Until now, at least. Enter the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/08/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/">Cyborg M.M.O. 7,</a> the outfit's latest addition to its aggressively styled line of gaming mice, minus the RAT moniker. Despite shedding the name of its predecessors, Mad Catz' latest point-and-clicker is as much of a RAT as the mice that came before it, but distinguishes itself with more buttons, more features <em>and</em> more color. Read on to see what's new, what's different and what should have stayed the same.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/">Mad Catz Cyborg M.M.O. 7 gaming mouse hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/#4796129"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/img8020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/#4796128"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/img8025_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/#4796127"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/img8029_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/#4796126"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/img8034_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/#4796125"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/img8037_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/06/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz Cyborg M.M.O. 7 gaming mouse hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/06/mad-catz-cyborg-m-m-o-7-gaming-mouse-hands-on/">Mad Catz Cyborg M.M.O. 7 gaming mouse hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 06 Feb 2012 10:00:00 EST. These superstars of simulated battle make the rounds in various tournaments, including, most notably, Major League Gaming Pro Circuit championships. Now those digital athletes, as well as the masses of seasoned "amateurs," can compete with professional (or at least officially licensed) equipment -- we're talking about gear like Mad Catz' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/23/mad-catz-major-league-gaming-controllers-offer-swappable-thumbst/">Major League Gaming Pro Circuit Controller</a> for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This Major League gamepad promises to give competitive gamers a professional, customizable edge over their opponents with swappable "ProModule" thumbsticks and d-pads -- invoking the customizable spirit of Mad Catz' transforming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/21/exclusive-mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-review/">RAT mouse.</a> We gave the PlayStation 3 edition a chance to make its rodent cousin proud. Well, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MadCatz/">Mad Catz</a> are more than happy to oblige with its Cyborg F.R.E.Q 5 Pro Gaming Headset, which consists of a metal headband and two cans powered by 50mm neodymium drivers. Naturally, there's a mic in tow, and it's styled to match the rest of Mad Catz's Cyborg family. Check the family colors at the source, but we're still waiting to hear on pricing and release dates.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/mad-catz-readies-latest-gaming-headset-f-r-e-q-5-makes-you-loo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz readies latest gaming headset: F.R.E.Q 5 makes you look a bit like one</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/mad-catz-readies-latest-gaming-headset-f-r-e-q-5-makes-you-loo/">Mad Catz readies latest gaming headset: F.R.E.Q 5 makes you look a bit like one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 10:56:00 EST. With these gamer cans ready to bask in their full Xbox-certified glory in stores this week, we took the chance to hit up Tritton's stand here at CES to try on its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/mad-catz-tritton-ship-5-8-ghz-wireless-headset-for-xbox-360-d/">Primer</a>. Despite the call-center employee appearance [above], the earphones are relatively comfortable, although the head band seemed a bit tight. While the Primer offers a 33 foot reception radius, we found its limits of receiving audio were closer to 40 feet. The mic arm is flexible, with the adjustable headband affording a certain degree of customization. Despite the $100 price tag, Tritton fans looking for something more subtle than <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/mad-catz-gears-up-for-gears-of-war-with-branded-audio-gear-ge/">recent</a> efforts will be happy -- just don't walk around a conference hall kitted out in it.<br /><BR>

No, that isn't some robotic fingernail -- it's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MadCatz/"><span class="mceItemHidden"><span class="hiddenSpellError">MadCatz</span></span></a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tritton"><span class="mceItemHidden"><span class="hiddenSpellError">Tritton's</span></span></a> latest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bluetooth/">Bluetooth</a><span class="mceItemHidden"> headset, which has just made its way through the FCC's underground bunker. Geared for audio chat on the PS3, the "Wireless Headset featuring Bluetooth technology," as it's not-so-creatively dubbed, is the apparent successor to the company's late AX Micro. A quick perusal of its manual confirms that aside from the science <span class="hiddenSpellError">fiction-eqsue</span> looks, the unit is essentially an average Bluetooth earpiece. Over the past few months, <span class="hiddenSpellError">Tritton's</span> been heavily catering to the Xbox 360 crowd with a smattering of </span><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/mad-catz-co-branded-xbox-360-tritton-headsets-eyes-on-ears-o/">officially licensed gaming headsets</a><span class="mceItemHidden">, so it's a pleasant surprise to see that Blu-ray spinning gamers are still getting a some love. At a glance, it's nearly identical to the Devastator, offering stereo sound via a wired connection, but that 30 dollar price decrease comes with a trimmed-down feature set -- there's no Selective Voice Monitoring functionality, it packs smaller 40mm drivers (from 50mm), its in-line remote packs volume rollers in place of buttons and there's no mention of PMP-compatibility. Basically, the Trigger's apparently aimed squarely at uping your in-game audio without <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/30/turtle-beach-ear-force-px5-review/">breaking the bank</a> -- not to mention that it's especially tempting if you've just splurged on the latest <em>Modern Warfare</em> and <em>Battlefield</em> titles. As usual, you'll find more info at the source link below and the full press release after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/10/trittons-50-trigger-headset-now-shipping-lets-budget-minded-f/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tritton's $50 Trigger headset now shipping, lets budget-minded FPS players keep their wallets