October the 18th is the big day if you're after some of the sharp-sounding Motorola action. The 8-megapixel, NFC-enabled RAZR HD , if you recall, sports a 4.7-inch 720p display, running ICS (Jelly Bean update in the works) on that dual-core S4 chip. If you cast your memory back once more, you'll remember that the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/motorola-announces-droid-razr-maxx-hd/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">RAZR MAXX HD</a> has the same sized screen, but the real killer feature is that 3,300 mAh battery. The RAZR HD will set you back $200, in either black or white with 16GB storage, the MAXX, however will run you an extra $100, and has double the storage. So, which one gets your money?</p>

Good news is you won't have to wait it out on the sidelines much longer, as Motorola's announced the extra juice-packing Maxx is set to make its Euro and Middle Eastern debut come next month. However, Moto wasn't clear about how much you'll have to shell out to grasp onto this Droid, or which specific countries it'll make the trip toward. Whatever it may be, let's hope it's already been fed that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/01/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ice Cream Sandwich</a> we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/20/droid-razr-ice-cream-sandwich-screenshots/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">spotted a while back</a>...</div>

Now, just for the sake of argument, let's say Motorola -- only months later -- released a new version of that handset with a battery that had <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/31/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">some pundits</a> asking, 'where has this phone been my whole life?' Yeah, that happened. But if you've managed to overlook Moto's past transgression, and are willing to sink another $110 into your handset, you too can experience the battery that just won't quit. The Cellphone Repair Shop is hawking a kit that will outfit your plain old RAZR with genuine Motorola RAZR Maxx parts -- battery included. The site recommends that you send your handset to its repair facility for "professional installation," but we're sure some of you are up to the challenge. How about it, RAZR owners, are any of you tinkerers going to try and Maxx-out your handset?

That's the word from <em>Android and Me</em>, which reports that Big Red's staffers are being offered exclusive versions of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/droidrazr?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid RAZR</a> (16GB, $99) and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/droidrazrmaxx?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">RAZR Maxx</a> (32GB, $199). In addition to a distinctive red and black pattern on the handset's rear, a unique number will be engraved within the camera pod and the words 'Limited Edition' will appear next to Verizon's logo on the front. Employees will also score a free dock with their purchase and can expect the handsets to arrive in April -- which is a good indication of when these things should hit Craigslist.

The race to construct the thinnest phones on the market doesn't help much either, since whittling down handsets results in less space for generously sized battery packs. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/motorola-droid-razr-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Motorola Droid RAZR</a> is currently the slimmest phone this side of the Pacific, offering a thickness of 7.1mm at its thinnest end, and the title likely won't hold for long as new phones like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/huawei-ascend-p1-s-and-p1-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Huawei Ascend P1 S</a> aim to knock the RAZR off its throne. But at what point do we stand up and insist on adding a little extra heft for the sake of having a bigger battery?<br /><br /><div class="follow_this_in_post"> <img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/11/more_info_header_1.gif" /><br /> <div class="ftip_links"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/motorola-droid-razr-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid RAZR review</a></div> <div class="ftip_links"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-available-now-more-battery-same-shape/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid RAZR Maxx available now</a></div> <div class="ftip_links"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-hands-on-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid RAZR Maxx hands-on at CES</a></div></div>Enter the Motorola <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-hands-on-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid RAZR Maxx</a>. A mere two months after its predecessor was released on Verizon, this new contender came around to challenge the battery life of every single next-gen phone we've ever used. Its back end has been filled out somewhat to make room for a bigger battery, but at 8.99mm, it's still slimmer than a huge number of competing handsets on the market today. So what makes the Maxx different from the RAZR? Is it worth paying $300 with a two-year commitment -- a $100 premium over its original? Samsung's vice president of product innovation, Kevin Packingham, said in an interview with CNET that Korea's darling has set the lofty goal that smartphones coming out this year last an entire day under average to moderately heavy use. Samsung's plans include beefing up batteries, but it also intends to look at improving energy efficiency by tweaking the various radios -- LTE, WiFi -- to make them a little less greedy. Motorola has already seemingly caught this wave with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/motorola-droid-razr-maxx-hands-on-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">RAZR MAXX</a> -- a slightly chubbier Motorola RAZR -- which is essentially the same set as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/RAZR/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">RAZR</a> but with enough juice so you can use it instead of spending your day looking for an outlet to charge it. Unfortunately, things could get sticky as the definition of "moderately heavy use" is a pretty tough thing to pin down. Would you put up with a huskier phone to get you through the day or is a slim set more important? Feel free to chime in with your comments below.<div style="text-align: center; "></div>

