. Rounding out the round of mystique is the gently refashioned X1, which was seen sporting a far more luxurious casing compared to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/leica-x1-review-digs-deep-cant-find-value/">the original</a>. Feel free to drown yourself in the images below, and keep it locked right here for more as we hear it. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-d-lux-5-behind-glass-at-photokina-2010/">Leica D-Lux 5 behind glass at Photokina 2010</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-d-lux-5-behind-glass-at-photokina-2010/#3383331"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-d-lux-5-photokina-20100782_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-d-lux-5-behind-glass-at-photokina-2010/#3383332"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-d-lux-5-photokina-20100781_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-d-lux-5-behind-glass-at-photokina-2010/#3383334"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-d-lux-5-photokina-20100779_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-d-lux-5-behind-glass-at-photokina-2010/#3383336"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-d-lux-5-photokina-20100778_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leica-d-lux-5-behind-glass-at-photokina-2010/#3383337"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-d-lux-5-photokina-20100777_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-redesigned-x1-on-display-at-photokina-2010/">Leica's redesigned X1 on display at Photokina 2010</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-redesigned-x1-on-display-at-photokina-2010/#3383355"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-new-x1-compact-photokina-20100901_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-redesigned-x1-on-display-at-photokina-2010/#3383356"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-new-x1-compact-photokina-20100900_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-redesigned-x1-on-display-at-photokina-2010/#3383357"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-new-x1-compact-photokina-20100899_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-redesigned-x1-on-display-at-photokina-2010/#3383358"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-new-x1-compact-photokina-20100898_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-redesigned-x1-on-display-at-photokina-2010/#3383359"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-new-x1-compact-photokina-20100897_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-v-lux-2m-shown-at-photokina-2010/">Leica's V-Lux 2M shown at Photokina 2010</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-v-lux-2m-shown-at-photokina-2010/#3383395"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-fz100-rebrand-photokina-20100767-1285018205_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-v-lux-2m-shown-at-photokina-2010/#3383396"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-fz100-rebrand-photokina-20100766-1285018206_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-v-lux-2m-shown-at-photokina-2010/#3383397"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-fz100-rebrand-photokina-20100765-1285018211_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-v-lux-2m-shown-at-photokina-2010/#3383398"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-fz100-rebrand-photokina-20100764-1285018212_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/leicas-v-lux-2m-shown-at-photokina-2010/#3383399"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/leica-fz100-rebrand-photokina-20100763-1285018213_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/20/leica-quietly-showcases-d-lux-5-redesigned-x1-and-rebranded-dmc/">Leica quietly showcases D-Lux 5, redesigned X1 and rebranded DMC-FZ100</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 20 Sep 2010 17:51:00 EST.