fat</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/10/trittons-50-trigger-headset-now-shipping-lets-budget-minded-f/">Tritton's $50 Trigger headset now shipping, lets budget-minded FPS players keep their wallets fat</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Nov 2011 15:51:00 EST. Remember that intense <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/11/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-albino-first-hands-on/">Albino Rat Mouse</a> from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mad+Catz/">Mad Catz</a> that we took for a spin and ripped apart way back in August? Meet its cousin, the Cyborg M.M.O.7. As you've likely already gathered, this rather intense gaming peripheral is all about the MMO world, featuring a staggering 78 definable commands thanks to 13 programmable buttons, a two-position MMO shift button and a three-position MMO mode switch. It's also one size fits all, thanks to adjustable palm and thumb rests. <em>World of Warcraft</em> fans will likely find a lot to like in the ability to assign spells to the mouse's buttons by dragging and dropping. The Cyborg M.M.O.7 is coming next month -- no word on pricing just yet.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/">Mad Catz goes massively multiplayer with Cyborg M.M.O.7</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/#4595184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/mad-catz-mmodsc00701hands-800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/#4595185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/mad-catz-mmodsc00704hands-800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/#4595186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/mad-catz-mmodsc00708hands-800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/#4595187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/mad-catz-mmodsc00711hands-800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/#4595188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/mad-catz-mmodsc00712hands-800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/08/mad-catz-goes-massively-multiplayer-with-cyborg-m-m-o-7/">Mad Catz goes massively multiplayer with Cyborg M.M.O.7</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 08 Nov 2011 18:49:00 EST. If you're a fan of arcade-style fighting games, you're surely hip to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mad+catz">MadCatz's</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/23/mad-catz-major-league-gaming-controllers-offer-swappable-thumbst/?ref=nf">FightStick Tournament Edition</a> for PS3 and Xbox 360. As it's done with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/mad-catz-street-fighter-iv-joysticks-surface-for-ps3/"><em>Street Fighter</em></a> in the past, the company is back with another variation of the arcade stick, this time officially themed for the upcoming <em>Soul Calibur V</em>. Launching near the game in January 2012, the Soul Calibur V Arcade FightStick Soul Edition features the usual masher-friendly eight button with joystick layout, but sports a casing endowed with visuals inspired by the game -- and an extremely unfortunate mix of hues. The crazy Cat hasn't announced a price yet, but considering these have gone for about $150 in the past, we'd imagine this one won't be too far off. Full details in the press release after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/madcatz-proves-its-soul-still-burns-with-soul-calibur-v-arcade-f/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>MadCatz proves its soul still burns with Soul Calibur V Arcade FightStick Soul Edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/madcatz-proves-its-soul-still-burns-with-soul-calibur-v-arcade-f/">MadCatz proves its soul still burns with Soul Calibur V Arcade FightStick Soul Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 28 Oct 2011 10:25:00 EST. PS3 owners have been sportin' their own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/28/playstation-announces-official-wireless-cans-for-ps3-stereo-fra/">official gaming headset</a> for a few weeks, and now -- after months of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/03/mad-catz-snatches-up-exclusive-rights-to-xbox-360-wireless-headp/">teasing</a> -- Mad Catz is finally granting Xbox 360 owners a similar privilege. The company's announced that its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/04/mad-catz-exclusive-xbox-360-wireless-headphones-revealed-integ/">Tritton / Microsoft co-branded</a> Detonator Stereo USB gaming headset is available and shipping, priced at $80. Positioned as the first of a trio of its upcoming headsets -- including its wireless brethren, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/mad-catz-co-branded-xbox-360-tritton-headsets-eyes-on-ears-o/">stereo Devastator and Dolby 7.1 Warhead</a> -- the Detonator keeps it to the FPS-pwning essentials. The cans are loaded with massive 50mm drivers and along its cord you'll find an inline remote for adjusting game / chat volume, voice monitoring and mic muting. Impressively, aside from its detachable boom mic, the inline controller is also removeable, allowing you plug straight into your PMP when you're done trash talkin' on Xbox Live. We're still anxiously waiting for the Warhead (scheduled to ship this holiday season), but if wired stereo is your thing, hit the PR past the break for more info.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/30/madcatz-now-shipping-tritton-detonator-headset-official-xbox-36/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>MadCatz now shipping Tritton Detonator headset, official Xbox 360 stereo sound for $80</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/30/madcatz-now-shipping-tritton-detonator-headset-official-xbox-36/">MadCatz now shipping Tritton Detonator headset, official Xbox 360 stereo sound for $80</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 30 Sep 2011 17:31:00 EST. Let's be honest, balancing coursework with recreation is just as important as maintaining a balanced food diet -- perhaps even more. After you spend countless hours hitting the books, cramming for tests, and writing papers, you're just going to need something to turn your brain to mush. Don't worry, we have just the thing: video games. It doesn't matter <em>how </em>many midterms you have, we're sure we can find <em>something</em> to help you slack off. Of course, it's not going to be easy; you'll have to wait until <em>next semester</em> (at least) to get your hands on the PlayStation Vita, but that doesn't mean that you don't have options now. Jump past the break -- we can probably help you find something to get you through mid-terms with your sanity intact. Don't want to shell out cash to have fun this semester? If we didn't already know those cats were mad