The latest major addition to Verizon's Droid Razr family, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/droid-razr-family-gets-a-new-addition-his-name-is-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Razr Maxx</a>, was on hand, as were the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/15/white-droid-razr-available-now-on-verizon-for-299-on-contract/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">white</a> and purple variants of the original version. So what makes the $300 subsidized Maxx so different from its predecessor? Simply enough, the name is a direct reflection of the phone's battery life, as it sports a thicker (translating to a thickness of 8.99mm, a couple millimeters thicker than the original) 3,300 mAh juicepack that promises an out-of-this-world 21 hour talk time. Sadly, we didn't have 21 full hours to dedicate to testing this claim, but we did have enough time to get a few pictures and a video of the entire Droid Razr family together at last below the break.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/moto-razr-family-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Moto RAZR family hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/moto-razr-family-hands-on/4752594?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/motorazrfamily07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/moto-razr-family-hands-on/4752591?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/motorazrfamily04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/moto-razr-family-hands-on/4752592?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/motorazrfamily05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/moto-razr-family-hands-on/4752593?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/motorazrfamily06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/moto-razr-family-hands-on/4752590?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/motorazrfamily03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em>Myriam Joire contributed to this report.</em></div>

Assuming it's not a mistake of some sort, you can look for the latest addition to the RAZR family to be available on January 26th from both Verizon and Motorola itself. If you missed the announcement, the Maxx is mostly identical to the existing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/droidrazr?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid RAZR</a>, with the notable exception of a longer-lasting battery that promises 21 hours of use on a charge, and a total of 32GB of storage. It'll also set you back $100 more than the standard RAZR.</div>

Leave it to Motorola to milk the iconic RAZR branding for all it's worth. A new LTE phone has appeared in Verizon's inventory system, and dubbed the Droid RAZR MAXX, it seems to be at least a spiritual successor to the original <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/24/moto-surprises-with-3g-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">MotoRAZR MAXX</a>. Little else is known about the device, other than some EXIF data that hints at a similar 8 megapixel shooter. Like the variants we've seen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/13/droid-razrs-cdma2000-and-td-scdma-variants-teased-in-china-the/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">floating around</a> in China, could this option be sporting a 720p display? Perhaps a beefier battery? Or maybe it's just "maxxxxed" out with a few design tweaks and a slightly higher price. Place your bets while the gamblin' is good, folks. Soon enough, we're going to know what makes this one tick.

Just dropped off today, we snapped a few pics of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=unboxing?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">unboxing</a> ceremony for your viewing pleasure. As a refresher point on the feature set, here ya go: dual band 1X / EVDO (sorry no <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=rev.a?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Rev. Keep a look out for the Ve review!<br /><br />

The L72 SLVR follows on from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/31/motorolas-slvr-l7-now-available-from-cingular/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">its L7 ancestor</a> with the same 11.5mm "thinness," but brings HSDPA, a zoom and auto-focus free 2-megapixel camera, and some other standard features like an FM radio, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">a microSD</span> card slot, and a silly buzzword technology called "<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">CrystalTalk" which will apparently improve call quality. The Maxx V1110 (pictured) is an even more average update on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/vodafone?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Vodafone</a> exclusive V1110 minus 10 (aka, the V1100). As such, the lack of branding on the photos plus the identical specs -- HSDPA, 1.3-megapixel camera -- suggests that this is just a general release free of its operator exclusivity shackles. Not that anyone will be scrambling to pick up cellphone tech, vintage 2006.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://justamp.blogspot.com/search/label/Motorola">Justamp</a>]<br /></span>

Verizon's finally fessed up to a couple hotly-anticipated handsets that've been kicking around in rumorland for some months now: the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/16/verizon-to-get-its-own-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">MOTORAZR maxx Ve</a> from Motorola and LG's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=vx8700?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">VX8700</a>. The maxx Ve is the CDMA rendition of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/24/moto-surprises-with-3g-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">V6 maxx</a> for GSM networks, offering a 2 megapixel cam, touch sensitive controls, and a thin, sleek package -- in other words, nothing has changed since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/27/motorolas-four-cdma-multimedia-cellphones-rokr-z6m-razr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">yesterday</a> spec-wise -- and will drain your wallet, purse, or other currency-toting device of $200 after rebates on a two-year agreement when it hits on April 24. Announced alongside the maxx Ve, the VX8700 takes LG's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=shine?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Shine</a> formula and brings it to the US for the first time, although Verizon has opted not to tag the phone with Shine branding for some reason. Like the maxx Ve, you get a 2 megapixel cam, microSD expansion, but this one's for the high-style types with a champagne-hued brushed metal case. It'll beat the Moto to market, rolling out on April 6 for $180 after rebates with the requisite contract.<br /><br /><a href="http://news.vzw.com/news/2007/03/pr2007-03-28b.html">Read</a> - Motorola MOTORAZR maxx Ve<br /><a href="http://news.vzw.com/news/2007/03/pr2007-03-28.html">Read</a> - LG VX8700

