You can't stop Verizon's nationwide LTE push -- and even hoping to contain it seems like a bit much to ask these days. The company made its last major 4G service rollout just under a week ago, and now it's looking to do the same next month, adding a slew of new markets to its coverage umbrella and expanding in a few existing locales on July 21st. New markets include Portland, OR, Toledo, OH, Winston-Salem and Raleigh-Durham, NC, Maui, HI, Wichita, KS, and Knoxville, TN, to name a few. Coverage will be expanded in Seattle, Louisville, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas. The full list of high-speed recipients can be found in the link below.

Think LTE is the future? How's about the present? Clearwire is expanding its national footprint in a big, big way today by announcing WiMAX services in a slew of regions in a smattering of states. Starting today, 4G access can be found in both Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii, which effectively removes the last sane reason to not visit and / or relocate there. In fact, CLEAR is now available to 800,000 citizens of America's finest state, with service extending 1,759 square miles over Oahu, Maui, and Lanai. Moving on, residents of Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh, North Carolina can also buy in, right along with those folks in Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio and Austin, Texas who mistakenly think their BBQ is superior. Closing things out, we've got new access throughout the Puget Sound area (including Seattle and King County, Pierce County, Kitsap County, and Snohomish County), not to mention a green light to hop on the 4G superhighway in the Chicago region. If you're anxious to ditch 3G, you'll find plans starting at just $30 per month.

  • Phoenix Motorcars undergoing restructuring, still committed to EV space

With proven success stories like Tesla struggling to keep those electric car dreams alive in today's economy, it's no shock to hear that at least one little guy (that'd be Phoenix Motorcars) has caved to the pressures. After reviving itself once already late last year by nailing down a partnership with the absolutely stunning state of Hawai'i, it seems the company hasn't been able to progress as planned with its intentions to bring EVs and an electric vehicle infrastructure to the island of Maui. According to a filing on April 27th, the flagging automaker has pegged the soft economy (surprise!) as well as a $5.3 million arbitration apparently won by former drivetrain supplier UQM as the main contributors to its demise. In an update to the situation, however, its CEO has replied to AutoblogGreen in order to reaffirm that it "has not abandoned the alternative fuels transportation space." Unfortunately, that could mean absolutely anything... or nothing at all.Read - Original filingRead - Update from Phoenix MC

Whoa, talk about returning from the depths of yesteryear. For those with incredibly good memories (we're talking superhero-level here), you might remember Phoenix Motorcars touting a "truly plug-and-play" vehicle nearly two years ago to the day. Now, the outfit is back with a partnership with the state of Hawai'i. In an ambitious press release, the two parties have jointly announced plans to bring "all-electric vehicles and an electric vehicle infrastructure to the island of Maui by 2009." The premise is sound; after all, it doesn't many months of paying $5.29 / gallon for regular (proof after the break) to get everyone on the island to support such an initiative. The real question, however, is will Phoenix Motorcars deliver? Bonus shots to make you envious of whoever will be testing these are also just beyond the break.

If you were mildly intrigued by AMD's Maui HTPC platform, but have since pushed off the idea of crafting your very own media center PC, we're glad to have your attention once more. HotHardware had a chance to toy around with a Maui-based system, and rather than telling us about it in a dissertation-style writeup, it simply flipped on the video camera and hosted up a 7.5 minute clip showing it off. Have a look after the break.

HTPC-centric motherboards aren't exactly everywhere these days, so we figured it prudent to pass along this heads-up. AMD's flexible Maui platform is now on sale, bringing with it a low-power Phenom or Athlon X2 processor, an AMD 780-series (or higher) IGPU, an ATI TV tuner and AMD's Live media center software elements. Reviews from buyers have been generally positive thus far, and you can snag one now for $189.99.[Via HotHardware]