about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/21/exclusive-mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-review/">customizable</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/11/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-albino-first-hands-on/">controllers</a>, we just got a reminder: the Mad Catz Major League Gaming Pro-Circuit Controllers. These professional-grade PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers allow competitive gamers to adjust the gamepad's weight and swap out key components -- such as exchanging the controller's analog stick for a D-pad. Want your PS3 controller to have a Xbox 360 layout? No problem. If the insane kitty's ambitious <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/razer-refreshes-onza-360-controller-with-new-tournament-and-stan/">Onza</a> competitor isn't your thing, check out the MLG Tournament Edition Fightstick, featuring the same Sanwa Denshi components used in Japanese arcade cabinets. It may not have its sibling's stick-swapping action, but its 13-foot controller cable, classic layout, and left-right stick toggle mode (for emulating the missing analog thumbstick) still aims to please. The Arcade Fightstick can be had now at the GameShark store to the tune of $160, but the Pro-Circuit gamepads aren't due out until closer to the end of the year. Hit the break for a pair of extra pictures and the standard PR.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/23/mad-catz-major-league-gaming-controllers-offer-swappable-thumbst/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz Major League Gaming controllers offer swappable thumbstick layouts, fancy arcade buttons</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/23/mad-catz-major-league-gaming-controllers-offer-swappable-thumbst/">Mad Catz Major League Gaming controllers offer swappable thumbstick layouts, fancy arcade buttons</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 23 Aug 2011 00:14:00 EST. Mad Catz' aggressively named <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-a-guided-tour-video/">"Rat" mouse</a> line already looks like an exploding space ship of awesome in the form of a humble human interface device, but why not give it a <em>hint</em> more futuristic edge? Enter the Cyborg Rat Albino, Mad Catz' alabaster successor to the Rat 7, hitting the scene looking sleeker, cleaner, and somehow <em>ever-so-slightly</em> more futuristic than its matte black brethren. Although the Albino is still technically a Rat 7 itself, this murine clicker squeaked into the Engadget game room to show us it had a <em>little</em> more to flaunt than just a new paint job.<br />

When <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gearsofwar"><em>Gears of War 3</em></a> lands in September you'll be able to pick yourself up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/gears-of-war-limited-edition-xbox-360-paints-the-town-crimson-c/">special edition Xbox 360</a>. If you've already got an Xbox though, you don't have to skip out on the branded accessories game completely. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/madcatz">Mad Catz</a> has you covered with a trio licensed goodies, including a throat communicator, a stereo gaming headset and a 7.1 surround sound headset all decked out in the iconic blood-red and black of the franchise. The special edition of the surround sound set (above) is actually just a slightly updated version of the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tritton">Tritton</a> AX720 headgear with a new decoder box and an extra two channels of sound. Those who want to shout at their opponents without donning bulky ear-wear will likely gravitate towards the throat communicator. All three will launch alongside <em>GOW3</em> on September 20 for $30, $100, and $180 respectively. You can pre-order now at the more coverage link but, before you go, there's a pair of pics and some PR after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/mad-catz-gears-up-for-gears-of-war-with-branded-audio-gear-ge/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz gears up for Gears of War with branded audio gear... gear.</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/mad-catz-gears-up-for-gears-of-war-with-branded-audio-gear-ge/">Mad Catz gears up for Gears of War with branded audio gear... gear.</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 16:02:00 EST. Sure, some flight-sim junkies want to imagine themselves <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/26/saitek-keeps-flight-simulation-alive-with-new-gear-no-word-on-r/">dogfighting with an F-16</a>, afterburners screaming as they climb into the sky. But for virtual pilots less interested in white-knuckle air warfare, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MadCatz/">Mad Catz</a> has unveiled a product line based on that ubiquitous trainer, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The company's Saitek brand now offers a Yoke ($200), Trim Wheel ($50), and Rudder Pedals ($210), all officially licensed from the airplane manufacturer. Buy them all together and you'll receive a free Flight Switch Panel, thereby completing your cockpit ensemble. Remember, though: you're in this for the pure, majestic joy of simulated flight. It's not a competition, so don't let <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/13/australian-continues-to-hone-300-000-flight-simulator/">this guy and his $300,000 flight simulator</a> get under your skin. Mac users certainly have quite a few <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/steam,mac">more</a> gaming options these days than they once did, and they can now also add Mad Catz's series of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cyborgrat">Cyborg R.A.T.</a> gaming mice to that list. The company finally released some Mac drivers for the complete range of mice today, which will let you take advantage of all the advanced features Windows users are already accustomed to. Those still putting off that Snow Leopard update will have to take care of that first, however, as the drivers won't accept anything less.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/mad-catz-brings-mac-support-to-r-a-t-gaming-mice/">Mad Catz brings Mac support to R.A.T. gaming mice</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 08 Jun 2011 12:06:00 EST. You don't nab the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/03/mad-catz-snatches-up-exclusive-rights-to-xbox-360-wireless-headp/">exclusive rights</a> to create Xbox 360 branded headphones and not put some theoretical hutzpah into it: at E3 this week, Mad Catz is showing off a trio of co-branded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/04/mad-catz-exclusive-xbox-360-wireless-headphones-revealed-integ/">Tritton / Xbox 360 cans</a>, or at least a trio of fragile plastic facsimiles. These three mock-ups the Catz crew showed us represent the physical design of the Warhead, Devastator, and Detonator models of the co-branded line of headsets -- sporting wireless Dobly 7.1 surround sound, wireless analog, and USB connectivity, respectively. While all three models promise a slew of special sound features, the two wireless models have an exclusive shine: Xbox 360 microphone support without tethering themselves to the console's controller. Not that we got to hear for ourselves; the mock-ups were non-functional, and fragile enough that show staff wasn't feeling our enthusiasm for an ears-on demo. Still, we could dig ditching headset-to-controller leashes. Check out the gallery below to see all the bells, whistles, and switches, or hit the break for some meaty PR.<br />