Motorola just went official with four new CDMA handsets ready to hit before July: the MOTOROKR Z6m slider (left), <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=maxx?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">MOTORAZR maxx Ve</a> clam (right), and mass market W385 and W355. First up, the RAZR maxx Ve king headed to Verizon which Moto has been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/09/motorola-teases-with-razr-maxx-ve-site/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">teasing us</a> with for a few months. It's what we expected: ultra-thin, EVDO, and 2 megapixel camera with integrated music player and touch-sensitive controls. The Z6m slider (which looks like a CDMA <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=rizr+z3?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">RIZR Z3</a>) hopes to shake the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/07/the-motorola-rokr-e1-apple-itunes-phone/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">original (E1)</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=rokr?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ROKR's</a> fumbled hype. The Z6m multi-modal slider packs a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth or 3.5-mm headphone jack to get tethered, and up to 2GB of removable memory. The W385 and W355 bring multimedia on a budget with a mix of GPS location services, Bluetooth, and FM radio. Now go ahead, check the gallery for all the pics -- don't cost nothin'.<br />

First we were teased with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/25/cdma-motorola-maxx-ve-in-the-flesh-kind-of/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">marketing photos</a>, then there was the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/26/leakymoto-part-ii-motorazr-maxx-ve-user-guide/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">instruction manual</a>, now our good friend <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=boy+genius?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Boy Genius</a> gives us a hands-on with the Motorola MAXX Ve for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/29/verizon-passed-up-apple-iphone-deal/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Verizon Wireless</a>. From the pics of the larger outside display to the redesigned keypad, it's looking so svelte. Let's not forget the <em>lovely</em> Verizon UI and the 2 megapixel shooter with auto focus. Too bad The Network and Motorola left out <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/22/verizons-vcast-tv-launch-plans/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">VCAST TV</a> because we'd love to watch it on this QVGA!

Well, a hearty good morning to you too, FCC. Our favorite gadgety governmental org just approved a quad-band GSM version of Motorola's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=maxx?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Maxx</a> v6. Better yet, it supports UMTS in the US with a new 850MHz radio in addition to supporting 2100MHz for Europe -- there's no mention of 1900MHz which might (but not necessarily) make this a single-band HSDPA phone. Otherwise, it looks to have all the same hotness we've already seen -- QVGA display, 50MB of internal memory with a microSD slot for more, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR including A2DP profile support for untethered stereo audio, and a 2 megapixel camera with a second VGA cam under the clam for video conferencing. Now move over Verizon, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/16/verizon-to-get-its-own-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">your CDMA-based MAXX</a> just got competition.

It's been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/16/verizon-to-get-its-own-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ages</a> since we first saw a CDMA-compatible Motorola RAZR maxx for Verizon -- thanks to none other than Moto itself publishing pictures on one of its sites -- and Chicago's home team is throwing confidentiality to the wind once again by throwing up the still-unreleased <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/25/cdma-motorola-maxx-ve-in-the-flesh-kind-of/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">maxx Ve's</a> user guide. No surprises, really -- VCAST music and videos, Bluetooth with A2DP (and dial-up networking!) -- but this'll be some hot reading material to hold folks over for a few more minutes while we patiently wait for a release (or, heck, even an official announcement would be nice). It's been a few months since we heard a rumble from the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/16/verizon-to-get-its-own-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CDMA side of the stable</a>, until recently when a <a href="http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=8632727&amp;postcount=185">Howard Forums member</a> put up marketing pics of the yet to be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/08/telstra-rolls-deep-with-motorola-razr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Motorola MAXX</a> Ve. The device has been updated with a new color scheme, will support VCAST Video and Music (sorry, no TV support here fellas), EV-DO, have a 2 megapixel shooter with expandable microSD memory, and that infamous Verizon interface. Other than that, we are on pins and needles hungering for more information. Anyone care to share?

There's still no sign of when exactly we might be able to get our grubby American paws on a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/16/verizon-to-get-its-own-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Verizon-branded MAXX</a>, but Australia's Telstra Mobile is gearing up to deliver the Christmas goodies a little early this year. As a refresher, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/24/moto-surprises-with-3g-motorazr-maxx/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">V6 MAXX</a> takes the reigns as king of the RAZR hill, rocking some mighty speedy HSDPA, a 2 megapixel external and VGA internal cam, 50MB of user memory, QVGA main display and touch-sensitive external controls. The launch of the MAXX down under dovetails nicely with Telstra's recent launch of their nationwide <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/09/telstra-launches-next-g-mobile-broadband-network/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">"Next G"</a> HSDPA network; best of all, it sounds like you should be able to march into your local shop before too long and pick 'er up. We're beet red with jealousy, but if anyone has the chance to check it out, drop us a line in comments and let us know the verdict!<br /><br />[Thanks, Jewburg]