Remember how Mad Catz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/03/mad-catz-snatches-up-exclusive-rights-to-xbox-360-wireless-headp/">scored the exclusive rights</a> to produce Xbox 360 wireless headphones? Here's the deal: these cans don't need to be tethered to your controller for voice chat or plugged into a wall to charge. According to <em>IGN</em>, the new Mad Catz Warhead 7.1 will get everything it needs from a base station connected to your console. String USB and optical cables directly from the Xbox 360 to that tiny tower above, and you'll reportedly get enough 5.8GHz bandwidth to deliver virtual Dolby surround sound to four pairs of headphones at once -- plus wireless Xbox LIVE audio chat thanks to some native support from Microsoft. What's more, the USB base station will also give you an on-screen battery readout, and if the Warhead runs out of juice, you'll find a second swappable battery pack sitting in the base station's charger. If that sounds too rich for your blood, the Devastator will ditch the surround sound and rechargeable batteries while retaining the same connectivity and 50mm drivers of its premium brother. How much that'll cost you is still to be determined, though Mad Catz told <em>IGN</em> they'll all ring up under $300 this holiday.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/04/mad-catz-exclusive-xbox-360-wireless-headphones-revealed-integ/">Mad Catz' exclusive Xbox 360 wireless headphones revealed: integrated voice chat, 5.8GHz base station</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 04 Jun 2011 22:08:00 EST. All products under the agreement will bear the Xbox logo, as well as the signature "T" from Mad Catz's recently acquired <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/mad-catz-rolls-out-mac-compatible-tritton-see2-series-usb-video/">Tritton</a> series, but don't go out looking for them anytime soon -- these cats won't mark their territory until Christmas 2011.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/03/mad-catz-snatches-up-exclusive-rights-to-xbox-360-wireless-headp/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz snatches up exclusive rights to Xbox 360 wireless headphones</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/03/mad-catz-snatches-up-exclusive-rights-to-xbox-360-wireless-headp/">Mad Catz snatches up exclusive rights to Xbox 360 wireless headphones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 03 Feb 2011 06:36:00 EST. That includes updated versions of its existing SEE2 UV150 external VGA video card and SEE2 XD300 Xpress Docking Station (with VGA, Ethernet, four USB ports, and mic and speaker ports), along with the all new SEE2 Xtreme UV250 external video card, which packs both VGA and DVI ports and supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200, but is apparently only compatible with Windows. Look for it to be available in April for $100, while two Mac-compatible devices will be available next month for $60 and $100. Full press release is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/mad-catz-rolls-out-mac-compatible-tritton-see2-series-usb-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz rolls out Mac-compatible Tritton See2 series USB video cards, See2 Xtreme for Windows</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/mad-catz-rolls-out-mac-compatible-tritton-see2-series-usb-video/">Mad Catz rolls out Mac-compatible Tritton See2 series USB video cards, See2 Xtreme for Windows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 08 Jan 2011 16:11:00 EST. He may be flashing a peace sign, but you can tell from the look in his eyes that Sonic isn't exactly thrilled to be doing anything to support <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nintendo">Nintendo</a>. This is the cat that made blast processing a reality, whose addiction for gold rings is legendary, and who hasn't starred in a truly great game since, well, since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sega">Sega</a> stopped making hardware, now reduced to this. Look at him, perched atop a mock floating platform, brown and tan checkerboard base with a green top where you can set your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimotes</a> for charging without stripping them of their prophylactics. Though the press release makes no mention of this, we were led to believe that this is not actually powered by your AC outlet, instead by the spirits of fuzzy little squirrels and rabbits trapped within, making this $49.99 figurine from Mad Catz all the more nefarious.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/27/sonic-the-hedgehog-will-charge-your-wiimote-inductively-but-he/">Sonic the Hedgehog will charge your Wiimote inductively, but he won't like it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 27 Dec 2010 13:20:00 EST. With merely weeks to go before Mr. Claus makes his wintry journey 'round the globe, Mad Catz has decided to finally ship a peripheral that was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/17/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-guitar-controller-and-midi-pro-ad/">introduced</a> way back in June. Without a doubt, the MIDI Pro adapter is one of the more intriguing music game accessories to hit the open market, enabling Rock Band 3 owners to use <i>most</i> MIDI keyboards and drum sets with the title. The box is shipping as we speak for Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Wii, and the Xbox 360 variant should be headed to Best Buy in the coming hours. If you'll recall, this guy's also designed to work with the forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3s-gear-priced-keytar-and-pro-guitar-sport-midi-out/">Rock Band 3 Squier guitar / controller</a>, and it even features a velocity sensitive adjustment for MIDI drums designed to reduce cross-talk during play. At $39.99, it's a no-brainer for those who already own a MIDI instrument or two, but we just might be more excited about the hacking possibilities than anything else. DIYers, get at it!<br />

Next week's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/RockBand3/">Rock Band 3</a> launch marks a giant step for the franchise, with the pro mode edging its gameplay closer to actual musicianship. The keyboards and drums are easier transitions to make, given what's essentially one-to-one mapping for notes and logical input solutions. But what about a guitar, arguably the genre's flagship instrument? We've seen and tried two solutions to the pro guitar input conundrum: the Squier Stratocaster, an actual guitar that's still not ready for primetime, and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MadCatz/">Mad Catz</a> Fender Mustang, a 102-button replica more reminiscent of peripheral than instrument. Still, with a mid-November release date, the latter's likely to be your only official option for pro guitar rocking this holiday. So, how does it fare? Read on to find out!<br />

In a world full of the shapely blobs we call computer mice, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CyborgRat/">Cyborg Rat</a> stands out. It's skeletal, metallic, and almost completely asymmetrical. Though most mice are one-size-fit-few, the Rat lets you transform the hardware itself to fit the shape of your hand. It's got two scroll wheels and a special button that lowers DPI while it's held -- and this new Rat 9, due out November, is completely wireless as well. Whereas <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/22/razer-mamba-wired-wireless-gaming-mouse-impressions/">Razer</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/microsoft-sidewinder-x8-gaming-mouse-gets-official-examined/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/logitech-g700-mouse-and-g930-headset-review/">Logitech</a> all built their premium wireless gaming mice from scratch -- and with cord-based charging in mind -- the Rat 9 instead integrates a hot-swappable battery pack and a 2.4GHz radio into the same modular design. Is it a half-baked attempt at wireless bliss, or do we have a new king of mice? Find out after the break in our full review. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-unboxing-and-hands-on/">Mad Catz Cyborg Rat 9 unboxing and hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-unboxing-and-hands-on/#3490103"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/10-20-10-rat9800001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-unboxing-and-hands-on/#3490104"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/10-20-10-rat9800002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-unboxing-and-hands-on/#3490105"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/10-20-10-rat9800003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-unboxing-and-hands-on/#3490106"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/10-20-10-rat9800004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-unboxing-and-hands-on/#3490107"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/10/10-20-10-rat9800005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/21/exclusive-mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Exclusive: Mad Catz Cyborg Rat 9 review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/21/exclusive-mad-catz-cyborg-rat-9-review/">Exclusive: Mad Catz Cyborg Rat 9 review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 21 Oct 2010 18:00:00 EST. If there's anything Microsoft's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Kinect/">Kinect</a> has over the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/PlayStationMove/">PlayStation Move</a> -- neither seem to have a killer app -- it's that peripheral manufacturers (hopefully) won't be able to generate <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/wii,accessories">wave after wave of cheap plastic junk</a> to wave in front of a camera. As you can imagine, PlayStation Move peripheral purveyors have no such problem, and Nyko, Mad Catz, Interworks, CTA Digital, PDP and more are pumping out plenty of plastic shells and chargers for those ball-tipped motion controllers. Hit the links below to just see how far we haven't come. <br />

Mad Catz' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/11/mad-catz-modern-warfare-2-peripherals-break-cover-reveal-pricin/"><em>Modern Warfare 2 </em>peripherals</a> won't know what hit them when <em>Black Ops</em> debuts this fall -- the quality of the company's gamepads has increased yet again, and of course, this year the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/14/black-ops-controllers-arent-stealthy-enough-to-avoid-pre-releas/"><em>Call of Duty</em>-flavored lineup</a> ships with a genuine <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-a-guided-tour-video/">R.A.T. mouse</a>. We snuck down the streets of San Francisco for a top secret rendezvous to test these controllers out, and discovered a pair of the most comfortable gamepads we've tried for our trouble. Read our full impressions after the break -- totally declassified. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catzs-call-of-duty-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-hands-on/">Mad Catz's Black Ops PrecisionAIM controllers, hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catzs-call-of-duty-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-hands-on/#3340388"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/9-7-10-madcatz01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catzs-call-of-duty-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-hands-on/#3340389"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/9-7-10-madcatz02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catzs-call-of-duty-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-hands-on/#3340390"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/9-7-10-madcatz03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catzs-call-of-duty-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-hands-on/#3340391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/9-7-10-madcatz04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catzs-call-of-duty-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-hands-on/#3340392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/9-7-10-madcatz05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/08/mad-catzs-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-and-stealth-mouse-han/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz's Black Ops PrecisionAim gamepads and Stealth mouse hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/08/mad-catzs-black-ops-precisionaim-gamepads-and-stealth-mouse-han/">Mad Catz's Black Ops PrecisionAim gamepads and Stealth mouse hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 08 Sep 2010 10:26:00 EST. Microsoft may have axed its Flight Simulator franchise a little while back, but it appears that there are still enough virtual pilots out there to keep <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mad+Catz/">Mad Catz</a> abuzz with making new apparatus. In fact, the notoriously expensive <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/saitek">Saitek</a> Pro Flight range will be seeing an addition of three new products in October. First we have the self-explanatory Backlit Information Panel, which could probably double as a pricey mood light if you have $149.00 / &pound;129.99 / &euro;149.99 to spare. Next up is the identically-priced Throttle, Pitch and Mixture System box that's supposed to replicate the controls found on the Cessna, Piper and Money Bravo light aircrafts. If these two modules fail to drain your piggy bank, you could always fork out another $199.99 / &pound;179.99 / &euro;199.99 for the F16 / F35-inspired, die-cast alloy Combat Rudder Pedals. Bundle these with the other Saitek hardware and you might get close to having the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/13/australian-continues-to-hone-300-000-flight-simulator/">full cockpit</a>.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/26/saitek-keeps-flight-simulation-alive-with-new-gear-no-word-on-r/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Saitek keeps flight simulation alive with new gear, no word on robot air hostesses</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/26/saitek-keeps-flight-simulation-alive-with-new-gear-no-word-on-r/">Saitek keeps flight simulation alive with new gear, no word on robot air hostesses</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 26 Jul 2010 08:09:00 EST. Another autumn is fast approaching, which to FPS gamers mean only one thing: time to prepare to heed the next <em>Call of Duty</em>. In a repeat of last year's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/11/mad-catz-modern-warfare-2-peripherals-break-cover-reveal-pricin/">controller bonanza</a>, Mad Catz is producing a litany of licensed <em>Black Ops </em>peripherals -- for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC -- and we've now got the first imagery of their appearance. The new gear hasn't been made official just yet, but what you see here should be a good representation of the final product. Above is the 360 controller, which will share a major new feature with its PS3 brother: precision aiming. It's a simple lowering of the analog sticks' sensitivity when you want to do some more precise work and will be toggled by the use of "combat" buttons on the controller's back. MSRPs are expected to land at just under $50 for the console pads and $100 for a rebadged <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-a-guided-tour-video/">Cyborg Rat</a> PC mouse and accompanying 2GB USB dog tag. We still can't get time with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3s-gear-priced-keytar-and-pro-guitar-sport-midi-out/">Fender Mustang Pro guitar controller</a> while actually <em>playing</em> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/RockBand3/">Rock Band 3</a>, but the gang at the Mad Catz booth were fine enough with us letting us toy around on its own, sans game. So, how does it feel just silently going through chords and scales? Sturdy as can be, sure, and the 100-plus buttons for the neck feel like they'll stand up for a good bit of time. That said, it felt harder than a real guitar locating the strings and frets -- especially a pain for faster chord changing. Also a burden? No ability to bend strings -- not that you'll be able to bend on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/rock-band-3-squier-stratocaster-plays-both-real-and-virtual-guit/">the Squier Stratocaster</a> either, as it turns out, but that's a whole 'nother issue. We also got some eyes on the MIDI Pro Adapter for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii; there isn't much to look at for now, but if you get your kicks from plastic dongles, hey, we've got all the photos you need below.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">As unfair as it is, what initially gave us hesitation about Mad Catz and Squier's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3s-gear-priced-keytar-and-pro-guitar-sport-midi-out/">Stratocaster Pro guitar controller</a> was that, well, it's Fender's second-tier brand. Despite these prejudices from our youth, Harmonix pretty much sold us on it with one pretty badass trick: the ability to simultaneously <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-gets-pro-mode-real-guitar-hybrid-controller-and-k/">play Rock Band 3</a> on Pro Expert <em>and </em>rock the same tune through an amplifier. Bonus: in the presentation we saw, extra notes and added fills didn't seem to affect score. So, that just about turns the uncanny valley of plastic peripherals on its head. Just make sure you crank your TV's sound system to 11 to not be drowned out from what's likely an even worse screw-up sound. See for yourself in the video after the break (caution: a few naughty words contained within).<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-and-squier-stratocaster-guitars-up-close-and-impersonal/">Rock Band 3 Fender Mustang Pro and Squier Stratocaster guitars, up close and impersonal</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-and-squier-stratocaster-guitars-up-close-and-impersonal/#3084149"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-rp-guitars-hands-2010-06-1519-36-35-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-and-squier-stratocaster-guitars-up-close-and-impersonal/#3084150"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-rp-guitars-hands-2010-06-1519-36-36-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-and-squier-stratocaster-guitars-up-close-and-impersonal/#3084148"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-rp-guitars-hands-2010-06-1519-30-15-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-and-squier-stratocaster-guitars-up-close-and-impersonal/#3084132"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-rp-guitars-hands-2010-06-1519-06-31-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-and-squier-stratocaster-guitars-up-close-and-impersonal/#3084133"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-rp-guitars-hands-2010-06-1519-06-35-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/rock-band-3-squier-stratocaster-plays-both-real-and-virtual-guit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster plays both real and virtual guitar... at the same time (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/rock-band-3-squier-stratocaster-plays-both-real-and-virtual-guit/">Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster plays both real and virtual guitar... at the same time (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 Jun 2010 01:21:00 EST. Has your head cooled from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-gets-pro-mode-real-guitar-hybrid-controller-and-k/">all that rock news this morning</a>? Nope? Well, we'd hate to rile you up again, but Mad Catz -- now the official provider of all Rock Band 3 equipment -- has priced its latest arsenal for the upcoming rhythm revival title. There's also a few new details on each instrument, so without further ado:
<ul>
    <li>Wireless Keyboard: That MIDI port many of you spotted is for output, letting you plug the two-octave (C3 to C5) velocity-sensitive keytar directly into MIDI sequencers for non-gaming use. It'll set you back $80, with an optional stand to be sold separately (no price given) alongside the game's launch. Buying the keyboard / game bundle will be $130, or about $10 off individual purchases. Oh, and if you want to feel a bit more techno, this puppy can be used as the guitar / bass input.</li>
    <li>MIDI PRO-Adapter: Want to use your own keyboard or electronic drum set? Here's the mediator you need, from MIDI to USB to console, and it sports the D-pad and other necessary gamepad buttons as well as velocity sensitivity adjustment controls. Asking price is $40.</li>
    <li>Pro Cymbals Expansion kit: three cymbals, apparently rejiggered from RB2's offerings for quieter play and a pre-defined 10 degree angle. It's $40 for this hi-hat, crash, and ride pack.</li>
    <li>Wireless Fender Mustang Pro Guitar Controller: Not the Squier hybrid we saw, this one actually sports a multitude of buttons for each string, spanning 17 frets (102 buttons in all). Actual strings are used for the plucking and strumming, and here's something interesting -- the axe has a MIDI output for software sequencers. This behemoth is $150, or approximately 1.5 Benjamins in your local currency.</li>
</ul>
Pictures of each instrument -- and the yet-to-be-priced Squier -- in the gallery below, as well as a few screen caps of Pro mode so you can get an idea how exactly it'll "correct you" on proper Bohemian Rhapsody finger picking. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-hardware-and-screenshots/">Rock Band 3 hardware and screenshots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-hardware-and-screenshots/#3069714"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-official-2010-04-2711-40-06-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-hardware-and-screenshots/#3069715"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-official-2010-06-1118-13-00-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-hardware-and-screenshots/#3069716"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-official-2010-06-1118-13-05-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-hardware-and-screenshots/#3069717"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-official-2010-06-1118-13-10-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rock-band-3-hardware-and-screenshots/#3069718"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/rb3-official-2010-06-1118-13-14-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3s-gear-priced-keytar-and-pro-guitar-sport-midi-out/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rock Band 3's gear priced: keytar and Pro guitar sport MIDI out, adapter lets you use any keyboard / electronic drum set</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3s-gear-priced-keytar-and-pro-guitar-sport-midi-out/">Rock Band 3's gear priced: keytar and Pro guitar sport MIDI out, adapter lets you use any keyboard / electronic drum set</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 22:41:00 EST. Wrap your head around this one: a 150-button guitar peripheral. That's for the pro version of <em>Rock Band 3</em>, whose goal is to actually turn the controllers into something more fitting of actual musicianship in a separate, more advanced "Pro" mode (the core game is still intact for those want it). First up is the aforementioned <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/10/rock-band-3-keyboard-revealed-looks-like-a-keyboard/">two-octave keyboard / keytar</a>, whose difficulty goes from pressing within one of five ranges to actual dead-on notes. For drums, the three cymbals can now actually function as separate notes, sharing three lanes but given their own shape to know which to hit. Guitar, however, is a whole new beast. A $150 Fender Mustang pro (pictured up top) boasts 17 frets and 6 strings of accurate placement for a total of 102 buttons, and six nylon strings that must be plucked individually. Of course, if that hits the uncanny valley of plastic peripherals too closely, there's a Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster that'll be coming out that can actually be used as a real guitar <em>or</em> a Pro model. Vocal melodies from <em>Beatles Rock Band</em> carry over here. No concrete release date; head on over to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/go-check-out-the-new-joystiq/">new <em>Joystiq</em></a> for the preview, or if you want to see <em>true trendsetters</em>, watch Devo predict this game all the way from 1982 -- that video's after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-gets-pro-mode-real-guitar-hybrid-controller-and-k/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rock Band 3 gets 'Pro' mode, real guitar hybrid controller and keytar revealed -- Devo be praised</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-gets-pro-mode-real-guitar-hybrid-controller-and-k/">Rock Band 3 gets 'Pro' mode, real guitar hybrid controller and keytar revealed -- Devo be praised</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 Jun 2010 00:44:00 EST. But there's no arguing that having a keytar peripheral is far, <em>far</em> more awesome in the grand scheme of things. According to the same mole on <i>ArsTechnica</i> that has correctly nailed a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/10/mole-says-400-40gb-ps3-and-more-coming-this-holiday-season/">new PS3 bundle</a>, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/mole-says-umd-less-psp-go-is-on-for-e3-slimmer-ps3-to-follow/">PSP go</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/01/mole-sez-xbox-360-price-cuts-coming-in-september-arcade-for-19/">Xbox 360 price cuts</a>, <i>Rock Band 3</i> will feature a new keytar peripheral, which will undoubtedly destroy our productivity for an indefinite amount of time. We're also told that Mad Catz will be taking over the production of <i>RB</i> hardware, leaving Harmonix only responsible for touching up the software. There's still no indication of when this mythical device will be hitting your local Game Stop, but it's certainly safe to slide your pre-order alert system to Orange.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/rock-band-3-purportedly-gaining-keytar-peripheral-infinite-amou/">Rock Band 3 purportedly gaining keytar peripheral, infinite amounts of our love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 27 May 2010 15:05:00 EST. <em><strong>For over thirty years the computer mouse ruled over the kingdom of computer navigation. Despite losing its rubber ball and cord over the years, the </strong></em><em><strong>peripheral</strong></em><em><strong> lived a long, full life of being pushed across desks and tables </strong></em><em><strong>getting the cursor where it needed to go</strong></em><em><strong>. It died today from neglect as it was abandoned en masse for touchpads and touch-based computers. </strong></em><br />
<br />
Many tech pundits have already started drafting an obituary of the computer mouse like the one above, but let's be clear: we think the death of the mouse is greatly exaggerated. In fact, we're so convinced the mouse isn't dead that we've been testing some of the best on the market for the last couple of months. Click on below to find out why we think the lowly mouse has more than a few good years left, and which ones out there deserve your attention.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/25/the-mouse-aint-dead-yet-five-of-the-best-mice-reviewed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The mouse ain't dead...yet: five of the best mice reviewed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/25/the-mouse-aint-dead-yet-five-of-the-best-mice-reviewed/">The mouse ain't dead...yet: five of the best mice reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 25 May 2010 14:44:00 EST. Yo, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mad+catz/">Mad Catz</a>. We both know there aren't a lot of good flight sims on the Xbox 360, but that's no excuse for releasing a bargain-budget stick like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/mad-catz-rolls-out-new-saitek-aviator-flight-sticks-for-xbox-360/">the Aviator</a> as your first foray into the console space. It doesn't do <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/08/the-ultimate-sim-controller-dog-fight/">Saitek's reputation</a> justice, and fliers like us won't stand for it. We want something a little more substantial. Something like your fancy Cyborg X flight stick for PC... What's that, you say? You've done it? Fan-tastic. With nearly all the bells and whistles of the original stick but added buttons, a removable lap rest and completely wireless functionality, the Cyborg F.L.Y. 9 looks like just the stick to strafe our Xbox 360 budget this spring for $100. But hey, that's not cool -- what's with doubling the original Cyborg X's $50 price? Press release after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/01/mad-catz-courts-xbox-360-dogfighters-with-pricy-f-l-y-9-flights/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz courts Xbox 360 dogfighters with pricy F.L.Y. 9 flightstick</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/01/mad-catz-courts-xbox-360-dogfighters-with-pricy-f-l-y-9-flights/">Mad Catz courts Xbox 360 dogfighters with pricy F.L.Y. 9 flightstick</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 01 Apr 2010 09:27:00 EST. Check out the guided tour of the Rat 7 from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CeBIT/">CeBIT</a> show floor, and an explanation of the differences in each series iteration - after the break, care of global PR manager Alex Verrey. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-at-cebit-2010/">Mad Catz Cyborg Rat at CeBIT 2010</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-at-cebit-2010/#2768738"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/cyborg-rat7-cebit-2010-03-0407-22-53-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-at-cebit-2010/#2768739"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/cyborg-rat7-cebit-2010-03-0407-23-01-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-at-cebit-2010/#2768740"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/cyborg-rat7-cebit-2010-03-0407-23-07-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-at-cebit-2010/#2768741"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/cyborg-rat7-cebit-2010-03-0407-23-11-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-at-cebit-2010/#2768742"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/cyborg-rat7-cebit-2010-03-0407-23-22-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-a-guided-tour-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz Cyborg Rat: a guided tour (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/04/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-a-guided-tour-video/">Mad Catz Cyborg Rat: a guided tour (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Mar 2010 10:31:00 EST. We've seen plenty of gaming mice with adjustable DPI and swappable weights, but the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/mad-catz-adds-mice-to-cyborg-pc-gaming-line-doesnt-blend-hum/">Cyborg Rat</a> lineup from Mad Catz is truly stunning. The mouse is adjustable in almost every dimension and angle, thanks to certain sliding aspects, some hex key-adjustable mechanisms and buttons galore (including a very useful aiming button for slowing down the cursor in those heated sniper moments). The real winner is the Rat 9, which is wireless and has a nifty little "home base" that continuously charges a hot-swappable replacement AA battery and keeps some extra weights warm as well, though with a $130 pricetag it's not for the faint of heart. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-3/">Mad Catz Cyborg Rat hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-3/#2596308"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/mad-catz-rat-01-hands_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-3/#2596307"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/mad-catz-rat-02-hands_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-3/#2596306"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/mad-catz-rat-03-hands_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-3/#2596305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/mad-catz-rat-04-hands_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-3/#2596294"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/mad-catz-rat-05-hands_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/mad-catz-cyborg-rat-hands-on-true-customizable-mouse-madness/">Mad Catz Cyborg Rat hands-on: true customizable mouse madness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 07 Jan 2010 22:40:00 EST. Rabid feline news now, with the erroneously spelled peripheral maker announcing "a new range of premium Cyborg gaming mice" expected to be in(side?) consumer's hands by Spring 2010. We feel like we can confide in you: we also assumed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MadCatz/">Mad Catz</a> had finally done it, actually blended human flesh with a traditional gaming mouse to create a new class (and species!) of PC gaming peripheral. Alas, no - it's just the addition of four mice, ranging in price from $50 to $130, to their currently keyboard-heavy existing Cyborg PC gaming lineup. "The Cyborg mouse range was developed entirely in house and I believe they are the most comfortable gaming mice you'll ever use," said Mad Cat Darren Richardson. "Also, upon contact with your hand, it will merge with your DNA and create an entirely new appendage blending the greatest aspects of the human body and the gaming mouse." Alright, we made that last part up ... but how about actual half-robot-half-rodent tech ... <br />
